An excellent place to hold a gathering or event. Many different places to do things as the campus is just that, a campus. The buildings can be a bit labyrinthine but they are very fun to explore and get lost in. There is art all over literally everything and sometimes you stumble into a bar or restaurant that has it's own charm and character. The campus is just beautiful inside and out and there's a whole lot to do.

Definitely a must-see place. The restaurants have great food. If you're a Beer Drinker you'll love it here same with wine. And if you like little Executive 9-hole Golf Course definitely definitely make a reservation. Soaking pools are good hotel if you want to stay. Also great concert venue

LODGING: Nice rooms in a variety of buildings with comfortable bedding and adequate towel & robe thicknesses. Online reservation system shows pics and prices & bed sizes. There's also Women's & Men's hostel-type lodging (bunk-beds) for single travelers on a budget for almost $40 after taxes (at least as of September 2018). Only a few rooms offer their own toilet inside the room, otherwise expect communal bathroom areas, but no worries about cleanliness or a wait.

If you don't like hot weather and you love your air conditioning, then you do not want to stay in the hotel rooms during the summer heat, because they only offer you box fans and cold drinks to ward off the heat. However, many of the public areas (restaurants & theatre, for example) have air conditioning.

FOOD: 3-4 different restaurants on site. Black Rabbit restaurant for upscale dining & the attached Black Rabbit Bar for immediate seating without hostess needed and lighter menu (bring your WiFi enabled device!) And the Power Station pub for basic bar food (mostly salads, burgers, deep fried), which, incidentally, has a small low-cost movie theatre you can eat & drink in while you watch! There is also Lucky's pizza bar in basement of main lodge-house. I've never had it, but I hear it's good but a bit expensive.

If you lodge here, you have the option to get your breakfast order brought to your room (limited menu options, but at least each room has table & chairs and drink glasses, some have couches with coffee tables too if you're in a big enough room.) Though breakfast is less money and there are a lot more options for breakfast foods in the Black Rabbit restaurant in main lodge if you go there and sit down. I highly recommend the black rabbit restaurant if you like quality food and wines!1

If you like coffee, bring your Thermos! They roast their own coffee; it is wonderfully flavorful and is so low in acidity that I can drink it black, rather than dump creamer into the bottom 20% of the cup first. They sell it in their gift shop too if you want to take some home.

Locally grown and many onsite grown herbs, fruits and vegetables, in house cooked buns and breads at all restaurants on site.

ALCOHOL & ENTERTAINMENT: Several bars and places to drink on campus with varying hours and themes, including a couple tiny ones you can smoke cigars in (The red shed & their distillery). You'll find maps scattered throughout the lobbies to help find all the different nooks and crannies, bars, shops, distillery, banquet rooms.

There's a billiards room with 2 shuffle boards, and 2 or 3 regulation sized tables (plus maybe 1 snooker table?) With beads in a wire above to keep score, (like at the Olympic Club McMenamins location in Centralia Washington.)

Almost every time I come to the McMenamins Edgefield campus I find people that have come to stay there from all over the world and they sound like they really enjoy their stay and the experience.

There are also several free concerts on the lawn in summer, as well as concerts that are also sold out concerts with well-known musicians throughout the year here. There is a 3 par golf course that is quite challenging and fun. I think it is 18 holes.

So much more here that I'm sure I've not included, despite the extreme length of this review. (Like the winery with live music every week, the day spa & salon and the warm soaking pool!?) You just have to come and check it out!

If I could give it four and a half Stars I would but only because some of the rooms, drinks, activities, restaurant foods, and wine prices keep going up.

Edgefield is amazing for the price. The soaking pools are a must, and walking around the gardens the morning after was lovely, too. The Grill was a trifle dull for teetotallers like my husband and I, but the Black Rabbit has a lovely breakfast menu and is considerate of those with food sensitivities. All around good service at a good price. I've recommended the Edgefield to visiting family and friends. There's even public transit right outside! Love it.

McMenamins is always a destination for out of towners. I rarely made trips out before they added the passport though. It was great timing on their part as service was getting bad, and the food was rarely changed. I can say, my experiences as of late have been far improved.

Came here for a friend's bachelorette party. The food was the usual McMenamins fare (which is good pub food), and we loved Ruby's Spa! The soaking pool was awesome and spa services were great. There are so many fun little gardens to explore around the grounds! The concerts are always fun too.

Great hotel, lots of charm and history. I booked for 4 nights but really started to miss my normal amenities after the second night, I also got really annoyed that everytime I went to my room, the room key didn't work. I ended up at a large known hotel on my last night in town. I needed soft pillows and in room shower at that point. The ribeye at the black rabbit restaurant was amazing and ciders were also great. Fun place to stay short term.

Mcmenamins Edgefield is my newest favorite place and I plan to return often. It's not only beautiful, but full of all the things you can't help, but love. History, art, gardens, golf, awesome events and concerts.
The rooms are gorgeous and spacious and you can't beat the service.
It's a large space that gives you the relaxed quiet feeling of peaceful intimacy with all the little pubs and restaurants.

Always like the vibe of this place. enjoyed staying here as well. Some colleagues were not as fond since deemed it "too institutional... maybe gave them flashbacks to darker time periods for them??? ;-) I like the range of food, crafts, beer, cider and coolness.

This is one of my favorite McMenamins properties. It's very popular, so sometimes it's hard tongind parking.

They have a whole complex here. You can walk around, find the restaurant that interests you. The grounds are beautiful.

There are several restaurants, a movie theater, and tasting rooms. The hotel is so amazing as well.

The food is great, and while it is a little on the expensive side, they give you pretty big portions.

I would have given it 5 stars but the place is just too touristy. The food was good the whiskey even better. The services were poor but if you found the right mixologist it made up for it. If you do go plan on visiting during the week when it's not so busy.

Fun

Had happy hour drinks and dinner at the Power Station with a group of 6. Service was fast, food was good. Birds were a little aggressive on the patio and part of our order was given to another table.

Another win for McM's. There was a great bluegrass band playing a free show, their Off-the-Vine IPA was a nice change from my regular pint of Sunflower, and the Terminator chocolate cake disappeared before the plate hit the table. Thanks again guys!

Edgefield is by far my favorite place to hangout. Being one of the most unique of the many McMenamins properties, there is amply territy to explore and plenty of places to grab a drink and food. This is absolutely a place to check out and spend a day.

Went to see a movie here. You can get to the theater early and order food from the restaurant mwnu at you theater seat. The service was good. The screen is smaller than most theaters, but so is the seating, so there were no bad seats. The chairs are comfortable. I would go again.

We went for dinner but showed up early with to putz around the buildings and gift shop. The food was phenomenal (and was as delicious as it was expensive!). Service seemed stressed, but it was Christmas so that makes sense. If you like bacon or barbecue, I highly recommend the pork chop. Quite a bit of food and it was literally the best pork I've ever had.

The grounds are amazing. This is both a hotel, restaurant, bar, winery, cigar bar, etc... It is a great destination get away that should be experienced over multiple days. Enjoy your travels here.

I absolutely love this place. It's great for dates or to meet up with friends for drinks. There is a good variety of bars on the grounds and they are all unique and staffed with amazing people. I recommend this site and the Kennedy school in Portland. Cheers
