I always thought living in Houston was a blessing because I had the best cancer center but I was wrong. I have donated money for many years and I regret it, I was given the worst news ever my father went to the ER with blood clots and then we discovered he has cancet, I decided I wanted him treated at MD Anderson so when I called to get him in they called me back and said they can't see him because his out patient coverage is not effective, this place has no compassion of anyone I learned they are all about the money they leave you to die, they didn't offer to transfer my call to anyone that can help financially, Im very heartbroken. Dont donate money to these people please just help families. I always donated thinking what if someday I need them and guess what I really needed them and they turned me down God will make justice.

Great doctors nurses and staff. God bless these people and caretakers. Praying for the ones that have need of these services and a cure will be released soon for the suffering.
Great Thyroid Cancer Care Dept and other preventative tests. Staff is amazing. It's like a puzzle, but once you go several times, you understand the lay of the land. Great place! I thank them for keeping me in remission.
January 2016 we were told that we had a good chance for a cure. On April 14, 2016 my husband of 38 years died. I tried for 3 weeks to get ANYBODY to LISTEN to me that something wasn't right...by the time I succeeded. ..he'd had multiple strokes. He had to stop treatment because of his altered mental status. I'm so disappointed in the care...or rather the lack of care by the hospital.
Over the last year md Anderson has gone down the drain. The Doctors and staff are non reliable, non compassionate and incompetent which can be a deadly combination.
This place deserves a minus five. Worst customer care we have ever experienced. We traveled a long way to come for the "best cancer care" in America. The patients here are treated like cattle. And then they changed the appointments for care out another week Without even consulting us. Absolutely horrific treatment. If you come here you may be one of the lucky ones. God help you if you are not.
Dr. Aaron Shafer did not disclose that I was a candidate for partial (supracervical) hysterectomy prior to my total hysterectomy. His response was "it wasn't 'that much more' surgery." The EXTRA surgery severed important nerves and ligaments. The end result is lifelong dysfunction and less pelvic organ support. Not to mention the emotional pain.
Disclosing all options is a BASIC tenet of surgery, yet it was withheld from me. The doctor just did things the way he wanted. When I complained to patient advocacy, they said I just needed to talk to the doctor again. Their job is to be intermediary, yet they don't do it. I have never felt so betrayed. And I will have to live with the repercussions for life.
Also, for every appointment, they ask for your medical record #, not your name. This should have been a red flag. Go somewhere you are treated as a person.
I took my wife there for 3 years. Every 6 weeks for 3 years. Put her on a plane from Indiana. She had glioblastoma. I knew it wasn't going to work but I wanted to take her to the best place. Every time Id get her down there, Id feel secure. id look up at night at the building way up high and read "The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.......and Id think, she's so small and this place is so big, they'll do something. I really knew, but that big bright sign and all the people with the lights still on in the all the windows everywhere...They were working on it.... She died after 4 years and 5 months of fighting it...and that was in January of 2014 and from time to time I still google MD Anderson and just look... Im glad I made her go down there. Id do it again.. They were great to her and were quick to see her and the bedside manner was EXCELLENT...from the Rotary House to Mays Clinic to the Brain and Spine Center on the 7th floor. Excellent. Every time I took my wife down there, I was thinking the same thing..maybe this time..this big place and this small nice lady.....
calling to the facility to ask questions is extremely difficult. The operator answering the call is confused and rude and not willing to help forward the phone call to the person who I have been in communication with. It made me feel angry during the stressful time.
MISDIAGNOSED mammogram on my annual physical. Had to retake and the second mammogram technician said that the first result came out wrong because they didn't pressed the breast in the right way. What's matter having cutting edge technology if staffs are not skilled? The stress and fear for the WRONG diagnostic is unforgettable. Secondly insurance only covers once a year mammogram. The result is a $500.00 bill that I have to pay for their mistake. Very unfair!!!! Phone contact is a nightmare! I hope never ever be at this place again.
We have had wonderful experiences and a few shockers. Our worst experiences were two failed and very poorly done PICC/Port/CVC placement, a very poorly done lumbar puncture, a poorly written MRI report resulting in a missed relapsed all dx, and a discharge from hospital while experiencing symptoms of an infection and neutropenia that led to sepsis, cellulitis and loss of tissue around the anus less than 24 hours later. Our 8 year old son was extremely ill and and could not walk for a week after the incorrect and very poorly done LP. THE CNS RBC count was OVER 22,000 (normal being 0). After the failed PICC/PORT/CVC attempts we were told blindly that he must have a tumor or some other blockage - you can't just tell people that (he doesn't, they just were not skilled at what they were doing). He suffered horrible headaches and throwing up for a month due to the MRI misreading, and of course the cellulitis and loss of anal tissue caused a month of intense pain and suffering and a 3 month delay in transplant. Our biggest complaint is that the outpatient procedures were done blind, we had no notification before who wad doing them, even if on the spot the person introduces themselves - you've never heard of them before, never met them, know nothing of their qualifications or history - it lead to poorly done procedures. We have never had a problem when one of our doctors or the lead surgeons have been scheduled for and done a procedure - they have been fantastic. But the outpatient surgery centers and on call proceduralist and staff have given us cause for concern on several occasions. A definite 5* to Dr Hays-Jordan, Dr Rytting, Dr Cox, the PACU nurses and daytime Pedi nurses, Dr Cortez, Dr Nunez, Dr Madden and many many others. ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT: 9AM-1PM in infusion therapy and Cardiopulmonary for wait times & waiting rooms.
Wife died during treatment at MD Anderson. Death certifcate was signed and dated by the staff at MD Anderson. I had no relationship with her insurance at all (i've always had my own). Continue to receive threatening letters from MD Anderson to her (she's been dead for more than a year) that if she doesn't pay, it's going to collections and then further, which is hilarious, because again she's dead. Screw this place, and the horse it road in on.
as a physician i have tried to refer patients to them bottom line : it seems this hospital is interested in their bottom line -money so my impression if you are poor and no insurance md anderson will not cure your cancer.
md anderson was not like this when i started my practice.
Been waiting FIVE MONTHS to get in to see my doctor. Currently out of my meds and my pharmacy just informed me they have been trying for over a week to get authorization from my doctor to refil my meds. This is not the first time I have had this issue either. I've made MULTIPLE ER trips and keep getting told to follow up with my doctor. I've left MULTIPLE messages with the nurse, scheduling, nutitionalist, and the patient advocate department. No one is returning my calls. For the amount of time and money I spend coming to this facility, you would think you would be treated a lot better. Very disappointed and will not be referring anyone to this disaster of a place.
The administration of this hospital is a nightmare. Other than that, the pathologist in my home state sent them 2 slides, which were also sent to Dana Farber. Dana Farber diagnosis was completely different from the report done in Alabama. So I wanted to get copy of the report from MD Anderson. I received a bill for $132 on January 11, so I knew (or thought) their pathologist had read my slides and that would be tie breaker.
I got a copy of Report today and MY SLIDES WERE NOT REVIEWED. I contacted pathology dot and they argu d with me even though it cl Arley states SLIDES NOT REVIEWED AT MDACC.
The Doctors meet you personally every time and work you into the system, even if you're over booked. The Nursing staff is fantastic, as well! I hope you never get cancer, but they are the #1 choice if you do.
Extremely disheartened by my experience. The scheduler informed me to plan to spend 3-5 business days there and I made the Neccessary travel arrangements. However, on the day of my appointment I waited 8 hours to see a doctor who only spoke with me for 15 minutes and no further follow-up was discussed. A waste of time and did not need the 3-5 days as discussed.
They have kept me alive for 5 years now. Head and Neck, and Lung cancer. Every day is a bonus now....futer updates still to come. The support staff, could do better. Bed side manners go a long ways. Even Dr's can lack such a important part of treatment. You have rights and there advocate team are wonderful. They can answer all your needs. Some times it felt like your a number, and they are often are overbooked. The commute is hard enough and there regional physilities could serve the community better. The lack of services at these location would help every one in cost and cummute. These regional physillities are mostly for radiation and chemo treatments. MD Anderson is a world class cancer research hospital, that's why there so busy. Cancer sucks no matter where you are. Be mindful that I'm able to make this review, and life is precious. Thank you for your help MD Anderson team. And my family and friends, you know who you are.
I'm just! Blessed to have been fortunate enough to be treated by the best Dr., and friend MD Anderson has to offer. And all the staff here is just wonderful. Thanks to all the knowledge that was focused on my care. Thank you all!
My family doctor is currently testing me for Cushions Syndrome. I am researching Doctor's who treat Cushions. A doctor at this facility is on the list. After reading some very negative reviews especially the one from the the Doctor who was referring his patients to this hospital, I will continue my research and hope this world famous hospitial turns its care around for the sake of these patients who deserve excellant care.
I see a recent reviewer that says MD Anderson no longer takes United Health Care. I just checked my plan, and MD Anderson in Houston is still in my United health care plan.
I am a current CLL Leukemia patient, and MD Anderson has saved my life. I was referred to MD Anderson by another nationally recognized cancer center.
MD Anderson seems to do a majority of Cancer trials, and are years ahead of others. Probably the biggest mistake is people wait until stage 4 before going to MD Anderson which is rated #1 in the nation. I have yet to run across anyone at MD Anderson is anything less than professional, and care about every patient.
I should not even give one. Because there is no possibility of giving it -5 ?. My father checked at this hospital hoping that they were the most prepared in cancer. It turned out that they give us the wonderful news that the results they gave us in Venezuela were false and very aggressive, instead they tell my father that this was something that would not end his life and that it was a Neuroendocrine tumor and not Adenocarcinoma in Duodenum as the doctors in Venezuela referred to us, this was in January 2014 ... on October 24, 2014 I was burying my father. It is incredible that the bills never stopped arriving and so that they would take care of him in emergency we always had to pay $ 50,000 or they did not take care of it. They are only interested in your money, not your health or survival. Do not deceive these people after they are wrong tell you that it became aggressive and leave you bleed health and your pocket BUDGET. without shame I do not wish anyone this, not my worst enemy, if there was an opportunity? They took it from my father. Never ask for help in that hospital because your life will be lost when you least realize it.
I've been with Dr. Keating, Alice, Coy, and Jackie (my Team) since day 1 nearly 6 years ago and I hit the lotto. They are diligent, competent, and compassionate. I'm blessed to have them on my team and blessed to be at MDA.
I WORKED AT THIS HOSPITAL IN 2016 FOR NEUROCIRUJANO SUJIT PRABHU AND HIS TEAM AND I DO NOT HAVE MORE THANKS TO THEM AND ALL THE STAFF WHO GREATLY SERVED ME WITH AN EXEMPLARY AND SHORT RECOVERY WITHOUT ANY SEQUENCE AT THE DATE THE UNCERTAINTY AND DOUBTS IN MY ONLY LASTING 2 WEEKS AND I COULD RETURN WITH MIVIDA LIKE IF NOTHING HAD HAPPENED, ONLY A BEAUTIFUL MEMORY OF THE ATTENTION THAT I RECEIVED NOT ONLY FROM THE HOSPITAL BUT OF ALL THE PEOPLE OF HUSTON THAT WE COULD TREAT, I HOPE TO BE ABLE TO RETURN FROM TOURIST SOME DAY TO THAT BEAUTIFUL CITY
We spent seven years enduring not only my husband s cancer diagnosis, but also the horrific lack of continuity and communication that is extremely prevalent at MD Anderson. And to add insult to injury, no one is held accountable for this ignorance. They all just talk about each other, you know as good cop, bad cop. Be very careful when approaching this facility for your cancer needs. Record every word spoken, because it will change minute to minute, with ZERO recollection from the source that spoke it. It s a scary place, so don t go in there alone, have a patient advocate with you, and a caregiver that will be your extra set of eyes and ears. There are many many stories like mine, and I promise you, protect yourself. They are a very poorly managed business with an incredibly broken system. Pay attention, because they aren t.
Heard many great things. O felt there enthusiasm over the phone Gave me hope, the small things are what gets them going. Can't wait for my husband's consultation. This is God's doing!
Good luck getting any information from them to assist your patients. Peaches in medical records is probably the rudest, most uncaring person that I have spoken to in my 20 year career!
The doctors here refused to see my husband after he got in infection from surgery it went inside of his vein and spread caused him to get severely sick he was hospitalized for 7 days his lucky to still be alive the closest hospital where we live didn't give up on him ... his been coming here for more then 20yrs plus btw.
My spouse is getting treatment for a relatively rare cancer, requiring inpatient chemo and surgery. While it took us a minute to learn how to navigate the large campus and institutional structures and processes, the care at MDA has been mostly great, despite our difficult situation. Specifically, the techs, nurses, NPs/PAs, social workers, and docs in our main clinics and the sarcoma med-onc floor have been mostly wonderful. When we've encountered problems or bad attitudes, they've usually been in support/adjunct/admin units like financial clearance. Some (but not all) of those problems are rooted in the country and state's messed up insurance/sickcare system. Overall, we're grateful for this important public institution and hope it continues to improve access to excellent cancer care.
I regret taking my father to the hospital and I truly regret telling my father to put his faith into this hospital. It was watching him be tortured and taken from us in 2 weeks and then to be told sorry would you like an autopsy to find out what killed him. I forever will blame them for my father's death.
The nurse Rodney, was extremely attentive to my grandmother and very willing to help. I did get frustrated with him in regards to things he couldn t control which I do apologize for. Rodney is the a great example as a nurse and represents MD Anderson in a wonderful light. Be safe everyone.
Been going to MD ANDERSON for 10 yrs. 2 time lung cancer suvivor[THANK GOD]. Last visit was March 2014. Was told to come back in 6mos spot on 1 lung needed to be checked. Dr Walsh, my doctor. After 3-4 weeks of non -stop calls to MD ANDERSON INS. dept. was told they no longer tak UNITED HEALTH CARE INS. Got a pre-approval from UNC. MD. ANDERSON would not accept. Was told I needed a thing called spot letter. No one @ UNC even knew what it was. Finally after nother 2 wks. Was told they would not do that. Its a check written in advance to MD Anderson before the appointment.[if i died the ins probably wouldnt pay}. I said to the ins. lady @ MD ANDERSON, I bet a lot of people die because of these ins. problems, she said, "unfortunely they do." . in a place where millions and millions are made. WOW Had a letter from my other doc.PCP saying it was causing a lot of stress and high blood pressure on me . needed this done soon...didnt matter.. But they run commericals where they do free things for people..Wonder how they really get paid/? Now im going to another doctor who knows nothing about my history, .I get to take all those test again. Lot a money in those tests, and lab . work.. Thanks MD ANDERSON for making my life so miserable, and scared . Might have a 3rd repeat. Only GOD knows. Greed Greed...This not to take away from the best doctor there ..DR. GARRETT WALSH..
Horrible establishment. First impression, TERRIBLE.
Let s start with registration: They failed to mention that Valet parking was available so now we have to pay for parking. Computer wasn t working in the registration office so we had to go to another location to finish registration. The place isn t wheelchair friendly at all btw.
Stem Cell Clinic: Waited FOREVER to be seen by the stem cell doctor. Vitals were never put into the system for the PA to observe. Waited FOREVER to be transferred to the ER. Get to the ER to wait even longer to be seen by anyone. Stem cell clinic never communicated anything to the ER regarding our arrival. No communication between staff at all.
ER: Finally in a room, took almost an hour for someone to come check on my husband (that s to include the nurse) and even longer for IV meds to get started for the level 9 pain he is currently having, still waiting on orders for scans. Some of the equipment in the room didn t work. Nurse failed to check on my husband and took FOREVER to finish preparing for the IV. The wrong information was written on the white board in our room. This place just doesn t seem to have their stuff together. The Dr. told my husband he would receive hydration fluids...an hour passes still nothing so we call the nurse and come to find out, the Dr didn t order fluids because there s a shortage on fluids? How does a Dr. write down exactly what my husband will receive but forget to put the order in? The nurse stated he would follow up with the doctor but disappeared again. Finally, the manager of the dept spoke to us, and it seems like things are coming together now. Other than that, no one has come to check on us and update us on anything. The doctor finally came back and was like oh I forgot about the fluids ...so unprofessional. Then she expected us to remember what time my husband received his pain meds via IV, when that s the nurses job to chart and brief the doctor on. This place is just completely out of order and unprofessional. I am very disappointed in this establishment. I work in an ER and this is the worst ER I have ever been to. The Dr. only saw my husband twice and the second time she had her personal belongings with her, complaining that she was ready to go home bc she was there for 15 hours. She even had the nerve to answer a personal phone call in front of us. Completely unprofessional.
For something so urgent such as this, I am very surprised at the lack of care we received here.
We flew all the way from Nashville to have a consultation at what I thought was supposed to be the best cancer treatment center in the country, but I was definitely wrong. After this awful ER visit, we are leaving this place and NEVER returning. Better off going to Vanderbilt.
Update: on Wed, Jan 10, discharging my husband took forever, getting prescriptions took hours, when we were finally discharge, there were ZERO wheelchairs accessible on the P level. When the nurse said he would grab one for us or call hospital transportation, he had us waiting for another 30 minutes until I decided to go down to the 1st floor to grab a wheel chair myself. I came back with the wheel chair and the nurse was just sitting on his computer (probably charting which I understand) but patient care involves going above and beyond patient s expectations and NO ONE at MD Anderson did that for us.
Update: Jan 12th, we are already admitted at Vanderbilt in Nashville, preparing for treatment, after only being here an hour. Vanderbilt is already working 10x faster than MD Anderson did. I wouldn t recommend MD Anderson if it was the last medical center on Earth. It didn t take hours to see a doctor and it didn t take hours for pharmacy to personally speak with us regarding treatment. This facility understands urgency.
My local cancer doctor said I had one year to live, that was in 2009. Said I may not live thru surgery. I'm still here. Went to MD Anderson and within half a day, they diagnosed my tumor and said to live a happy, healthy long life. No cutting on this ol boy. Great staff, great doctor and the service was the quickest I could have ever hoped for. Nothing but great things to say about this hospital and staff. Thank you to all whom cared for me, from the Blessed family from South Carolina.
Rated highly due to research NOT patient care. Treatment is just a paint by number approach - throw one medicine after another till something sticks. If nothing sticks you go to the poorly run research treatments - where they will just throw one after another research project at you.
Jaded doctors who stay to put up sad research projects of medicine combos that have been around for 30-40 years. Not sure how they get funding.
As soon as you check in, they annoy you with sad extra research treatments that are NOT needed, but will ONLY do if your covered by insurance. Nothing is free here. They make you believe you are doing them a favor by participating but they will only do if they can charge you. Sad.
Stay home folks, do yourself a favor and go to a local hospital. Memorial has just as good cancer program as any other hospital anywhere.
Experimenters left an owl monkey in a cage that went through a scalding-hot, high-pressure washer. A federal report noted that the monkey s body was so mutilated that it was impossible to determine an exact cause of death.
When it comes to cancer treatment it is the only place to go. A very friendly environment with the most willing and helpful staff you would ever want to encounter. Treatments were scheduled and always on time. Results was outstanding.
For those of you who are or have loved ones seeking treatment for cancer please read this. I gave 4 stars for only the doctors. For the rest I would had given 1 star. There are 2 faces of MD Anderson: the doctors and the support staff. The doctors are without doubt the top physicians in their field. I know this because they saved my mother's life. But there is another face or side to MD Anderson that will surprise you - the seemingly lackluster support staff. On the day of my mother's cancer surgery, the lab work on her blood specimen report was not received by her surgeon and forcing us and the doctor to contact those responsible to get the result. When the surgery was completed successfully, the staff moved her to her hospital room, they transferred her from the rolling bed she was transported in to the bed in her room. In doing so, they got the IV tubes/hoses tangled and caught which ripped it out of her arm - there was blood everywhere and she was in great pain. Thank God they got the bleed stopped. She had a ugly large bruise on her arms for nearly 2 months. But it did not end there: after she was allowed to come home I had to contact MD Anderson for questions regarding her medications and what we thought was a problem resulting from the surgery. I called the phone number for outpatient help we were given by the hospital staff and got a messaging service who paged a nurse or physician on call. After waiting an hour and no one called back, I called again and same result. I ended up having to call a relative who was a doctor for help. As for the call back from MD Anderson, someone did callback - over 12 hours (the next day) later. And this illustrates another problem in that there is no means to directly contact the doctor's office. Even when I call the main help number, they will connect me to the doctor's nurse phone but will not give the phone number for me to call directly. But every time my call is transferred to the nurse's office, no one picks up (not even once) and you go straight to voice mail which sometimes does not work - it hangs up after telling you to leave a message. Last, there is the ongoing problem with appointment scheduling in that EVERY scheduled appointment ended up having some changes due to mistakes or mix up. We have yet to have one single scheduled appointment that occurred without changes or me having to contact the physician's office to get things corrected before the date of appointment. Before cancer affected my family, I would never have imagined that the world class medical center at MD Anderson would have such a poor support staff. While grateful to the doctors who are truly the best, I am very disappointed with the rest at MD Anderson.
As a volunteer here, I can say that it is a great place. The different locations in the Main and Mays buildings are unique and make patients feel like home.
By far the best cancer treatment facility in the world!! The doctors put you on a specialized program that is best for your illness. After that, the nurses guide you thru it with open minds and giving and caring souls. I ve been coming here since April 2019 and I love it!! AAA+ facilities and employees!! Thank you for saving my life!
I have been a patient here since 2003. This is the best hospital in the world for cancer treatment. I was diagnosed when I was 25yrs old in San Antonio Texas and my hospitals did all they could for me. MD ANDERSON welcomed me with open arms . This place will make you and your loved ones feel at home.
I am truly disappointed! What I have seen could be considered patient abuse! People suffering from pancreatic cancer, like my brother, drives hundreds of miles to go the "The Best" cancer center in America, BULL! His scheduler has made so many mistakes that he has cause undo hardship to my family. NO ONE takes any ownership of the mistakes. I believe that when someone has cancer this is enough of a hardship and being abused by the system is wrong on so many levels. When he went to have CT scan they accessed his port, but did not clean the port as directed, 15 seconds is all it takes to clean it. The nurse just swiped and continued to access port despite being asked to clean it better. If he gets an infection from that you can be sure heads will roll! His quality of life just dropped a notch. Thanks for nothing MD Anderson.
My mom and dad and daughter in law have been going here for a very long time and all three of them or cancer free with God's help and the doctors at MdAnderson
It's been a long time since Mother came to MD Anderson from Alabama for treatment. Unfortunately at the young age of 44, she lost her battle with Breast Cancer about one year after leaving MDA, but I just wanted to brag on this facility a little bit because Mother received TOP NOTCH care and service while there. They were so caring and compassionate in my Mom's care, and they treated her AND US like family. People come from all over the world for treatment at MDA, what they do is truly impressive. THANK YOU to all who helped with my Mother's care.
Well so far the doctors at MD Anderson are friendly and good at their job however, my complain goes towards some of the staff and the nurses. I came across some rude nurses and when you are going through a hard time you really don t want some one to add more to that and just hope everyone is nice to and I find it really hard with MD Anderson nurses.
For how much they charge, you'd think you'll be getting more. Actually, the wait time is pretty long. Don't get me wrong, they do provide excellent treatment. They can use a bit of re-structuring to make things more efficient.
I don't doubt that MD Anderson has helped some cancer victims, but we had a terrible experience there. My sister was diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma. We had heard that MDA was a leader in advanced treatment options. We researched the hospital and called them and asked if they might be able to help. They strongly encouraged us to bring her to Houston for evaluation. They first instructed us to have all her records transferred, including biopsy specimens. When we got to MDA, we waited several hours to see the doctor. He discussed my sister's situation, but did no further testing. He told us he would consult with a panel at the hospital and make recommendations to my sister's local oncologist. He emphatically agreed to offer ongoing consultation, and stated that this would not require any further trips to Houston. Many weeks passed after our visit before the MDA doctor finally sent his recommendations. The local oncologist never heard back after the initial recommendations, so my sister's husband wrote several emails to the MDA doctor asking for further guidance. The doctor finally responded that he would have to see the patient before he could make any further recommendations.
The bottom line: MD Anderson encouraged a very sick person to make the journey to Houston, only to provide a consultation that could have been done on the phone, did no further testing, and failed to provide the promised ongoing guidance to the local oncologist.
Really dislike the non english speaking/ thick accents. I could not understand anything that is being said especially when it came to medical terms. The phone call took way too long and I feel that neither of us understood each other enough to get anything accomplished. I understand this is a great hospital but when the representative on the line get frustrated with the customer calling in because i can't hear past his thick accent, that's a problem for me.
The best hospital I have ever been treated from admitting, diagnosis, through surgery and release. I will always remember the friendly faces of everyone I met. EVERYONE!
THIS is the best place to be treated for glioblastoma brain cancer. Don't go with anyone else with less experience, less research, lesser equipment and resources. Trust me, time is of the essence when you're fighting grade 4 brain cancer. Caregivers, you will have much better support and access to education and resources too. MDA gave us time and hope other smaller hospitals could not. MDA has the largest Brain & Spine Institute in the US! And all the billing between departments is handled in house, under the MDA label. Which simplifies everything financially too. Make use of the Family Center, Patient Advocacy and free counseling from the Social Work department too.
Before they send requests for donations to cancer patients, any way they can check to see if they have passed? I believe it's public record. My late father received a request for a donation. He passed away nearly 2 years ago. This is insensitive and hurtful.
I have been going to MDANDERSON for bout 4 years. Then I was in a crisis without being able to get my Revlimid chemo medication for almost a month I had called my doctor Donna Weber for some support either by just talking to me about what can happen to me being off my meds that long, my cancer can be aggressive, I left several messages, but no call back EVER. I was in tears shaking scared mad I didn't know what to do and nobody called me I had to figure it out on my own. I thought Mda Anderson was a good hospital until I realized we are only numbers in their game and they don't care. And now I have found out if you are an individual with cancer and your not in a group insurance policy you cannot go to Md Anderson even if you live here in America that's a sad sad thing. Kiss My Ass MD ANDERSON! Thanks for nothing
I had the luxury of a nurse Practitioner Helen Monroe that was very rude and did not listen to the patient. Came in for a colonoscopy screening and talked more about the risks of the procedure than understanding my symptoms!. I have gone to various international hospitals and never been treated so insignificantly. There is no human touch to her approach. Unfortunately as part of the Shell program I have to use this service.
Broke my ankle at your hospital and you won't even return my call. Ive lost my career, home and my health because y'all won't take responsibility for your actions. Your supposed to help ppl not hurt them. Charitable my butt!!!!!! Thiefs!!!!!
I rushed in to Houston today from out of state under the pretense that I was having surgery soon. Got there half an hour early from my appointment with all my questionnaires filled out and ready then waited, waited waited. After an hour we check at the desk and the lady who had told us we were checked in, had not actually checked us in. So I get shuffled back to an office and wait for the surgeon to come talk to me. Once all 3 doctors are in there they ask me what brought me there and if I was having any immediate pains. I tell them my 3 week story of getting bounced around and all my tests so far, blah blah, typical stuff. Then I get told that surgery would be a month out at the earliest and that I could get back home for the time being. I call up my primary to let her know since she has half my paperwork and she says great then you can go back to work. And I'm like what?? No, I'm still dying right now. Then she says I need a doctors note. By this time I was back at the hotel and napping since sleep comes quick these days. So my husband takes my phone to message the hospital through the app (which is very helpful) asking my surgeons staff people to call him and they respond with a thanks for contacting us, your surgeon will contact you in a month to go over your concerns. Awesome, so we have no way to get the hospital to help us, nobody is filling out my FMLA paperwork so I may lose my job for no days, and I'm still dying. I wake up from my 5 hour afternoon "nap" that is more reminiscent of a coma and realize that I'm screwed all because we didn't go over my day to day issues since we thought I was just going to be prepped for surgery. I don't know if my symptoms are related or not to my tumor, I have a very rare tumor. But I was only asked about the immediate symptoms that lead to the appointments, not what was going on with ME. I'm VERY ready for surgery. But just because I don't have any sharp pains doesn't mean that I don't have concerning symptoms. When I wake from sleeping and I feel like I was laying on my brain cutting off the blood circulation and I have to stumble around to wake it back up, no I don't feel the pins and needles, but it's still pretty dang concering. It's not what brought me to the hospital and it's not "pain" but maybe it's related and we didn't even get to go over it. Hope I make it to surgery because nobody but me seems to care. It seemed they just wanted to push people through quickly, I was already under the impression that my surgery would be this week, even tomorrow possibly, but then they said it'd be a month from now then pushed me out the door.
After surgery on a patient, no one gives information to the patient's family. They say that after the surgery he is 5 more hours in recovery and they put the family from floor to floor asking for the patient and nobody gives an answer. That's too much.
