My girlfriend and I went into The Spoke a few days before embarking on our first long-distance 3-month bicycle tour. Paul Rinehart, the owner, spent ALL DAY helping us get ready. He was extremely generous with his time and enthusiastically taught us so many things about touring. I've been to several bike shops in the Berkshires, but none were so well stocked with touring gear. Thanks Paul!

We purchased an expensive bicycle here and were told the first tune up would be free. When we had the tune up done, we were told that we had not had it done soon enough- that we would be charged for full price for the tune up. The price was excessive and the worker behind the counter was argumentative and rude. We will never use their service again and will certainly not recommend this shop.

After 2 months of trying to purchase 2 new bikes and being told one was ordered, it never came to fruition. Although contact information was given to them multiple times there was no communication from them whatsoever. We stopped back in to the store multiple times to check in with them since we heard nothing. After finally checking back in with them a week after said bike should have been received by them and finding that the person who should know the status is away and nobody else could help, we gave up. We went to Plaine's and both had new bikes inside 3 days. Communication needs some work.

Introduced to this shop through a close friend and WOW, what can I say. Paul, the owner, is an avid cyclist and bike mechanic and really really knows his stuff. I'm an amateur around bikes and the like but I work in specialty sports retail and this is the kind of service and attention to detail we all strive for. Without being pushy or condescending, Paul walked me top to bottom through touring essentials (on my first tour across the US currently). He built me a beautiful touring bike that has crushed the CA coast, and I'm confident it'll carry me much much further. If you're at all interested in cycling, head to The Spoke and ask for Paul. It's the kind of experience that'll energize your biking spirit and remind you why specialty shops like this are so so important. Five stars, but I'd give more if I could.

I've never been to the Spoke, but I met the owner, Paul, today under unusual circumstances. I was out for a ride, and got a flat in Kinderhook, NY. I thought I had it fixed, but I couldn't get the new tube to inflate. Just then, a man came out from the house across the street, and asked me if I needed to use his air pump. He asked me where I was from, and if I ever go to Williamstown, and I said, "sure." He said, "I own a bike shop in Williamstown!" And, he proceeded to fix my tire in about 60 seconds, and refused to let me pay him anything for the new tube he had to use. As we say in NYC, he was a mensch. If the service he offers in his shop is anything like the favor he did for a stranger -- and I'm sure it is -- you can't go wrong at The Spoke.

I was in Williamstown for a short weekend in early April, gunked up my drive train without a way to clean it. I met Paul the owner and can't say enough about the experience. Paul, to my discovery, is probably the most skilled/experienced mechanic (having worked Mavic neutral support at the world's most famous races) I've run into. Yet his observations about my how I could improve my bike set-up never felt like hard sells and I instinctually decided to go with his suggestions already knowing I had issues to address. Addressing them in the manner he suggested fixed those issues and and another serious one that I had not yet mentioned. Am really glad I stopped in!
