They don't stop calling me even whit the number block and they still leave a voice mail

They tried collecting for Time Warning Cable after I disconnected service due to repeated improper billing.

Informed them (McCarthy Burgess & Wolff) that I was disputing the debt -- which I did in writing. Supplied evidence. Got no written response. Finally, called them directly and the lady assigned to my case argued with me for 15 minutes on the phone saying my evidence wasn't good enough for her. I told her that she is neither a lawyer (she wasnt one, i asked), nor a judge and she really didn't have authority to decide what evidence was good enough. She said collections activity would continue despite my dispute (which is unlawful without a court order in NYS). Had to call back and talk to her supervisor to get the collections activity halted (which took like 2 minutes, as the supervisor *seemed* to know the law AND know they were in the wrong).

Seems like these guys fly pretty fast and loose with the law; which given what they do, make them a genuinely terrible organization.

Worst service ever! An account that I had past due went to them supposedly and I made an arrangement with them to pay. I called before my due date to pay and I was told they would call me back because my account was reflecting another amount. More then a month later and they still haven t called back! I would call and no answer, I would leave voicemails and nothing! That s so unprofessional! How can they avoid me after they would call me almost everyday to pay!

Believe this to be a total scam and wish I hadn't called back and gave my name. They have called me repeatedly then they say my name is not attached to the account and must have a wrong number. I've seen other reviews of the same. I suggest do not answer and do not give them personal info.

These guys sent me a letter, I promptly paid online, and got a receipt. The next day I got a receipt for a refund from them for some reason. Now they are calling me daily to make a payment. I am worried - seems like they have pulled this same scam with others - not sure if they are going to charge late fees or something. Why would Excel Energy use such a despicable organization? Perhaps it is time to go solar?

They called to ask for a PECO debt very un-polite and had no information about the bill, asked for $10 extra if I wanted to pay by card or mail a check, became extremely un-polite after I told him that you guys have the worse reviews ever and he hang up

They said I owed money for a subscription to the Ft Worth Star Telegram. I called the newspaper who confirmed that I did not have any outstanding balance. When I called the collection company they gave me the spill of we wouldn't make this up we are a reputable company, look us up online. Then she said she would remove it and send it back to the creditor. These people are scam artists.

This company is complete crap. They call my google voice number every day looking for someone named Bernard, i have told them at least 10 times they have the wrong number, and to take me off the list. They dont care and just keep calling every day. I have blocked too many of their of their phone numbers to count.

I work in banking for a living. One of the number one things anyone in my industry will tell you is to NEVER, EVER give out your account and routing number over the phone. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES!!! No legitimate business will ask you for this information.

I was sent a letter stating that I owed a debt to an old phone company from this place. I called to question the situation, and was pushed to give out my banking information. When I refused and asked why they even requested that info, the woman I spoke with had no legitimate answers that made any sense.

Please, to anyone reading this, if you owe a debt to ANYONE and these guys call you, contact the originating company first.

They contacted my parents by mail and phone demanding a payment and we didn't know what it was for and they called but no one spoke Spanish so then they asked for social security and all kinds of personal info and didn't want to tell us where the charge is from. Basically they are scammers

Very unprofessional and rude. Called my workplace, I informed them not to call the workplace, and call me back on cell phone or send me amount owed via bill or email. Obnoxious female persisted and refused to hang up, at one time stating/yelling "are you refusing to pay?" No i was not, I simply could not talk while at work. Shlock operations like this is why you see all of the new collection regulations.

We were mistakenly sent to collections by a company we had PAID and they didn't post the payment correctly. The company has tried for over a year and a half to stop MB&W from contacting us for payment. I finally conference the company and the collections agency on the same call. MB&W said they work on a "funnel" basis. I don't know what that means, it flows down and not up? But that they only take direction from 1 person, ignore everyone else even though the are getting direction from someone that they essentially WORK FOR.

I own a very small business and due to loss in business somehow my equipment purchasing contract went under this collection agency.
Agent Jim called talked to me very rudely & in a threatening attitude asking for payment of thousands of dollars right away and argued upon how much money we carry in our account. Made me do my first payment over the phone with $ 10 extra charge for processing. I see my account i found there is $20 extra charged Lol I called back.. He apologised , refunded my 10 dollars ... Then we setup our agreement of paying them certain amount every month. After paying them 5 months successfully one time they didn't get payment for August by mail until 31st august 2016. I posted check by mail for sure and they didnt get mail delivered yet they said. &(who knows they did or didnt) so again Jim (on recorded line) said if I don't pay them today they are gonna do this and that and bunch of B. S. so later that day I paid them over the phone with terrible $10 check processing fees again B. S. But I paid them anyways. I asked them if they find my mail they can keep my check for next month payment ? but don't process until I call you guys .. He said they can't hold on to the check he also told me I just hv to send another one later. So I said Okay.
3 days later I check my account and I see my check is cleared with 5 dollars transfer fee. I was so upset. I called him right away same day asking for why did he do it and I asked to refund my money as it wasn't in my agreement to pay twice ... However his answer was his manager has to go thru the "recorded call" to take any dicision. LOL they hv to go thru my call to refund my money which they didn't do yet bcz they can't locate my '' recorded call ". Ttomorrow it will be one week without any solution. I planned to use that money towards other expenses of my business and I failed because of their mistake. As first 10 days of the month are so crucial bcz of so many payments are scheduled in those days. Jim washes his hands saying its upto his manager to sort this out. Manager too busy to do this. Recorded lines prob don't work so they don't hv anything to listen to or may be they say it bcz they don't want to accept their mistake.
I don't hate collection agencies as some of them are really helpful but this agency throws fits to get money... It threatens you.. Not willing to cooperate.. And make mistakes without calling themselves accountable.

Left a message with a matter number. After 15 minutes on the phone, they realized they had a "wrong number". I'd never heard of the person they referenced. Scammers who have no idea what they are doing. Reported to the do not call registry as well.

A homeadvisor-scamadvisor want to be collection agency. I asked them to confirm with there client and re contact me in 24 hrs. No, sir we will not do that. I openly said to them that I did not owe and we canceled and they refunded me.you can not come back for refunded money.

This is a scam. I am 100% aware of all my bill//debts. They call me at the crack of dawn to "discuss my account," as if I'll be intimidated into calling them back somehow. The name alone is wild. They are pretending to be something they are not. Don't fall for it.

Similar to what many people below have discussed, I've received countless calls on my cell phone - almost daily - for the past few weeks from this company. They are looking for another individual and I've let them know many times that this is not her phone number. Each time they say I will be "removed from the call listing" or that their records show that they've never called this number before. I see now through these reviews that this must be some kind of scam, but can understand how if they called looking for me claiming to be a bankruptcy collection agency I might be fooled. Even if you believe the information they've provided you is correct I would suggest contacting the source of collections to ensure this is legitimate. Going forward I plan to block their phone number.

I don t think this is a scam. It is a collections agency. I was contacted by them from Nicor Gas. I had an outstanding bill which I really did.

I asked for something in writing before I paid them anything they claimed I owed NTELOS. The man said I could speak to a manager. I said I don't know you are who you are. The man calling me SUGGESTED I look them up online. When I did and started reading these reviews, he RAISED HIS VOICE and started telling me, "You know what? YOU KNOW WHAT? EVERYBODY HAS SOMETHING BAD TO SAY SAY ABOUT EVERYTHING AND YOU SHOULD JUST PAY YOUR DEBT!" I said "please remove me from your calling list, goodbye." And I hung up! SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!

THEY ARE CALLING MY CELL PHONE AND HOUSE NUMBERS WANTING MONEY, TO SETTLE AN OLD DEBT. BLOCK THEIR NUMBER. IF SOMEONE NEEDS MONEY FROM YOU, THEY WOULD PUT IT IN WRITING!

I got a call from someone names Jessica . She told me I have a outstanding bill with Verizon Wireless I told her I do not even have them as a cell provider and she was fighting with me on the phone telling me she has a signed contract. They would not give me any info . I called back the next day and talked with Jason who told me he would send out the letters that have been sent to me and here it is a week later and still nothing . Come to find out someone has opened account using my SS number but they would not give me any info. This place is crap and they do not care if it is not you they want you to just pay .

This company keeps emailing me attachments with no explanation. I wrote to them and told them I thought they had the wrong person and they replied with no message but another attachment. I m not opening their spam and they are definitely not a company I have ever spoke to or done business with.

Doesn t even deserve a star. I keep getting calls from spam risk & there is never a voicemail left from Gina Jolly. I have a collection of over five grand and I have offered a settlement of $800 paid in full and never got a response back from her. I got another letter Saying my debt is still there and that they have tried multiple times to reach me and have been unresponsive however they are the ones who do not answer or do not leave a voicemail. Thanks for nothing.

Got a call from this group and upon asking fo a copy of the complaint they had he told me he was not sending me anything.Anyone who they claim owes a bill has the right to get an itemized bill showing what they are trying to collect. The man named Robert is the one who said he was not sending me anything and put me on phone with a supervisor named James .When I started to tell him I wanted a copy of the complaint against me he hung up.

Do NOT pay them, SCAMMERS. Call the company they claim they're collecting for first. They called me today about a delinquent utility bill, with vague info. So I called my utility co. and was told there was no such claim, and made a scam report. I was told to make a police report too. It's a SCAM.

ADP did not file their paperwork correctly so these sterling individuals believe we will pay them thousands for ADPS mistake. Great bluff. Hope they all are appropriately rewarded for what looks really bad.

SCAMMERS & LIARS! Sent me an email stating "....as per our discussion..." I've never talked to these people, never even heard of them. They are claiming the company I work for owes over $1000 for a nonexistent Time Warner acct. They had the physical address incorrect, my name incorrect. Not to mention Time Warner is no longer Time Warner but is now Spectrum and has been for months. They also had the Time Warner name incorrect.

They MUST be scam artists: I have received repeated phone calls for the last few weeks on my home phone. I do not use my phone or give the # out - it just came with my tv pkg - and I know I'm up to date on my bills. I finally got sick of the calls and called them, and gave them the reference # I'm told to give when I call. The first person said this "wasn't his department - and he couldn't access the account" and transferred me. The 2nd person wanted my phone number. I said - you called me you have it. I have the reference number you told me to give you - that's all you should need. He insisted on me giving my phone number to him and wouldn't even take the reference number. I told him I guessed i would just keep ignoring the phone messages then and he promptly just hung up on me.

Debt scammers. Do not answer and do not give them any personal info. They call not even knowing who they are calling hoping they can scare you into paying a random debt.

I - like other reviewers - had been getting continued harassing calls from McCarthy, Burgess & Wolff stating that I had a balance of $370 for our gas provider. I called our provider and had $0 balance and everything had been cleaned up in our account for 18 months straight.

I am on the phone with these guys right now and they don't know anything. They move accounts to different people and it's just a joke. These guys can't do anything to you anyway.

DO NOT PAY THEM DIRECTLY. CONTACT DEBITOR AND VERIFY DEBT AND ASK TO PAY DEBIT DIRECTLY TO THEM. You may not actually owe the debt they claim or the debitor has never contracted with them to collect payment. This organization is total scam and agents are aggressive, unknowledgable, rude, and idiotic. They are based in OH but will use local phone numbers to stalk you.

Although I am not discrediting any others' comments or experiences here, just wanted to say that after having a debt accumulate for quite some time with a credit card company, I was eventually sent a letter from McC B&W. Like everyone else I had my doubts so eventually I called my credit card company. Upon entering my account information, my call was immediately redirected to McC B&W. I eventually settled the debt and although their website has a payment portal, when I called to inquire about paying online I was told they did not have this option, nor could I pay with a debit card. That did raise an eyebrow, but fortunately I had sufficient funds to pay the entire settlement amount. So of course I had to give them my banking and routing numbers. The only other option I had according to a letter previously received was to mail a check, which was already too late. After speaking to them, however,they did offer to extend the due date. So although I do believe many of you may have had strange experiences with this company, mine was legit since I did owe the CC company and my call was redirected right from the CC company. Hope this clears up any doubts for anyone. Of course I will have to see what happens once all this is over and I have a receipt.

This company is not a scammer. They're a legitimate debt collector. They were very helpful and accommodating in helping me pay off my debt, and understood that the original creditor was a complete nightmare that didn't communicate properly with me. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because they accidentally ran my card twice on the day I scheduled the payment to settle the account. The voided the second payment immediately, but it took my bank almost a week to bring my account positive after the mishap. But the supervisor, James, and my account agent, Claire, were extremely helpful and proactive in trying to fix their mistake after they found out my account was negative. My bank finally fixed it today.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. The lady on the phone calls yelling trying collect money, instead of simply explaining the reasoning of a balance owed and from whom in a professional way.

Should get zero "stars" . Received repeated threatening letters from them to collect a debt by me to Verizon?? Called Verizon, with whom I have never done one transaction in my life, and they said they do not use account numbers such as the one sited by this company in this "collection" letter. Faxed Verizon the threating letter from MB&W claiming I owed them, but they were uninterested in following up. Are there really enough stupid people out there to fall for this? Do we have a Regulatory Agency that will go to the trouble of busting this MB&W for felony fraud? Probably not.

Honestly, if you are dealing with these people, it's because somewhere along the line YOU messed up and didn't pay something and it got out of hand. Things generally don't go to a collection agency like this until 90-180 days after the due date, and that's if you ignore the bill and don't communicate. On top of that, if you call them yelling and and screaming m-f'er this m-f'er that, yeah, they probably won't be as responsive to your issue as they would be if you were polite.

That said, I had something I let get out of hand. When I finally was able to get it resolved, everyone I talked to on the phone here was friendly and polite. The only reason I give 4 stars is the first person I talked to told me I wouldn't get an emailed receipt of my payment, but that I'd get a "payoff letter" in two weeks from when I paid off my account. I had to call a month later because I still didn't get the letter. They were as helpful as a debt collector can be, otherwise.

Honestly, just be polite to them and they will treat you fairly and with respect.

ADP and Employers Doesn't know how to file paperwork - so after being billed for services never rendered and months to get that fixed - then send my non-existent account and balance to these con-artists who can't tell what their left hand is doing from their right. SCAM BUSINESS PRACTICES - I OWE NOTHING - STOP "TRYING" TO COLLECT. Took 3 MONTHS of Calling to get a real person - then on hold forever because they can't locate an "agent" to assist with the issue.

I keep getting junk phone calls that appear as though they are from "local" numbers, or numbers spoofed to look like they are local to me. I eventually got annoyed from having to block so many different phone numbers, and they would never leave a message, so one day I decided to call back. It was this company calling me. I left my name and phone number. They never responded. I don't have anything in collections. These people are annoying. I'm on the do not call list but that doesn't appear to help at all. If they keep calling me, I'm going to get in touch with my representative and both of my US Senators. It should be illegal to call and annoy people repeatedly for no good reason.

For five years now, these apparently inept debt collectors have been trying to collect a debt from a "Curry College". Somehow, they seem to think that this likely fictional college resides at my business address, which is a small street level storefront, and HAS NEVER HOUSED A COLLEGE, Curry or otherwise. Multiple attempts to inform them of their mistake have gone unacknowledged, and they continue to harass me, an unrelated bystander, and waste copious amounts of paper and time tracking down some fictional college that regardless of actual existence, seems to have more brain power than they do. YOU HAVE THE WRONG DAMN ADDRESS. CEASE AND DESIST. FIVE DAMN YEARS NOW PEOPLE, FIGURE IT OUT AND STOP WASTING PAPER. GOOD LORD.

My experience with this company was actually great. Someone fraudulently opened a phone account in my name and I only found out when $4500 of debt in my name had already been passed on to M,B and W. I called them to explain the situation, they explained what I needed to do, and less than a week later I had sent the police report and Identity Theft Report through to them and they had cleared the debt against my name and closed the case. Plus my credit rating has already gone back up. They were quick, helpful, and responsive!

Lady calls, name of Dana and introduces herself as a collection service stating an outstanding bill for $546.00+ from Verizon wireless which I do not do business with. Asked for documentations of the outstanding bill to be faxed over and said it could take up to a week for them to send related invoice.

I got a letter from them attempting to report an extra $300 on an account i had with Verizon. Sorry but thats not how it works. You can't just add extra money from original owed debt. That is illegal

I have been with Spectrum/Time Warner for 12 years, and this company send me a collection bill for $1600.00? I called Spectrum and they said that I am in good standing and have never been referred to a collection agency. The rep also told me that this is a scam and not to call them! Nice try!! I hope nobody lost any money to these bozos!!!

Once again music stopped, heard people, and then a fake sounding automated voice "recording" played asking for my account number. Hung up immediately. I suggest you do the same

They are a scamming joke of a company. Don't pay them a cent. If you owe a company money, they will formally send you in writing what is due, and maybe a follow up call. Not in writing, not a bill, "Don't Pay"
This is a real story. We had a business in Kingman Arizona up until October 2014. We paid all our bills and we didn't owe any money. Just got a call from these Smammers saying we owe money. Wow, they are reaching far. What a joke.

The most disgusting, rude, scum company to be allowed to operate. I was falsely turned over to collections by Sprint after a miscommunication when switching carriers. This collection agency treated me like scum who was a waste of their time and a waste of society's resources. This situation became the absolute biggest headache and McCarthy, Burgess, & Wolff made it all that much worse. Could not rate lower - you pathetic scar on humanity.

These people are absolute morons. We negotiated a deal and I gave them a credit card. They ran it and we were finished, or so I thought. I get a call back from them a couple hours later telling me that they were not able to process the payment and thus they needed me to go out of my way and do some sort of a digital check. In exchange for this, they were willing to offer me...wait for it.....absolutely nothing. The fact that these people are not able to process credit cards in Colorado is apparently my problem. That makes sense, right? In the end, they got nothing. The deal we had negotiated and apparently disposed of never actually happened. This is nothing short of complete incompetence and idiocy.

Emailed, mailed letters and called (no answer, so left a voicemail) to dispute a collection letter that was received in which our company has a receipt showing that no balance due. Have had no response from this company . Sounds like they have a reputation or trying to scam people.. someone needs to get a class action going against them (and some of the companies they represent) for their fraudulent business practices.

Said that oncore was own star text power adt I called oncore and was told know they don't they get over 2000 call about the lies that say when I call star text they said know we did send your bill there scam

This company has bad attitude, they are rude and bad when it come to collecting money. They ask for some one and you are taking a message and they still get mad!!!

Glad to see this disgraceful company has the 1 star rating it deserves. If I could give it a 0, I would. I had Employer's Insurance 3 years ago, paid my premiums in full and with zero claims. In return, Employer's hires the goons at using McCarthy, Burgess & Wolff to extort money out of me years after the fact. Thelma McCoy at extension 2268 his highly incompetent to the level that she has no knowledge of why she's trying to extract money, but tells me that payment of an arbitrary amount is only option. If this harassment persists, I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and taking further appropriate action.

This is a scam . They said I owed money from anytime fitness. I called anytime fitness and they verified that no money was owed. They tried to get me to verify my personal information and I told them no , They can do a reverse verification. People watch out. Do not give them any personal information or pay them one dime. Could not collect their way out of a paper bag. Idiots call my office over and over trying to say we have an AP issue. NEVER can tell us what it is. They have been trained to be smart asses on the phone which I am sure works really well for them. Some guy Brian is so low in self esteem he tries to be a smart ass and fails every time. I owned a large AR management firm for years and never had these kinds of practices. The guy even once told me there were a lot of people with my name but still can't say what the amount or the issue is. Stupid.

Good luck getting these people to respond to messages or follow instructions.
