Matthews 1600 Review

Though it was a bit expensive, the food was delicious. The seafood was especially good. Also a good place for parties or social gatherings.

Came in for a drink. Bartender was on her phone for around 5 minutes before coming up to us. Never asked what I wanted, just stared blankly at me until I stared to make a drink order. She promptly nodded and then walked outside of the bar area to talk to a group of her friends. Spoke with them for 5 minutes until I told her that I was fine and was just going to leave.

I'm not saying this place is terrible but the service sure was.

The outside is misleading; much nicer inside. Very comfortable, clean, and relaxing atmosphere.
I didn't really enjoy the Citric Chicken with mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach; no flavor.

Horrible customer service... greasy, soupy seafood in rice entree that should not even have a price tag. Indeed it shouldn't be served; it surely was not eaten. This was after the salad I was told twice was in its way never showed up. Talked with the manager who did not want to appear because according to his staff he was overwhelmed and in the kitchen because others had called out. Maybe he prepared the meal and he's not a usual chef. (Shrugs) He agreed he would get back to me the next day about my experience and took my name and number. Two months later and I never received a follow up (guess he felt it wasn't worth it given prior reviews). I heard so much about this place and now consistently drive by it, but will not lose another dime there. The ambience was nice, hence a star.

Crab and shrimp were delicious! Half of my beef was too tough to chew!

Usually the food is pretty good, but for Thanksgiving the food was undercooked. Two of my family members came down with digestive problems after eating there that night. Probably be best to stick to their made to order food, which is excellent.

Good food but great desserts. Esp the Smith Island layered cake!

Matthews is the perfect spot for a great meal with a friend or a family dinner. Most recently was actually for a quick drink at the bar with a buddy this past weekend and we felt very welcomed by the bartenders. Needless to say one turned into 2, 2 into 3 so we ended up getting 2 rounds of some delicious hot wings, spicy fried green beans, and chatting it up like crazy with the cool guys behind the bar before splitting an awesome full rack of ribs with fries that came out in no time at all! Any time I've gone for whatever occasion, it is a nice enough experience that I wanted to write a review for the place! SOOO GOOD!

Seafood gumbo, southern citrus chicken w mashed potatoes n sauted spinach followed by lemon cream cake. Great food, great service!

Went to Matthew's 1600 for the first time last night and have a wonderful experience! The food was amazing the atmosphere was welcoming and the service was great. Had an excellent pasta seafood dish and the waiter made me feel as if we had been friends for years. Highly recommend!!

Just wow! The softshell crab with mash is fried to perfection.

We were visiting family in Maryland & this place was suggested. The food & service was exceptional! We will visit this establishment again when in Maryland.

Wheelchair accessible, nice place to hangout and drink and eat great snacks.

To start off, Matthew 1600 does have a great atmosphere however, the staff is very rude and not considerate. When we asked questions about the menu or server treated us like we were idiots. When they brought waters to our table she spilled water on me and the menus and proceeded to do nothing to clean up the spill.
The food was bland, over priced and not fresh. For the prices you pay you should be getting freshly cooked ingredients, not frozen. I ordered a pesto pasta that was $26 and the sauce was watery and the pasta was over cooked. My wife ordered a salmon filet with asparagus. The asparagus was pale green in color and soggy to the touch. (Not Fresh)

Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant, and would not consider going back.

Very nice restaurant, outstanding dishes. The pot roast sandwich is great. Bartenders are skilled and prices are reasonable.

Matthews 1600 is one of my favorite restaurants in Catonsville! Every time I eat there I have such an amazing experience! The atmosphere is friendly and fun and the staff is always so pleasant and helpful! The last time I went there my server was so attentive I didnt have to ask for a refill once. Also their desserts are so good! I reccomend the chambord cheesecake or smith island cake! Yum!

An amazinge venue for our annual Audrey Herman Celebration. The staff were amazing, the food was delicious, and all the guests loved the event!
Convenient on site parking... Even better!

Service this evening was very slow... Food was well above average... Will give them another chance on the service, everyone has an off day on occasion

I was attending a Birthday Luncheon . Everything was "Great "

OMG first time and last time, met with friends and family. The fellowship with friends was better then the food. We paid $57.00 per person for buffet style meal, very very disappointed the Annapolis Chesapeake sauce was watered down and had not taste whatsoever and the string beans was terrible. The only thing that was good was the meatballs and the salad. I paid $100.00 for my mother and I, was not worth $100.00. I do not recommend anyone going here. If it was not for my Family coming up from Atlanta, we would have walked out.

Great food, great service. CALL AHEAD make sure they are serving normal menu as they have times where they serve only specials an some people get very mad about this.

I have come here from the beginning however, the food has dropped. Service was ok. I asked my waitress for silverware.........she brought the silverware but dropped them on the table. Thanks for your service!

I had the FILET OSCAR for brunch. The filet melted in my mouth. It was delicious.

First timer (2-9-19) Very good food and ambiance. My wife and i are in that area from Pittsburgh at least 2-3 times a year. Looks like we may have found our dinner spot. ; ) The crab cake and meatball spaghetti were delicious.

I think that the price increase is a bit excessive even the menu are high along with the happy hour drinks tap beer was. 2 00 now 2 50 and 300 of happy HR with the crowd that goes there it was unnecessary

We had the pleasure of being served by Justin last night. We had a to go order and since we were early, we decided to sit at the bar and wait.
Justin knew everyone at the bar. He attentive and made sure his service tickets and patrons were taken cared. He is friendly, thoughtful and kind.
I would recommend Matthews for a nice evening. Food is good as well. Thank you Justin!

There are many fine dining places in my town but Matthews is my restaurant of choice.

You get what you pay for. Good food. Decent drink selection. Gorgeous atmosphere.

Even the manager couldn't provide me with kitchen hours when I was sent to pick up a delivery. This is one of those places that relies on it's nice looking facade to cover the rude and completely indifferent staff...much like attractive people who think that their good looks cover the fact that they have no real personality and are, fundamentally, unlikable people.

Not impressed with the service. Had to ask for menus, our check 2 times and also a take home box twice. Probably wouldn't return.

No matter what your taste they have lots of choices plus daily specials including drinks.

I like their salads and sandwiches. Nice upscale place for lunch or dinner.

This was my 2nd visit to Matthew's 1600. We had to wait 35 minutes on a Thursday night to be seated. Was a wait but hostess did inform us of wait as soon as we arrived and this was greatly appreciated. Waited 20 minutes after being seated and finally asked a passing waitress for help. She says "oh, I didn't realize you were sitting there". Really, you've passed our table 5 times! She took our order. 30 minutes later, no appetizer. Asked passing waiter, he got it. Waited 30 minutes, asked same waiter for dinner. He got it. Waitress shows up to refill drinks, comes back with incorrect drinks. I ask her for check. Wait 30 minutes, get up and ask hostess for bill. Hostess asks Waitress and she gets it and gives it to Hostess to deliver to table!!! The Waitress was rude, hostile, unprofessional and incompetent!!! I complained to management and was told I would get a call from the owner, NOTHING!!! Food was adequate, service HORRIBLE! Will not be returning and will be letting everyone I know about my horrible experience and lack of response from management and owner

Matthew's 1600 never disappoints. The food is traditional American and yet interrestingly prepared . The service is prompt and curtious . Highly recommend them for a comfortable night out with friends.

Went for brunch, ordered an omelette. The omelette was covered in oil - couldn t taste anything but the oil. Food was barely warm - won t be back.

Service is good but the food is just ok. The quality is much better than bar food but does not meet the quality of other similar style restaurants near by. The highest priced item, from what I recall is ~$25.

Matthew's 1600 is a decent enough bar. (I've never eaten there in it's restaurant capacity.) The food is okay, American pub food. Buffalo wings could be spicier. It gets the job done, but nothing that I'm like - I NEED to eat there again. A good selection of local beers on tap. The bartenders are always really friendly. Roomy, plenty of seating, upscale panelled wood decor. There are several TV's tuned to local sports, but most of the customers aren't really watching them. If possible, I'd give it a 3.5, but it falls just short of a 4 for me. There are certainly worse places to spend an evening drinking.

Some of the consistantly best food around. The last place I can get a steak cooked at true medium. Always a treat!

Not too good this time. Shrimp salad was pretty tasteless and shrimp were small. Will try again. Food is usually better.

Pros: plenty of free parking, friendly staff
Cons: waited long for very generic dinner type food, and price is a little steep.

My wife and I were searching for a reasonably priced, but yet still very special and more upscale dining experience. We were absolutely delighted to have stumbled upon Matthew's 1600!! Excellent beverage selection, pleasant and knowledgeable waitstaff, and delicious, fine cuisine!!

I ate at Matthew's 1600 for lunch this week for a birthday celebration. I was looking forward to the event as I have enjoyed my previous visits in the past. Upon arrival I was ignored by the hostess staff which I over looked as I did note there was a help wanted sign on the marquee out front. Once I was seated the group I was with waited for the guest of honor to arrive, and then waited and waited and waited for a server. Finally someone from our party had to retrieve help. The food took a great deal of time to come, again I overlooked this as we were a larger party, eight. My sandwich was rather bland, I again overlooked this concluding I had made a bad selection. When the meal was concluded no one ever came to clear our dishes away we had to pile them at the end of the table. Like I said our party was there for a birthday, a larger group, I can understand standard gratuity automatically tacked on to the bill, not a problem, BUT an additional charge per person because we brought a homemade birthday cake. There were too many strikes against this restaurant for me and everyone else in my party to return. Be aware if you eat here you might have extra charges on your bill and you might have to be your own server.

The meals and service were above our expectations. I surely loved the ambience of this place. Amazing restaurant to take my family out for lunch.

Attended a function held here and the buffet provided was outstanding. They have great parking and excellent facilities.
