Horrible! Both Methodist central on Colorado Blvd in Dallas, and Charlton Methodist in DeSoto are awful! I am a severe asthmatic, and a respiratory therapist for 14 yrs, and an RN for over 20 years. I came in the other day with an acute asthma attack. An attack that could have landed me a hospital stay. My vital signs were HR 115, BP 154/105, respirations 24, and an oxygen saturation of 94%. I was made to wait in the waiting room for an hour in this condition! I left!!! No, I was not better when I left, but I certainly felt safer in the parking lot, walking to my car, than I did in that hospital. I WILL NEVER set foot in another Methodist hospital facility....not even for a paper cut. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND anyone going to this subpar hospital system. If you want to stay alive, DON'T GO THERE. Hell, I'll even go to Parkland....NOT ANY METHODIST! Totally know why they get 2.6 stars out of five. If I could choose a negative number of stars, I would.
In addition, I would like to comment on these "patient satisfaction scores": don't be fooled people, it is NOT about your satisfaction! IT IS about hospital reimbursement!! Money!!! Corporate greed!!! I am on the inside, and I know their motives. The higher the scores, and the fewer complaints, the higher they get reimbursed. SO FILLED THOSE BABIES OUT AND DON'T HOLD BACK!! HIT EM WHERE IT HURTS!!
This premise of higher reimbursement also pertains to these "magnet" hospitals. If at least 80% of their nursing staff has a bachelor's degree, GUESS WHAT?! YEP! HIGHER reimbursement!! A bachelor's degree does not make you A better nurse. I have known many associate degree nurses who run circles around a BSN. I have seen great nurses with many, many years of experience, turned down for jobs they were well qualified for, and a BSN fresh out of school hired instead. I was a great nurse when I got my associate, and I am a great RN/BSN. My degree did not define the quality of care I give my patients. The Methodist hospitals, and some others, could give rats furry behind whether the quality of care from a BSN is better than an Associate degree nurse. It is all about money, the bottom line, the Benjamin's. Happy to have possibly educated some of you out there. Stay well, stay happy, and stay out of Methodist hospitals!
