Great espresso martinis and can smoke on outside tables
Good place for cocktail and chat. Pre party place dough.
Great bar for a few drinks and a few laughs after work. Nice music, seating and good vibes.
Very disappointed with the waiters attitude and the quality of the food. It made it worse as we were asked to leave the table as before we had our dessert, as they gave the table to some one who just walked in. Terrible experience.
One of my favourite go-to's in Melbourne. The food is always delicious & for the quality represents excellent value. The set lunch is also very well priced.
Very nice place for food and drink just a little expensive.
Food is small portions but tasty.
Food is yum, but oh boy Morris Jones has gone down hill! The management are tragic, and the service is shocking. This is not the place you want to go for Asian fusion. The drinks are terrible and overpriced. I recently attended and there was vomit all the ladies bathroom, unattended to for half the night. Pretentious as all hell and only interested in their F-grade celebrity status on Instagram.
Really great vibe, service is very friendly! We were taking some selfies and one of the staff waskind enough to offer to take our photos, and alot of them at that! we didnt catch her name but the 50 photos she took is greatly appreciated :P
we had a couple of great cocktails here. Really keen to go back and try some food!
Absolutely disgusting sushi, was not made fresh. Supermarket sushi would be fresher and service was terrible. Wait staff spent more time bragging to other tables (perhaps friends?) about how busy they had been rather than bring our drinks. Waited 25 minutes before anyone even took our order. Service was always bad but at least the food used to be good (fabulous in fact) a few years ago. Now, EVERYTHING has gone down hill. Just a place to be seen.
$2 dumplings on a Wednesday are excellent! Great spot
I personally didn't enjoy the vibe. Seemed like the majority of people go there to be seen or take selfies. Not my cup of tea personally, won't be back.
Food was tasty and sophisticated and, but serving sizes were disappointingly mean and the service was not up to the standard I would expect for a place that charges as much as this one does. After spending $140 for two people to eat, I shouldn't expect to walk away still hungry.
Nice venue, great music , but the drinks were very dialuted. I could not taste the alcohol in any of the drinks. The group of people we where with all agreed. I would not go back for that reason , we wasted alot of money at the bar for nothing.
They didn't get my friends booking even though she had got confirmation. And it was her birthday. She had to persist to get us a better table because we couldn't sit in the restaurant. Food was ok.
Visited for the first time for friend's birthday. I was quite surprised to see how some of the staff members were grumpy and looking not enthusiastic to serve. There was one male staff who didn't even look interested in serving, absolutely no welcoming vibe. Food was ok and a little bit pricey. Probably will just be a once off visit around the area. But I do appreciate some staff members who did genuinely serve us as customers.
The place used to be my local before, but it's gone so bad, not sure if their owner changed
Not going back anytime soon
Great atmosphere, great place to go out for drinks and hang out with friends. Saturday nights will keep waiting in a long queue to get a drink from the bar. Like most places.
Come here every now and again for Espresso Martinis during Happy Hour. Not the best I've had, but they work!
Food and cocktails are AMAZING! It exceeded our expectations!
Very disappointed to be refused entry due to racial discrimination last night. Myself (Caucasian) and my two friends (Sri Lankan and Vietnamese) were denied entry because the place was too full . We stepped away and while trying to decide which venue to go to instead we noticed the same bouncer letting other groups in. At first I thought maybe these people were known to him, but as more groups went in it became clear they were not. Given the lie about being full, and the fact none of us were rude or intoxicated it quickly became clear we didn t fit the aesthetics of what management/the bouncer deemed to be suitable for their establishment. Quite frankly this is beyond unacceptable in this day and age, and horrifying to experience in a city that embraces multiculturalism. Would not recommend this venue, and certainly won t be going back myself.
We thoroughly enjoyed, devoured!, the chef's selection menu. I will most definitely go again as soon as I can!
Would rate zero if i could. Inconsistent with filling our wine, banquet not worth the money very very small portions. The management was very rude but our waitress was lovely. Do not recommend this place for dinner or drinks. Plenty of other places on chapel street.
The cocktails were great but the food was pretty average. Definitely not the best Japanese fusion we ve tried. The sashimi platter was all for show and over priced for what your got. If you re looking for tasty Japanese fusion, I wouldn t recommend but If you re looking for great cocktails and a good night out, then definitely start your night here!
Very big shame to have my partner not get in last weekend due to his neck tattoos. I already had a bunch of friends inside although upon arrival we were specifically told it was due to his tattoos that we wouldn t be able to come inside the venue. A big let down on my birthday.
Friendly staff. Love the venue and the drinks were great!
Bar service was terribly slow and there was one girl in particular who was extremely rude and abusive
Two very enthusiastic thumbs up. Fine holiday fun. Waitress was a little unfriendly but over aall a good time.
Excellent food. Ordered the set menu - delicious and good value
I ve been to Morris Jones a few times but the last couple times it s been a disappointment and will never ever go back to this place, poor service and unqualified staffs. Particularly the girl (long braid hair) was serving us on Saturday night upstairs was terribly rude and we all felt so uncomfortable, it was like she was doing us a favour!!!
They lost our business for ever, would NOT recommend anyone who expects 5 stars service and great food & wine to go there!!!
Morris Jones is good on a Sunday when they typically have a jazz musician playing. They are also dog friendly, which is terrific as you can bring your four legged fur buddy for a relaxing afternoon. Very cool.
LOVE the forward leaning pet policy and the wine list isn't too bad either!
Nice place great service but well too loud for a get together.... Maybe I'm just getting old
Fun night out in Prahran. Love the flower wall... who doesn't! Dishes were delicious and different tried many of the dishes shared with friends and some we ordered twice. Great for cocktail too.
First time at Morris Jones. Went for Valentines Day.
The food was definitely overpriced and tasted ok. Everything was shared between the two of us. What shocked me the most was the waiter who put the dish down and touched the food with his hands to 're-adjust' one of the tuna nigiri because it wasn't balanced on the plate properly. He did this right in front of us and just didn't look clean.
Amazing food cocktails and vibe. My avourite place to catch up with friends.
One of my favourite spots in Melbourne! The barramundi is to die for, as was the white chocolate passion fruit martini. Single best cocktail I ve had in my life! Great staff too. Definitely worth the visit, will be back soon!
We came here for a quick drink before dinner. Was a nice bar.
Food was great but quality of staff didn't match the price. Been there before and had a better meal.
Ferrence at Morris Jones is amazing!! Great guy was very accomodating even after a 15 hour shift! Thanks F
Ordered drinks, they served me with dirty glasses while I was witnessing he is emptying them from last drinks and did not washed it!!!!! I asked to wash it first but they refused!!!! Been told it s clean !!!!
Lovely food, interesting and tasty. Great service.
My husband and I eat regularly at Morris Jones and it is always fantastic. Food is always amazing and happy hour drinks are served until 8:00pm. Highly recommend the four course chef's tasting menu.
the reason I gave 2 stars just because the food taste good, the portion size so small, services are so slow, took so long, took us 3 hours to finished 3 courses, you have 50mins gap between each course, I falling asleep in the end of the meal. make you can't enjoy the meal at all.
Great at any time of day and their candied chilli bacon is delicious
This was my first experience with Morris Jones and I will never be returning (and would give this place no stars if it allowed me to). I was attending the venue with a group of friends, some who were of Caucasian background, and some who were of Indian background. I was at the front of the group with another Caucasian friend, and we were freely let in. However a group of my Indian friends, mix of males and females, were about to enter in after us but were denied entry. The manager, who was of white descent, came and told the bouncer (who also was of ethnic background) to not let them in as "groups weren't allowed in". After trying to negotiate with the bouncer and manager about why they were not allowed entry, we left the place. While standing out the front, we witnessed other groups arriving from the Caulfield cup...and yes, majority of these people were of white descent. I am appalled and very disappointed that this type of racist behaviour is still occurring at public venues that are trying to create certain "looks" for their venues. Entry to a public venue should only be denied on adverse behaviour and not on ethnicity. I would not recommend anyone I know to attend this venue and was disgusted by what happened.
Overcharged for private function and took 4 months to get refund
Long waits for a drink and not very attentive to customers.
Don't trust any promos this place posts to social media because it's just to get you in the door and they'll likely BS their way out of any free drinks in their promo so you'll end up paying. Lacking customer service and money hungry.
Great food but I won't be returning from my experience with management.
A pretty flower wall isn t enough to overshadow the rude staff and terrible treatment/service that you will receive at this venue. Would not reccomend.
I have been here both before and after the forced closure due to covid. I thought the first time was just an off day and I got some grumpy staff so I gave it a second chance after it re opened and received even worse treatment. It s nothing to do with a forced closure and re-opening, there are numerous other reviews dating months and months back that show that this has been the level of treatment by your staff always.
So, in response to your reply. If you want positivity shared about your restaurant online, have your staff treat people positively, not in a way that makes them feel compelled to jump online and warn other patrons to save their money and pick a venue that will not ruin their occasion.
Absolute ridiculous, overpriced and rude place!
Came for a friend's birthday drinks at Happy Hour (6-8pm) and stood for 10 minutes at the bar before getting served (8.01pm). Told us that Happy Hour was over and that Espresso Martinis were now $20 a pop. Accepted the 'poor timing' and ordered two drinks after getting absolutely patronised by the 'oh so cool' bar keeper. When we were about to pay, another bar keeper handed over another order to two ladies next to us and spilled a whole drink on me and in my bag (great...). He didn't seem to give a damn, slowly made his way around to grab me some old wash cloth to tap myself and my entire bag dry. No apology no nothing and only after the two ladies and my friend stepped in and demanded some kind of apology, he gave us two free drinks.
Not only is the staff incredibly rude and arrogant, the cocktails were also very average to what the price is. Not worth going here.
It was a special night for us, as our parents were visited us in Melbourne.
The manager was very impolite, he didn't allow us to choose two different menus.
As he wasn't welcoming in any manner, we left and he seemed satisfied with that.
One of my worst customer experience !
Lovely venue with beautiful food and amazing cocktails
Great atmosphere, amazing cocktails and incredible service. Definitely recommend!
Swanky! Its a who's who sort of place. Sublime food, great choice of drinks and waiters really make you feel like a celebrity and if that doesn't do it for you the patrons will always follow you with there eyes just to make sure your not someone!
Good place , good music ! A bit busy at the bar and small dance floor ! But quite nice to hang out with friends !
To be frank very nice for an unlimited sushi & drink place, waitresses organised and know what they're doing would recommend 10/10
Food was good. However, Juan was mediocre at best. After one hour of a two hour bottomless brunch, he was no where to be seen and we did not get the service we paid for. Additionally, he questioned our integrity and picked a fight with our friend who was only trying to order last drinks. I recommend this place ONLY IF you have a waiter for the whole time. Disappointing at best and not how it used to be pre-covid.
Service was welcoming and attentive. Maitre'd was very pleasant. Our waiter attentive and helpful. Cocktails were fantastic. Food came quickly but with perfect timing through the courses. Always
a great night with energy filled atmosphere.
Well, this is not a place I'd want anyone to book. Impossible to get a hold of them after you've made the booking. Really bad customer service but hey, I'm sure others that don't care about it might like it. Just not for me.
Made a group booking, had the fixed menu which was a great meal, we were well looked after and closely attended by our host, would recommend
Trendy southside place, very busy and staff at the bar were great.
The amount of sushi lying around on warm day is a little concerning though, might consider a different food deal in the warmer months.
Rude bartenders who are simply not efficient enough at their job
Our dinner at Morris Jones was disappointing.
They sat us at a table upstairs in the darkest corner near an unmarked toilet that we were literally facing. People kept coming upstairs to use this toilet and it was really uncomfortable to have people using the toilet so close to where we eating - when they came out of the toilet door, they were right next to our table, there was no divider or anything.
The food was expensive for what it was. A glazed short rib dish for $38 was a dish of ONE rib.
The crispy skin pork belly was slightly better with 2 small pieces but the skin was chewy, not crispy.
The blue swimmer crab with scorched salmon sushi came out with un-scorched salmon. We were confused that we even had the right dish to begin - no one could clarify this and a waiter eventually came with a blow torch and scorched the salmon at our table.
The spicy king prawn sushi with charcoal prawn tempura was not that great as the tempura was not part of the sushi but on the side and it was slightly soggy.
The venue was nice and the bar seemed popular but if you want tasty Japanese food, there are plenty of other places on Chapel St and surrounding streets to choose from.
We left hungry and went a few doors down the street to stuff our faces with tasty and value for money dumplings, yum!
Most of the food was amazing. Service was pretty good. But they seemed to try for extra money by asking if we want sparkling or still water but no option for just tap water, so they tried to charge us $40 for 3 or 4 jugs of still water.
We had the degustation menu and the food and service was exceptional.
Amazing food as always.
The best prawn dumplings I ever had. Absolutely love the sauce. 10 out of 10.
Happy hour drinks are also a plus.
Great breakfast and dinner hangout in the hear of Melbourne's chapel Street. Great wine, ambience and the perfect bustle. Highly recommend
Big fan of Morris Jones, especially the recently added Sunday Sessions with Cisco and his sultry tones filling the venue. The White Choc Passionfruit Martini is obviously the stand-out drink. Helps that the crowd is also gorgeous. Stay classy, team!
First of all, I have never written a review of any restaurant or bar or hotel in my life, but this place, is something special. 8 of us were at Morris Jones on Saturday night, trying to enjoy our $69 a head, overpriced dinner. We were most of our way through our dinner and already planning our stop past maccas on the way home when something amazing happened.
To set the scene, this is a restaurant/bar, and they act like it s a club where they pick and choose who they let in after a certain time.
We had gone outside the front of the establishment a couple of times throughout dinner as a few of our group are smokers. On our way back inside the man at the door steps in front of me and says not tonight mate . To which I replied we re just in the middle of dinner bud .
Thinking that he was joking, I went to step around him and he did the same thing again and repeated himself. And again i tried to explain we were in the middle of dinner and that our wives were all inside, but he wouldn t listen and continues with mate, I d remember you with your beard, you re not coming in . By this stage I was fuming.
After arguing with him for some time and still getting nowhere without him even turning to someone else to verify weather what I was saying was true or not, I told him that if he didn t let me in I was getting everyone out and we were leaving without paying. His reply was, that s fine . So we did.
When he saw everyone walking out he began to backtrack and started with a pore excuse of an apology and began to talk like it was my fault! You can imagine by this stage language was quite colourful and we took our wives and left.
They haven t even bothered to call and apologise for ruining the night as they have our contact number through the booking.
I have never been treated like this anywhere I ve ever gone. This place is an actual joke and the arrogance and pretentiousness resonating through this place is crazy.
Don t forget to get a photo in front of the flower wall on the way out
Never going back to this place again!
Look, the food was good, I won't say I didnt like it cause it was nice... but for the cost, I'd have been happier with nando's or schnits, at least I wouldnt have been hungry afterwards.
I got the pork belly and some dumplings, walked out still hungry.
Three dumplings, about the size of a $1.00 coin and the pork belly was maybe the size of my keyboard on my phone all diced up.
Thought I must have chosen from the kids menu.
Now I dont go out much, I'm no city nightlife guy and happy with a bbq under the stars with a blanket around a campfire and roasting marshmallows.
The waitresses were fair mint though if you want some eye candy... something you dont usually find out bush. Our waiter was friendly, and lightned up a bit towards the end which was nice, even made a joke or two.
Food, good
Servings, poor
Service, great
Never eaten here only gone for drinks and it's honestly filled with some of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. Always a good time.
Look we had a good time, but the Espresso Martini left an awful lot to be desired.
Amazing new venue, looks so arty and cool, love the food and vibe. Definitely will be back!
Tuesday night surprise mini degustation. Outstanding!
