Used to be a Waterloo staple. Still have great wings and patio but increasing prices, moderate food quality compared to elsewhere at same pricepoint, and hit or miss experiences with staff are starting to bring this place down.
Great quick service to set up our hockey team in their basement man cave.
Showed up with a group of four guys. Having a good night with lots of laughs ordered a pitcher and it never came ... soon a manager showed up and said we were not getting served. We laughed and left ... completely sober and never to return. After 10 times of being there I will never be back. Sad to see another good local business go south !!!!
Cool little University bar... Great on Friday nights.
Morty's Pub does not only have amazing food but a huge patio with shade. I definitely recommend checking out their new patio
Amazing wings, fun ambiance, happy service staff. Just go and experience their AMAZING wings!
Absolutely one of my all time favourite places in Waterloo for food and drinks in a laid back, casual sports bar atmosphere! I can't remember ever having a bad meal here or not having great service! Of course, the wings here are legendary, but the rest of the menu is excellent as well aside from a few notable exceptions.
When I ask my family, including two young kids, where to go when we have a casual meal, Morty's is always in the top 2-3 places mentioned.
The kids meals, especially the burgers, are freshly prepared, not frozen. I believe they have wing nights on Tues. and Thurs. (could be wrong about the days), make sure you arrive early or it's hard to get seated. Overall, I highly recommend Morty's Pub! Cheers!
Pricing was awful for the wings. They increased it like crazy since last time I came.
Top be honest, the wings (Smokey bbq) seemed a bit bland. We were disappointed considering the reputation but maybe just an off day? Nice place though.
The food was not good at all. If you like drinking and watching sports then its good but the food was disappointing and bland.
Foods are good. Customer service on game night is the worst.
Ambiance 4/5
Food 4/5
Service 5/5
Probably one of the nicer places in Waterloo. Love their wings with the suicide sauce! Is a little pricy, but overall great place to hang out with your buddies! The staff is also very friendly and provide quick service.
Good place but they need 1) more seating, 2) make sure this CO2 contraption is working on busy nights and 3) the wings are like ridiculously big, perhaps a good thing but it looks like really fattened immobile chickens gave their miserable lives for my food, the free range chickens taste way better.
Place used to kill it for price and quality. Too tight of a seating arrangement.
From the get go my partner, his daughter and I were all unsatisfied. We had asked for a booth and told there were none... I must have been blind lol. We had sat down to eat and our server you could tell was already in a terrible mood. I asked for the portabella mushroom burger and she asked if I was aware it had no meat on it? Obviously...... My partner had ordered a burger with no tomatoe, or lettuce of course it came with these toppings on it. I had asked for fries, yet the server brought me ceaseer as a side and refused to bring my partners draughter a side of ceaser with her perogies! Apperantly it would be 7.50 since perogies didn't come with a side....So the one they had given to me by mistake would be thrown out anyways. I asked to pay for another side of fries and keep the salad for the daughter, and she refused! I stated how I felt and was told."i just work here don't make the rules" my partner than expressed how we also wernt left with enough cutlery and we were scoffed at by our server!!! Never again. The manager had tried to correct things, but after the servers attitude it was too far gone. My meal was decent, hence it been what I ordered and the waitress wasn't so disrespectful. Oh and kudos to the other waitress that tried to place a pitcher under the nose of our 16 yr old girl! :)
I had the best wings ever here! They have a good selection for flavours and other options of wings aren't what you're craving. The service was great and the food tasty. We visited on a really nice day and were able to sit outside.
A local landmark, the food is ok but the atmosphere is great
I understood I was going to a pub not a 4 to 5 star restaurant when I entered Mortys but none the less, this place was a dissapointment. I was not informed that they did not take debit until the bill arrived. This cost me an extra $2.00. The fries were cold and soggy, and the chicken rubbery and tasteless. I asked to have it recooked and the waitress had a major attitude about this request despite my asking politely. The place is also dark, dank, and without character or theme. Who the hell is Morty anyways other then a guy who has a shitty pub named after him? Avoid this place.
Only ever come here during wings night when the food is more worth. Great place to come with friends, but I always end up eating something else after because the food just isn't filling enough.
Fun atmosphere to watch sport games or just hangout with friends. Very nice and welcoming service! Our waitress was very busy on the bar, where we sat to watch the soccer game, yet she was always checking on us making sure we were comfortable and enjoying our experience. We had some cider and beer and the famous wings with an order of veggies and dip. The wings were juicy inside, chrispy on the outside with delicious sauces. Very good quality meat, the only thing missing was a little bit of salt on the wings before they are coated with the flour. But all in all pretty well executed, you can tell they were brinded just right and cooked at the perfect temperature. Very tasty!
Best wings on the planet. Awesome new outdoor patio!
My favorite pub. I live in Texas and travel here every other month. Every time I am in town I go to Morty's several times. They have by far the best wings I have had. The service is awesome and the waitresses are gorgeous! Highly recommend.
Huge and good wings but they have changed how wings are ordered on wing night from a number quantity and priced per wing to a weight quantity and priced per pound. This makes wing night more expensive. It also gets terribly busy on wing night if you aren't early.
The waitresses are so hot... sorry but is the true... wings are amazing
Tldr: great place for huge, tasty wings. Mon/Thurs wing special used to be better, but still a good deal. Good service, would recommend.
Morty's is your friendly neighborhood joint that serves pub food at a reasonable price. This used to be my go-to place for a great wing deal. On Mondays and Thursdays their special used to be 79 cent wings with the purchase of a drink. However, over the years they changed up the deal. Still a relatively good price for wings but not as good as before. I still come here occasionally though, as the the wings are quite consistent. They're meaty, juicy, and never dry on the inside. In terms of flavors, I usually get sweet chili Thai, buttery hot, honey garlic, or dry cajun. I would avoid the bbq flavors since it's not that great here.
Service is usually pretty good, and the wait could be long if you do go on their wing day specials. Overall, if it's a mon/Thurs and you're looking for solid wings, morty's will not disappoint.
Great food good atmosphere and the service is excellent. We go usually on Monday's for a steak dinner and haven't had a bad one in yeara.
Amazing food, very good and respectable service. Also, they actually have sound on for the sports.. Highly recommended it. Definitely going back myself
Great food the service is awesome and lots of TVs to watch your sports on
Expensive, $110 wings for three people. Had about a dozen left over tho. But wings only, one beer and two water, no veggies, no fries not even any blue cheese or ranch dip. Asked for two blue cheese dip, about three ounces, wait for it... Another 2 bucks, rediculous!!
I'm done with this place I can eat at Golf Steak House cheaper and way better.
Good place for pub grub. Wings are tasty but I regret getting the breaded ones. Too heavy.
Have to say, very disappointed. The wings were fantastic as usual but I ordered a club sandwich, the toast was hard as a rock, the turkey dry as sand and the Mexican fries were so dry I could barely eat them. Almost as if the plate of food sat under a heat lamp for the 35 it took for the disinterested staff to get around to delivering it. A club sandwich is like a yard stick of a good pub. If you can't get that right...
Visited on a Tuesday night. Menu has a good selection of "pub fare" at reasonable "Uptown Waterloo" prices. The staff were all very friendly and the food came quick and was delicious. I walked there so I can't comment on parking. I'm not often in this area of Waterloo but if I found myself near Morty's again I would definitely go back.
It's gone downhill over the years. Quality just isn't the same as it use to be.
Best wings in town! Monday night special (also Thursdays). Visit atleast twice a month. Cold beers and great staff
Wings used to be good, now they are smaller portions, and higher prices.
The wings aren't that good anymore, too much batter
Mostly a student joint. They claim they have good wings, but it's not that amazing. The student servers are also horrible at their jobs and make it very clear that they only care about the tips.
Disappointed with my last visit. Server was rude. She was forgetful and did nothing to ensure we enjoyed our food. Came to the table 3 times. No refills. Did not address her mistake of forgetting our appetizers and pound of wings until she said she would just take it off the bill at the end.
I love the long island ice tea and the chicken wings, a good place to meet with friends and enjoy some leisure time
From the time s I ve been here, never had an issue. Friendly service, the food is good! The atmosphere can either be a more mature and professional one or (depending on the night) students! Lol they are taking over! Which I guess is good, stay in school!
But honestly, I prefer to go on a slower night and pay full price for the wings then going on a Monday or a Thursday during the special and wait forever for a seat, then forever for your food.
Excellent wings, great atmosphere. Decent patio. Wing night is Monday for cheap wings
I remember this place fondly from being in Waterloo on my 20s. Going back to it now, the food hasn't changed much which is both good and bad. The wings are apparently still good. The majority of the food comes from the deep fryer which limits the variety. There isn't much local beer on tap either. But the staff are great.
Have to have ID to enter just like a bar. I wanted to get a bite to eat .the bouncer stopped me like I was gr 8 and didn't give him my lunch money yet .
Wings use to be great but the last few times I found them over cooked and dry.
Where do I begin... I tend to have many very good experiences in restaurants, finding that a smile can make up for any below standard meal; that being said, the prices and poor ambience makes for a regrettable trip out of the house, especially when I am attempting to impress my queen, my love, the saviour of my soul, my wife. I would do anything to give her a good time, heck I d sell my own heart just to see her crack a smile (although it doesn t take that much work I promise ;) ). To see her sad and disappointed broke my heart, sorry for the bad review :(.
I love it. Different style. Cozy environment. Food, service and staff are awesome
Was there for a party in the lower level. Service was not the greatest and the servers seemed to be in an overall bad mood. Food was just ok.
Always love coming here!! Usually have the fabulous wings but doesn't matter, it's all good.
First time here but definitely not the last. Was very impressed with the wings and fries. Keep up the good work
I have given this restaurant multiple opportunities and have been disappointed with each one. Low quality food despite their claims to be "voted" the best, rude serving staff that forgets to bring drinks, and hidden charges that shouldn't be applied. Getting charged for ranch dressing because your chicken burger did not have enough should not happen. Charging for take-out boxes because a meal is a dine-in special should also not happen. Even though it goes to charity, individuals should have the option to donate, not be forced to if they want to take the food they have already paid for home. By choosing to charge for unfinished food, you are promoting to food waste if people want to avoid the charge, or will leave a negative impact to your customers. Come up with a better promotion for charitable donations.
Seated at a dirty table on a friday night, nbd. Provided with two different menus, neither of which listed beer selection and/or prices - should have been my first clue that I was about to pay $25 for a pitcher of Heineken that won't even fill 3 glasses. Fries were fresh and tasty, buddy's wings looked great but I'll never go back to try them for myself. Recommended if you enjoy spending outrageous amounts of money in a completely ordinary bar.
Made the unfortunate decision to go to Morty's Pub for my birthday. Our waitress Nikki started the evening off by bringing the wrong beer, arguing with me that she brought the right one, and my entire group saying they all heard me order the correct beer. She rolled her eyes and brought the correct beer. Sadly the food didnt make up for it. The battered mushrooms were dripping with grease, the person in our party that loved mushrooms couldn't finish 2. And my main course came overcooked and chewy, again, couldn't stand more than a couple bites. I ordered some of the special wings they had (maple something or other for canada day) and for a place apparently known for their wings it was pretty sad. It was just a couple pale, small-medium wings with some watery vaguely maple flavoured sauce on a plate. Came warm, not hot, edible but I wouldn't get them again.
While we were eating, we could hear our waitress Nikki berating a family a couple of booths away from us for not giving her a big enough tip, loudly embarrassing them to everyone around us.
Nikki did however get the manager when we told her the food was sub-par. The manager did not charge us for the food items we didn't eat which is good.
BUT when we went to pay I asked Nikki if there were any good food places still open at the time, because much of my party didnt eat anything, and I had a small plate of wings. She rolled her eyes and acted as though she didn't hear us.
I always tip in cash so I know the waiter/waitress/bartender gets it and it isnt taken or split by the establishment, but when Nikki saw I didn't tip via Debit she berated us loudly like she did the other family. I stopped her midway through her speech (which sounds like shes said it quite a few times) and told her I usually tip in cash, and the bill in my hand was for her.
I told her she was rude the entire time we were there and wouldn't be back as long as she was there. Slipped the $10 back in my pocket and we left.
Morty's has definitely some of the best wings in KW, although the wings have gotten noticeably worse over the last year. Some days they will be amazing, other days they'll be mediocre. They have wing night Monday and Thursday.
Great atmosphere, good seevice. Really love the cocktail here.
Great food, fantastic service and great pub atmosphere!!
