Awesome historical building and historically great service, cocktails and food. Chicken fried steak is huge and delicious and the German chocolate cake is amazing and will feed a family. Best value in Austin!

The food is just great, the location is even better. The only down side is that I find the price a little expensive for what they serve. However I highly recommend the chicken and waffle

Our 50 min. Est. wait time for a table turned into 2 hours for party of 6 . Once we got our table we got our food fast and was tasty. But the waiter took my plate without asking if I was done and I still had half of my food on my plate.

I've only been here once, but I liked the drinks and appetizers.

I do ride by Moonshine nearly everyday and I notice a lot of larger groups, both family looking groups and work groups. They've got a nice big outdoor area and a very convenient location so it's perfect for gatherings.

One thing to watch out for is going in and out of this place. For whatever reason, I have observed many people wander out of Moonshine and into Red River; a busy street. I'm gonna go with mimosas as the culprit, but please do be careful out there.

Very nice vibe inside. Amazing drink selection and large and generous portions of classic comfort food. Also great patio and a lot of seating indoors as well. Cool crowd and very friendly and helpful staff

I did enjoy this eating here. The food was good, mixed drinks well made. I think price was a little high. But I would eat here again on our next trip. I would recommend it to all of my friends to try.

This is hands down my favorite place for a Sunday Brunch in Texas. The food never disappoints and they have such a great southern variety from green chile scrambled eggs to french toast, pastries and chicken fried steak. Their pomegranate mimosa is what makes the meal complete, and the ambiance and style of this old house has a charm that you can only find in Austin.

Get started at the Patio Bar while waiting for a delicious meal. Friendly staff and comfortable environment. Easy walk from East 6th. Like your bourbon or whiskey? Ask for a glass of their single barrel [and most are barrel strength] bourbons and whiskeys. You can't miss. Enjoy.

A great place to eat in downtown Austin. Close to the train stop and convention center. A short walk from many hotels. The menu includes a number of excellent choices and everything is prepared and presented superbly. Parking is difficult so walk, cab or Uber. In addition to a selection of mountains to sample, there is a full bar. We've been there 3 times over the past 4 years and we'll be back on our next trip to Austin.

Moonshine is an experience you do not want to miss. Great food, beautiful atmosphere and outstanding service. So many delicious items to choose from an each plate brought the flavor. Can't wait to visit again!

Food was great! Customer service was very good. The quality of the food was very good and the ambiance was nice. I got the chicken sandwich and it was Awesome! The sweet potato fries were also very good. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the food menu was somewhat limited. I would like to see more options.

Very cool ambience and a traditional old Austin favorite. The food is what I would call Southern soul food and extremely flavorful. Not necessarily a place to go if you are on a diet. The brunch is full of many tasty options. As with many popular places here, don't be surprised for a long wait.

There is a food God and he resides in the kitchen here. I recommend everything but here are today s favorites.

Fried green tomatoes
Chicken and waffles
A whole lot of Mimosas
Garlic mashed potatoes

Heaven. You re welcome in advance.

Very good, would like to have given it a 4.5 star rating. The celebrated "Chop" plate was good, but not as excellent as the other three dishes at our table. Veggies..excellent.
Highly recommend.

We ate here our last night in Austin. The service was spectacular from the hostess Michelle to the bartender, Sara, our server, Monty, and the manager Joe. We ordered the kale dip for an appetizer and it was a tiny bit late coming out of the kitchen so they sent over cornbread and comped the dip, totally above and beyond. And the dip? Delicious! Monty was friendly and helpful and had great recommendations. He knew the menu and was prompt and attentive but unobtrusive. The food was certainly the best we had in Austin. We loved every bite. Everyone should check this place out!

Very awesome. Friendly service. Food was great and bloody may was nice and spicy. The seats were in a booth. Not too comfortable. The big dude in the booth behind me kept leaning back and putting his arm up on top of the booth. Clearly in my space. I wish the waiter would have said something.
The food was good. Like the free muffins.

The food was a bit over priced, but still quite tastey. The resturant was very beautiful and clean. Everyone was really polite and did a good job of serving us while we dined there. The best and most unusual part was being served popcorn as an appetizer! Still, everything was quite yummy!

Had the rainbow trout and literally almost lost my mind. The flavors and tenderness of the fish were astounding. Served on top of bacon cornbread stuffing. Highly recommend this dish.

Moonshine grill is in Austin downtown classic I've presented at business events there, also been to romantic dinners, and met friends there. All of a sudden I've been there so many times and there are so many facets of this place I'm very impressed.

We sat at the bar and the bartenders did an amazing job and were very friendly. Drinks and food were great. Tried the fried green tomatoes and jalepeno hangar steak and would definitely recommend both.

Yummm!! One of the best brunch buffets I've had. I went here last weekend when I was visiting Austin. The buffet was less than $20 per person. Beats any brunch buffet places I've heard of in Houston.

I liked that everything was sample size pieces. It gave me the opportunity to try everything without feeling like I'm overeating or wasting too much food. My favorite thing on their brunch menu had to be the corn tortilla breaded chicken tenders. Definitely hit the spot. They also had deviled eggs, baked ham, yams, biscuits and gravy, bagels with a yummy salmon spread. Just thinking about it makes me want to go back and eat it again!

Definitely a place to eat at. We came by 10am so our wait time wasn't that long.

This was my first time back to Moonshine in years. I was disappointed.
We got seated pretty quickly, which is a plus... but the service was slow.
I had hoped they still had the buffalo meat meatloaf on the menu, but it was no longer on menu. I got the chicken fried steak, was disappointed. This was not seasoned well. Pretty bland. Overall, I don't see coming back.

This meal was the highlight of our trip to Austin! Our server, Cody, was amazing and had great recommendation for my wife and I. We ordered the chicken fried steak with tots. Living in the DC area we had actually never tried a chicken fried steak. Boy are we glad we came here! The sweet tea was really good. Then we finished it off with the banana pudding. All 5 stars!! Highly recommend if you're looking for some southern hospitality and amazing flavors.

Horseradish crusted salmon, pecan coated cat fish and the list goes on. I dont think I've had anything bad. Southern comfort food may not be the latest diet crave but it is oh soo good. Good for a date night as well. If you take a date expect them to want to try whatever is on your plate. Good news is you get to try what's in theirs.

I want to make sure everyone knows about the great brunch that Moonshine has. It can get crowded and the wait can be a bit but thats because it is so good.

The food was good, everything had a little bit of a spice. But the flavors were great. I had the steak salad, the steak was very tender. We also tried the corndog shrimp(very good) sounds odd, glad we tried them.

This was my second time here and it was even better than the first. First off, our server, Phillip, was phenomenal. He checked in regularly but not too much. He was very personable and friendly without being overly lax or familiar. He made the experience an enjoyable one.

From the seasoned popcorn, to the food and cocktails everything was superb. The menu is ok n the smaller side and that is to their benefit.they do a solid number of dishes and they do them well. Taking flavors that you don't often think of pairing, they are well thought out and compliment each other amazingly. My wife had a spinach salad with candied nuts, strawberries and a vanilla bean vinaigrette and added a piece of salmon to it and it was shockingly good, filling and at the same time light and refreshing.

I had the blackened catfish that came with a beautiful sauce and crawfish tails with a side of their absolutely perfect mac and cheese. Yes, there was a short wait for a table but at exactly noon, that was to be expected. And with downtown parking being what it is, $7 valet service is astounding. Though if you want other options for parking nearby they are available.

TL;DR: The food, service and drinks were amazing and they have $7 valet parking. A great combo you will be hard up to beat.

Absolutely delicious. But before I get to that, I just want to give them major kudos because we re from Houston but one of our MUSTS while in Austin was eating at Moonshine. time got away from us and we realized we only had a few minutes to get there before they closed. We called and let them know we were on our way. We got there at 10:58.. I felt so bad but our waitress was more than glad to serve us. She was so sweet! We get the chicken fried steak, which is ginormous, mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese but if I could order a gallon of the green chili grits, I could eat them all cause they are SO DARN GOOD!!

Moonshine Grill was amazing. Quaint little house with plenty of sitting. The Rainbow Trout with bacon stuffing was mouth watering, as was the Chicken Almondine. Couldn't have asked for better wait staff. Very informative and helpful on meal selection.

Excellent food, service and ambiance. Get there early or plan to wait 30+ minutes for a table. Farm to table food which is very well prepared and presented. The wait staff is very knowledgeable and attentive. Use the valet parking, it will save you the aggravation of hunting for a place to park.

The food was delicious. I was in Austin for a work conference and we stumbled on this amazing place. Service was good and the food was even better. Although, I would have liked my shrimp without the head, the dish was very tasty. Grits were soft and buttery. The cornbread came out warm and the butter melted right away. I was so full afterwards, I needed a nap. If we had more time I would have eaten there again before we left. I will be eating here again when I come back to Austin.

While it took a bit to get a table, drinks and apps while on the patio were worth it. The cedar plank salmon covered in chow chow was a medley of spicy jalapenos and peppers. The green beans almondine were good but super buttery and almost too much. However the fish was cooked to perfection and the unique atmosphere and menu made it feel like up scale home cooking.

Excellent food and service! Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. Good sized portions! Had their mixed grill special with steak, chicken and shrimp. Each meat had their own delicious sauce. It was perfectly cooked! Mashed potaoes and fried onion rings were very tasty! Will definitely be coming here again on the next visit to Austin!
