I heard this used to be a post office? It's close to everything, nice furniture, modern. I had a large room in the basement, I had two shower heads. Good stay.
Great location. It is near food, shopping, entertainment and the city center. The walk to the White House, national mall, etc are not far at all. The staff was very friendly. The hotel is up scale. Even the public bathroom was sweet! They had bike you could take around for free. Parking a vehicle will eat your lunch for valet ($52/night).
Went here for a 50th Birthday party. They had closed the bar down for the private party. This place is nicely located in the heart of town directly across from the Capital One Arena. It is a boutique hotel as they describe. Food was good and customer service just as good as the food. So if you want to have a 50th Birthday party this place may be for you.
Excellent decor, very friendly staff and amazing location.
The place is pet friendly and in the middle of DC, those are it's primary strenghts. The staff is friendly and theres free wine from 5-6pm everyday. The bed was a little saggy, we reserved a king but received a queen but the manager took off $50 which more than made up the few extra bed inches and the sag. We're across the street from the Smithsonian and next to the soy musuem which is cool. Bring your own face wash, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner because these just don't do it. The towels are scratchy and the linens feel worn down. It's just not as comfortable as it should be but I guess I shouldn't complain at the price point. If you're looking for location, this is the place to stay.
No power in hotel for 2-3 hours and a few rude staff members. Rooms are very small and need carpet cleaning. Wouldn t recommend.
Phenomenal location for event. Great service and food.
I attended a fundraising breakfast here on their third floor. This hotel is exceptionally gorgeous. The staff were very nice and the event space was beautiful. I would definitely want to come back here.
wow, what a hotel. great service and great rooms. just wow.
Longtime Kimpton customers just in for one day and a wedding. The hotel is nice though rooms are small and some ammenites common in other Kimpton hotels are missing. We had one unbelievably rude doorman upon arrival, but the rest of the stay was nice.
Stayed here while on business and was very impressed with the hotel and amenities. This hotel has a very historic past, worth looking up! Stop into the Dirty Habit (onsite bar/restaurant) for great drinks and food. They have a large outside seating area in the courtyard that offers a contemporary vibe with plenty of seating.
Beautiful hotel in great location. Staff were fabulous. Rooms are beautiful and quiet.
Went here for a work party and it was amazing. The dining room we were in was a work of art. The bar isn't huge but it is excellent for groups to get together. The outside area is massive but it's winter. This place is beutifle.
Friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms, neat old architecture. Very cool place to stay right across from the Verizon Center.
Classic DC at its best. Close to Verizon Center and walking distance from the Chinatown entertainment center.
Friendly staff. My room is on the 3rd floor, nice and large with 20 ft ceiling. Only downside is that my room overlooks large AC units (I think).
My wife and I (from GA) visited DC May 24th - 28th. This was our second visit to the city within six months. Although we absolutely loved the city and plan to return for leisure, we don't plan to stay at Kimpton Monaco again in the future. The first room that we checked into had a very strong musty, mildewy smell. We walked to CVS pharmacy for air freshener and it still did not quench the smell. Several hours later, we returned to the front desk and asked for a different room and the gentleman at the counter was very nice to assist us. However, during our four night stay, we were disturbed by TWO FIRE ALARMS and none of the staff were aware of why the alarms were sounding. Our bed was okay but the pillows were pancake flat. Also, the door to the bathroom was ridiculously close to the toilet and blocked the entryway to the shower. The floors made a creaking sound so whenever one of us would walk in the room it would wake up the other person. The carpet needs to be replaced with a vinyl or hard flooring. The only good thing about our stay at Kimpton Monaco was its location across from the metro station.
This place was gorgeous and clean. It has a very trendy lounge area that is comfortable and open. The rooms are immaculate. Although this place allows pets, there's no indication of that whatsoever. You can't smell that pets are there, you can't hear that pets are there. The location is great; it's within walking distance of many museums--and right across the street from the National Portrait Gallery. The staff was well-informed, friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again
I was a guest at the bar and visited a friend staying at a room on the 2nd floor. My only complaints about the hotel are that it is an older building, so some of the rooms are awkwardly arranged. Beware if you get a room on the 1st floor as well, since it is technically the basement and is not a pleasant experience.
Room service was delicious, the bed was comfortable and the staff was friendly and helpful. The lion head statue in my room was quite a sight but I enjoyed my stay.
Very positive, enthusiastic staff. Very accommodating. Will come again
Our family really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was very nice to come back after a long day on the national mall and enjoy the free drink hour. It also smells really interesting here and I will always remember the unique smell. That sounds weird. lol. Anyway, the hallways are really long and everything is decorated weird but it's a unique experience that I would recommend for anyone doing a lot in DC. The location is pretty good, but you do have to do a lot of walking, which is expected anyway. I would recommend!
The Kimpton Hotel Monaco is a well-located, directly across from the Caption One Center in downtown DC. The interior is full of character and staff is pleasant and attentive.
A bit disappointed in the service. For a hotel that is supposed to by a bit posh, I find it silly that I could not just phone in an order for breakfast to the front desk before I checked in so it would be prepared the next morning. Since the other party showed up before me, I wanted her to have breakfast delivered before a got there as a surprise. What a disappointment. Spending that much money only to have such limited service. Sure, the room was nice and all, but there are only 3 floors and we ended up in a sub street room. I get that it is a historic building and all and it is very pretty inside, but if you lack in space and whatnot, you should really make up for it in service...
Additionally the cell service is horrible. I get that it is an old building, but cell repeaters are fairly cheap. I have one in my house. Then your signal goes out over the internet... Which is also too slow.
Again, for 400 a night we should have gotten better support and amenities... There are better options if you live in this century...
I liked most of the staff.
The room could have been cleaner.
The rooms can be on the small side so expect that, but someone invested in that place once upon a time and you can see it. It just seems to have lost a lot of the polish.
A very nice hotel with spacious rooms and accommodating staff. The bathrooms may be on a different floor from the business rooms but the little bit of exercise is welcome.
Do you have a furball in your life? Do you travel with your furball? If so, kimpton hotels are just for you! I brought my little dog with and had no regrets. They made it easy for me and let me use a doggie bed and bowls for her. They also have dog bags if you forgot to bring some.
The room was decorated in a DC way. Very elegant and the bed was pretty comfy. Room was small but enough for the weekend. I did not have a view from the room. The building is old but redone very well. The staircase is pretty and there is an elevator. There is a business center and a gym.
The wine reception is awesome, such a value added service! They do end promptly at 6 so don't run late.
Overall, I loved my stay and would highly recommend it. Dog friendly winner!!!
The room was awesome with old blended with new. The room and bathroom were very clean. The architecture we cool. 3 stars because the front desk and waiters in the restaurant were reluctant to help, and weren't very competent when they did. But the bellmen and housekeeping were amazing.
Very nice. Easy walking distance to many attractions.
Good food, great rooms and good service. Great location close within walking distance to many attractions and good restaurants
What a beautiful hotel, centrally located, friendly staff and extremely clean. If you forget anything during your travels they'll assist. We'll definitely be back!
Nice hotel and the staff, especially Sergio, are super nice. There are many useful things in the room. Even umbrella and yoga mat. The design is interesting and overall we had a great time. The only cons are: 1. There is no free wifi. 2. We got our rooms on the first floor which is in the basement. This was a bit disappointing since we had no sunlight
Nice suite, however, no heat vents in the bathroom or exhaust for the shower. Also, wished they'd put a key card on the side exits so guests don't have to go around the building to re-enter. Staff was friendly & the messaging valet system for retrieval of cars was great!
My go-to place to stay in DC. Free wine and beer every night at happy hour.
Beautiful classic prewar building with excellent staff and luxury appointments. The interior courtyard of the building is open to the public and is one of the most DC outdoor bars you are going to find. Surplus of seating with table and bar service. Tasty cocktails and reasonable prices. Great for a first date, solo people watching, or meeting a group of friends/ colleagues for happy hour.
Best location for sightseeing. There are a few Kimptons in the city but this one is the most convenient one for sightseeing, close to many museums and restaurants. It's nice to be able to take breaks in your room between activities. The service and amenities are what you would expect from Kimptons so there are no complaints there. The building is interesting and beautiful, providing spacious rooms with huge windows. Price wise the Monaco is not economy class but it's still affordable; somehow cheaper than Holiday Inn during the Memorial Day weekend.
Beautiful room, but tiny. Most in DC are but it is sticker shock if it's your first time. A bit far from sights, but right on the bus line and a block from the rail system.
Really fun boutique feel hotel. The cocktails are excellent.
Great food. Was there for a social event. Staff is very professional.
It's a nice hotel but a little weird. The huge lion head over my bed was unsettling. And I'm disappointed that no one ever brought a water dish for my dog when the hotel emphasizes pet friendliness.
Beautiful hotel! Had a great experience and loved the place.
Always a wonderful visit when I stay at the Kimpton Monaco. Without a doubt, the best hotel for going to a Caps game as well as enjoying the local. Great restaurants, bars, stores and historically significant sites. Location can't be beat, building is absolutely beautiful and the staff are always friendly and professional. By far my fav hotel in D.C.
Hotel Monaco was warm and welcoming. Quentin was so helpful as we checked in. He was an awesome ambassador for the hotel. I m looking forward to my next visit to Hotel Monaco. Hopefully all employees are as engaging as Quentin.
The staff is amazing. It was so easy to stay sanitized because of precautions they are taking to keep clean. The restaurant food was delicious.
Beautiful hotel, wonderful staff. GREAT location, walking distance to all museums and War memorials.
John the f & b manager should give lectures on service. His mannerisms & professionalism are imperative to keep the hospitality industry alive. Amazing hotel & emplyees.
Beautiful hotel with great location! Pet friendly! Valet parking only (for a fee). Walking distance to Capitol one arena and many museums.
Stayed at this hotel on the 15th and 16th of June.
I wanted to drive through the night, so it was a relief that we could check in early in the morning.
The hotel is beautiful and very clean. The staff are exceptionally friendly! The door was held open for me 90% of the time in the daytime plus, every member from valet to housekeeping and in between said hello with a smile every time I passed by them to and from the hotel.
I joked about the quality as the hotel was beyond the cost of the stay. The service they provide is top notch. Additionally, the hotel is located in a great area Many attractions are close. The Smithsonian museums are mainly a few blocks away pr half a mile from the location and there is a movie theater a block away. Plus, many great DC attractions are close. The amount a person can see within two miles of walking in a predominantly flat DC is amazing. We walked everywhere!
*Note*
It did cost 59 dollars a day to valet our car.
The crew at this hotel is the most welcoming and friendly I have ever come across. Jojo (manager of restuarant in the Monaco) was especially accommodating and made are whole visit that much more enjoyable. Rooms and lobby are like no other in D.C.. Keep up the great work Monaco!
Very nice venue...service team was super. Awesome food and I really enjoyed my sip of Pappy while people watching w my sweetie at Dirty Habit. Cool evening.
Have stayed at this hotel many times and this time I payed almost double and the little touches were missing. Hopefully next time if the rate isn't so high it will be better.
Drinks at the hotel bar, in the courtyard. Nice outdoor space and good happy hour specials
Unfortunately, the pictures on the website do not give justice to that wonderful place. My stay there was beyond my expectations! My room was amazing. So stylish. We rent the Athens room and the Paris room for our event on May 27. Excellent customer service, food, drink, a/v guy. Hats off guys please keep up good work. Coming back in that hotel for sure when I am in DC and when we look a place for events
This building used to be - I believe - the first post office in DC. The facade is spectacular. The location is terrific, the afternoon happy hour is a treat, and the rooms range from very good to wonderful.
The first room key that the desk gave us did not work so we had to get another one. The rooms were luxurious and roomy.
Thank you for a wonderful stay! We arrived one evening when an event was occurring at the Verizon Center nearby, so the valet line was double-parked beyond the block. One person in our party got out to check-in & mentioned to the one valet guy at the stand we were hotel guests - he immediately attended to us & our car while the one in our party checked-in.
When we were walking through the lobby going to our room, we were greeted with special gift bags just for us (dogs) by the front desk staff! We both got a chew toy & several treats. There was a dog bed and bowl waiting in our room.
The room was spacious and clean. The building is interesting and has historical significance, if you like that. The location is great - especially if you want to visit any sites near the national mall.
Lovely facility; staff was very accommodating. Very clean throughout.
Drinks are well made but usually there is a long line to get a bartender attention. Great patio space and good for large crowds.
An absolutely stunning hotel! Stylish. European style. Clean, has a wonderful restaurant in the hotel. I loved it! It gives you a resort feel. And the staff bend over backwards for you! Shout out to Mr Moore the evening shift receptionist! You rock. You love your job and it shows. Thank you. Hotel Monaco is lucky to have you as an employee
Historic building, convenient location. The restaurant is so good.
This was my first time in DC in years so we chose the Kimpton Monaco due to it's location. The hotel was perfectly located, within easy walking distance of most of the museum's and right next to the spy museum. Our room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the staff friendly. The only drawback to the experience was parking, which I felt was in the expensive side since it was valet parking when I had no need to access my car once it was parked until we were ready to to leave. Still, an excellent hotel for a great weekend in DC.
Nice clean hotel, with great architecture. Rooms were a bit tight for storage, half an armuoir; the other half was full of their"stuff for sale" fridge. Even the fridge was full of their stuff. The only other storage was three small open face shelves in the bathroom for folded clothing. Kitchen was under renovation, so no comment there. Great central location though; lots of stuff to do in the area. I would stay here again.
Hotel in an old building, with high ceilings and wide hallways. Nice rooms and nice staff. Unfortunately not suitable for disabled people.
I enjoyed my stay. The room had great views of the Mississippi river! The beds were extremely comfortable. The room was quiet and no external noise
Beautiful hotel! The service was exceptional and I was very pleased with my visit. The locations was fabulous too; surrounded by tons of great bars and restaurants.
