I was seen for acute visit while on an anniversary trip with my husband. The staff members were so helpful and understanding from the ER Tech, Nurses, and Physician that saw me. They handled my situation with sensitivity and understanding.

Wife went in for Emergency Surgery while here on vacation. Absolutely no complaints. From triage to discharge, truly the most professional, kind and caring group of folks we have ever encountered. As nurses ourselves, they had a lot to live up to and they surpassed all expectations.

I have been to this hospital for treatment three times. I have never had a more negative experience in my life. It baffles me. I received my nursing degree several years ago and decided to change careers but I remember my training. I can only assume the nursing staff is overworked and under appreciated but almost the entire staff save a few exceptions were cold and without compassion, detached and not at all invested in thier patients. Several were actually rude and completely unprofessional. I am appalled. On the last visit to the ER I had five nurses in the 3.5 hours I spent there. I ve received better care in a third world country hospital where the medical staff barely spoke English. I have a great deal of experience with hospitals, in a professional sense and in a personal way. I am motivated to actually get involved and invoke some kind of change because this hospital is so incredibly terrible.

This Hospital doesn't know how to send billing or take care of emergency patients. Waited 3 hours, charged over $1,000 for 10 minutes of care. Sent more than one bill. What the hell is wrong with island medical care. Kaiser is a monopoly and the government won't do anything about it. Avoid if you can, but good luck.

I wish I could select 100 stars! From the moment I entered the ER the gracious hospitality began. Not only did they accurately diagnose my heart disease that was misdiagnosed on the mainland, they also found tumors in my lungs that otherwise would never have been discovered until to late! Dr Patel is amazing! The entire Cardiac ICU team was perfect, so kind & caring, Terry, George, Dr. Starbuck Now for the nurses. which are officially ANGELS In SCRUBS...Emma, Alyssa, Andrew, Lauren, Tina, Gina & NINA, I have so much respect & admiration for your job & the detailed care you provided me. I love you all & was so blessed by the nurturing care you lavished me with FOREVER GRATEFUL I'll be back, a healthier version of myself & I will fully enjoy God's Endless love & His Paradise creation.

If you have to be in the hospital this is an excellent place to be. The cardiac unit is award winning. The staff treated us like loved family. They sat and took their time explaining everything. We could not ask for better. They figured out what was wrong and fixed it. Dr Poon was excellent to work with as were all the staff.

My husband went to the hospital in May for an emergency. We received the bill in July which I promptly paid. Ever since (4 months now) they've sent past due statements even though I sent proof of payment and they confirmed the payment was misapplied to my account instead of my husband's. They kept telling me not to worry they would get it straightened out. They straightened it out alright...they sent us to a collections agency. When I called the billing department they say there is nothing they can do and won't allow you to talk to someone who can. Furthermore if my payment was applied to my account why was I never notified or refunded? I believe the funds have been misappropriated and they are hiding that fact. I am now in the process of filing grievances with the Better Business Bureau, Consumer Affairs for he State of Hawaii and the Attorney General's office. This hospital is a great place to avoid at all costs.

Update 11/22/19: After the owners response to contact their quality service line I've still received no assistance in resolving their billing issue. I've left two messages and I've heard zip, zero, zilch, nada, nothing whatsoever.
I guess this says it all. They aren't the least bit interested in helping people or fixing their screw-up. Pathetic!!!

This is hands down the worst hospital in America. ...

This is hands down the worst hospital in America. ER nurses Joey and Pam are the biggest idiots I have ever met in the medical field they have no compassion or empathy and have no business working in this field. I went in with a dislocated ankle and broken lower leg and was screaming the pain was so bad. Joey my nurse approached me and said "I know your hurting and I could give you something for the pain but I don't like your behavior and the fact that your screaming so I'm not going to" then walked out of the room. Pam then came in and said "you know we as nurses could chose to give you Motrin only so it doesn't matter that he told you that". When another nurse heard what they said she went and spoke to the doctor and came in and administered the pain meds. I was there not for a headache or some small injury but ankle was at that very moment dislocated and my fibula was broken in half and the bones were un-aligned I think I had the right to be screaming in pain. I was not screaming cause it was fun or because I wanted to be obnoxious I was literally screaming in pain. I proceeded to be treated like garbage by them for 2 days before being admitted for surgery. Before surgery they even sent me home with someone else's pain pill prescription. Most of the floor nurses and specialty doctors are good but only go to the emergency room if you want to be disrespected, humiliated or killed. They should fire both Joey and Pam now as I will be contacting a lawyer this week for the way I was treated, the threats that were made to me, and the many mistakes in my treatment that were made. I have worked in the medical field I know the laws and I know which ones and how they were broken. Only go to this ER if you have no choice or have a death wish. MMMC is its very own hell on earth.

I received treatment from this emergency room in July. They are in network for my insurance company and I have met the deductible for the year. They keep trying to balance bill me over $2000! I've sent numerous inquiries and even got the insurance company to send a letter to them to tell them they've been paid and to stop. Now I've received a letter from their collections group out of CA. If you reach Google for this issue, you'll see it's in the papers that they do this. If I owed it, I would pay it (I've already paid around $2000 to meet the deductible to this hospital but I balance billing is wrong and in violation of their contract with the insurance company). Stay away if you don't like surprises.

My boyfriend called me from Hawaii, while I was in California to tell me he was going to the emergency room at Maui Memorial Hospital. I flew 3500 miles to visit him when the nurses told me.... if I could be there I should be there.. but when I arrived they would not let me see him....due to his mother being his surrogate. And indicating he didnt want to see me....which obviously wasnt the case...Now my boyfriend has woken up and was able to make his own decision to see me, and obviously wanted me to be close. Since then he has been moved to the Tower and out of the ICU Ward which is great. The nurses and the staff have been very kind since I've been able to visit with him..although he still has a long road ahead, his options are definitely looking up.

My grandmother is very ill. We brought her in, they didn't have room in the ER for a couple hours, they took her in..and she remained in a bed in the ER for over 24 hours.
In the meantime they never fed her, they didn't make sure she was fed at all, and then when they finally got a bed for her she was in a room in the hospital for less than a day when they called us suddenly to pick her up and she's being discharged.
Supposedly her 'vitals are fine and bloodwork seems fine' and they 'need the room for someone else so she has to go and if she stays until midnight you will have to pay $1600".
Well if she's fine why then is she still throwing up, wheezing, weak, barely able to move..oh and with her dementia she barely even realizes she's sick, think she's 'fine', but they don't contact her daughter who has power of attorney for health related decisions to talk about things. No. They just see this sick old woman, say you're fine get out when she is NOT FINE as anyone can see and is not eating, but hey, thanks for not caring for her and then kicking her out.
This place SUCKS since the takeover by Kaiser. The doctor who oversaw her care is a quack and we will be filing an official complaint!

Jet Ski accident landed me here for a couple of days recently. The medical attention was second to none. In particular, Amber and Roxie, along with Brady and Alexis provided world class care. I simply can t find the words to thank them enough. Perhaps that s the true meaning of mahalo ? Forever in gratitude for their knowledge, skills, service and compassion...Marty.

Yesterday I brought my daughter in with symptoms of adrenal crisis. Beginning with the triage nurse through every medical individual we dealt with, they were efficient, compassionate, and knowledgable. Dr. Williams was amazing and thorough and we wish he could teach the ER personnel in OC, CA how to properly address an adrenal crisis. Thanks to the staff at Maui Memorial, my daughter is resting comfortably and the emergency alleviated. THANK YOU Dr Williams and Maui Memorial - we are deeply appreciative!!

I was as a tourist on Maui and I have some trouble...

I was as a tourist on Maui and I have some trouble with my hearing after scuba diving. I wanted a check-up just to be sure.
I was in the ER for a little under 45 minutes (Including paperwork) a doctor examined me for 5 minutes (besides some standard tests executed by nurses.)
The staff was very helpful and I was confirmed by the doctor that all was OK and I got some prescripts.

I know it was going to cost me going to the ER so to be sure I took 400$ from the ATM before going to the ER.
The lady doing the payments let me know it was 500-ish dollar. I paid her the 400 cash I had and she said the bill was going to be send for the last 100-ish us$ to my home address. Which I think was very expensive but no problem to pay the bill.
I got all the paperwork signed off.

So far so good.

Now a couple of months later I get a letter from the hospital. Basically an envelope with 2 letters in it, the same bill but 2 different dates.
The letter states that I have to pay over 800US$ and that nothing has been payed yet. No mention about the 100$ that still needs to be payed.

They know I can't go to court with this, hiring a lawyer in the US would cost me more. I think sending the 2 letters in one envelope is some sneaky trick so they can say that a reminder has been send already?

If this go to trail and I get convicted by not showing up in court, next time I enter the US I'll probably have to pay a small fortune in costs.

Leaving me with no choice of paying over 800$, This feels like extortion to me. "scoring an easy dollar since he don't has a choice anyway."

As a tourist: Go there if it is really really necessary, the medical staff is great and they will help you in a very professional way.
But be aware for the finance department afterwards!
This leaved me paying over 1200 us$ for 40 minutes basic examining = 30us$ a minute where I was in waiting most of the time.

My mother, 83, received expert care at the hospital when she broke her hip during our visit there in Summer 2012. She received a partial hip replacement, and everyone, from attendants to the hospital's social worker, nurses, doctors and chief surgeon all gave optimum care to my mother, and kept me, her daughter, who was with her at the time, continually informed in detail about my mom's needs and the procedures she would undergo before, during and after. We were and remain grateful to the expert medical team at Maui Memorial. Mahalo, one and all!

While awaiting a doctors care, approximately 34 minutes, the staff in the emergency room passed judgement on my reasons for seeking their care, verbally ridiculed me within earshot of the entire emergency room. I know they'll lie and say it didn't happen, but think of being in pain that made you dizzy, you were afraid of falling and because the staff, doctors and nurses, feel you're not a valid enough human you'll be talked about badly in this hospital. I'm more sick about walking 3 miles in a daze. Shame on you you shouldn't be in patient care with such rude intentions for others.

My husband was rushed to the ER while we were on vacation here. While they are not the fastest they were truly amazing thus the 5 stars. My husband is a heart patient, we didn t know what was going on but they were thorough to figure it out. We have two young children and everyone was so amazing about them and not only making sure my husband was taken care of but us as well. While the answer to my husbands problems were still not 100% answered we knew the root and what he needed to do to get better. Be patient, this is a hospital, it takes awhile and not only locals but so many vacationers come here. Mahalo Maui Memorial

My husband suffered from a kidney stone in April while on vacation. The hospital was wonderful. But, hope you don't deal with radiology. Their radiology department billing is a separate business. We have been fighting 8 months getting them to correctly file our insurance. It's like they have never filed a claim before! It's ridiculous. Please change the company who does the billing and use someone competent.

Very disappointed in everything dealing w them, from the high bill to the bureaucracy surrounding it.

My daughter fell and got three stitches at the beginning of the year while on a fam trip in Hawaii. The bill was close to $2000 as our insurance didn't cover them. As I tried paying the remainder of my bill, around $1300 I encountered difficulty after difficulty. I am not sure why they made paying them so hard. They were hard to get through the billing department, I had to call a few times to figure out what to select from their menu.

Came to the hospital twice and both times we been waiting to be seen the last time it was about 4 hours to be seen this time we are still waiting. Plus the front check in lady's are very disrespectful. I watched an elderly woman ask the lady where to go and the check in lady gave her attitude and rolled her eyes and then told her where she needed to go. Just the WORST HOSPITAL EVER.!!!!!!

Tonight I called in to speak with someone at the emergency room so I could assess the possible wait time and or traffic at the ER , my 4 year old daughter was ill
Waiting for 4 hours or more at the ER would be worse for my little one, then her being home in bed
So I decided to call the hospital
The woman who answered the main line 244-9056 , said she will not send my phone call through to that department because they are not allowed to give me any indication of the wait time nor can anyone in that department give me medical advice ( I was not looking for advice). I kindly told her thank you, I understand ,can you please transfer my call, she simply repeated herself and then hung up the phone on me.
If this is the new Kaiser, I can respect policy but do not believe bad attitude, a lack of compassion and rudeness should accompany bad policy
I also know how hectic it can get and so maybe fielding calls could assist with the chaos in the ER
Since we on Maui have no choice, this type of behavior may slip through the cracks for a while but I hope Kaiser management does not condone it
Time called 10:50pm , Sunday Nov 26th, I'm sure you can find out which employee it was
Thank you
Of course I've decided to allow my daughter to get rest and to wait it out until morning and avoid the hospital all together

I can not believe! What the RN! My son toe is red and been crying it hurts. Alot! So I ask can I get some pain medication for him. Since, we've been here since 9pm. He told me " u should have gave him medicine to him before u came ". I'm just shocked! I understand they have a lot of other sick people. I felt like he just gave me a answer and left. I didn't mean to walk in Triage-1. The security guard told me to wait in that room. He was like " I'm being nice, but your not!" Even thought I know I was being understanding I just didn't understand why not one of them ask. If they can get him something. The RN even look at us. I was being patient, but my 5 year old been crying for like 10 mins. Overall not a good at services. I do understand they are busy. I'll always respect this field. I've never been treated this way at any hospital or ER. The small brown was so nice then rude to me.

Seamless and wonderful experience beginning to end! Every single person I encountered was so friendly and made me feel at ease. The nurses seemed happy at work which was very refreshing to see! I felt very safe, comfortable and well cared for. I think they checked my wristband and cross referenced with my chart four times! Awesome staff!

Amazing experience! From the time I pulled up and was greeted by a valet parking attendant, to the 3 smiling people at the front lobby, all saying -Aloha, to the no-lines to check in, to the nurse Precious who met me at the prep rooms, I received nothing but kindness and graciousness. Every single nurse, doctor, or office personnel was extremely nice.
I had a tumor removed from the parotid gland in my neck, and the experience couldn't have been any better. The nurse in the recovery room was especially nice (cant remember her name because I was out of it) but she seemed truly sympathetic to my nausea, giving me a cracker so I wouldn't throw up. She was from St. Louis, I think.
Anyway, from start to finish, things couldn't have gone smoother. Everyone was amazing, and I am recovering nicely. This was hands down, the best clinical/hospital experience I've ever had, and I've had several surgeries in St. Louis and Tennessee. Beautiful, clean facility, and helpful staff, and best of all--no waiting or crowding. I felt like I was the only "sick" person on Maui! Treated like a queen.

While staying in Kaanapali, I had what turned out ...

While staying in Kaanapali, I had what turned out to be an alarming atrial fibrillation which felt like a heart attack (very common here with new arrivals exhausted from travel, hot days, excessive sun exposure, dehydration, and alcohol intake if applicable ). The paramedics did a great job and were even able, after placing electrode leads and starting an IV line, to diagnose the problem and rule out a heart attack. Then, after phone consult with the Doctor, they were able to encourage the reversal of the fibrillation by giving me oxygen and fluids in the ambulance. From Ka anapali to the hospital is an hour ride in the ambulance so I was very pleased and grateful that the paramedics knew their job so well. By the time we got to the hospital I was feeling pretty good. The job of the ER was then to make certain that my condition had stabilized and to decide whether to do more diagnostic tests and keep me longer or release me with specific instructions. The physician I spoke to was wonderful and spent quite a bit of time explaining my options and the rationale for the different choices. I had a lot to consider and chose to not go through a battery of additional tests that would take many more hours unless the symptoms returned. Everyone I spoke to including the financial person, was professional, respectful, thorough, and well-educated in performing their specific duties. The other patients in the ER with me seemed very well cared for also and I heard no complaints from anyone and no friction between workers. If its necessary to be in an energency room on an Hawaiian vacation, I d highly recommend this one.

While on vacation in beautiful Maui, my husband had a medical issue and was taken to the Maui Memorial ER for evaluation. Dr William Eilert and nurse, Alison Zalesiak we re totally awesome. They quickly made us feel comfortable and test were run in a timely manner. Luckily, he was released without further medical assistance. The entire staff was kind and considerate of our emotional and physical needs. They also assisted with transportation arrangements to take us back to our resort in the middle of the night. Did I mention, this was all during hurricane Hector? I appreciate the entire staff that we encountered. Aloha from Texas!

I was visiting Maui for the first time and did not intend to do medical tourism. A situation arose and my wife took me to the ER. I was kindly received and quickly transferred to a bed. I got there at change of shift and had no shortage of friendly staff helping me. I have forgotten most of the names, but Alyssa was a wonderful nurse and Brian and Megan both helped even though they were assigned to other patients. Dr Langston did a thoughtful work up and directed the team during my procedure. Negatives - I found blood on the bathroom floor (ERs, am I right?) but the housekeeping staff was already on it.
All in all, we were pleased to find such quick, kind and competent care.

I'm not sure why all the bad reviews. Husband took me to the ER with terrible stomach pains and I was seen almost immediately. Every single staff member was extremely efficient, knowledgeable, and good to me. The surgeon, Dr. Chasen, was very thorough when explaining the testing, my condition, and procedures he might need to do if I wasn't feeling better by the following day. Dr. Chasen checked on me multiple times each day to evaluate how I was doing. Couldn't have asked for better care anywhere. Only negative: hospital ran out of morphine the 2nd day of my stay which was rather shocking. I was given another form of pain killer which did the trick, so not a problem for me. I highly recommend this hospital and staff. They're the best!

Went there and told them I was having breathing problems and chest pains. Was immediately rushed in as these symptoms are severe and could indicate a heart attack.

Dr saw me ASAP and said, "what's going on?" Reply: "chest pains, breathing problems, and oh yeah, a broken clavicle (collerbone) from a bicycle accident I was just in". Though the fact that I was having chest pains is not a lie, it's unfortunate that such a tactic was necessary to get immediate attention.

Remember folks, break a toe, just kinda fall over on your side a little so you can tell them chest pains too

I was treated by Dr Ayres for a frozen shoulder. He passed me off to a PA who made a few ink marks on my shoulder and then passed me off to a nurse who gave me a cortisone shot in a much different place than my orthopedic surgeon in San Diego. The the result was much less improvement in range of motion and much less pain relief that I obtained when the cortisone shot was administered by my orthopedic surgeon Dr Stuart Marshall in San Diego. I will not be treated again by Dr Ayers and his PA and nurse.

I had since about 3 month problems , heartack similar pain, passing out....they couldn't find anything and just gave me benzodiazepines which I did not know what they were..but the way highly addictive, they only told me something to calm me down you have anxiety the person next to me also anxiety.not even my therapist put me on benzos.i went a few times to the ER cause I couldn't get appointments with my primary care for over 2 month.i did get diagnosed now with anxiety but they did not know that back then.today I had breathing problems and went to the er and Jeri, the nurse who checked me in looked at me and said "looks like you don't have such a problem breathing". When they did bring me to the room I heard the nurse saying oh she comes in a couple times a month, she has anxiety. First of all, you're a scribe not a doctor. As soon as the doctor came in he acted weird. My husband directly said to the doctor "anxiety what?" and I told him it's not anxiety this time, and said that It's more than anxiety. The doctor then said that he wanted to order a big lung functioning test and guess what the nurse brought, a peak flow meter! the nurse did the test with me and it was off but he didnt even tell the doctor.my blood pressure was over 180 and at 176 the nurse said u can go home, it's way lower now.i was still dizzy..Feeling sad about how they treated me.makes me not wanna go there anymore at all even if I have an emergency out of fear that they will think it's anxiety again.

Amazing cardiac care. My father was airlifted here from Kona with a heart attack. They saved his life. We will be forever grateful to the doctors, nurses and staff here.

The ICU care was absolutely fantastic, and every single interaction we have had with staff is outstanding.

I went in on Christmas Day due to falling oxygen levels. The RN Debra was incompetent and rude. She never hooked up IV, charged but wasted. My oxygen dropped to 85 and machine went ignored for over 10 minutes. Same thing happened again, ignored again.
I had pneumonia in April with same symptoms. Doctor Cho talked down to me the whole time. I'm a nurse and know my body and medication.
Very disappointed at the way I was treated. I'll definitely be driving to Lahaina for care. I was highly symptomatic with oxygen at 85 and heart rate at 120bm and DISCHARGED.

As it turns out, I was discharged with a HIGHLY SYMPTOMATIC PULMONARY EMBOLISM. I literally could have died. I went back two days later and was finally given a cat scan; I was there from Dec27-Jan 3. I was very sick. ALL I SAW AROUND ME WAS YOUNG TRAVELING NURSES. DO YOU KNOW THERES AN EXTREMELY GOOD NURSING SCHOOL DIWN THE STREET? But MMC continues to hire young people from out of state; it's a sad thing that you don't even take care of the community that does hours and hours of free care as students.
Super disappointed in the entire experience. Dr Cho should not be a physician; I could be dead because of her gross incompetence.
You also got the diagnosis wrong; it wasn't COPD (which I don't have) but a BLOOD CLOT IN MY LUNGS.

$850 for and Emergency Experience that they did not even care about.

The people at the Emergency room were rude, inattentive, and could not get what we came in for right. My daughter has severe tree nut allergies. She got a candy bar from a store that she thought was a coffee, but had toffee that had almonds in. We rushed her to the Hospital and when our son had a similar problem, another hospital rushed him back and treated him instantaneously. They did Nothing for 20 minutes,,, then finally got her back and checked her heart beat.,... did not even give her Benadryl... by the time the Doctor finally saw her,,, (2 hours later) we knew she was not going into shock... They kept say peanut allergy which is not the same.

To top it off, they send me a $850 dollar bill (Almost $1,200, but my terrible MODA insurance kicked in for a few hundred,,, awful)... If it were not for personal info On the EOB I would show your the $1146 dollar bill for the "emergency visit" and $19.75 for the Benadryl....

Maui is awesome... just do not get sick...

Billing clerks, doctors and especially the nurses! every single person there needs an attitude check. They are there to help/save/treat you but the attitude they give off and the way they treat you and your family members shows they could care less. Very uncomfortable aura and treatment, if you can go to another urgent care, do it!

Went there with sea urchin spikes in the foot. Here is the result of the visit:
1. waited 3 hours in emergency care room
2. two doctors looked at my foot as if it was something new (they get sea urchin people every day)
3. gave me a pain killer pill to sleep through the night. Not even tried to pull the sea urchin spikes from my foot.
4. paid 50$ before leaving

now to the fun part:
I am a Kaiser Permanente member, however the Maui Kaiser used the opportunity to charge the hell out of me. So in next few months I received:
1. Emergency room charge for $330
2. Medical Associates charge $550
My suggestion: don't go there because this is pretty much a billing department, they are not interested to help you. If you go, don't tell them you insurance or show ID.

Maui Memorial Medical Center Hospital is still jun...

Maui Memorial Medical Center Hospital is still junk
Based on personal experience and stories from others, Kaisers MMMC is still providing us with junk heath care, especially when compared to Oahu Hospitals. The blame rest squarely on Kaisers MMMC management and the people who let Kaiser take control of Maui s only hospital. We ve all heard the horror stories from MMMC, but they become very real when you almost die there.
I went to MMMC for a routine non surgical ERCP to remove a stone from my pancreatic duct. After almost dying of Acute Kidney Failure in the ICU, I left MMMC being kept alive by Kidney dialysis and with other serious medical problems I never had before and had nothing to do with my pancreatic duct.
A month after my discharge from MMMC, I went to Poli Momi Hospital on Oahu for the same ERCP procedure. They found and removed a large stone (13mm) that MMMC somehow missed which was the start of the series of events that led to my Kidney failure there. There were no complication at Poli Momi, I didn t almost die, and went home the next day.
Why was Poli Momi s staff and equipment so much better? Why do Maui people have to fly to Oahu to make sure they don t die from simple medical treatment? We were led to believe that Kaiser running Maui Memorial would change things. It hasn t.
Oh, If something goes seriously wrong with your treatment at MMMC, the grievance dept. is run by Kaiser public relations dept. It seems the whole MCCC is a PR effort to make Maui people believe they can get quality medical care at MMMC when they really need to go to Oahu for that. Kaisers motto should be suffer not thrive .

I'm so gd tired of this industry ripping people off in billing........they did it to me too 3 yrs ago. Someone mentioned it and another review but they were right, if you're from out of town, which I'm sure many of their patients are, they will rip you off. Continued billing that you feel obligated to pay even if they were wrong because you don't want it affecting your credit scores, Etc. I'm so ready for a total revolution in the medical/pharma industry. This is where the government needs to step in and cut them off at the knees.

Horrible doctors, if in fact you can get an M.D. I...

Horrible doctors, if in fact you can get an M.D. I had been sick for 4 years and they kept shuffling me around from one test to another never giving a real diagnosis. I had H. Pylori as well as Giarrdia. You would think they would put 2 and 2 together and treat for a water borne illness. No,...... They just kept shuffling me around, keeping me on pain pills, and treating the symptoms not the cause. Which is the agenda now. So I did many years of online research. I decided to test the thing myself and took 500 milligrams of Ciproflaxin as well as 250 milligrams of Azithromyicin. In three days the symptoms I had Ben going to the E.R. for are gone. I asked the emergency room doctor to allow me to take another 3 days regimen and he flat out refused. So did the doctor at the Shaw Street free clinc. She denied me as well. So good thing that they did work or I would still be sick with no end in sight. Which is what they want. To keep you hooked on pills so the Dr makes a kick back from big Pharma. Totally mid evil, cruel and unusual treatment! Find a better service for Maui. Please do not let them take over Maui Memorial. Memorial is bad enough but Kaiser is worse!

You have to be kidding me i have never seen a restaurant this dirty let alone a hospital. I happen to have the unfortunate experience of taking my wife to the emergency room at 1:30 in the morning to a filthy and disorganized mess.

GOOD thing she wasn't seriously ill. !!!!!!

My wife and I were due to fly out from Maui at 930 am, but she was rather unwell waking up that morning at the hotel - we went to the hospital emergency department and were treated in a kind, prompt and professional manner. All staff were very conscious of our very tight timeframe to get to the airport, and were very flexible regarding the treatment options that would still enable us to travel - I was on the phone to the airline seeing what options we had to change flights while also in the treatment suite, which must have been annoying for the doctors and nurses, but they were very understanding. Nurses Rosenblad and Bartlett were very reassuring, and Dr Yashimoto was everything you could want in an emergency physician - he explained our options in a very calm concise manner, which enabled us to make an informed decision about the treatments available, which he then performed without delay which made my wife feel much better and able to travel. We made our flight, and she is now home and comfortable. Thanks to all the staff, it was very much appreciated..

Waited over 8 hours just for a bladder infection and antibiotics prescription. Ridiculous amount of waiting for my 83 year old grandma and I. It really felt like we were being ignored. If they would ve given us attention right away, we could ve been out of there within an hour.

My wife and I went in with concerns about her pregnancy while on vacation. The emergency room staff admitted her immediately and had her in a room in Obstetrics with a nurse right away. They called in Dr Rogers who diagnosed the problem immediately, called in Dr Atkins, called Life Flight from Honolulu and had her on the operating table to perform an emergency C section. The surgery went great, the baby was handled with incredible care before being flown to Honolulu and my wife was treated by an amazing staff who even came to visit when they were working in other areas of the hospital. Without their quick recognition of a problem and immediate action I don't think our premature baby would have the opportunity he does now. I can't begin to express the gratitude I have for these people.

I can t even describe how terrible this hospital is... please avoid at all costs! When they find out you are from out of town they will rip you off!!! I went in there because my son got an ear infection, which I wrote on the paperwork. When the NURSE PRACTITIONER saw us he confirmed that my son had an ear infection. He wrote a prescription and sent us on our way. We were there for a total of one hour. Now between the one hour hospital stay and the Nurse Practitioner who works under the doctor, we are being charged $1400 after insurance. They are trying to charge us for a level 3 service when going in for an ear infection and staying an hour is clearly a level 1 service. They are greedy and have no self respect. It makes me never want to visit Hawaii again. If you keep taking advantage of the mainlanders all of your tourist dollars will soon disappear.

Got to the ER at 12:42am and they didn t register my son til 3:10am. They were very apologetic until they sat me in another room at 3:46am, to wait another hr and some change. I still haven t met the Dr, but I ve met several nurses now. If I wanted to give my son Motrin, have him go to sleep, and talk story, I could ve did that at home. I brought him in because that was only working for a lil while. I asked a nurse when will my son be seen by a DR, she tells me she ll go check for me, but instead her and the DR are laughing it up having a good ol time...It s now 5:13am... I m going home, I will never go there again!!!! If I could I would give this place no stars...I will stick with Maui Medical Group.

Went in for emergency care and received very excellent, professional, friendly, and thorough care from beginning to end. Brian was my ER Nurse, and Dr. Williams was the ER Physician, and both carefully explained every step of the care they gave me so that I understood what was happening. Brian even detected an issue above and beyond what I originally went in to the ER for, and he took care of it quickly. And Dr. Williams actually called my regular medical provider to make a follow up appointment for me. That is top quality service. I feel much better after my visit. Thank you Maui Memorial Medical Center ER!

On August 7, 2015, I had a terrible bicycle accident riding down Mt. Haleakala that required 14 nights in the hospital and two surgeries before I was able to travel home. I am beyond thankful to Dr. Lamberti, Dr. Bezrukov and entire staff at Memorial Medical Center. My shoulder has healed better and I have much greater range of motion than my local surgeon ever thought I would achieve. The nurses and aides were competent and compassionate. I have no complaints about Maui Memorial Medical Center.

There a lot of problems. The stereo type of Maui's partying and not caring is in full effect at this hospital 24/7. That plus mixing the islander prejudice against white males with liberal west-coast special interest, this hospital is more like a conservative caregiver's nightmare. Every effort to provide ethical care is thwarted, and that is no exaggeration. Don't let the aloha spirit customer service fool you. It is part of training for employees.

If I could choose no stars I would. This hospital ...

If I could choose no stars I would. This hospital is terrible. I went to the ER one evening due to signs of liver failure. Upon getting admitted to the ER, tests revealed I in fact had severe liver failure. They ran a couple tests, then gave me morphine (which closes the liver more) and discharged me at 5am, when I had no one with me. I stumbled outside and passed out in a flower bed. Thank God my mother found me. When I saw a doctor a week later, because I was still in liver failure, he was shocked that they treated me this way and i wasn't admitted and rushed me back to the hospital. They admitted me and ordered every test you could imagine. Unfortunately, the doctor on the floor I was on cancelled all testing and fluids but had me sit there for 3 days confused. I was severely neglected. I finally found a doctor outside of the hospital that ran a ton of tests to finally figure out I had contracted HEP E. If they would have just continued with testing while I was admitted, I could have avoided the months of running around for testing and extra costs that were procured. It was a traumatic and awful experience. This wasn't the first time. They also gave me morphine without me knowing when I was admitted with a kidney infection WHILE PREGNANT. I was neglected and left drugged for 3 days that time also and never saw a doctor. They said they weren't even sure if it was actually a kidney infection when i was discharged. Awful service, millions of horror stories from everyone on island. I recommend you get on a plane and go to Oahu if you need care.

I went to mmh for a long time on and off for different reasons.. When I had a chest infection, they took good care of me, twice, when normal doctors shrugged me off (Maui medical group for example) Trust me, I've had some weird symptoms with my chest due to vog and acid reflux and they nurses and doctors all doctors believed me and explain what was going in and gave me antibiotics. They also treated a kidney stone I had really well with fluids, pain killers and a water pill. Other hospitals don't even treat people with fluids (on mainland for example) They do a thorough checkup on you, and believe you when you're having symptoms. That's just been my experience with the ER.

For tourists, I have to say this. Don't get injured. You don't want to see the inside of a hospital. This is the biggest hospital on Maui and if they are unable to treat you here, you will have to be flown to Oahu. It is nice having a hospital of this size on the island, but there really needs to be more on the island. For those who are injured in Kihei or Lahaina and need to be rushed all the way to Wailuku, it can be a journey. Also an expensive journey in an ambulance.

Everyone that helped that I remembered was friendly and nice. BUT when it was time to check out on the side by the valet parking, the lady there was a b**ch. She was short with short hair on the chubby side with glasses. At least you don't have to deal with her for long but it is also the last face you see when you leave. They need to find someone with more Customer Service experience cause she obviously belongs working where you talk to no one. I mean it's a hospital! How do you think people are feeling while in there? Like hell. So please find workers where you feel that comfort.

Not sure why this hospital doesn t have a 5 star rating but my husband and I rushed our 11 month old baby here in the middle of the night with a head injury. My husband is a physician so we are very picky when it comes to health care. Dr. Truong was amazing and we were in and out fairly quickly. If you have a medical emergency, this is the place to go.
