I've really been enjoying the stay here. Spacious, clean rooms and a comfortable bed. The hotel is convenient to transit and several restaurants.

I like this hotel, its clean and the staff is very nice, i would give it 5 stars but the room was very warm even after I lowered the thermostat, we woke up uncomfortable. I told the staff and they were very appologetic and they accomodated me accordingly. i would recommend.
I really enjoyed this hotel for our weekend away in NYC. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice rooftop area to hang out. I liked the style of the common areas and our deluxe room. Amazing views from the 9th floor room and 10th floor rooftop. If you like something that's not a chain hotel this is a great pick.
The room was a little small, but very nice! We had a very good time. Love the rooftop!
Great location, very convenient lounge, small rooms
We have been on this hotel twice already and would not mind to go again the next time we travel to new york. Location is centralized to most of the places we go to and few walks from a subway station. They do not have their own parking but they have a preffered parking station probably 100ft away/ 2 buildings apart, which will get discount from this hotel guest.
Rooms are typical for mid price ($100-180) range, ac is old and small size not much ammenities and even bathroom supplies are to minimum. Still like it for the location considering the price. No free breakfast too,...
Thank you for a very pleasant experience, Scott! I would highly recommend staying at this hotel. I would definitely come back.
The hotel is in a good location, quite close to the green metro line. Our room was small but clean and with a functional bathroom. The staff is courteous and professional. The only comment I can make is related to paid Wi-Fi connectivity and quite expensive. Considering that in NY it is free even in the subway they should at least reduce the price. However it remains a good Hotel. Thanks to Mohamed and Scott for the courtesy shown during our stay.
Great hotel, great location, very nice staff. Room and bathroom comfortable, great. At night, however, loud background noise in the room, do not forget earplugs ;-)
It was simply amazing! The decor, the location. It was super clean and super comfortable. One of the best in NYC.
If you can rate a hotel a zero that is what the Marcel resonates. A 10 story or more hotel with very limited bell men (in NYC BTW) so that leaves families taking their own belongings to their room. So lets talk about "the room". A "closet" for a mere $500.00 + an evening. Uneven floors, dirty, sinks that clog up instantly. Nice neighborhood with many other hotels.
From a person that travels significantly , any other venue you choose would better. A complete rip off. Embarrassing and my fault for not vetting the venue more.
The counter is kind and easy to spend. Not a luxury hotel, but facilities are solid. However, the light switch was aging and it was difficult to turn it on and it was hard to turn it off. There is oldness in that sense. There is no breakfast, but there is a lounge on the 10th floor, where you can drink coffee or tea anytime, and snacks from 4-6.
I really enjoyed my stay at The Marcel because the staff was very friendly and my room was clean with a comfy bed. The hotel offers free snacks in the afternoon and complementary coffee at the guest lounge. Everything that you need to enjoy a vacation or business trip can be found a few minutes walk from the hotel.
PROS: NO BED BUGS! Room service was reasonably priced, there are 3 parking garages close by that are inexpensive (one I paid $27 per night). Not too far from a lot of touristy stuff and the neighborhood is good to walk around in at night. Plenty of restaurants and fast food close by as well. I used this hotel because it was a lot less than others in the area and walking distance to the hospitals (NYU, Bellevue, Manhattan VA) to visit my husband who had surgery.
CONS: The room we stayed in was a little small for two people and had limited. Elevators are a little slow and small, so you may wait a few minutes before you can actually get onto one. The Continental breakfast is overpriced,,,$13 for muffins and danishes. There is a Starbucks within a block.
Friendly staff, comfortable suite, great location (good ramen around the corner)
Really cute rooms and easy access to transportation and places to eat within walking distance.
Rooms were very cozy and location was great. Some amenities like functional ac and a proper continental breakfast were lacking, but we just needed a place to stay in gramercy for a couple nights
It was about what I expected for the price. Rooms were tidy and well kept, but beware they're definitely on the smaller end! Also, the shower in our room didn't have the curtain reaching the lip of the molding, so whenever you take a shower water would splash out everywhere, including the sink cabinet which showed significant signs of water damage. The location was convenient as it was a few blocks from the closest subway. Another annoyance we had was on the last day, the elevator made a horrifically loud noise every time it passed the 5th floor. Our room was located right on the back side of the elevator and this noise started at around 6am and we lost sleep because of it. Other than that, not a bad place to stay.
You get what you pay for. Give credit where credit is due, this hotel is inexpensive and in a great location. However, I had reserved a room with a queen bed. When we checked in we were told they had "upgraded" us (their words) to a room with two double beds. I don't know in which alternate universe one "upgrades" to a smaller bed but in my world this is a called a "downgrade". One of the bedside lamps was broken as was the bathroom vent. The sink was very slow draining, almost clogged. The beds and pillows were uncomfortable and lumpy. Even the floor was lumpy and uneven, and even managed a loud squeaking noise (in our room) everytime someone passed in the hallway. All in all not a terrible experience but certainly didn't live up to the other reviews.
It's ok. Rooms are 'compact', lounge is underwhelming and there's no gym but as a place to stay it's functional and a completely satisfactory place to sleep
Everything is really nice and high end. The breakfast is very expensive though
One of the best experiencing I ve had in New York City. The staff is awesome and made me feel so special for my birthday. Would def re stay and have recommended plenty of friends and colleagues to stay here
We weren't expecting much, but The Marcel went above expectations. From the fruit water at check in to the wonderful view outside it fit our needs. The location also served us well.
Nice clean room in an old new york building. The rooms are smaller, more European in feel, but adequate. Hotel staff were very nice and accommodating.
Great Price, Great room, Great Staff. The hotel is within walking distance of so many things. I will definitely be staying there again.
Clean air conditioning wasn't up to par in rooms and.messed up reservation
Someone urinated in the shower while we were out during the day. I guess I should have given hefty tip to bellboy to stay comfortably here.
Great experience, good night. Room upgrade was nice. window had no view (internal), but it is NYC- what can you expect.
Good location, nice staff, comfy beds, small rooms (but fine for the price). Owner should invest in some softer towels and better toilet paper
The sink and shower water came out intermittently dark brown with solid particles in it, even after letting both run for >5 minutes.
The sink clogged almost instantly. The shower door was missing.
No coffee in the rooms, and coffee isn't out until 6:30am in the lounge.
Excellent hotel with good costumer service!!!
Recently we had the pleasure of staying at The Marcel hotel. The rooms are modern, clean, and competitively priced. Most important to mention though, is the professionalism of the staff all of them. And how nice they are to everyone. I will certainly be back, and am highly recommending The Marcel to my friends and business associates.
I was charged a hidden fee of $25 dollars. I was informed it covered breakfast but the continental breakfast was removed permanently the day before. Apparently the $25 dollar fee covered complimentary items which I was never informed of. That also doesn t seem complimentary .
The room was good and is the only reason I didn t rate 1 star.
I also must note, I didn t book this room and it was booked for me by a company I was interviewing for. I was forced by The Marcel into paying for something I never agreed too. The hotel didn t care.
Based on my experience, I am strongly suggesting you do not visit this hotel. They seem really nice when you check in but that s when the positive experience ends.
Great location if you are working at NYU Medical/Dental schools. It's a very nice 4-star boutique hotel with nice accommodations and comfy beds, rooftop terrace and coffee lounge, friendly staff. I will certainly return when working at NYU Medical Center again.
My room was small (of course!) but comfortable and stylish with modern bathroom fixtures. Staff was very gracious.
Literally LAUGHED walking into the room. Me and my boyfriend couldn t go arms length across the room. Additionally the room was SO LOUD worst nights sleep ever so much for a vacation.
Good location, comfortable room, pleasant terrace and attentive staff
Clean, large room. Slowest elevator in the world but still 5 stars so far.
Quite the average hotel
Pros: friendly service and comfortable bed
Cons: maintenance of the infrastructure is lacking, no coffee machine in the rooms, expensive wifi.
Overall: good hotel (does the job) but should offer more amenities for that price (120$ per night)
Extremely clean room, awesome service. One of the two elevators was not working during my stay. The rooms are extremely small but workable.
Well the location is very good and the service they give is really good
Wonderful staff, very clean, will definitely return soon.
It was a good stay at the Marcel at Gramercy for 2-week back in 2018. The Hotel is very conveniently located right at the corner of 3rd Avenue & 24th St.
The rooms are exceptionally clean & well appointed, but a caution - many of their rooms are pretty small & if facing inwards may not have enough natural light- a clear problem for long stays (but that's how most Manhattan hotel rooms are..). That said, the staff is efficient and professional.
Finally, there are many bars & restaurants all around - Taproom 307 is the probably the best watering hole around and Jaiya is brilliant for Thai food.
I would be giving the Marcel a 5/5, but no free wifi in 2016 is a deal breaker for me.
The rest of the visit was rather pleasant. Upon arrival I was given up upgrade from my queen room to a king free of charge.
There is no hotel parking but they are affiliated with a nearby garage for a reduced rate. The staff and bellhop were kind and attentive as well.
My upgraded room was rather large with a sizable bathroom, a couch, and a desk with a lot of spare room. I daresay it was spacious.
To be fair, there is free Internet in the hotel visitor lounge, but that is only available until 10pm.
All in all, I would recommend the hotel, but only if having to pay for Internet does not bother you.
Staff was friendly and the hotel was in a convenient location. My room was small but similarly sized to other hotels in New York, and has a full bathroom.
Wonderful service, mondern an spacious rooms and great lounge bar on the 10th floor.
Very clean, spacious and private. Nice patio and amazing customer service from Scott. Will definitely return and recommend.
Nice hotel. Good location. Friendly staff. Internet is free if you ask nice. Good eats near the hotel, like Taproom 307, which is like a two minute walk away.
First and foremost, I'd like to thank Anastasia Shim for helping me secure my longer than usual stay. She is friendly and professional, and even returned my telephone call via the telephone (almost unheard of these days!!). So thank you Anastasia - job well done. I have stayed at the Marcel over the years many times, and this visit was no different. The staff is incredible and I do hope that the owners and management appreciate them all. To be more specific, I'd like to thank the front desk staff - Milta and Kiarra, Caroline and Tina and Danielle. They were so helpful with any request. Milta has been there for a while and hope to see her again next visit to NYC. I can't say enough good things about Caroline and Kiarra. Then there is Mohammed, who goes way back with The Marcel, and helpful and charming as ever. And ,of course Abduhl and Navil, likewise. Rakesh was the engineer who tweeked a few issues in my room, Dimetri who goes way way back and even remembered my parents from their previous stays years ago - quite impressive. Last but not least, Fatima kept my room just the way I like it. My room was more than comfortable and clean without the usual worry of bedbugs in NYC.
So thank you Marcel and everyone whose name I may have missed. I hope to see you next trip to NYC!!!!!
I always have a good time when I come here! Music is always on point and the customer service is great!
Great location, nice room (we had superior) but noise was a big issue from 3rd avenue. But they do give earplugs!! Comfy bed and free tea or coffee on the 10th floor. Good to have a iron and hairdryer in the room
Friendly staff, nice room, quiet (for Manhattan), centrally located, and reasonably priced ... what more can you ask for?
From the moment we arrived Scott and Caroline made us feel truly welcome and offered us great tips about the city - even upgraded our room without asking! The hotel itself was spotless, beautifully decorated, and smelled great as well. We took advantage of the 10th floor lounge and the free coffee to fuel out adventures. The location is just perfect as well with easy access to all the areas of the city we wanted to explore. The neighborhood around the hotel had a great vibe with plenty of restaurants and cafes, We had a great experience and would definitely recommend the Marcel, we will be back!
After I had booked our stay through Hotwire I was worried we would be staying in a Standard Room. I called and the manager upgraded our stay at no additional fee. Our room had a fantastic view and was just the right size!
They even gave us an engagement gift!
Thank you to the staff for working on the holiday! Thank you to the manager for upgrading us. We could not have been happier.

From the second we entered the hotel everyone was very friendly and very helpful. We had a great room, it was fine with a king size bed very comfortable too. I couldn t complain about anything. The shower was great, we had plenty of hot water too. I definitely would come back to this hotel again. Also we parked about 200 feet from the hotel in a closed parking lot. We also get a free breakfast tomorrow. I recommend this hotel to everyone!!!
Overall nice Hotel. Though it s hard to believe that some places still sell their Wifi. Here they took a tenner for 24 hours.
Other than that it didn t gave me a reason to complain.
The water pressure was very weak. Plus it takes a few minutes to set the right temperature on the shower...
Also I got bitten all over by something (I think a spider) but I only think there's a 50/50 chance it was actually from inside the Marcel... I got itchy before going to sleep.. but then sleeping I got bitten a bunch more times... I might have brought the spider into my room from the outside...
Room was small but comfortable. Service was quick and effective.
This was my second stay here. Lovely boutique hotel at a great location. The complimentary coffee/tea facility at the rooftop lounge is a great little feature. Will definitely stay here again.
Hotel in a very good,as are the staff nothing is any problem well looked after.Hotel position for all the attractions is ideal enjoyed the whole experience very much
Wonderful staff here that were willing to go above and beyond what I would expect. Very polite and welcoming. The room itself was in perfect condition and very clean. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud. We didn't use the TV, so I can't say what the cable was like. They also have a rooftop patio that had a good view. I'll be coming back here again for sure!
The location of the hotel is very central. 5min walk to the nearest subway with good connections (Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Grand Central, Brooklyn Bridge). Very close to the Empire State Building. The district is called Gramercy and is located next to Midtown Manhattan. The room was very clean, the bed extremely comfortable. Bed was made fresh daily, towels changed daily. The bathroom was also very clean. Size of the room typical Newyorkerisch (small, but fine). The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. Particularly noteworthy here is Mohamad, a really lovable and helpful employee. We will always book this hotel for future New York trips as we were completely satisfied.
Hi, we stayed at this hotel my wife and I for our honeymoon.
We had a great time, as it is in an excellent position to visit Manhattan, just minutes from the Empire State Building.
In the hotel they welcomed us very well, in particular we got to know and get help from Sarah, smiling and helpful especially with our poor English., Taking everything with great laughs, she helped us book buses to head out of New York, the taxi to the airport.
We hope to see you soon in Italy.
Great customer service! Great stay, highly recommend
Nice boutique hotel. No restaurant, but many close by
The hotel is well placed, the services are very good and the staff very helpful and very responsive to our requests ..
A small flat about the lack of storage space in our room but I recommend because excellent value for money
Good hotel, well served area, very close to Eataly for those who long for Italian food
For the price, the water shouldn't have had a 15 minute warm-up time, the drawers should have stayed closed, the umbrella shouldn't have been missing from the room, the street noise should have been quieter, etc. Everything was very well kept and comfortable though.
Modern, small hotel, renovated and clean. Reasonable prices for what NY is. A good option if you do tourism in this city.
Mediocre rooms, poorly trained management staff. We booked this hotel because of deeply unfortunate circumstances and its proximity to Hospital Row. They charged us for two rooms instead of one and it has been a complete procedural nightmare to resolve the issue because no one in management is motivated to offer customer support or resolutions and instead have the attitude of not my problem, call this other department ad nauseam which is a surprising (and disappointing) management approach.
Edit after seeing the Marcel s reply: the unfortunate circumstances are the fact that my 30 year old best friend died unexpectedly. That s why we needed a hotel by the Medical Examiner s office on the day of her death, for her visiting family. I m glad in the hotel s cold and callous reply the public can see their heartlessness and obsession with profit over humanity. Felicia I hope you never experience what I went through that day. I ll pray for your cold heartless soul. Hope the extra $120 and profiting off my tragedy was worth it for you.
This hotel was very mediocre. The rooms were not very nice at all. They were very small with little sunlight and cheap, tacky decorations. The towels and bath materials are low quality. The heat was broken and relentlessly kept our room at 80 degrees despite the front desk sending someone to come fix it. There is a hidden $25 fee when you check in for services that an average hotel should provide such as water in the lobby and the service of holding the luggage on the day of check out. This is an over priced, cheap hotel so I highly recommend looking elsewhere when staying in NYC.
This place is perfect for staying a few nights in NY. The interior is new and stylish. Our room is cozy and has an amazing view on the city. They gave us a room with two separate beds which is what we asked for, so thank you! Btw, this three star hotel is much better than the 4 star hotel we stayed before.
