The portions keep getting smaller and price continues to go up at once was a really great restaurant.

The food is good, the service is good but it's a little on the pricey side.

Average food which had been on the stove way too long everything had basically turned to mush.

Always a good meal and drinks. Older crowd is just what I like. Friday and Saturday night packs the bar. Always sports on the tv at the bar. Local establishment.

Had a bit of a wait for our food but food was great once it got to us. I would say it was worth the wait.

The crabs were incredible. Ordered the medium and they were quite large and full of great meat. Awesome spices on top and great beers on tap to pick from to go with them.

Nice restaurant good food but wings weren't done or seasoned well. Ceasar salad was awesome added chicken and shrimp.

Great place for a quiet dinner and conversation. Quality of food especially the Gnocci dish was superb!

This place me and my family have been going here for a long time we will ride are bike here and they have a good bar great dinning and very friendly staffers

Service wa really slow... we let them know this when we got the check but reminded them that we asked for the dessert menu as they dropped the check...ended up going to another place for dessert- OPIES!!!

The Avalon is my go-to. Nice ambiance upstairs. Bartenders are always friendly and service is great!

We had our wedding reception at Matthew's and it was exceptional! The food was amazing and all our guests raved! The room was a great size we had about 80 people or so, and the dance floor was awesome. I was very happy with our overall experience, the service that the offer to help you get your event together and make sure it runs smoothly, is exceptional. Thank you Matthews! I appreciate it!

Fantastic service and even better food. Crab egg rolls..wonderful. Pasta Annapolis delicious...loaded with lump crabmeat, scallops & shrimp. The seafood was cooked perfectly the pasta as well. My friend had Caesar salad topped with blackened salmon...perfect . The cocktails were also nicely done. I will not only retire but recommend thus restaurant to others. Thanks

August 25 a friend from out of town and I dined at Matthews. Have always had a great experience in that past and was planning the same. Everyone was friendly as usual. We were seated and the waiter took our order promptly. A couple came in atleast twenty minutes after us was were seated and in a normal amount of time were served. Another ten minutes went by and we still hadn't been served. Asked to see out waiter and when he came to the table apologized and said he had forgotten to place our dinner order. Fine mistakes happen. Food finally comes and we have dinner. Ask for the check and the waiter dropped it by. It was for the full dinner amount. I said nothing to him and paid the bill. On the way out I spoke to the host and informed him of what happened. He never offered a discount or a gift card or at the very least, dessert to go? I'm very disappointed in the customer service.
As I said to him, I've eaten in Matthews many times. It won't happen again. I realize that mistakes happen but no steps were taken for me, a loyal patron, to feel as though my buisness mattered to him at all.

This restaurant is very quiet and warm, yet busy with a diverse group of people. It has a cozy house vibe to it and the food is delicious! Highly recommend checking it out!

A different atmosphere and food quality than I remember. The room was buzzing with a full house of people who were into the plates of food they had ordered. Our waitress was very friendly and on top of what the menu had to offer. However, the food was very dissapointing. The gumbo was sooo bitter(maybe due to adding flour unsuccesfully) & my salad was withered. I did enjoy my company for the evening but have to rethink Matthew's.

loads of parking. Casually and comfortably decorated, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, good service, I had a petite Filet and crab cake, both were excellent. Give them a try, I think you will become a repeat diner.

Matthew's 1600 is a fantastic place to eat at any time, but during the various family holidays such as Mother's Day, Father's Day and so on they put on an incredible buffet.

About two years ago one of our family members suggested that we go to Matthew's for Mother's Day. I thought that it would be impossible to get in anywhere on Mother's Day but I was certainly wrong when it came to Matthew's 1600. We made a reservation and then everyone met there at the appointed time. Their buffet was filled with wonderful dishes and the employees made sure that everything from main courses to deserts were kept constantly full and attractive.

When you make a reservation you get 2 hours of time in the restaurant to eat and that is easily time enough to satisfy everyone from your youngest family members to the oldest.

I have never seen such a great restaurant to use for these occasions and I would give them 10 stars if I could rather than just 5 stars. They really are that good.

Have been here several times. This one was a birthday party downstairs. Let's just say it convinced my wife and I that if someone needs a place to hold a party this is the one. Gluten free, vegan options, completely delicious food, excellent staff and the room makes you feel like you're at a family members house.

Ate upstairs at the bar level. Spacious. Good seafood mac and cheese appetizer, nice caesar side salad. Plenty of parking.

Delicious crab cakes and highly recommend the fried green beans!

Had lunch clubhouse sandwich, it was very filling.. my son actually ate the rest when I got home. The server young lady very nice.. service was quick..

Very good food and a nice atmosphere. The waitress we had was fantastic. She even got the bartender to make up a drink to fit my tastes. Loved it.

Nice waitstaff . I feel bad for them . The food needs updating fully. I had the ahi tuna app over Asian slaw . It was seared ahi, a 1950s american slaw . Over Chinese sweet and sour sauce and Dijon mustard spots . No ginger, no sesame oil, nothing that compliments Ahi.
The Chicken tenders were ok but were probably frozen . Very strange

Food is great and service is fine. Atmosphere is very casual and dated.

Food was bland we ordered the crab eggrolls which personally I would serve with a old bay aioli or something similar not a sweet chili sauce, shrimp crostini needed garlic, salt, pepper just seasonings.

Always good food. Service is always great. My family and I dine here often and we've never had one complaint about anything. Honestly.

Increasingly dissappointing. I used to love this place but for the last couple of visits it's been a let down. At our most recent visit they wouldn't take a reservation (they told me to just come) and then literally wouldn't seat us as a party of 6.

Been three times. Every time had to ask to be waited on. They seat you and forget about you. Also oddly loud/noisy. Can hear the person across from you.

Delicious food, and staff is very nice! Quiet atmosphere, so great for a casual lunch or simple evening out. Good location if you are in the Catonsville area. Would visit again!

We usually go to Matthews for special occasions & we went there for Mother's Day dinner buffet. 4 adults and 2 small children. It was $43 a person and my 5 yr old was$23. She has never eaten $23 worth of food! Thankfully they didn't charge for my 2 yr old. He food was fair. I can see kids being $10 each and adults maybe $25. We didn't order drinks. Everyone had water or lemonade.
Our bill was almost $300!
We do get good service though.
This was our last visit.

Matthew's 1600 is a local and iconic wonder of a location near the heart of Catonsville, MD. The food is amazing, (seafood salad), great ambiance and rooms for private functions. Highly recommended.

Attended a function held here and the buffet provided was outstanding. They have great parking and excellent facilities.

Food is generally pretty good and portion sizes are appropriate. Last time I went I had the Maui mahi-mahi which was good but the rice pilaf and the broccoli were rather flavorless. Our first waitress was Olivia and she was great my son loved her and got along great with her. But then shift change came and we were not notified about shift change and suddenly we just had another server who never introduced herself or anything so we were left rather confused and feeling bad that we hadn't tipped Olivia out and were no longer able to. Other than that though it was a good experience, the restaurant feels clean and that they're doing everything properly for coronavirus so I commend them for that for sure.

We had a party planned for later this month. Obviously it had to be canceled, however they REFUSE to refund the deposit. The managers were was ok: they said we could get our money back but the Lori was extremely rude and has refused to refund the money. Unprofessional, unacceptable, and litigation is soon pending.

Hosted a perfect private party for our family. Highly recommend!

If Denny's had tablecloths and Bud Light. The most unbelievably rude staff at the bar in the history of restaurants.

Atmosphere is nice but not fancy. Servers are polite and seem to all be in their late-teens or early-twentys. Menu has nice variety and the food is prepared as expected. The food choices range from traditional to upscale with prices to match. There is a separate menu for gluten-free options, and the staff is quick to check other food/ingredient questions.

A full bar is available and visible in the dining area.

Daytime patrons are in the 50+ age range. The evening crowd is aged 28+.

No particular dress code, but no one looks shabby or distressed.

I was trying to schedule an event (mind you "was") and called the restaurant to reach the event manager but he was "busy". Staff weren't overly eager to assist, more eager to rid of the phone call; nonetheless, I was determined. Over the next 7 hours I called another four times. I left my information (hoping for a callback) and kept trying. The event's manager was steadily "busy, in a meeting". I had expected he'd run out of breath after all these meetings, but I was inexplicably wrong.

I'm local. I have been in the God-forsaken bar plenty times and promise you the manager's endless energy is not because of their food, which is at best, mediocre. It's likely because he likes "meetings" more than he likes doing business.
Sole reason I was trying to schedule my event there was because its proximity to my business (work event). Despicable me...plenty of good restaurants around with better food and service...

Let me tell you something Matthew s!!!!!
Do not EVER get rid of the crab egg rolls! These egg rolls fed my soul and inner being. Big pieces of juicy lump crab meat deliciously seasoned in a chewy flaky crust delivered to you from the throne of God himself! They re served with a sweet chili sauce that I was hesitant about at first, but the sauce was a perfect compliment to the dish. As long as these egg rolls are here, I will continue to come back. If they take them off the menu, they will be responsible for my eternal depression in which there will be no return.
My service was also great! Forgot her name but I think she had pig tails, she was very attentive and gave exceptional service.

Always impressed and satisfied with the food and drinks. Service can be a little slow and the place is pricey but it's a very nice spot. We had our rehearsal dinner here last year in one of their beautiful party rooms. It was wonderful!
