Amazing art collection with all the Dutch and Flemish masters and not too crowded in Den Haag. Definitely worth a visit, and check out their restaurant upstairs. Tasty sweets - order the waffle, it's to die for - and great snacks like cheese balls and dutch bitter balls.

The Mauritshuis is home to the best of Dutch painting of the seventeenth century. The compact, yet world-renowned collection, is situated in the heart of The Hague, right next to the government centre. Masterpieces such as Vermeer s Girl with a Pearl Earring, Rembrandt s The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp, Fabritius The Goldfinch and Potter s The Bull are on permanent display in the rooms of this seventeenth-century monument.

Has recently been renovated and can compete internationally with other museums. New logo and top collection in striking building. There are just a few very beautiful works and the building itself, the interior, is also very worthwhile. So a total picture.
I also recently visited the temporary collection 'Slow Food' with still lifes of food from the 17th century. Very beautiful, with pieces from private collections or other museums. Unfortunately you are not allowed to take pictures there.
Brasserie is cleverly situated, ie accessible without a ticket via the entrance at the Plein. Nicely decorated and chic, but not really exciting and innovative.
The Facebook page is also nice, because there you can see what the museum posts and everything does, but also photos of people who have been there.
Only downside are the people at the lottery entrance who almost force you to participate. Because that is how you help the museums. Yes Yes.

Beautiful museum and fun children's exhibition in the summer. Regular exhibition with young children more difficult to visit, due to the many valuables. Admission for children free, so great to pay.

The mauritshuis has some very small rooms so it can feel a bit packed when looking at the paintings but the paintings are of excellent quality! Plan to go early to avoid the packed crowds in small rooms. Personally these paintings are of higher standard than the museums in Amsterdam. There is a gift shop and a cafe for refreshments and the piece the resistance, the painting of Vermeer: "The girl with the pearl"

Very nice museum with modern construction out of sight of the old construction of, for example, the inner court. As a lover of old buildings, I personally find it very unfortunate that a glass elevator has been placed in the middle of the old Mauritshuis. It does not look and swears with the old building.

Beautiful house and setting. The gallery itself was very intimate and well layed out. You can walk through each of the numbered rooms that take you through groupings of very famous paintings by theme or artist or subject. Of course, most people go to see Vermeer's 'Girl with the Pearl Earring' but the museum houses some spectacular Dutch artists and their portraits, landscape paintings and still-lifes. Truly a wonderfully quiet and gorgeously decorated museum. I spent 2-3hrs walking through each room but you could just as easily walk through the entire place in under an hour. There are only 2 floors of galleries so bear in mind that it is a lot smaller than perhaps you might be used to thinking.

I recommend the bistro for a quick pick-me-up or just as lovely a place for dinner as any. The staff are all very friendly and speak perfect English. Ticketing is best done online (around 15 for an adult ticket) so you can just walk in a scan your ticket from your phone. Alternatively, the front desk is also very helpful and can answer all your questions or assist you in any way they can.

Just a quick note: the entrance is a little inconspicuous because you have to go down some stairs from the front gates. If in doubt, just ask the security officer at the museum front. Once you descend the steps, you'll come out onto a lovely glass-fronted lobby where you'll see the front desk and gallery entrance.

11/10 would recommend and a must-visit while in Den Haag.

What a top collection. In addition to the famous canvases, also check out Rembrandt's smiling man, what a jewel. Or the hand-washing woman by Eglon van der Neer: per cm2 that dress is the most detailed part of the entire collection. And Rembrandt's old man, made incredibly sloppy almost in a hurry. But striking every region ... the anatomical lesson is a boring product. I count no more than 5 used pigments for both the Girl with a Pearl Earring and ice cream from Averkamp. For me an eye-opener about how technical limitations lead to masterpieces. Enjoy :) Oh and not 5 stars because the exposure is really jerk. Some frames draw thick drop shadows on the works that are in them.

About Mauritshuis

Mauritshuis: A Haven for Dutch Masterpieces

Mauritshuis is a renowned art museum located in the heart of The Hague, Netherlands. It is home to some of the finest Dutch paintings from the Golden Age, including works by Rembrandt and Vermeer. The museum's collection comprises over 800 paintings and artworks that showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Netherlands.

The Mauritshuis was originally built in 1633 as a residence for John Maurice, Prince of Nassau-Siegen. Later on, it was converted into an art museum in 1822 by King William I of the Netherlands. Since then, it has been a popular destination for art lovers from all over the world.

One of the most famous paintings housed at Mauritshuis is "Girl with a Pearl Earring" by Johannes Vermeer. This painting has become an icon not only for Dutch art but also for global culture as well. It depicts a young woman wearing an exotic turban and gazing directly at viewers with her enigmatic eyes.

Apart from "Girl with a Pearl Earring," Mauritshuis also boasts eleven other masterpieces by Rembrandt van Rijn, including his famous self-portrait painted in 1669 when he was already fifty-three years old. Other notable works include "The Anatomy Lesson of Dr Nicolaes Tulp," which depicts an anatomy lesson being conducted on a cadaver; and "The Goldfinch" or "Het puttertje," which portrays a chained bird perched on its feeder.

Visitors to Mauritshuis can expect to be transported back in time to experience firsthand what life was like during Holland's Golden Age (17th century). The museum's interior design reflects this period perfectly with its ornate ceilings, chandeliers, and grand staircases that lead visitors through galleries filled with stunning artwork.

In addition to its permanent collection, Mauritshuis also hosts temporary exhibitions throughout the year that showcase different aspects of Dutch culture and history. These exhibitions are curated carefully to provide visitors with unique insights into various themes such as fashion trends or social issues prevalent during different periods.

Mauritshuis offers guided tours led by knowledgeable guides who provide detailed information about each artwork displayed at the museum. Visitors can also opt for audio guides available in multiple languages if they prefer exploring independently.

In conclusion, if you're looking for an unforgettable cultural experience while visiting The Hague or simply want to immerse yourself in some world-class artistry - look no further than Mauritshuis! With its impressive collection of Dutch masterpieces spanning centuries past combined with modern amenities like interactive exhibits and multimedia displays - there truly is something here for everyone!
