Food is generally pretty good and portion sizes are appropriate. Last time I went I had the Maui mahi-mahi which was good but the rice pilaf and the broccoli were rather flavorless. Our first waitress was Olivia and she was great my son loved her and got along great with her. But then shift change came and we were not notified about shift change and suddenly we just had another server who never introduced herself or anything so we were left rather confused and feeling bad that we hadn't tipped Olivia out and were no longer able to. Other than that though it was a good experience, the restaurant feels clean and that they're doing everything properly for coronavirus so I commend them for that for sure.

I would expect better for the price that you pay. I ordered the NY Strip special. Asked for Medium and got well done. All I could taste was the char. Our waitress was more interested with hanging with he friends up front instead of doing her job. We definitely won't be back.

Other than a delicious food wonderful service I ordered unsweetened tea as I have been a diabetic since the age of 11 on an insulin pump and had two glasses
. Ended up severely ill with a 600 blood sugar after lunch at the airport luckily I caught it and was able to bolus extra insulin but it took hours to bring it down positive the tea if not the first class II have sugar in it it's important to know it's not a minor error

This is probably the best overall restaurant in Catonsville. The food is pretty good, the atmosphere is relaxing, and I've never had to wait for a table. There's a good bar and the staff is very friendly. When you to sit down and get a nice variety of food without paying too much, this is the place.

Food is decent, not amazing; serving sizes are normal. Service is slightly better than decent. They do have great beer and wine selection. Their bar area seems to always be busy, especially when there is a game on.

Great food selection! Delicious American Fare and seafood options! It's not very family friendly though! There aren't any changing stations in the bathrooms and they don't have a separate kids menu. However, they DO have appetizers that are kid friendly (chicken tenders, waffle fries, etc), and we've brought small toys, coloring books, and crayons for our girls! Otherwise the staff are very friendly to small kids and accommodate them with the selections they have. :-)

This has got to be one of the worst restaurants in the area. I ve eaten here several times - the food is unimaginative and profoundly mediocre AT BEST and epitomizes Catonsville s culinary wasteland: no matter how bad the food is, people in this area will eat it. Can t understand why anyone would go there.

I have eaten here many times, over the past few years. It's a little pricier than Jenning's Cafe, down the road, which compare as opposite styles of American casual restaurant or diner, but for that extra money you get more formal decor and service, following a much more rigid script, and even classic dishes "Mamma use to make", like meatloaf with a mushroom gravy, will have less a flavor of "Mamma" and more a taste of the red wine that exposes some French legacy in their recipes. The potato dumpling gnocchi is a rich and filling way to avoid meat, the meatloaf was alright, to add variety over one with simpler dressing, and the pot roast / roast beef based dishes are delicious, though you shouldn't lie down afterward, for fear of some ferocious heartburn, since they obviously don't removed any of the tallow, and instead incorporate it into the gravy.

I am here to re-review this restaurant, because as I had previously never had a bad meal here, and always enjoyed how late they are open and how well I was treated, tonight was finally a moment where I saw them slip. I didn't get a chance to read the menu in the few moments it took for decaf tea to arrive at the table, which I assume was the first bag to be grabbed, since I don't think the default of anything should be decaf, so I requested a little more time to decide what to order, and like an experience at a diner where the waitress is obvious about not wanting to be there, I was left alone for about 10 minutes. I wasn't annoyed or in any kind of a rush, but I actually forgot that I was waiting to order, because it had been so long, so the waiter caught me by surprised when he finally turned up. I'll say right now that it feels like a punishment when you don't spit out an immediately order after a 30 second drink run, so you are given 10 minutes to hang out, even though the place isn't packed. It all came out in the wash, because another waiter was happy to exchange the tea bag before my water was cold, and the bartender asked me if I needed anything, as if to emphasis that they care, as an organization, that the customer is happy. I didn't need anything, so I thanked him, and sat down.

I wouldn't have taken the time to rewrite the review, especially since the waiter treated me professionally for the rest of the meal, but I decided to order fried chicken breast with a lemon and butter gravy, mashed potatoes, and spinach, which looked delicious, but oddly not filleted. I can understand that some people may want an entire, inch thick half-breast of chicken, but in such cases, as in every case, the breaded chicken should be free of grizzle, and this chicken wasn't trimmed well, so there was a web of tough fat that ended up on my plate. If they hadn't always hit the ball out of the park on their other food, on so many other visits, over the years, I would have risked sending it back, but once you start sending food back, you open the door to all sorts of other problems I am not going to get into, and very rarely have I seen it help, in the end. Their track record speaks for itself, so I'll be back, but I'll never order that chicken again.

One finally comment will be that the atmosphere is one that the patrons are aware of, and seem to help preserve, so I have never had to eat around shouting people in this place. If I was trying to bring someone on a date, and didn't think it was appropriate to take them to fast food restaurant or a saw-dust on the floor cowboy bar, it would either be this place or one of the better Indian restaurants, because it is more of a value than Catonsville Gourmet, for decent enough food and experience, and still retains its sense of being more of a gourmet restaurant than most places with diner in the name.

My retirement group made reservations for our luncheon back in October for today 12/14/18,seems like the date was never listed in there schedule. So when our group arrived ,we were given a space that was already booked for 2pm our time was 12 until 2PM, but we had to be out by 1:30,as a result we did not stay .to be rushed with our meal.never again for this place for me

Great restaurant. Went for 1st time tonight, after just moving to Catonsville, greeted by friendly hosts, given large drink selection of good draft beers and wines, and the menu has everything. Seriously, the menu had it all, a lot of good small plates and lunches as well as alot of big dinner entrees. I got the surf and turf, steak filet and crab cake, it was awesome. Really warm atmosphere and staff, will def be back to check out the bar and return for family dinners, and dates with my wife.

I went to this restaurant a few weeks ago, with my father. This is one of his favorite restaurants in the Catonsville area. My dad is 81 years old and a restaurant connoisseur, if you ask me I'd say he's a professional. This is one of his favorite restaurant in that area and I have been with him already three times to that restaurant within the past 2 weeks. This restaurant is classy and has all different types of food. What I really enjoyed the most is almost every time there wasn't many people in the restaurant. The employee's / wait staff were they able to seat us and everyone else so we were far away from anybody else. I have an autoimmune disorder, so ever since covid-19 started I have not been anywhere, I went out to eat outside oh, for my 40th birthday in June. But other than that I have not felt comfortable to go anywhere else, probably because of the way everything was handled at that outside restaurant in June, I was majorly displeased and scared. You have to try this restaurant even if you don't live in the area it is definitely worth it to make a special trip 2 View and eat at this five star lovely restaurant. I can't say this enough I recommend this restaurant more than I probably ever recommended any other restaurant before. The main reason being how everything is handled because of covid-19, I think a lot of other restaurants / any other business should take a lesson from This special restaurant. It is truly a delight, a delicacy and exceptional food as well as service. If I could give them a hundred thousand stars I would, a plus plus.

Very nice place to go out and eat. They have seating in both indoors and outdoors. They have a variety of popular mixed drinks and a variety of menu items. The crab egg rolls and crab pretzel are delicious. My friend had what he called one of the best Rueben's he's ever had. They serve their breakfast menu all day. The waiters and waitresses were very pleasant. The overall atmosphere was enjoyable. Will definitely be going back. Maybe sometime this week even.

My son and I visited Matthew's 1600 for the first time and it was absolutely delightful and the food was delicious. The dining experience was exceptional. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is beautiful and the ambience has a down home feel to it. Just from my personal experience, l rate it a five star restaurant. Keep up the good work.

Service was great. Food portion was small for the price. I bought the best and was disappointed on the size. Crab cake small, 4 shrimp, half a piece of fish over 4 spoons of rice. Wife got pasta and it was better and a little cheaper. To over priced. To many other places to go and spend half the cost.

I only come here for our business meetings and each time I've ordered their Benton Box, it comes with a crab cake, mashed potatoes, shrimp gumbo, side of salad and dessert. I never finish it all. Each selection is ab-so-lute-ly delicious, at our next meeting I may try something different......maybe

This is the second year in a row that my wife and I celebrated Thanksgiving at Matthews 1600. Due to coronavirus they had to change things from last year when they had a buffet style set up. Even though everyone would prefer buffet style eatting, the quility of the food was so off the chart good that the wait and the service was well worth the wait. The young lady that served us along with the bus young men, did a hell of a job making sure that myself and my wife and guest were treated very much like family.
From my heart, I thank the whole staff at
Matthew s 1600 for there hospitality.
I am the one wearing the hat.

I was invited here for a business luncheon and the food, atmosphere, customer service and our waitress were amazing. Ironically we all ordered the Benton Box. It comes with a crab cake, mashed potatoes, salad, gumbo with crackers, a brownie and a chocolate chip cookie. I was not able to eat it all even though I didnt eat any of the complementary biscuits, which looked delicious lol. I will definitely return.
