This restaurant is located in downtown Austin, near the center of everything, a quick walk to the nightlife on 4th St. Not having eaten lunch, my sister and I ate earlier than usual, wandering in at 5:30. This had two unforseen benefits: first, happy hour is from 5-6:30. Not only are drinks reduced, the entire selection of appetizers is too. Second, we walked right in and were seated immediately. By 7PM, there was a rather long line of hungry people outside awaiting a table.

I had the brunch buffet on Sunday and was so enamoured that I went back for dinner that night. The buffet includes chicken, biscuits, gravy, cheesy grits, pastries, mini bagels with 3 different spreads, bread pudding, fruit, a few savory casseroles, and more. You can only get the buffet on sunday. I'm not always a grits fan, but their cheesy grits are out of this world. Dinner started with an appetizer of fried green tomatoes with smoker shrimp and a slightly spicy sauce. There is no reason that tomatoes should be that delicious. The chicken and waffles was a winner but the rainbow trout was underwhelming. Undersalted maybe? I'll come back the next time I'm in town.

This place was so good! Our server Casey was so friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. She gave great recommendations about the food. It was 3 of us that went for lunch around 2:30pm. We had about a 20 minute wait but it was nice More

The best chicken fried steak I've ever had. I tasted the meat loaf, which was really good as well. I would review it higher, but the parking is really expensive. $25 for the lot next door. $9 for their valet. Street parking, for a small fee is an option, be rarely available.

My dinner was excellent. Went for the pork belly sandwich on waiter's recommendation. I was not disappointed. I also had the grits on his same recommendation. I had never had grits before. Holy Shi*. Nice grits!
The calamari app was the best calamari I'd ever had. Taste, thick, not chewy. Perfect.
If I'm back in Austin again, I will be stopping by. Also, really good popcorn served before the meal.

Location was close to our conference at The Fairmont and I'm so glad we stopped here for lunch. We had fried green tomatoes for an appetizer and the Hanger Steak special. Both were amazing. We hanger steak was nice and tender. Also had the Hard Lemonade which was good. Our server was Glenn and he was so spot on and efficient. He's a highlight for sure!

2nd time here with family and friends. Food is delicious. Service and management are top notch. Try the chicken fried steak as an appetizer. I cut it up on bite size pieces and everyone loved it. I had the catfish on my first visit and the trout the 2nd time around. Both very good. Their mac and cheese dish also very good. Drinks are a nice pour all portions are very generous. Will come back next time in Austin.

Great food! I highly recommend the kale and bacon dip. It's amazing! DO NOT USE THE PARKING LOT NEXT DOOR! It costs $15, and the valet for the restaurant is only $7! Service was great. They said the wait would be an hour. We waited maybe 30 minutes. Well worth it.

Great meal for lunch chicken & waffles were so amazing with special gravy & syrup of course, they also had housemade cornbread! We had beautiful weather on the patio, great services - very attentive staff

Really great spot. Waitress Lila one of the best waitresses ever. Very easy going, pleasant and helpful. Good food, large portions, fair prices. Best friend green tomatoes ever! Why don't mine turn out like that?

Not impressed. The shrimp corndogs were not all that; they came with your regular heinz mustard. Bacon dip was actually good, but in comparison. Burger was bland. Green chili grits were okay. Sweet potato fried were good. service was good. I'm not a robot.

I had the Berkeley House Salad. It was good, fresh vegetables/greens, avocado, with pickled cauliflower and carrots. The Sweet potato fries were good, and the tomatillo sauce was a plus. Burger was very good.

Wow! Ever find an unexpected $20 in your pockets??! Well, this is that kind of euphoria. We were celebrating our anniversary weekend at The Fairmont (a definite Must Do) and the valet recommended this after a disappointing attempt at another restaurant. He took the keys and we took the short walk over to this little gem! The atmosphere is comfortable, rustic and beautiful. We choose the patio with the hanging lights casting a soft glow. Our waiter was polite, however a little quick with his responses as we tried to explain this was our first time and we were celebrating. We just kept it short and ordered what we thought would be wonderful and IT WAS!! If our waiter had been a bit more personable this experience would have been perfect. Anyone can have a off day, so definitely do not let this deter you. Go! You ll be glad you did!!

Been here for dinner and brunch. The food and drinks were tasty. Good service. The brunch is buffet style, which runs the risk of being terrible, but this one is pretty solid. Cute outdoor patio. Serious wait to get in.

My friend and I were in town exploring Austin and happened upon this GEM of a place! Our favorite part was our server Adam and his drink concoction "The Adam Bomb". It was DELICIOUS and we were so glad that we were able to try it since it wasn't on the menu but we had Adam helping us through the various items on the menu. He recommended the Steak that I had and it was one of the best meals I have had in a LONG time. We absolutely LOVED our experience and will absolutely be back if we are ever in the area again! Highly recommend! Ask for Adam and his Adam bomb!

SUNDAY BRUNCH BUFFET. If you have yet to experience the pleasure of their Sunday Brunch Buffet, you are missing out. This has been a staple brunch spot for us at least once every few months for about 4 years now, and it is just as exciting and enjoyable every single time. I can t explain it!! I should have just stopped at the first 3 words. Everything is on point - the food, the fun of it being endless, the friendly staff, the drinks, the building, the patio. Parking sucks, but where doesn t it? Just take an Uber, or scooter over, or valet, or pay for the parking lot, or get lucky and find a metered spot that s free on Sunday. My point is, do whatever it takes to get here for their Sunday Brunch Buffet.

I had my rehearsal dinner here in the patio room and little cottage house, and it was spectacular. I heard from everyone (and I agree) that it was some of the best rehearsal dinner food they had ever had, because it's so unique and tasty! It was a little pricey, but turned out perfectly. Management was incredibly kind, accommodating, and professional, as well as every server that we had (which is awesome considering Austin servers can be a little sassy!). Everything was set up and ready to go early when we arrived to decorate, and things went smoothly the whole night without feeling rushed. Management even wrote me a hand-written thank you card. We love bringing out-of-towners to dine there on a beautiful Austin day out on the patio too! Highly recommended!

Some of the best food you ll ever stick in your mouth. The macaroni is awesome as well as the chicken and waffles. Just remember to add some bacon and a fried egg to it. Lip lickin good. Valet your vehicle, don t park next door.

Blackened Catfish is unbelievable. Top 5 Austin Restaurant in my opinion. If you are new to Austin or only here for a few days on business you have to go to Moonshine. Only negative is you can't make reservations and if you get there anytime after 7:00 PM for dinner you'll be waiting a while for a table.

Such a wonderful place to dine in with the family. They have a very excellent place, great outdoor and indoor seating with a good patio. They have a good interior setting, cozy inside and minimalist decor. Seating was quite good with its great chairs and tables. We had our seat right away as we dine in for brunch.

When it comes to food I was very overwhelmed and also my wife to the food we had. Their menu was extensive and plenty of options but our entree were Hanger steak with Mac n Cheese and breaded chicken breast and artichoke to my wife. The food was well-cooked and has a decent taste. It was delicious and the ingredients were on-point. Well-prepared and portions were average. They have a great selection of drinks as well. We had their Lemonade cocktail and it tastes so delicious and refreshing.
Fantastic service, the staff was very attentive and welcoming as well.

Delicious food - loved the steak salad and both my colleagues tried fish dishes and were super impressed. Excellent french fries. Very reasonably priced given quality of food + service. Liked the overall vibe as well, classy but not at all stuffy, set in a historic home with indoor and outdoor seating available. Top-notch service.

Do note that this is a popular spot that doesn't take reservations. So despite largish seating area, you will likely face a wait to eat - my party of 3 waited about 45 minutes on a Tuesday evening in August. Weekend nights likely have even longer wait times in summer, but possibly less busy during the winter.

A pretty promising combination of good food and decent drinks.
One of my drinks wasn't mixed very well, but they fixed that.
Serving sizes are always colossal. Like, "I can't remember finishing any of them... ever" colossal.

Food was good. Service was friendly. They are social distancing the tables and wearing masks properly. They have obviously received good training on the matter.

They handled our large party very well with other servers seemingly happy to step in and help when necessary. Whole experience went smoothly.

This place smells awesome. The food was pretty tasty and unique. It has a good atmosphere. It got crowded and was very loud to me. I'm hearing impaired, so that is more my issue than theirs...ha.

I am so glad we tried this quaint, comfortable, restaurant near downtown Austin. The service was top-notch. We had The Original Moonshine Corn Dog Shrimp, Green Chile Macaroni, and Banana Cream Pudding. It was all so good. I love this place and will definitely be back!

Great food. Great service. Great cocktails. We came in from out of town looking for a great Austin restaurant and found it. The menu here has something for everyone and everything is local. They serve popcorn instead of bread to start off the night which was a pleasant surprise and, when it comes to the main course, there's a lot of combos to chose from. Would definitely recommend giving it a try!

I was in Downton Austin for business and went to Moonshines since it was close to the hotel. I'm glad I choose this restaurant. It was very tasty from the complimentary popcorn to the kale dip and chicken and waffles. I didn't really care for the skillet apple pie though.
