This year I attended ISTE18 in Chicago, stayed downtown (who wouldn t), but was quite surprised to find that the convention center was not located closer to the elevated rail... there were 24,000 attendees at the conference

Certainly, I don t mind walking 2 blocks, I m just saying that I was surprised that a giant convention center would not have better transportation DIRECTLY to the site Of course you can take a bus or shuttle or Uber up a ride, but that just requires so much additional cost or environmental impact rather than using fantastic public transportation like the L

In addition, the expo hall was choppy , there s a giant elevated section that placed many vendors in odd places. In fact, while chatting with some of the vendors, they were disappointed in the lack of foot traffic because of the layout of the expo hall.

i've been to a few conferences here - i really don't care for this convention center - inconvenient location, extremely spread out which requires walking long distances to get between meetings. there's really no restaurants except fast food in the neighborhood so you're stuck with convention food. the thing that really kills me is that there are only two locations in the center that sell coffee and they're never adequately staffed which leads to ridiculously long lines

This convention center is absolutely huge! To be very frank in my comments it s not very well marked it s not easy to understand which doors take you to which rooms. It seems like they should have an app just to navigate this building.

Great venue! Was there for the national resturant association show.
Parking is not well planned. Hey city we need to be more friendly, or we will lose another show (with all those jobs) to Vegas. Who's dumb idea was it to hold the new mayors swearing in across the street from McCormick place during the show.

Boat show should be for free, not 15 dollars each ticket! 4 tickets are 60 dollars!
I was running around all the show area scanning qr codes wishing to win a boat bag. I collected 15 , and when the show was gonna closing I asked stuff to give me a prize. They told me something that I couldn't get because my English is a little poor. So they gave me just cup holder!!! It costed 3 scanes, not 15!!!
Gosh! I WAS SUCH DISAPPOINTED! MY FEET WERE HURT BECAUSE I WAS RUNNING AROUND ALL THE AREA LOOKING FOR QR!!!
I will never come there again!

The truth expected more. The super dirty bathrooms are almost maintenance free during the event. The food court could have a little more variety and the tellers give poor service. The Internet is cut in some price sectors. It has good accessibility from the center via buses.

Building was huge and cool, the 2020 Autoshow was just okay, and the souvenirs were lame, poor design, looked like kindergarten scribbles... Detroit's North American International Auto Show (N.A.I.A.S) normally has at least twice as many automakers and cars on display. Disappointed I came all the way here from the middle of Michigan.

About McCormick Place Rooftop Garden

McCormick Place Rooftop Garden: A Green Oasis in the Heart of Chicago

McCormick Place is a name that resonates with anyone who has ever attended a convention or trade show in Chicago. As the largest and most flexible use convention center in North America, McCormick Place has hosted countless events over the years, from political conventions to auto shows to medical conferences. But what many people don't know is that McCormick Place is also home to one of the city's best-kept secrets: a stunning rooftop garden that offers visitors a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of downtown.

The McCormick Place Rooftop Garden was created as part of an ambitious sustainability initiative launched by the convention center in 2007. The goal was to transform McCormick Place into a model for sustainable urban development, and one of the key components of this effort was the creation of an expansive green roof on top of one of its buildings.

Today, the McCormick Place Rooftop Garden covers more than 2.5 acres and features over 20,000 plants representing more than 100 species native to Illinois. The garden is divided into several distinct areas, each with its own unique character and purpose.

One section features raised beds filled with vegetables and herbs that are used by chefs at McCormick Place's restaurants. Another area showcases native prairie grasses and wildflowers, providing habitat for birds and insects while also helping to manage stormwater runoff.

Visitors can stroll along winding paths through lush gardens filled with colorful blooms or relax on benches overlooking Lake Michigan while taking in stunning views of downtown Chicago's skyline. Interpretive signs throughout the garden provide information about sustainable landscaping practices as well as details about specific plant species.

But perhaps what makes the McCormick Place Rooftop Garden truly special is its role as a living laboratory for sustainable design practices. The garden serves as a testing ground for new technologies such as green roofs, rain gardens, permeable pavement systems, and other innovative approaches to managing stormwater runoff.

In addition to providing an oasis for visitors seeking respite from city life, this green roof also helps reduce energy consumption within McCormick place by insulating against heat loss during winter months while reducing cooling costs during summer months through evapotranspiration processes which cools down surrounding air temperatures naturally without using any energy-intensive equipment like air conditioners or fans.

The rooftop garden has received numerous awards since it opened in 2008 including recognition from Green Roofs For Healthy Cities (GRHC) which named it "Green Roof Project Of The Year" award winner at their annual conference held in Boston back then; it has been featured on national television programs such as PBS' "Growing A Greener World" series; it even made headlines when former President Barack Obama visited during his time at office!

In conclusion,

The McCormick place rooftop garden stands out not only because it provides visitors with breathtaking views but also because it serves as an example for how cities can incorporate sustainable design practices into their infrastructure projects without sacrificing aesthetics or functionality.
It’s no wonder why this hidden gem continues attracting tourists worldwide who want nothing but peace amidst nature’s beauty!
