Great atmosphere, yummy drinks and delicious food. There is usually a long wait for a table but it's a cool place to hangout until one is available. Also love the popcorn as an appetizer!

Great ambience and awesome service. Had lunch here with a colleague, ordered the rainbow trout which was delicious! Portion was generous and comes with free popcorn which was cool! Also the sweet potatoes fries are worth a try too.

One word- WOW. This place is incredible- from the building itself. I was craving for chicken fried steak and this was the best I've ever had!
The waitress, the service, the food and drinks, all excellent like I couldn't expect more

Best brunch I've had. I can only recommend getting a table in the small separate building, less crowded and great atmosphere in a historical site.
Food was great, huge variety. Staff was not only friendly but very entertaining. I gladly forgive them for forgetting about my coffee once, Overall experience was 10/10

Delicious food and great Austin patio vibe. Visited with a group during Texas women's conference. 90 percent of the food was outstanding, including the green chili macaroni and chicken fried steak Chipotle sauce. One person ordered the shrimp & grits plate and wasn't pleased. Moonshine asked for our feedback and generously invited us back to try the shrimp plate again. We visited a few months later and they completely reinagined the dish. It was gorgeous and 10x better than before. Thanks to Jordan for her hospitality and great customer service. With this attention to detail, I see a long, successful future for Moonshine.. Thanks again!

Amazing Food, Great service!

Amazing Food, Great service!

We came for brunch with some friends and it was amazing food. They has their Sunday brunch buffet, which is one of the best ive ever been to. The Migas, the chicken, the pesto eggs, the chocolate waffles and everything in between. I think for those who drink, they had mimosas as well!

I would definitely go back in a heartbeat!

normally it's a good experience at Moonshine, however if you have a large party you may want to rethink your choice. The party of 16 that had an estimated 1.5 hr wait that turned into 2, with food coming out 3 hrs later was not fun. We only had ONE waitress, and then my order was wrong. Had you given me a choice to take the chicken fried steak instead of chicken, that would have been fine. Next time ask if your guest were expecting dinner at 830 and its 10pm.

Favorite restaurant in Austin! 100% worth the wait. They serve you complimentary popcorn before your meal and have a great selection of drinks. The food was incredible, unique and our waiter made sure we always had everything we needed. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Austin

Good food, nice ambiance.

Good food, nice ambiance.
I've been a few times now, and the restaurant is always busy but manages to keep the quality of the food up every time.
Things to note:
Green chili mac and cheese is excellent.
Shepherd's pie is very greasy.
Ask for the Little Brown Book if you are a scotch or bourbon aficionado.
The restaurant can run very loud during dinner. Fun, but maybe not so great for a quiet date.

Excellent ambience... Amazing food... Great drinks.. what more can you ask for. Can't go wrong with the fajita steak salad (one of the best steak I've had) and chicken Ken and waffles. The dinner entree portions are hugeeeee... ;)

I was in Austin for business and just happened to stumble upon this place for dinner. It was phenomenal and I will most certainly go back the next time I am in town! I wanted to try everything on the menu. It was reasonably priced, the staff were attentive, and the atmosphere was adorable & historic (make sure to ask for a history sheet when you arrive). Drinks were dangerously good as well! I'm sure there is a lot more of Austin to explore, but this place I know will not disappoint.

Charming Southern style restaurant - I enjoyed my drink on the terrace while waiting for a table. The building is historic (or, if modern, was built in that style), which gives it a really homely atmosphere. The food itself was top notch. Chicken and waffles - with an extra egg, of course - was top notch. Slight criticism ... I felt a little rushed by the service. I would have liked a little longer to just soak up the atmosphere.

Got the jalapeno steak with cheesy garlic grits and it might be one of my favorite things I've ever eaten. The garlic bulb appetizer was a little hard to eat but the white lightning moonshine tasted like Christmas morning and it just made me feel so good. Be sure to expect a wait or eat at the bar because this place is ultra popular, and for a reason

Came here for the first time on a Saturday night -- we took the train in from NW Austin; downtown stop is literally a stone's throw away so it was perfect. We knew the wait would be long so we were prepared when they told us 1.5 hours for a party of 4 -- in reality we only waited about 45 minutes. You had to go inside the "outside bar" (it'll make more sense once you go there) to order drinks, but that was fine.

I spied metal dog bowls under a wait station by the door, so I'm willing to bet that patio is dog friendly (**be still my heart**).

We will definitely recommend this place to our friends who are still in Austin, but unfortunately we'll have to wait until the next time we make the trip from South Florida to come back!

When you have three for dinner its difficult for everything to be good but EVERYTHING was great,\. The pork chop, grits, 3 protein special, mashed potatoes, trout , the bread. And the moonshine. We definitely will be back

The food was hit or miss. Pimento cheese was delicious, the ribs were great but the pork chop was over done. Service felt rushed and they didn't even ask if we wanted another round of drinks.

Loved this place! I asked someone from a different favorite restaurant that wasn't open yet where he would suggest and this was one of his faves. Great drinks, great ribs, burgers, appetizers, salads! Will definitely go back!!

Great southern comfort food! Service was excellent! Great drinks and a fun atmosphere! It was hot AF and I had a heat stroke episode. There staff was very accommodating. Thank you so much for helping me!

We wanted to strengthen even before the tour by double-decker bus and discovered by chance this restaurant. It was very busy but still they offered us a place at the bar. This we have used and but this will not get any disadvantages. The staff is very friendly and cheerful. The food is absolutely top class, takes really not long and is not very expensive. As Europeans, we are not used to the drinks are refilled automatically. We found this very funny but also very accommodating. Thank you that we were allowed to make this taste experience.

The staff were amazingly nice! They helped to rush my food when I got low on blood sugar and were extremely positive. The food and atmosphere is excellent! And the history behind it is cool as well.

Even during SXSW they were staffed perfectly. We didn't have long waits but enough so that we could have a good conversation. The servers kept refilling sodas and offered to bring more drinks as they were emptied, but not obsessively. The food was good, and we're large portions. The deserts were huge. 1 dessert was enough to serve 6 at least and tasted great.

I had the almond chicken and OMG, it was absolutely delicious. Here they are experts on fried chicken, they make it crunchy and exactly on its point. However, I felt prices are higher than a normal restaurant. I paid like $23 for one dish, no drink, but tip included.

Food, drinks and service were so good, we went here twice. Great Old fashioned and chicken fried steak. It does draw a crowd, so plan accordingly. We sat at the bar by choice, it was full service.

I had the famous Chicken Fried Steak (CFS) and was disappointed. I guess my expectations were too high. The potatoes was cold but good taste. The CFS was very average and the batter/coating didn t stay on the bland cut of meat when you cut it. The gravy wasn t a step up from traditional white gravy. Great atmosphere and my waiter (sorry terrible with names) were attentive and polite. The best thing in my meal was the cornbread muffins. Not worth the 2 hour drive and $7 for valet parking.

Charles, our server, started out strong. However, after our entree s arrived he lost steam. Had he paced himself, he would have won the prize for the best waiter during my stay in Austin. As it stands, he wasn t worth the generous tip my wife left him.

The food was incredible, all the dishes were prepared perfectly. The prices were reasonable, there is an upscale vibe but you don t have to pay for it. Of all the entree s, the chicken fried steak was hands down the favorite.

Overall it is definitely worth a visit!

BTW, the scooters are parked next to a sign directing them to park elsewhere, what is up with all the scooters in this town????

We stopped here for a bite to eat, as we were visiting the convention center. It was full of friendly staff, good food and reasonable prices. We only had an hour, and the service was quick.

1) Location had a very cool vibe, in a prime area in downtown Austin.
2) Drinks were really good, we had the Blind Mule.
3) Food was decent, would only come back for the drinks and atmosphere. We had the green chile mac and cheese and chicken and waffles - waffles were very dry and crumby, chicken was rather tasteless.

OMG!
