Terminal 4 international doesn't have much on offer. After you have passed the international security screening. There is a duty free area and nothing after that.
This airport is small for Melbourne population, I was just surprised about that.
My experience in this airport has been the worst of any airport I ve been in in Australia. Not enough toilets, there is only one food option for the Terminal with all the virgin Australia flights. One of the bathrooms in a major international airport legitimately only had one stall with 6 people waiting in line. Flying virgin in Melbourne is not ideal, and the airport has made it bad.
Autos an airport very busy clean and tidy facilities
Small, busy, expensive, needs an overdue upgrade, lots of variety with food and shops though
We went to drop off family. Given the covid situation, the staff and security arrangements were good. Everyone was very patient, responsive and helpful.
Not at all a comfortable departure experience. So stupid to not have a rail link. The car park is stupidly monstrous. Tacking new terminals onto the side is not going to make this place any better.
Sorry to be blunt review.
The carparking is a nightmare.
The terminal 4 parking area is like a maze and was charged $25 for waiting only 15 minutes to pick a friend up in the tower that I was mislead into by badly placed signage.
The roads leading there are so confusing that even a GPS gets confused.
I suggest to put up signs that are clearly displayed and not small or hidden in bad locations.
Most diverse airlines of any airport I have ever visited. Small, clean, understandable airport. Limited parking. CurbFlip approved.
The place where I first time tried Qantas Airline Self Check-In. Great Airport !
They don't use good almond milk. You've been warned.
Ohh my lordy.. mel airport is a trash bin that needs to be demolished and start new. Everything new, tiles, paint ect. The t4 terminal is horrendous, the amount of times passenger's get confused where about to go check in and so is bad. How bout the airport pay for proper big signs for all to see and navigate easier than wasting money on those led lights under the bridge. Dont know how and who was allowed to build and design t4. Its a total mess. This whole airport lacks everything especially when there is flight delays and so on. Have some proper seating, restaurants and cafes that are newly updated..yous are making plenty of money from the parking you tight asses. Could go on and on. Just a waste of time.
Weirdest airport in the world.
First of all its in the middle of nowhere, with no public transport. It will cost you a solid 19$ per person on the bus and around 100$ per taxi. It's absolutely ridiculous and I don't understand how such a big city can do with such low access to international.
It's also weirdly built in the sense that you're always walking around and can get confused.
Staff is absolutely utterly unfriendly.
Get your game up Melbourne, without good access to the world you will never be an international capital.
only 2 ppl there because of coroner disease? not sure.. but very fast security no people
What a disaster the new terminal 4 is, after waiting at original terminal for a plane unaware of a new terminal until trying to find boarding gate and asking staff, 20min walk from main terminal as there not inter connecting you need to go back out and through security again. The distance from the food court to the gates is ridiculous, I have never had to walk so far at an Airport, I feel sorry for the elderly who have to experience this. what a joke that the new terminal is so far from the old.!!! Unbelievable such a stupid design was approved...
Why does one get hustled for taxis inside the airport?
It is not fair for those taxis waiting in line outside!
30.September at 11.30 pm
Without usb chargers, even beijin have more usb chargers per gate....
Melbourne is quite interesting, the road can be far away, but we are presented with paintings and image patches on the airport walls that are very cool, and at each corner have different image characters, so even though the road is far away, it feels close, because it keeps being stretched
Not the friendliest design with surrounding businesses as a focus rather than customer convenience. No waiting bays at the departure gates so they make everyone wait elsewhere. I expected more from Melbourne.
Clean, staff passable but somehow dull and failing to reflect Melbourne's ultra-vibrant soul...oh, it's located entire light years from the downtown area too.
I love Melbourne, just not their airport... There is a lot of work to do to sort out the flow of traffic. Queue after queue made it painful! However once through all the queuing it's a fairly small airport with a good selection of shops and places to eat. You wouldn't want to be stranded here as the selection can seem limiting
Ok airport compare to both national and international airport. Need improvement. :)
The airport is honestly amazing, but the workers seemed really weird, when you get into the duty-free zone you are marked as no longer in Australia's areas. And arent even aloud to go out and have a smoke {if you do} There arent even KFC or Mcdonalds, luckily there is one hungry jacks. 6/10 3 star airport.
Not the greatest airport. For us foreign people coming in the signs weren't clear where to go. You had to pay to use trolleys. Average service here. It seemed a big mess of the whole layout.
I ve travelled through Melbourne Airport as a frequent flyer on several occasions. The reason for the low rating is due to an experience with the security folks at the gate on my way to Hawaii with Jetstar.
Please make sure that the security personnel screening at the gate are trained so that they know how to interact with people. I also dont appreciate Melbourne Airport passing the buck following my formal complaint.
More broadly, this is a small clean airport with duty free shopping options and quite easy to navigate.
I had been there for several times. The stuff are very friendly and willing to help the people who are first visiting here. However, the poor design might waste you 15-30 mins to check in, even for those who come to the airport every week.
Therefore, do be patient and arrive at least 1 hour before your flight, then everything should be fine.
it is rubbish parking. never you use your crredit card. it charged me twice. emailed everything and no reply and dont tell you anthing. dont use online booking!!!!!
This must be the slowest security check ever. Hardly any passengers and it takes ages to get through. #thirdworldstandards
It's average airport, security lines are long at certain parts of the day like the morning, 20 minutes walk from security to the other side of the international terminal or i am just a slow walker.
Good variety of destinations and airlines, some airport lounges are underground and small like Malaysia airlines.
Old, out of date building. With the slowest baggage claim any ground handling staff of all destinations. Unnecessary quarantine that constantly waste everyone's time like no other country. It's always a pain to fly back to this airport.
Most probably the least efficient, least welcoming airport. Certainly not designed with traveller in mind.
Not a good design for returning travellers. Too congested and not enough space to collect the baggage. Also what is up with the questionnaire before the security check? Is there even a point in answering the question of yes or no if you have been travelling to certain countries? Isn t this done when you leave and get your visa? All round stupid immigration and security check process.
Good airport....parking still expensive although they reduced recently
If its your first time at the airport, finding gates, toilets, food and drinks outlets, other stores is extremely easy. It is one of the easier airport to get from a to b without any hassle.
UberX isn't allowed to enter the airport forcing you to order it for a further away point and then call the driver to tell them where you are. Get with the times even Perth airport has an Uber pickup point. My short walk through the airport told me all I wanted to know ageing and in need of some maintenance the toilets were tiny and the baggage collection kept getting stuck.
A generally well maintained and straightforward facility, but the airport needs more space, sometimes its absolutely chockers in there. Staff are nice
I use this airport 20-30 times a year both domestic and intl. I feel ashamed this is the first experience tourists have of Melbourne; and frustrated every time I have to use it. It is slow and inefficient to move through and the queues are long. Traffic congestion is appalling and the lack of public transport astounding. I can't think of another city that doesn't have an express transit train to the airport.
Great atmosphere. Saw the Adelaide crows at the airport and it turned out that they were on the same plane as us. (VA223)
I came here to study in 2003. And it saddens me that there isnt many changes. No rail. Poor traffic. Poorly lit verandah. Small airport for this international city.
Poor signage and no exit/bypass means if you want to see the rates for short term, you have to pay (there is no alternative route). It is an abysmal system (basically a scam), and they should offer a way out / bypass route/ grace period.
I drove straight to the exit as there was no other legal alternative and I explained my situation to the staff through the intercom at exit but they showed no interest or customer service skills.
Much improved airport over the years. Like all airports they can charge what they want for parking, food & drinks. What disappoints me the most is Airport staff right up to management level from all airlines have cigarettes hanging from their mouths, smoking (in designated area's) whining about work and customers. Not a good look.
It's a joke that this airport actually closes the all the outlets AND security, only opening at 4am despite all the flights leaving between 5-6am. It's and airport, not a shopping mall!
Every time I arrive back to Melbourne I'm happy to see the airport. Look, its not the most friendly of places but what airport is? Convenient, functional and reliable.
New e-tag system is bulshit. Not update on the spot. Take 24 hours on weekends. I waste my 2 hrs and money as well. Really disappointing. They should leave ON the other card system alternatively at least for a month until resolve the issues.
It is a confusing and poorly laid out airport that s too far from the city of Melbourne. However it does enable you to fly both nationally and internationally.
Is the airport closed and when will it be reopened?
Without fail, one of the worst airports for baggage handling I've been to. Every flight, there's an enormous delay in getting the baggage off the plane and delivered.
The airport is just OK. It has improved check in, security, departures, arrivals and customs facilities. It would be good if there are more public transport options to the city and things to do other than shopping. Skybus is just too expensive. In terminal 2, why place duty free stores in the walkway and force people to walk through it after security?
The slowest Arrival bagagge receiving crousel in the world. Waited more than an hour just to collect my checked in luggage. Rude staff. Overall a horrible experience for my family n I.
I just flew in and out and it was excellent quick and the staff were really polite.
Tullamarine is easily one of the worst airports in the world... The place is a mess for an international airport.. Even when construction works are going at the moment, it has to have enough gates and apron area for planes to approach the terminal s aero bridges... Fancy paying to fly premium only to walk down stairs..
Worst airport in the developed world. Always takes hours to get through customs. Parking is ridiculously expensive, even more than in the CBD.
Free wifi+++, calm and great views on the airfield.
The free WiFi and plenty of power outlets was convenient during long stints between flights.
The International terminal is a shambles! There is no structure or fluency to its setup. Unlike Sydney International Airport, Melbournes is very difficult to navigate around if you aren't familiar with it. When the cues are busy and long it makes matters worse. The Domestic terminals are far better to navigate around with large open spaces to allow for alot of travellers.
If you want to go places in this world then you really must visit Melbourne Airport.
They can get you places.
Well technically speaking the airport doesn't get you anywhere its the airlines. And really when people complain about the airport they are really complaining about the planes.
So as far as an airport goes Melbourne airport is not bad. OK food, OK parking, OK lounges.
So when you next have to wait for a plane, why not consider Melbourne Airport.
Pickup zone woefully inadequate to handle cars and people.. 25min wait to get my ride round and round
Thumbs down for this airport. Overpriced parking, no transportation directly to the airport and the waiting is the worst. The lounge is not great either. Should look at Singapore airport for tips and an upgrade.
The the 4$fee to use the trolley to carry luggage made me laugh. The machines put in place to check in took longer for the older generation leaving them to the only assistance available, a not so polite Cathay pacific person. The luggage drop off guy couldn't spare a smile, either. The boarding n emigration process was unmanned so it was fine. Very High tech, which is cool. But a smile comes a long way people. The waiting areas at designated gates didn't have charging points. No easy comfy chairs.
Another airport....nothing extraordinary but totally functional.
