We stayed 4 nights here in September. Was well priced for our budget and the location was great for us. The staff were all super helpful and very friendly. The rooms aren't big by any stretch but they're very comfortable and were clean. We had a room that faced an internal area, so was minimal light coming into the room which meant it was a quiet room. The only downside for us was the charge for the WiFi and the free WiFi wasn't working our first few days.

All in all we had a great time here and I'd happily stay again.

Convenient for travel. The room is small, but did not adversely affect the living room. From the panoramic terrace you can clearly see the Empire. As we were on their honeymoon they let us find a bottle of champagne and two glasses in the room as a welcome

I asked to switch to a quieter part of the hotel because after two nights I was getting sleep deprivation even with ear plugs. They put me in a much noisier room tonight on the same side of the hotel. Look elsewhere.

The Marcel at Gramercy is a very nice and clean area to stay, and it's where I'm staying right now. Their workers are kind and helpful to their customer I would recommend anyone who is looking for a hotel to stay in.

Location is great. Away from all the crowds. The rooms are very small but nice. Beds are super comfotable. There's an outdoor roof terrace that's really cool. Staff is great. I would recommend staying at this hotel.

We stayed here for 5 days. The location is great. The room was well appointed but very very small. There is a desk which you need to sit on the end of the bed to use. My wife slept on the far side and the first two nights she kept stumbling into the desk in the middle of the night. The bathroom was also well appointed but also very small.

I realize that for the location, you can't expect a lot of space, but at the price point and star level, I expect to at least be able to comfortably walk around the bed!

That said, the staff and front desk we're fantastic - almost enough to bring my review up to 5 stars. Unfortunately, there are few amenities in the hotel. There is a business center and a lounge, with terrace on the 10th floor and another lounge in the lobby. No fitness center or pool. (It must be said that other similar hotels we've stayed at in Manhattan have tiny pools that almost shouldn't count!)

There is, theoretically, free coffee in the upstairs lounge but it was out of order every time I tried to use it. Also, there is a breakfast buffet for $15, but we never used it. There are way better options for $15 in this part of Manhattan.

Overall we we're happy with the hotel and would consider staying there again - mainly because all of the staff were awesome.

The property has a great location on East 24th Street, to get an idea you have a view of the Empire State Building and the Flatiron, from there you can go where you want the famous 5th Avenue, Brodway Avenue, Central Park, Rockefeller Center. Also on the 10th floor a room with a terrace to have breakfast, make coffee, a cappuccino, a tea, there is a microwave oven and a container with water, ice and lemon always available. The room has iron, hair dryer and laundry service. I recommend this hotel if you fancy a trip to NY and want to stay in Manhattan. The staff is friendly, helpful and ready to meet all your requests, good. Surely we will meet again.

Very clear the rooms in New York winter, exceeded $ 300 for two nights. They gave us a room with a view to the air drawer of the building, the bathroom was with a coarse nylon curtain and some refrigerator products, expired. We went to bed dressed for fear that the bed was not clean. They charge $ 12 for a breakfast consisting of coffee, croissant and hard-boiled egg. If it has not improved, it would be the last place where it would be lodged. One thing is the rooms when you book online and quite another when you get there. Watch out!

I will never ever ever in my life stray at this place. House keeping will steal anything that's left behind. I left my cocktail ring on the sink after washing my hands and forgot to put it back on. I called back to have them mail it back to my home in New Jersey and they said they will check and never returned my phone call, I have been trying to call and now no answer, nothing. It's not worth it. Not even a penny worth. Book your stay somewhere else.

I scored a room for $130 with taxes and fees included and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of space the room had to it. Two double beds and enough room to be able to move around without hassle. The great quality soaps and shower were both fantastic after a searing hot day walking around Manhattan. Everyone on staff I spoke to was very polite and helpful.

Their coffee/tea setup is amazing and its all-day access for free. The rooftop seating area was lovely, I'm disappointed it wasn't open later into the evening though so we could enjoy it longer. They have ashtrays up there too which is a huge deal to me as a smoker, because most rooftop bars I've been to won't let you smoke.

Price / offer: Very good. Attentive staff. Room small and clean. Location central. The rooftop terrace overlooking the Empire State Building is fantastic. Who likes it quiet, should order a room to the yard. Chargeable parking garage directly opposite the hotel entrance. The breakfast is really superfluous.

It was alright, but I probably won't actually stay there again. We checked in on a Friday night; the guy at the front desk was superb. He was welcoming and just an awesome guy. Once we got to our room, the room was super small...I mean tiny. The toilet was literally the smallest toilet I've seen in a hotel room. We've stayed in hotels in Paris and Madrid, and whilst European rooms are known to be small, this was perhaps a similar size to some Parisian hotels, but even smaller than the ones we stayed in. The hotel does not have a gym, and although we were first told that the wifi, the bottles of water in the room, the tea/coffee were all complementary, they were not. We paid $22 to cover those things at checkout, so beware. We went upstairs (to the 10th floor) for said tea/coffee btw, and there wasn't any, although the $22 was supposed to cover it. I wouldn't say we had a horrible experience, because we did not, but it really wasn't the greatest either. Also, the cleaning staff were pushy. We had them knock on our door at least twice for the morning, before check out, asking about cleaning the room. I mean if check out is at 12, then why are you knocking down the door?

The hotel is a bit dated. It definitely looks nice on the pictures but I'd say they had a good photographer. Some rooms are tiny but I got a larger one after mentioning to them that I can't even open my suitcase because the room is so tiny. I personally prefer the freehand hotel around the corner where I stayed last time I was in NYC.

They were unable to accommodate a person with disabilities and refused to let me out of my reservation. Horrible attitude. If you are compassionate about people with disabilities boycott this hotel.

We had a perfectly fine stay here. Next time I think I'll go with a place with normal size rooms (this place is hardly larger than the bed), a coffee maker and microwave in the room. I was sick while I was here and not having these things made it a bit more difficult than it had to be.

We've stayed at this property multiple times, and we were happy with it. The rooms are a bit on the small side, but that doesn't bother us, since we're just using it as a place to sleep and shower. The guest terrace on the 10th floor has nice views, and would be enjoyable on a mild evening; but, it would be better if they had a bar. If you need an adult beverage, there is a nice craft beer place in the next block called the Tap Room.
Our last visit to the Marcel, was not to the standards of our previous visits. The room was an extremely odd configuration that had the AC unit in a little alcove. The problem with that is that the unit was only cooling the alcove, while the rest of the room stayed warm. It was so cold in that little area, there was condensation on the unit. We were so miserably hot, that we slept on top of the sheets, and would occasionally get up to go stand by the AC to cool off.
I'm giving 3 stars because our other visits were good, but it gets minus points for this one room. They seriously shouldn't give this room to guests during the summer. If you get room x17 on your floor, ask for another one.

The hotel has an excellent location and with a subway station 3 blocks away. The attention of the staff is really remarkable. From the rooftop of the hotel you have a great view of the Empire State Building.

The hotel is well located and not very noisy, something good in NYC. The terrace above is very good, with views and others and invite you to coffee. That is the good thing. The least good, the somewhat old rooms, vintage bathroom and the breakfast that they call continental but that is not continental or anything that resembles it, they should give it to you too.

I travel to New York on a regular basis for Business and leisure, and stayed here for the first time at the end of August. The hotel is close to the transit system, clean and well kept rooms, polished and polite staff, a romantic view of the city from the roof top and lots of great restaurants surround the area.

I stayed at the Marcel over this summer and it was a fantastic experience. From its prime location with a beautiful rooftop view, amazing rooms and fantastic staff I look forward to staying here again. Mike.. well hes the man! He knew everything about the city and was extremely helpful, he even set up a luxurious SUV ride for me to get back to airport. So look for him when you check in!

Extremely small boutique hotel with very little amenities. $10 per night/device wifi. Bathrooms are quite old and a bit rundown. Just doesn't feel clean in general. But - you get what you pay for.

Easy parking! Garage is in front of hotel and it is parked for you. Hotel employees open the front door for you as much as possible. The lobby is gorgeous. The hallways remind me of luxury apartments in Virginia. The room was beautiful and clean. I love the Zebra accents. The shower has 2 shower heads that give you a waterfall feeling when you shower. It was great. The rooftop terrace has the most amazing view of the city and the Empire State building and I recommend you visit the rooftop at night cause the city is so lit up and stunning. The staff was also very accommodating and accessible when needed. The front desk even randomly called up to my room to check on me and also sent me a personal email with the managers info to make sure that I was enjoying my stay and ensure me that if I needed anything they are there for me. I felt like a celebrity. I will NEVER stay in NY at another hotel. Marcel at the Gramercy has my heart and I thank them for an amazing birthday trip. xoxo!

My fiance and I made reservations for the Amsterdam in Times Square. About 15 minutes before check-in, I received a phone call from the hotel telling me that they had overbooked the night before and that I had been transferred to the Marcel at Gramercy. Absolutely unacceptable. All of our plans and reservations were in Times Square, which is why we selected the Amsterdam. Had I wanted to stay in Gramercy Park, I would have selected the Marcel.

Upon arrival, we were "upgraded" to a king room facing the street. We had expected to have beautiful view of the city. Instead, we got an ugly view of some alley and a terrible view of street traffic and trash. We were also given complementary "breakfast" for both mornings. Croissants and fruit are hardly a breakfast. More like a snack to tide us over until we could get a proper meal. Definitely not worth the $12.95 they were charging other guests.

The absolute inconvenience of being moved was in the transportation we had to pay for. We now how to get ourselves from Gramercy Park to Times Square on OUR dime and then back again to our sad little room the size of a postage stamp. I will say, however, the room was clean.

Also, it's 2016. Free wifi, particularly in a self proclaimed "4-Star Property" should be included. But no. We were charged $10 per device for a 24 hour period.

I'm not sure who rates hotels, but this most certainly was not a 4 -Star property. I would not recommend staying at any of the properties owned by this management company for fear of being relocated to another part of town you have no interest in being in.

I am very happy with my time at Hotel Marcel. For five days I was treated friendly and helpful by the staff. My room was adequate in size, and I found the decor tasteful as well as practical. It was always well cleaned. I liked the room on the 10th floor, where you could have breakfast, but also got free tea, coffee, and water. The roof terrace was great - a beautiful view of the city. I will definitely visit this hotel again.

Clean. Very very small room. Room needs some light maintenance, wall paper peeling off the wall. Double Bed was soft and comfortable. Staff was accommodating. Some staff could do better with waiting for a response before assuming a room is empty and entering it. Overall good experience for a quick stay

Nice, clean, compact rooms, however:
The WIFI is awful
The elevator is extremely inefficient
You can hear the water running from the room next door
They hit you with a $20/day "resort fee" at the end of your stay
