Mello Velo is a top notch bike shop with excellent customer service. They've been able to squeeze my bikes in for service before races, with short notice.
I broke a frame and Mello Velo came through, hassle free, on the warranty.
I'm picking up a new cross-bike from them today!

Great customer service... Patiently answered so many questions of mine regarding bicycle maintenance... Awesome people!! They also have second hand bikes...
Great atmosphere, excellent selection of bikes, gear & accessories during this difficult time to find anything. Bonus coffee shop/Cafe in the same building
Went in on 6/4, looking for a used bike. When i couldn't find anything within the specs that I was looking for, Bryan recommended a new bike that fit my needs and wasn't too far outside my price range. Their service is excellent, they're not pushy salesmen, and they know their stuff. Also purchased some stuff on 6/5 and they were great on recommending an appropriate lock and helmet. All in all great business. Will definitely come back for my biking needs. (I have also heard their food is phenomenal, though I have never tried it.)
My wife, daughters and I came here for dinner last week. I wasn't expecting anything fantastic. It's a coffee shop attached to a bike shop and the people are awfully nice, but I wasn't anticipating anything great. I ordered a macchiato, one daughter got a smoothie, and we all ordered sandwiches. Not only was the food phenomenal, but they brought it out to our table and waited on us above and beyond. I had the tempeh wrap and it was fresh, filling, delicious. My wife and daughters each had sandwiches that they thought were great. Everyone finished their meals and was satisfied and wondering when we can come back again.
Prices were very fair for such great food and the macchiato was top notch. I'll go again and again.
There is something for everyone here and the kitchen staff is happy to make modifications when requested. Our group enjoyed salads, soups, and a variety of entrees that were presented artfully and tasted delicious. I had the Butter Chicken; a mound of rice arrived situated in a fragrant moat of curried sauce with chicken. I was surprised that there were bones in the chicken but the meat slid off the bone easily. We ordered a variety of beers and later teas and coffees; the teas beautifully served with colorful pots and cups. The waitstaff was attentive and each course arrived promptly. We did not order dessert because we did not need them after our filling dinner. I wish I had ordered french fries because they smelled so good wafting from the kitchen! I will definitely be back!
Had dinner here last night (8/10/18). Food and vibe was excellent with a wonderful staff to boot.
Wife and I ordered the Mac n cheese to share as an app. It was perfect. Not too heavy, great flavor.
She ordered a sandwich w bacon and pear and I got the bahn mi. It was all delicious. The bahn mi was a touch soggy on the bottom, it was the only criticism I have of the whole place. Going back for sure.
Wonderful dinner, so glad we stopped here. Fix the wet bottom bread on the bahn mi and I will order one on the regular.
In my opinion, which is known far and wide, best cafe/ restaurant in town. But if you don t like great food and better people, nice lighting and good atmosphere, then maybe it s not the place for you
I loved the cafe at this bike shop. It had fresh and light meals, attracting an athletic crowd, but it was joined to the bike shop so that was a given. They seem to have closed the cafe to expand the bike shop for a period of time, but I do not know if they have reopened the cafe.
I had a very specific type of bike that I wanted and was prepared to spend a lot of time searching for it. I found exactly what I wanted at Mello Velo. The owner and staff patiently answered all of my questions (I hadn't been on a bike in 50 years) and let me take the bike for a test run (after making adjustments for my height, etc.). Great selection of bikes and accessories.
3 weeks ago I purchased a new bike at the shop Kona Rove ST very pleased with service and the bike is first class. I was encouraged to test ride a couple of models to find the best fit and setup. I can be a pain a customer but patience was provided by the shop and I recommend Melo Velo thanks Steve. Stay for lunch try the Peloton great sandwich
This was my first visit to their new store, which is beautiful! Always, I have complete confidence in their expertise, their customer service is great, and they keep me on my bike!
Needed a new bike for my soon to be teenager. Had no idea what to buy, had a budget, and Mello Velo met all our needs. Left confident in my purchase, satisfied with the five star service on a busy Saturday afternoon, and look forward to returning for my next purchase. I highly recommend their services.
I love Mello Velo and the rating, for what it is worth, will be changed when the issues are addressed.
Sunday is a huge day for cycling, and Mello Velo makes a stand for cycling. It stands on the remnant of the Erie Canal trail, which will be busy on Sunday.
Can a house really provide a brunch and close at two? Especially when the web site gives closing hour as three? I watched as five or six people hit a closed door at 2:05 PM, looking for food. Does the house really want to say, "There's no Sunday Funday at Mello Velo"?
The bike shop extends no services on Sunday, no repairs and no sales. I watched as two men pulled up in a Texas Cadillac, expensive bike rack on the back. Tried the door. No one should be trying a door that won't open when there's a door that will open. That's one of the goals of way-finding. Making sure the open door is open and easily found. No one quite knows that the house has three doors, two of which stay open with the bike shop closes.
"I wanted to buy a bike", said the man to me. So, about a thousand dollars in business hit that door and bounced elsewhere. These guys were clearly packing platinum credit.
Sunday afternoon business isn't marginal business, the spending of a dollar to earn a dollar. It's the spending of a dollar to make five dollars. Consider allocating Monday hours to cover Sunday hours, as many Sunday orientated businesses do.
Fantastic little place. Rustic, with great bikes from Bianchi and Kona. Bought a Kona Dew for myself at a fair price, and a lightly used Specialized Arial for my wife. Custumer service is excellent, even with it being as busy as it is. Went to the bigger store in town, and was put off by the attitude.
They have a neat little cafe too.
I have recommended this store to friends, and would go back to upgrade my bike.
Though woke (staff and owners by design of the disease) has mysterious pathways I'm pretty sure it can't contaminate food handling but f you do interact or hand feed them be advised because it is the added feature for at least my amusement when I was under cover there. You can trigger some valuable responses should you be fascinated with woke and have your shots should you mention me as a trigger asked not to return if i asked for a discussion or explanation or a chance to answer to their complaints about my personality. Good food and fun with casual sophistication for a mom and pop business combo. Give them your support. The leftist disease is a transitional thing like the hippies but worth mentioning here for a select few of you intermittently. I now have to disguise myself as a trans woman in a hijab and a Silence Ben Shapiro button to service my "trailcams" there
I adore the cafe. Deliveries made by bicycle, amazing paninis, and a full meal for less than $8. It's the best place in Syracuse for affordable (lookin' at you, Stronghearts!), healthy, fresh food that actually tastes good too!
If the owner is reading this, though: your internet never works on my laptop. Otherwise, a #1 study spot.
The food was fantastic. I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. The wings had the perfect crisp. Bailey was a great server - pleasant and attentive. I will definitely be returning.
I recently went here 3 times in the same week. Food is fantastic, and there isn't another place like it in Syracuse. Definitely make a point to come here for the breakfast. Great variety of options for vegetarians too!
You have a bike, you want a bike, you want bike accessories or anything related to a bike, go here. They'll hook you up, tell you what's wrong with stuff when things break or don't work so you know how to prevent it again, and they'll tell you about bike maintenance in depth. Definitely a rad place to be. I bike year round and through winter and these guys are experts. They also.bike through winter and year round so they know their stuff.
Never bought a new bike in my life, Never thought I would either but after multiple visits and chats with awesome customer service not only did I buy a brand new bike but bought one a month later for my wife. Good dudes great service and killer bikes. Best bike shop in Syracuse hands down!
Love this place for the amazing vegan options! We had the tofu scramble and added some sriracha, simply divine! Plus the cocktails were delicious, probably in the top five brunch cocktails in the area that we ve had
I don't even want to admit how excellent this cafe is! Every element of our order was fantastic, the menu options were eclectic and healthful. The staff both in the cafe and the shop are welcoming and helpful. I had a smoothie, a full pour coffee, a cubano breakfast sandwich and two additional fried eggs. Every element was perfect. Also tasted the brioche French toast. Very excited to try their full lunch options and get something off their well selected tap list.
Traveling from out of state and needed crash repair on my mountain bike. They went above and beyond to get my bike fixed and back on our road trip fast. Thanks.
We ordered some lunch recently for pick up and everything was great. Portions were generous. Flavor was spot on. And they treated us healthcare workers to a special treat which was so kind. We wanted to support our local businesses during this chaotic period and they returned the favor! Thank you so much for the great food and thank you so much for the delicious treats. Nothing like some good comfort food to help get us through the day!
These guys are AWESOME! I had a wheel that I was having issues truing and took it to them. I really wanted the wheel fixed to be able to ride over the weekend. They offered to keep the wheel and "try" to fix it and did have a new one I could purchase. Matt hooked me up and moved the cassette and brake from the old wheel in just minutes! Wasn't there longer than maybe 15 min! I will definitely go back! Great experience! Thanks MV!
This was my first time going to any bike shop besides the local one in my old town. The shop was very neat, they handled my problem so quickly I was amazed. The prices and service can't be beaten. I would recommend this shop to anyone who can get there. I can't explain how great it was! GO THEREE!!
Why a 5-star place? Where to start? First (and far from most important) , the location is in a cool area of Syracuse. Lots of young upscale college kids from all around the country either live near here or visit this area (Westcott St.). More
Very cool place. So chill that I don't want to tell anyone. Vibes are so relaxed and the food so comforting, you have to root for this place to succeed. Saw people from 8 years old to 75 eating there. Inside or outside. Relaxed, bright dining areas. Unique dining layout helps to hear conversations at your own table instead of a noisy restaurant. Food was excellent and they make it all there. Breakfast all day is a great option they offer. Can't wait to try different menu items. There is a bar there, but I did not use it or experience it.
Bought a lock and helmet - first guy was super helpful re: which one to buy, etc. very smooth process.
While I was installing the lock, second sales associate asked me if I could do it 'not here.' After dropping $180 I was asked to leave to set it up elsewhere because they had 'no room' in the bike shop.
Significantly, there are two bike lifts for work behind the counter. One was free. Maybe he could have offered me one to set up the lock, which would have taken 5 minutes and not an ounce of otherwise used space.
Turned out that the lock didn't fit my bike super well, and it would have been best to loosen a water bottle holding screw with an Allen wrench that I didn't have - had I been in the shop, they could have facilitated that process easily. But I was outside, and not keen to go back in.
Had the store been super busy I would have understood, but there was literally one other customer in the shop.
What an ass.
To summarize, your chances are 50/50 of working with a total moron or very helpful salesperson. You might even get both! Good luck.
Haven t been to the bicycle shop, but the cafe? OMG. What a hidden gem. The hush puppies were my favorite! Also, the falafel burger was a great vegetarian burger that is often hard to master, so I m impressed. Fairly priced and fast service.
Truly excellent service, super quick and communicative. I will never go anywhere else!! They do not nickel and dime, and they're overall very good at what they do.
I am a big fan of this shop, and I stop by after work frequently -- the staff is always very friendly and seem genuinely happy to help you with your bike and/or your latte.
What a beautiful Syracuse gem. This is an exemplary business that provides quality service, friendly & helpful staff members, and a delicious bite to eat all within a gorgeously renovated and repurposed vintage building.
Mello Velo is a one-of-a-kind in Syracuse. Their food selection is unique, their coffee is very good and their beer selection is updated regularly with local and popular options.
If you go for breakfast, try an oat milk late and for food: any of the options that include potatoes. Those roasted potatoes are some of the best I've ever had. Recently, I had a pesto tofu plate that was pretty good, but had too many onions for my taste.
For lunch, their sandwiches are interesting pairings of flavors and toppings. Highly recommend ordering one and a smoothie.
Only negative note that I have is about the wait. Whenever I go I need to make sure I have a full hour or more. I understand and I'm not mad, but the wait is a little long to get your food.
Extremely friendly staff & very friendly environment! They have an excellent selection of bikes and will make sure to fit you with the best bike/equipment for your needs. Best bike shop is Syracuse from what I ve seen.
Just bought my wife a beautiful mother's day bike from this shop. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. It is obvious that the owner cares about his customers and his trade. I highly recommend this bike shop!
Such a great hidden gem for breakfast! Very friendly staff and food was great. Mimosa is a real size for a drink which was nice (not those tiny glasses) Benedict is in my top 3 for this area. Highly recommend. It's small inside so get there at opening to get a table as they fill up quick.
We live an hour away from this shop (and there are shops much closer) but this is where we will be going for our cycling needs. We were looking for a specific type of bike (off-road touring bikes). Mike and Chris both helped us, both were SUPER knowledgeable. (In fact, on our first visit, we left to check out some other shops nearby and went right back to Mello Velo!) They procured our bikes, our equipment, fit us, and really went out of their way to make sure we got what we needed, all with absolutely NO PRESSURE. Steve, the owner, actually pitched in to help us, too. (He even gave us a trailer and rack he was going to keep for himself.) Can't say enough good things about the shop.
We love the place, not only because it's super close but because we love the space, the people that work there and the food. Could perhaps be a great go to spot.
Their bicycle shop is wonderful. I asked them if they could fix my push golf cart (after being told that golf carts can t be fixed) and they took it saying we can figure it out . Well, they did and at a very reasonable charge for doing it. Gotta love the can do attitude of these folks! I just ordered the part and instructions ( which they didn t need or use) and they took it from there. I recommend them highly for golf cart repair and, of course, bicycle repairs!
Super helpful bike repairers who are incredibly friendly. They were incredibly patient in explaining to me a basic bike maintenance process. Their prices for bike repair were very fair. Definitely will use them again.
I've been here to eat or just for drinks lots of times and it never disappoints! The food is great and I've always had lovely service from the bartenders and servers. I'm vegan but my dad isn't, so we like this place because it has lots of choices for both of us. The atmosphere feels clean and fresh but still quirky and interesting due to the bicycle theme. I've also brought my bike to the shop to be worked on for a chain/gear issue and another time for a flat tire and both times the staff has been super helpful and fixed my issue quickly. The services were also reasonably priced! Will definitely be back for any bicycle-related needs.
I am rating this restaurant 1 star as our waiter forged an additional tip for himself on our credit card bill. Yes, this actually happened and it was the first time this has ever happened to me. The food was actually quite good. I am in the process of disputing the charge and will call the restaurant tomorrow. Pay cash here...
We visited for the first time today and it was FABULOUS. So glad they have vegan options. We had the pesto tofu scramble and the vegan Huevos and everything was delicious. The chai tea was hands down the best I ve ever had. Love the vibe here. Looks like we ve found another favorite place to eat.
I spend a lot of time in this place (maybe too much time) and the service, food and drink is consistently great. I've also purchased a bike in the bike shop, and have been very pleased with it. Please, everyone come out and support this fine, local business. They deserve it -- and so do you!
I have never been disappointed! Their sandwiches are the best I've tasted out of everywhere else I've been around Syracuse and ESF campuses. I would suggest this place to anyone. Anything with their maple bacon is a god send.
I was searching for a used bicycle that was in good working shape and this shop definitely impressed me. The guy who helped us, I didn't get his name, but he had glasses, he was so knowledgeable about bicycles. Some things he said went right over my head, but I was grateful that he knew exactly what he was talking about. He even took the time to watch us test ride the bikes to make sure they fit us properly. That was quality service. My bicycle is amazing, I just fixed a child seat to it and I could not be happier with my purchase. Great service and products! Recommend to everybody!
I went in to buy a road bike - upgrading from a cheapo hybrid. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. Had several choices between new and used bikes in a variety of price points. Invited me outside to test drive the bikes and I had his full attention. He pointed out the pros and cons of each bike and was geniuinely interested in my feedback to sell me the best bike for me. Absolutely no pressure sales. He allowed me plenty of time to decide which bike was right for me.
All my questions were answered without making me feel silly or like i was wasting his time.
I am incredibly happy with the level of service as well as the bike itself. I am completely confident that they will stand by their product should I have any issue.
I cannot recommend more strongly - if you are looking for a quality bike and want to be treated like a valued customer, Mello Velo is THE place to go!
Ordered the popper burger with cheese chicken wings and fries. The burger was supposed to be medium rare however it came very rare, hardly warm. They forgot the cheese on the burger however it likely had a half a brick of cream cheese on it, I love cream cheese however that's far too much. We were still charged for the cheese on the burger so it isnt as if the order wasn't keyed right but I wasn't going to drive back to dispute $2. The wings hardly had any flavor to them at all, the staff said it was supposed to be a sweet hot sauce, not the case. The fries aren't anything spectacular. All in our bill came to $38 which I would have been disappointed if it was only $20. The only redeeming piece was their gorgonzola cheese sauce for the wings. I highly doubt we will be back.
Noticed this place while taking a detour recently. The bright building is very eye catching and encouraged me to stop by a few days later. Went with a friend for lunch and got a salad and a sandwich. The food was delicious, staff was friendly and the atmosphere was low-key and funky. Will be going back for dinner and a beer from their well rounded tap list.
I got my bike fixed there and they went the extra mile. This is what all local bike shops should be like. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable and the work was completed in a timely manner. I will most definitely take my business there in the future.
Second time and just as happy as the first. Brunch on Sunday is tasty, well presented with unique offering. Lunch was just as good, did not disappoint. Just a side note for ppl who love wings Mello Velo s wing rival Shiftys!
