Shame Shame Shame on who ever planned this hospi...

Shame Shame Shame on who ever planned this hospital. My friend had a double valve replacement and ended up with a trach. They will not take care of anyone with a trach. You will be sent hundreds of miles away from your family and friends , just when you need them the most. The old hospital took care of these people. The surrounding community is supporting this hospital and deserve better. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A WHOLE VACENT FLOOR THAT could be used for these patients but isn't. The new CEO Garfield Athinson should do something about this issue. I hope all the families out there that have had family members sent hundreds of miles away will contact Mr Atchinson and let him know this is unacceptable it could happen to you so please speak up. Mr Atchinson is from this area so please do something about this problem.

Second worst hospital for bedside care in the U.P....

Second worst hospital for bedside care in the U.P. The nurses don't care about the care or comfort of the patients and they are just another U.P. hospital that thinks everyone is pill seeking even when they've just had an appendage amputated. They left an IV hanging half way out of my sister's arm for more than an hour until she was in so much pain she had to pull it the rest of the way out herself. In 4 days they fed her 3 times...not 3 times per day, 3 times total. They intentionally withheld pain meds from an amputee because they said she was "pill seeking"...are you serious? This place is horrendous and I wouldn't even drop my neighbor's dog off there. The only place I've seen worse up here is OSF in Escanaba.

Election Day 2020. Been sitting in Heart & Vascular waiting room for 1 hour and have 2 more hours to wait. Asked if TV channel could be put on news & was told no. Maybe the girl at the desk should catch up on her HGTV when she's not working.

No one answers the phone anywhere. When it connects after a 10 minute wait you often get cutoff. 3 week wait for an MRI and so far 8 days waiting for central scheduling to call back despite numerous requests where you can only leave a call beck number. And oh yeah, they don't call back. I think they are in cahoots with the funeral parlors, or else should invest in them. What a joke for a hospital.

I was admitted for two days over Christmas. The care I received from ER to the resident medicine team while I was admitted was outstanding. The physicians, nurses, care aides, lab techs, dietary services and everyone else I interacted with were incredibly kind-hearted, intelligent and respectful. It was a miserable experience, but I felt well cared for and would recommend MGH to anyone after the experience I had. That being said.. I hope I'm never back.

There is not even enough words to describe how terrible this "Health System" experience has been. It took them over a year and a half to get me a DESPERATELY NEEDED CPAP. Constantly forgetting paperwork, forgetting to make calls, any paperwork transfers I had to babysit then to make sure it wasn't lost (Happened MULTIPLE times). Misdiagnoses, unnecessary tests up the wazoo, and just a horrid time that pushed me to the edge of a lawsuit. Terrible. Horrible. STAY AWAY. Homeopathy is better than this.

I have been here in the past and always had great care. However this time I was made to feel so unimportant and dismissed I actually checked myself out . And considering I was in for heart related issues I was very disappointed. I am aware I checked myself out , but they couldnt give me any discharge instructions or anything!!!! Do I take it easy? Do I go to work? What?

They straight up denied my wife health care because she has anxiety about being alone in an emergency room and wanted me back with her. They said that it s more important that we deal with COVID patients than worry about my wife who had a real medical emergency. Their priorities are truly political first, patient care second.

My current visit to the ED was not as expected. First, they made me wait for an hour before they took me back. I was in major pain with A huge kidney stone. By the time they actually got me to a room in the ED my pain was really out of control. Took them another 45 minute to get it somewhat under control. The old MGH would of never made you wait that long. Plus there wasn t but 3 people waiting. Terrible! And I hope I never have to go back. Once they got me into a room because I had to stay over night and have surgery, the RN was great, her name was Mikayla and the students were awesome too! My daytime nurse was Brittany and she was amazing too! The OR staff was very comforting also. The only bad thing I came across was the waiting room and how long I had to wait for pain meds. Other than that every the ED doctor and the nurse Justin was great!!,

I had a hip replacement there. Everything was perfect. The food was excellent. Dr. and nurses managed my pain. The nurses class they gave before the procedure was extremely helpful. My room had an excellent view. I was able to park in the sheltered area adjacent to the door. I can't praise this place enough. It took me 8 months to pay off the copay and they were reasonable about it.

I would NOT come back to this hospital. My dad had surgery for a broken hip. He laid in bed getting weaker and weaker. They thought 10 minutes of PT was enough for a day. That is uncalled for. The nurses were so busy they couldn't give my dad the care he needed. If I had another option I would not have had him go there. I dont believe in suing but I would definitely have a case with what went on. It's sad.

i had a seizure on mid nov , had GREAT care while in and great followup, but when it came time to fill out my forms for short term disability for my employer, well , my forms are still not filled out and i run the risk of not getting payed and getting my insurance dropped from from my employer ! my HR is on me to get the DR. to send in the forms why i can't work , so as far as they are concerned , I'm absent from work for no reason, while after my seizure the Doc's said i can't drive for six months and can't work around any big machinery for six months, but as far as my employer and my short term disabilty insurance company knows I'm just not showing up for work,therefor its just a mater of time before i get terminated very shortly! i've been in contact with the doc's office and they keep telling they are to busy! They need more help! PLEASE HELP!! I shouldn't have to do this but is no other way that i see. The Doc's and nurses get a 5star rating but the paper work end stinks, and might cost me my job of 30yrs . find out shortly! Well the company did terminate me, but not because of paperwork, finally got paperwork done, and now marquette is a different health company, and everything works out for a reason:}

Tasha from speech is the worst! She changes her story as it suits her own needs. She ignores patient needs and care. When paged she does not respond. She appears spiteful in her actions. She is sure to cover herself from the various stories she tells others. Sadly the patient suffers and there is no one else. She's it! Good luck if you are in the unfortunate position of dealing with her!

I recently had emergency sugery at this hospital and stayed for 5 days. I received quality care from all staff. They took great care of me and treated me like family. There were many kind nurses that their names escape me but i do remember nurse Olivia in ICU that really stuck out to me - so kind, compassionate, intelligent, and caring and i wanted to express my appreciation for her and all the other staff there!

So many people complain about this hospital but one thing i noticed is that they appear to be under staffed. They are running around like chickens with their heads cut off doing their best. Nurses are either on 12 or 16 hour shifts which is rather crazy because no human can possible perform quality working so many hours in a row never mind work that affects the livelihood of patients. Perhaps the people that complain need to practice empathy n realize doctors and nurses are simply humans saving lives n they are doing the best they can do!

Once again, thank you for saving my life

Had to get stitches a few weeks ago and they billed me 2.3k. I ve been getting stitches my whole life and this was the least injured I ve been, the wounds just needed cleaning. Only needed 6 stitches. The PA was very unfriendly and didn t clean the wound well enough. It needed to get cleaned again recently. Glad I could help pay for the new Hospital. I received more stitches at the old hospital years ago and it was a fraction of the price. Unacceptable.

I went in for what turned out to be more than simple stomach pains. I hadn't had a bowel movement in over 3 days. Because I've had a rune-y bariatric surgery @ 9 years ago, and had to have emergency surgery in Green Bay last year to repair a rupture in my pouch, I went to the ER. Btw, I live in Ishpeming, less than 1 mile from Bell, no way I was going there !
Dr. Edwards told me that my appendix needed to come out. He did the surgery, no problems, however, I still did not move my bowels. I was admitted because I also had pneumonia. My pain continued. Dr. Edwards was on call but would not come in.
After I began vomiting bile and still was unable to go to the bathroom, Dr. Herrera was called. She performed surgery to clear a blockage and repair a hernia in my abdomen. She is a rock star ! Edwards ? The reason for 4, not 5, stars,
The room was excellent. The nurses were attentive and compassionate. The food was fair, as good as possible under the conditions of cafeteria cooking. Even the janitors, security, and maintenance personnel were friendly and asked how I was doing. I have no complaints.
I've received my bill and had a very pleasant conversation with billing. They're working with me and within my budget, unlike Bell. I will be back.

I don't care how sick you are, FIND ANYWHERE else ...

I don't care how sick you are, FIND ANYWHERE else to go. I went to the ER to get some anti nausea meds and talk to a DR. SHIPKEY who is an arrogant, pompous, useless excuse of a physician. His nurses tried shoving IV and drugs in me before i could even talk to this rookie doctor. i.e. They PAD the bill as much as they can. Finally SHIPKEY (my new nickname for him has T in it) like he was telling a joke that "the costs are going to be astronomical" I told him I only had Medicaid and needed to know how much I would have to pay for Nauzene tablets (which I got at wal mart for $5) I refused any medical attention and still got a bill for $529.06. "Loretta" said just to walk in costs that.

This country is going to hell in a hand basket because of hospitals like this, doctors like DR. SHIPKEY, and medical billers like "Loretta" who actually made me sicker. So if you ever get sick, make sure you can get to Canada on "vacation" or England or France, or even Costa Rica a third world country has better medical care than the USA, so F'n sad.

This is the 3rd time I ve had to stay here during my pregnancy but to finally deliver my baby and have had a great experience with the family birthing unit so far. Sometimes it can be hit or miss with nurses but I know they are so busy but Kelsey the RN is by far one of the best I ve had and always was so quick to help during 2 of my stays. She really goes above and beyond to help in anyway.

I rated the old ER 5 star but after one new ER attending refused to get a hold of the right person to refill my 81yr old dad's pain pill(whose kidney by the way was removed). Saturday: Doc: 'We can't, take it to the legislators. (Picture a wounded elderly reaching out to the very facility that cut your loved one open in agony). He needs to be evaluated here." I thought when you cut someone for any reason, you'd have a clue when the wound stops hurting and why would he need evaluated through an ER due to pills only covering two days without telling the patient :FYI, you'll need to walk or drive to the ER if you run out of pill. It's legislated you have to be evaluated.
Me: What if we're out of town. His doctor can't help him for relief?
Doc: No, that's why there are ambulances.
Me:?????? What a racket.
I'd like to just apply the Golden rule:
They'll come to my weekday pasta shop and I'll have them come back for the sauce on Monday as they happen to order the pasta on Friday. What a service. It would be very unforgettable, right Doc Perez?

Duke life point is the biggest joke imaginable... They have zero interest in patients or employees. The only reason they are able to keep operating at any level is because, for the most part, there are people that have managed to stay employed that actually care... If it was for these people Duke life point would be just another bankrupt name that everyone would be glad to see gone. You're business model and ethics are pathetic and you should be ashamed of yourself... I gave a 1 star Review only because a negative wasn't an option.

New building same old habits. Mom couldn't even get a cup of tea at night or water on 6th floor.. So I brought my wife in to the ER in extreme pain ...

So I brought my wife in to the ER in extreme pain from a stomach abscess. The registration person and the triage nurse were a joke and rude. We sat in the waiting room over 2 hours while she was in tears and her abscess was leaking. When they finally called her back I will admit the Nurse Amanda and Dr Dave were fantastic. They lanced it and packed it and she was told to return to the ER for repacking on the following day. She did that with no problem, then was told to come back Saturday to get it checked again. So here we are sitting in a room 3 hours and every time a nurse heads towards the door they turn around and leave. I have to admit this is ridiculous and if they are sooo busy why tell her to come back why not send her to wound care or her primary.

I'm only giving this a 1 because the nurses and aides were very nice and tried their best and they would be getting at least a 3 or 4 from me, otherwise I would have given this experience a negative 5 rating. The doctors and others that control what the nurses can and cannot do are incompetent, uncaring and difficult to deal with. My dad was transferred from a smaller hospital via ambulance because he had been in severe pain and vomiting for over 5 days and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. His intake was horrible and they were very rude when we asked questions or requested something. The procedure he needed was done within 24 hrs and he was relieved to finally have a diagnosis and treatment plan, but then the hospitalist on the floor failed to order the meds for 28 hours - and he still forgot to order them after we had asked him about it twice! My dad suffered unnecessarily during that time and it required an additional 2 day stay and all anyone did was say 'I'm sorry' rather than fixing the problem and doing what needed to be done. It took complaining to the highest level we could get a hold of to get someone to take action, and then the next day they all pretended like nothing had ever happened and seemed to think we should thank them for my dad finally feeling better. I am writing this review in hopes that the hospital will find the root cause and fix it so that other patients don't have to suffer for the same unnecessary reasons. And the pharmacy is the slowest I have ever seen in fulfilling med orders, and we have been in 7 hospitals in 5 cities over the last 2 years. I even overheard the man next door had been waiting for 2 meds since yesterday. I hope with the new CEO can turn things around so the people in the UP have a reliable hospital to serve their needs.

For a brand new hospital the design is the worst. I really don't know what they were thinking. If you are disabled and have mobility challenges, the doors for all the offices I've seen are there big heavy manual doors. My wife has to use a wheelchair often and there is no way you can open one of those doors without great difficulty by yourself. I imagine it would be just as bad for someone with crutches. I really don't have a problem with the staff but if the hospital made some changes 'i.e. Lighter doors, automatic doors, wheelchair accessible bathrooms' I would probably be able to give this place a solid 4* but until then it is terrible.

I want to share that all the residents of Marquette are very blessed people. The hospital was outstanding in its compassionate, superior care. The facility is beautiful, but it's the staff that makes it great. Dr Amadeo Sturla, in the ED, explained my husband's condition, risks and was willing to answer all of our questions. He had great bedside manner and walked us through what he was thinking and what he would likely do next. Kat, Nick and Troy were the RNs on the floor. They were helpful, cooperative and informative. Besides that, they were just nice people.
Pam, the LPN , also provided excellent care. Dr Budloo took over my husband's care once he was admitted. He's a knowledgeable caring physician who helped us so much. I can't tell you how grateful we were for the care we received. We were here on vacation. If we lived in Marquette we wouldn't hesitate to use Dr. Budloo as our physician.
Lastly we want to thank all the staff for their concern and care. What a wonderful environment they created and we're so personable. If I could give 10 stars I would.

We took my daughter for surgery today. We were there an hout before her scheduled appointment as we live three hours away. Her surgery was scheduled for 7:45 am, they came and got her a few minutes before 11:00. The surgery went quickly but they lost her in transit. When we got back to the room she was supposed to be in, there was blood on the floor, pop cans left on the table, both garbages full, TV on and no daughter. I went out to the nurses station, they had no clue. A few minutes later my daughter showed up still loopy. It took them two hours after that to discharge her, but let her walk out with us. What hospital in the United States let's patients walk out after surgery?! The hospital is dirty and needs a visit from the CDC.

I can t call Mayo on these new issues, as I need clarification from Dr. Gencheff.

This is the best hospital I have ever been to . From the nursing staff to the doctors everyone treats you like family . We live over 7 hours away and they put 4 of us up in their hospitality area which was a blessing. The hardest thing being away from home is having a place to stay . They had free laundry , cable , a lounge to relax in with games and snacks . Our room is very homey and kept us close to our mom . If you ever get a chance to meet Laura N who works on 4th floor ICU she is the best nurse we could have asked for !

Reguarding the Emergency Dept: Unfortunately, nowa...

Reguarding the Emergency Dept: Unfortunately, nowadays you have to ask as many questions as possible. Sometimes this isn't possible when you are out of town and your wife has to take a child to the ER. My child was seen for a simple matter and was diagnosed immediately. Treatment began immediately. That should be the end of the story. However, a number of unnecessary and expensive tests were done that are not indicated as standard workup. without me present, my wife was confused and did not understand what was going on. Despite what the patient bill of rights says, having a nurse simply ask "do you have any questions" or "we're just going to do this for a test" is deemed appropriate even though it does nothing to explain why it is necessary or how it will help direct treatment. This issue is not unique to MGH. In talking to another medical professional who specialized in pediatrics he admits to seeing this happen a lot in the ER setting. So while I wasted $1000 on tests after a diagnosis and treatment was started you can avoid this by asking: what is this test for AND how will it help treatment (and how much does it cost). Thankfully, I can bear the occasional unexpected expense. While the testing done did not guide or contribute to treatment, the treatment was spot on and my kiddo is healthy.

If you take anything away from this review, remember this tip: WHAT IS IT FOR, HOW WILL IT DIRECT TREATMENT, HOW MUCH DOES IT COST. Ask it often. Put it on a sticky note and tape it to your medical card.

We are from Ypsilanti and were enjoying vacation in Grand Island when my wife was in a bicycle accident. She went to the emergency room in Munizing, and was later transferred to UP Health in Marquette for an emergency back surgery. She had first class treatment and the whole staff was amazing. The hospital is brand new and installations are top notch. It is comforting to know you can rely on excellent professionals when you have a life-threatening injury away from home. This was a very scary situation for us but I am very happy with the treatment she received.

I will never return to this hospital ever again. I've never been treated so poorly in my life. I am a nurse and at the time of going to the ED was at my monthly training for the National Guard. After hours of agonizing pain where I was told to shut up and stop making so much noise moaning in pain and that I was a drug seeker, the shifts finally changed and lo and behold I had a kidney stone.

This review is in regards to DLP Marquette Physician Practices Billing. The lady I spoke to was rude, and was very short and snippy with me. I was inquiring about a billing mistake, and was told no mistakes were made, which there definiteIy was. The office billed the wrong insurance provider. The lady refused to resend any sort of billing to my appropriate insurance, or help me correct any mistakes. I wish I could give 0 stars.

However the doctors and nurses are great and care very much about helping people. I wish I could say the same about the billing office.

I was transferred by ambulance to this hospital. I was diagnosed with colon cancer and had surgery that Saturday morning. The staff there were caring and so helpful. I only had one experience that I got upset about but, it was not that drastic that I would give them a bad review. On my board they had directions for me to walk with assist. I got up and went out to the nurses desk and inquired if I could get some ice and they told me to get it myself. That's because before I went home I needed to be more stable on my feet, but no one said that. I went walking by myself in the hallways. I told the staff there that if I needed to begin doing things on my own I had no issue with it, but that someone needed to communicate that to me and erase the note that states I am to walk with assistance. That was my only issue with them; past that a very caring and compassionate staff.

I would just like to say some of our lives don't revolve around a telephone we actually have stuff to do in life. so maybe just maybe either a. answer phone or b hire someone who will answer the phone. lived in over 20 states hands down the worst experience ever...but when the do answer phone at least there friendly.

I've heard all the negative reviews since Duke Lifepoint took over MGH, but all my experiences there have been positive. The nurses and other staff that took care of me are caring, positive, friendly and helpful. It is a shame that MGH is now a "for profit" hospital as all they seem to care about is how and when you're going to pay your bill and they don't seem to want to work with you in setting up payments like was the case in the past.

Went in about 2 months ago for a possible hip injury after a biking accident. I was told the xrays and trip would cost me around 300-400 dollars with no insurance so I went ahead with the visit. I was in a room for maybe 30minutes total, saw the doctor for two minutes (during which he was very condescending and treated me like I was trying to scam him for meds. Even though I explicitly turn down anything stronger than Tylenol) , got 4 xrays taken and was told I was fine and released.

I was told I would receive two bills total. I received the first bill a few days later. It stated my total trip cost would be $1,300 and they were charging me $400 on that bill, so I paid it. almost 30days later I received a second bill saying I still owed about $1,200. When I called to get this corrected they gave me some shady run around about how they hadn t fully applied a self pay discount on my account and we re going to apply it right then but the math they provided for how much the discount was didn t add up in anyway, and it really seemed shady like they were hoping I would just pay and not notice the overlapping charges.

Now here I am another 30 days later and I find out my doctor sent my xrays to another office for consultation WITHOUT INFORMING ME and I have received yet another $300 bill. When I called uphs they maintain they disclosed to me that there would be another consultation but that did not happen at all.

If you go here be careful of their billing department and make sure you get itemized lists of everything that is going to happen because they truly operate like a sketchy car rental company that is trying to screw people over!

I was here for a spinal fusion. The surgeon did a great job. But the staff working at the hospital nurses ECT.. We're all purposely ignoring any request made. I had to spend the night there. The nurses Hartley came to check on me or my comfort. The nurses ignored any request and were gone for hours. If I buzzed them they would come in ask what I needed, then ignore me and be gone again! I was not treated well here at all. They all seemed to be on the same track, as to just do minimal if nothing. No questions were ever answered, just avoided. To bad that good surgeons have to have a back up staff that is trained to disregard the patients. Shame on you!!

Not impressed. I ve been to the hospital three times in a year and a half. First time I had a good doc who checked my back and neck out throughly, we got some answers and he was nice. Second time, I had a kidney stone and was told after the CT that they didn t see anything...7mm x 5mm kidney stone!!! My family doc showed me! I could see it!! They just sent me home. Last time was for my back, X-rays done, sat in a room for an hour alone, no one ever checked in on me, the X-ray tech was rough and hurt me when moving me, then they just sent me home.

I am not a junkie!! I am not seeking pain meds, I just needed some help. But instead I get...no help and no answers (but the one time) and they get plenty of money. That s all it is. Get em in, empty their pockets and get them out.

I wish I could find that first doctor, he was young, but he is going to be a really good doc!!
