This place is really big. Like you can get lost easily. I ve been to several meetings here. The signage is not helpful and the Starbucks line takes forever. The meeting rooms are clean and comfortable though. Don t try to go to a meeting here and stay on Michigan Avenue... too difficult to get around. Make sure you stay at Hyatt or Marriott so you can walk there... the taxi line is intense.

Parking lot A is good but don't ever go to parking lot B is the crapiest parking lot in the history of parking lots, with a little snow you'll need a jeep to get out of the potholes inside of the craters that they call potholes at McCormick considering that the city considers it self a great city this parking lot says otherwise. An eyesore in Chicago's reputation the way I see it. They should have a sign that keeps the foreigners from seeing the foulness that parking lot B is.

I can do a better job at training security on how to properly check bags. A quick peep inside my bag and I get the okay to walk in. I never feel safe at this place. Second star goes to the Auto Show, for coming to Chicago every year, despite the crime.

Absolutely massive venue for conferences and trade shows. I was here for IRCE / RetailX and the venue was clean and professional, and the staff was super helpful for everything from booth setup to giving general directions. The surrounding area has a lot of great places to meet with people and getaways for quiet chats or meals. Can't wait to go back!

I would leave zero stars if I could. The hair show was great and so were the vendors but the staff for the McCormick place were rude. The security guard checking us in yelled in our faces and the disrespect was humiliating

I have been to many meetings at McCormick Place and it improves with age, which is not the norm for most convention centers. The spaces are warmer and more inviting now than in the past. Like all huge centers, it's a hike to get from the shuttle buses to the meeting areas, but in general, they make it as easy as possible. The proximity to the Hyatt really helps with more casual meetings, and they've added enough food and beverage options that this is a much better venue than it used to be. Wear comfortable shoes!

The place was absolutely beautiful. One of the best conferences I have attended. The place was very clean. All the staff here were very friendly and very accommodating. The rooms were all equipped and had appropriate viewing of the screens. When a room was full the staff immediately brought in extra so others didn't have to stand. The food was awesome!!! They had several bathrooms without having to walk a mile to get to one.

I've always like attending conventions here. The facilities and staff have always been top notch, plus there is the added benefit of being right in downtown as cpared to going out to the airport. Words of advise: know what building you need to go to because it can be confusing with various entrances. Also, food on site costs an arm and a leg. There are plenty of nearby restaurants to avoid the cafeteria.

A great place to be bummed out by lazy teamsters. These guys will jump at the chance to tell you what you cannot do but aren't so quick to lend assistance. Bizarre to watch the cleaning staff intentionally walk by leaving dirty tables when cleaning the floors...because they ONLY clean the floors.

Had a great time at the auto show went during the week no lines got up and close to every car and truck there did every test drive and simulator, rope net walk with no more than a five minute wait. Parking was easy and with shuttle buses running we didn't have to wait in the cold very long.

Always a fun place to go for the Chicago auto show, absolutely massive place with a bunch of good food. The parking for this location can be a bit of process depending on the even so make sure you leave yourself with some time to find good parking if you're unfamiliar with the location.

I was at McCormick Place for the autoshow and the facilities were wonderful. Its modern and clean with massive space for expos and events. The parking is also relatively easy to access and getting to the main building is no problem in the winter with the walking bridge.

Beautiful building. I attended a business conference there and it was a great venue. Only downside is it's a little far away from downtown but I think that helped keep everyone around the area and from venturing off as well.

Went for the auto show. The event staff were helpful. The food vendor that had nachos were a joke. Couldn't hardly be bothered to serve you and then they have crumbs. Avoid at all costs, total rip. The Fudge folks that had ice cream were brilliant. 5 stars to them. Over all a really great experience, just skip nacho booth.

Went for the Auto Show. Found parking at a near by hotel. Was able to walk to the show and back to the car all indoors. Show was a bit of a bust this year but McCormick place is always ready to go and organized. And the staff was helpful in directing us to where we needed to go.

Was there for the boat show. Big clean place. Seemed like a few of the bathrooms were unavailable because the show was small and the areas were sectioned off. Lots of indoor parking but be prepared to walk

About McCormick Place Rooftop Garden

McCormick Place Rooftop Garden: A Green Oasis in the Heart of Chicago

McCormick Place is a name that resonates with anyone who has ever attended a convention or trade show in Chicago. As the largest and most flexible use convention center in North America, McCormick Place has hosted countless events over the years, from political conventions to auto shows to medical conferences. But what many people don't know is that McCormick Place is also home to one of the city's best-kept secrets: a stunning rooftop garden that offers visitors a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of downtown.

The McCormick Place Rooftop Garden was created as part of an ambitious sustainability initiative launched by the convention center in 2007. The goal was to transform McCormick Place into a model for sustainable urban development, and one of the key components of this effort was the creation of an expansive green roof on top of one of its buildings.

Today, the McCormick Place Rooftop Garden covers more than 2.5 acres and features over 20,000 plants representing more than 100 species native to Illinois. The garden is divided into several distinct areas, each with its own unique character and purpose.

One section features raised beds filled with vegetables and herbs that are used by chefs at McCormick Place's restaurants. Another area showcases native prairie grasses and wildflowers, providing habitat for birds and insects while also helping to manage stormwater runoff.

Visitors can stroll along winding paths through lush gardens filled with colorful blooms or relax on benches overlooking Lake Michigan while taking in stunning views of downtown Chicago's skyline. Interpretive signs throughout the garden provide information about sustainable landscaping practices as well as details about specific plant species.

But perhaps what makes the McCormick Place Rooftop Garden truly special is its role as a living laboratory for sustainable design practices. The garden serves as a testing ground for new technologies such as green roofs, rain gardens, permeable pavement systems, and other innovative approaches to managing stormwater runoff.

In addition to providing an oasis for visitors seeking respite from city life, this green roof also helps reduce energy consumption within McCormick place by insulating against heat loss during winter months while reducing cooling costs during summer months through evapotranspiration processes which cools down surrounding air temperatures naturally without using any energy-intensive equipment like air conditioners or fans.

The rooftop garden has received numerous awards since it opened in 2008 including recognition from Green Roofs For Healthy Cities (GRHC) which named it "Green Roof Project Of The Year" award winner at their annual conference held in Boston back then; it has been featured on national television programs such as PBS' "Growing A Greener World" series; it even made headlines when former President Barack Obama visited during his time at office!

In conclusion,

The McCormick place rooftop garden stands out not only because it provides visitors with breathtaking views but also because it serves as an example for how cities can incorporate sustainable design practices into their infrastructure projects without sacrificing aesthetics or functionality.
It’s no wonder why this hidden gem continues attracting tourists worldwide who want nothing but peace amidst nature’s beauty!
