Extremely poor service and attitude by front desk ...

Extremely poor service and attitude by front desk and security personnel. We were having a wonderful McMenamins Passport weekend...stay at the Grand Lodge in Forest Grove, visited 5 bars the next day, stayed in Portland at another hotel, visited 3 more McMenamins bars and saw a movie at the Bagdad Theater Planned a 2 day stay at Edgefield to finish off our fun weekend. BIG MISTAKE! Arrived at 7:30 (after our busy McMenamins day), put bags in room and went directly to dinner at Power House Bar. Had an okay dinner at the bar because they were busy. Wanted to go to all of the bars to get our stamps. My husband smokes cigars and that is why we love McMenamins. Went to Jerry's Icehouse (advertised in their brochure as "cigars are offered along with distilled spirts..." Was told my husband couldn't smoke cigars there. Raining outside and no tables outside with cover. Told us to go to Little Red Shed to smoke cigars. Again, advertised in McMenamins print out at the hotel "...guests can now enjoy fine spirits and cigars in this cozy den, warmed by a brick fireplace." Only, were told we could not smoke cigars in the bar anymore. Had to be outside. Went to awning at hotel and my husband lit up a cigar (pouring rain). Security told us we couldn't smoke there (apparently there was a no smoking sign all the way at the other end of the porch). We happily moved out to an awning near an unlit firepit outside the Little Red Shed (so we were out of rain) and my husband continued to smoke cigar. We were quiet, no loud noises. Were there for 10 minutes when the same security guard rode up in her golf cart and told us the facility closed at 10 pm (it was 10:15) and we had to leave again. Explained we just wanted to let him finish his cigar and go to soaking pool. They made us leave, told us our only other option was to walk 1/2 mile or more to the top of the hill to the Distillery Bar where we could finish cigar (pouring rain). We were paying almost $400 to stay for 2 days, plus all the other money we were spending during our stay (visiting all the bars, touring the distillery, having a spa treatment, all of which cost extra money), and were being hounded by security for little reason, not harming anyone. My husband decided he wanted our money back and we'd go to another hotel for the night. Went to front desk to ask for refund, told them we were unhappy. Instead of making any attempt to make us happy, guy at desk said he could refund second night, but not that night since we had been there for 3 hours. Had to have approval from another manager. Asked him to call another manager and he refused. At this time, we were extremely upset and unfortunately used one bad word, at which time he told us he couldn't help us due to bad language and we'd have to wait til tomorrow since we were there 3 hours. Told him all we had done was drop luggage in room and asked him to come to room to observe as we were getting our bags. He told us he would have to check later , he was afraid for his safety to come with us. Completely unreasonable. We were unhappy guests, and not happy with his attitude, but in no way threatened him or anyone else. We finally just got our bags and left and hope we actually get a refund for that night. If not, we will definitely dispute with our credit card company and take up further with management at McMenamins. We love all the other McMenamins properties, but feel that they are very arrogant at Edgefields. They offer all these wonderful extras to enjoy your stay, but when you try to use them, you are turned away. We were completely harmless sitting in a grove of trees under an awning. Extremely unreasonable not to let guests enjoy the amenities of the hotel. We may come to Edgefileds again to get our Passport stamped, but will never stay there again. We have stayed several nights at all of the other hotels, and it is a shame that they have such poor management at this hotel. And could you tell we were unhappy? LOL.

I Love going over to the Edgefiled. I live in the neighborhood and go often. The community of folks who work there, are genuinely hospitiable, good natured and personable. I have always felt welcomed. The staff sets a relaxed and genuinely friendly atmosphere in order to unwind and relax and socialize. The food at the Black Rabbit is always excellent and the Power Station has great burgers. The fire pits are a great addition and the gardens are spectacular. I am so lucky to live so close !

The soaking pool at McMenamins Edgfield is so romantic and relaxing. Our favorite way to end the day of adventuring in Oregon, with a soak and a good drink before bed! The whole grounds are simply amazing. All the trees and shrubs are heavenly, especially if you time your visit while they are in bloom!

Stayed one night with my family as we were seeing the Leon Bridges concert. What a great experience. There's nothing better than walking 30 feet out the hotel door to the concert venue. Awesome selection of bars and restaurants all on site. Pool Hall staff were insanely busy and still took the time to make sure I got to watch the college football game I wanted before the concert started. Can't wait to come back.

The service and food were both fantastic at Black rabbit. Our waiter was very attentive, always checking in on us. We were at our table for two and a half hours and we were never rushed. The carolers wandering around to each table was a great touch two days before Christmas!

This place is amazing! Whether you are attending a concert, having a wedding, or just wanting a weekend away with the wife, this is the place for you. There are many things to do and see. The food and drink choices are numerous and delicious.

Edgefield is the perfect place to explore different bars and the hotel has all the interesting artwork that other McMenamins have. The pool is amazing. However, we ve tried to stay here several times. I don t know if it s the rooms but the rooms are really noisy and if you re staying close to the front, expect to get second hand smoke. I haven t had the same problems at other Mcmenamins hotels.

I have come to the understanding with mcmenamin s if I want great service, whether it be from the front desk, gift shop, or wait staff, to not expect it! And to be surprised and enjoy it when it does happen - which is few and far between. The atmosphere is exceptional, the rooms are always clean and unique, the brews and ciders are fabulous, that s why I keep coming back. My husband and I stayed at Edgefield and was reminded why it is one of least favorite venues- because of the service.

This is always one of my favorite places to take friends and family when they visit Oregon. The many buildings on site have been repurposed into what makes up a maze of hotel rooms, bars, artist studios, a golf course, distillery, brewery, vineyard, and spa. The art and landscaping are breathtaking. The summer concert lineups have something for everyone.

After a recent stay at McMenamins Kennedy School, Edgerfield just felt like the polar opposite. It was not relaxing at all. It felt very pretentious, busy, and crowded. The staff was unfriendly, in contrast to the Kennedy School where everyone was wonderful. There is also nothing else really out by Edgefield whereas the Kennedy School has tons of great things close by on Alberta. I would not recommend Edgefield. Save your time and money and check out Kennedy School instead.

I use to love this place. Great for events. Not so much as a place you go out on the weekends to.

Prices are way more then they should be these days. I mean $15 dollars for a drink? That's a little steep.

And the quality of the food and the drinks does not reflect the prices.

I use to love this place. But somehow, it just lost its way.

Been for everything from movies to tots to concert on the lawn. Always a beautiful place to visit. We've been once for a movie that had a technical issue and we got free food a double tickets for next time.

Great place for a good time. Food is always awesome at the power station. The environment is totally cool. It's like you're on a vacation far from home but your just outside the city. Beer is fantastic! The Ruby is the best know along side the terminator. They have an awesome down stairs game room with multiple pool tables, darts, shuffle board and pin ball. The spa is wonderful f what I hear. Haven't been myself. For just being minutes from the city, this is a must go to place. They also have a concert hall where they hold events. And a small golf course which is a par 3 I believe. I will definitely be coming back again and again!

My all time favorite McMenamins! That's says a lot because they have tons of great places. So many fun memories out here. Come early in the day so you can enjoy all this compound has to offer.

Very gorgeous and so much fun. But we must have had the worst room on the property. It wasn't very hot out and still we had zero air circulation and felt like we were sleeping in a sauna. I've never had this happen in any other McMenamins I've stayed at.

Edgefiled is great! There are a few different bars to choose from as well as the beautiful sprawling campus to explore. They only serve tator tots at the Power Station, know before you go!

It was OK, for the price. I've had good experiences here before, but service definitely suffers when it's busy. Our 5-person party was seated at a far-too-small table right next to a really loud larger group, and the staff and other guests kept bumping into me because I was basically seated in the way of the aisle.

Can't eat anything here (I have lots of food allergies, but they're also just terrible at those), can't park here (they and people parking ignore the lines, and parking is oddly laid out). Oh and super expensive.

We LOVE this place!! Everytime we go to OR to meet up with grandparents - this is our spot.
There is an awesome soak pool that twists and turns like a river (beautifully decorated).
The interior design is incredible w/ various paintings on the walls and hidden treasures of mischievous artwork to search around for.
The rooms are all uniquely decorated in a style that feels like you are staying in beautiful guest bedroom, rather than a hotel. There are also hostels to stay in for a cheaper alternative and a unique experience.
There is a gift shop that suits the needs of everyone (high quality items, and the kids love it as much as we do!)
The food is to die for, and their freshly brewed beer is unique, flavorful, and wonderful.
There are live concerts played there, and the soak pool closes for children at 8pm so the adults can soak while drinking their favorite beverages in the nice warm waters.
I have left a lot out, even in this detailed review, so go check it out for the full experience!

This is our favorite family meet spot, but my bestfriend and I want to go have a girl's weekend getaway. The prices would even fit a budget to be able to!

McMenamins Edgfireld is a beautiful place to hold events and visit. The architecture and artwork is interesting to look at for a wonderful experience. It's only unfortunate that the bathrooms are shared and not in our rooms.
