A shabby hotel. The trick did not work, the room door closed badly, a tremendous old feeling in the room and the rest of the hotel. The receptionist very unfriendly. A whole poem.

Horrible place! Didn t enjoy a second in this hotel. They charged me twice more than a week ago, didn t get my money back yet.

Stayed in a double room. Great service, decent amount of space in room, and the staff was incredibly helpful especially since we had some specific requests for our stay.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and the room was surprisingly large for NYC. I would have preferred if the Wi-Fi were free and if they had a bar within the hotel. The staff was very friendly and eager to help.

The location was perfect from where we needed to get around to. The rooms were smaller but ideal for couple nights stay. The service was wonderful.

When i stay at the Marcel And i am far Away from Home i feel like i never left my County. The cleaniness is excep ional , the doorman Mohammad is always taking Good care of me . The front desk kiara , milta , claribel always recieve me with Open Arms And Smiles . The entire staff goes Above And beyond to make my stay So memorable. Thank you Marcel For all the love And hospitality you deliver to me . I love you Marcel !!!!

I would say this hotel was ok but not spectacular.
We had a room on the second floor which to my mind was a little on the small side. It was noisy but I think you can expect this from New York.
Upon arrival we were greeted by a basket of nibbles and drinks. We looked at the price list and found it prohibitive. $7 for 750 ml of Evian, $5 for a Kitkat is taking liberties.
I expect items such as ironing board and wardrobe to be standard fixtures in a hotel room but clearly I am mistaken.
The lack of free wifi in the room is disgraceful. This is the 21st century, I shouldn't be expected to pay $10 a day (per device) for wifi in my room. There is complimentary wifi up on the 10th floor but on 3 out of the 10 days I was here, it was not working. Surprise, surprise the $10 wifi had no such issues.
I might be being pedantic but I expect a power shower in the bathroom in a hotel of this standard. The shower there was a bit weak.
The lack of available power outlets was annoying.
The bed was a little on the short side. I am only 5"3 and noticed this.
Not changing the towels and bed linen every day unless you leave a card on the bed and towels on the floor is substandard.
The continental breakfast for $12.95 plus tax did not interest me at all. I was further out off eating anything that may have been on offer when I noticed ants (more than a few) crawling around the fruit basket.
The plus points about the Marcel are that the view from the rooftop of the 10th floor is spectacular. I would highly recommend going up there if you are staying at the hotel.
The staff are helpful and friendly. The gentleman at reception when we checked in gave us a map of Manhattan and the surrounding area which included all the subway lines/connections which proved to be invaluable.
The hotel is in a fantastic location. It is walking distance from attractions like the Empire State Building.
The room was always clean, the air conditioning did the job.

I had a nice time at the hotel. There was a problem with the air conditioning the day I arrived, but it was fixed on the same day. The rooms are rather small (Manhattan...) but the real problem was planning - the table was so close to the bed that I could not put the chair by it and work. The staff is extremely nice and friendly. There is a rooftop lounge, where one can have breakfast (for an additional fee) or have coffee (complementary, throughout the day) and relax with a book and a view of the city.

Currently staying at the Marcel at Gramercy. So far good experience. Place is well taken care of and would highly recommend.

Impeccable lobby, elevator, suite and room.
We will be back again and again.

Stayed there for a weekend with a friend of mine. In pictures the room looks larger but unfortunately it is too small. No mini refrigerator, no iron box. We were pretty much inside a box with a bed and table and no place to walk. If you're a tourist and planning on being hop on hop off buses, this isn't ideal place to stay. You have to walk 25 mins to the nearest bus stop. There's no free wifi.. You have to pay for it. $9.99 for two devices.

I just passed by but looks well kept and has a lot of guests.

Warm and Cozy Place, Was a little uncomfortable about room being so tight, But, Bed made up for it, Very Cozy and Slept well, FYI, Bring your own face towels, Ours had stains that were questionable! Staff was Very Friendly!

Front desk staff were amazing!! I would definitely be back!

Pretty small rooms.
Opening or storing two suitcases here is rather difficult.

The wooden floor under the carpet clatters a bit and looks uneven.

Upstairs there is free coffee, tea or water throughout the day.

The subway station as well as the CityBike stations are 1-2 blocks away.

Rooms much smaller than pics make them seem. Staff service is good but the accommodations are space challenged.

It's definitely not worse the money!!

- No free WIFI (you have to pay around 15 dollars/day to have WIFI in your room, only in the lobby and in the 11th floor it is for free, but with poor reception). Thats totally abstruse in this day and age .

- The toilet was blocked 2 times during 6 nights. Thats disgusting and quite unacceptable.

- They put us in a single room, although we paid for a two bed room. After complaining we were able to change.

- The keycards for the rooms are not working properly. Every second day we had to get new ones.

- They put every day on every bedside table a small bottel of water. In the end it turned out, that it is 5 dollar/bottle, which was noted nowhere.

Pro: Very friendly stuff and comfortable beds.

Great staff and a great room. Staff were even kind enough to upgrade for free with just being asked.

Fairly affordable, amazing atmosphere. Rooms are beautifully decorated, private bath (a luxury for sure, in Manhattan) the 'extras' were abaurdly priced...$7 for a bottle of water? I guess that'd be my only complaint. Staff was very accommodating and helpful, very friendly and welcoming.

Rooms are very small and extremely warm even during the winter. The staff are very friendly but isn't a very clean hotel and has no real facilities. I wouldn't stay in this hotel again.

Spent a week at the hotel and had no complaints. Booked a standard room which was smaller than we had hoped for but the staff arranged a transfer to a larger room without any fuss or bother. Very clean with maid service daily. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful, nothing was too much for them. The location was ideal for seeing all the sights in New York. All in all an excellent stay and I would happily recommend this hotel

Just got home from my three night stay at The Marcel at Gramercy and I can not wait to go back. I had a standard room with a king bed, the room was a good size for a manhattan hotel and very clean! The staff was kind and made you feel at home. The pictures online are true to what you get!

Small rooms but centrally located in the city surrounded by bars and restaurants. The 6 subway train is 2 blocks away.

Great staff - good sized rooms, fairly clean. Great location near multiple parks and metro options. Rooftop view of the Empire State Building from The Marcel.

The location is near Union Square where I frequent because of the food market. The service is good and there are even promo deals on the website!

Pros: The location, the staff, comfort of the room
Cons: shower head

The business centre on the 10th floor was very useful and nice to go onto the terrace to view the Empire State building

The customer service at the corporate office is bearable but the service at the actual hotel, specifically the hotel and employee : Felicia H was an absolute nightmare to deal with. I would never recommend this hotel. Instead, I highly recommend the Artezen hotel. It's a little further south but next to the Fulton train station and they have phenomenal customer service and nice, clean, updated rooms.

The people were always friendly, they stored our luggage without any problems.
The room fulfilled its function and was comfortable, small but sufficient and clean.

Booked this room some time ago and recollect the staff to be friendly. However, the room itself was a disappointment. First, the room was tiny. Second, the couch/chair in the room was dirty and visibly quite worn. The wallpaper was torn and several of the bathroom floor tiles were loose and broken. I had to make sure the staff were notified during my stay in order to not be charged afterwards. I sincerely hope this place gets some of the TLC it desperately needs.

Worst hotel ever. Showers and sinks back up, absolutely disgusting. This is truly a polished turd.
AC didn't work in the second room, got so hot I could barely sleep.
Manager is a complete moron, insisted at MIDNIGHT that they come try to look at the AC to fix it rather than give me another room.
I wanted 100% refund manager said "I won't let you blackmail us"
LOL what a punk. I went ahead and ended our short relationship by cussing him out. The arrogance was more than I could handle!!!

Bottom line- STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!

Nice boutique hotel with attentive, friendly staff! Well located for tourism.

Rooms are small but adequate. Great place to visit the city and some great bars and places locally. No wifi in rooms without 10 buck surcharge. Staff very friendly. Breakfast is continental but not worth $15. Skip and eat in countless places nearby. This is worth the money and i can recommend it as a good place. There is no hotel bar but lounge has free coffee and has great views of city. They will deliver ice to your room. Off licence round the corner if you need gin and tonics.

Great staff. Small rooms, but just what you need to spend few days in NYC. Location is ok and the parking garage near has a very good rate for hotel guests.

Stylish hotel. The location gives you amazing access to Gramercy, Union Square, or the Lower East Side. I was able to walk to the Strand bookstore, cool thrift shops, great coffee, and restaurants like Momofuku and Veselka. The rooms are small and utilitarian with style. My room was near some particularly loud a/c units which made it a little hard to sleep, but I was really tired, so not the biggest deal. There's a nice rooftop and coffee etc on the 10th floor. Great location for a great price. I'd definitely consider staying again. I much prefer it to the big chains in super busy areas.

My room was on the third floor and on a busy corner. It was noisy. The room and service were very nice. It is in a great location for business needs.

Good location, friendly staff. But, very cramp and beds are way low, like on the floor low. Having to put the key in the lightswitch to make it work was strang and annoying. TV did not work when we got there, they did get that fixed, the air conditioning was not good at all.

Very nice clean hotel located in a quiet area but with everything you could want right around the corner. Staff was very helpful. Bellman arranged car service to the airport for us on our day of departure.

Location is the saving grace of The Marcel. Because it s in Midtown, it s got a great walking score.

The friendly staff (some, not all) also make up for this overpriced hotel.

The rooms were dingy, dated, humid, and the sheets did not look clean. Our room had a decent view but the A/C was so loud it kept us up at night.

Would I stay here again? Only if desperate. At over $345/night it was a complete ripoff. For what the hotel offers, a fair price would be $195/night.

My recommendation? Avoid if you can.

Very nice staff - especially Mo on the door. Any requests fied quickly. Great location at a good price. Often stay here because of this.

It's a NYC shelter and I must say its fabulous and I'm very blessed that I'm living here for what is my last few days in a shelter. The marcel rooms are all single rooms with cable, microwave, mini fridge and the most fabulous views in some rooms. The marcel clean all rooms ever other day also while changing out blanket, sheets, towels and toilet paper plus vacuuming.

The rooms are nice and very contemporary. Love this hotel

Definitely not recommended: tight and old room, extremely noisy, low pressure water... and a bed that's guaranteed to give you a backache. A big no!

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel! Great location to where we needed to be and not a far walk to the Path. The room was very small, but that is what you get in NYC... everything is small and I think people forget that. Overall, the room was very clean and modern. We had an issue with our heat not working but the staff responded immediately and in 5 min someone came to fix the problem! We enjoyed the lounge area as extra space to get out of the small room. Overall, great small hotel with courteous staff!

Excellent location ... Quality staff .. Rooms without being spacious .. Clean and the cleaning done every day ... A room where coffee is hot in petmance with tea and drinks .. And especially a terrace sublime with a wonderful view of the empire state building ..... yes good hotel ....

Pro: Location was great. Staff was friendly

Con: Shower pressure was weak, was told that it could be fixed by twisting the head, did not work. Toilet clogged easily and actually flooded.

As others have said, considering the price and the Gramercy location, this place is terrific. Yes, the rooms are very small - reminiscent of a Club Quarters for business travelers familiar with that chain - but they are very clean and nicely appointed. Free WiFi throughout. Staff are extremely polite and helpful beyond what you would ever expect. A great choice for a business stay.

Tiny accommodations no view, might as well stay at Yotel. They have an ice bucket but no glasses. I love how the back of my calf hits the toilet as I squeeze past the bathroom door in order to close it. Nasty. $3.00 for a Sprite and no glass to put it in??? This is not a $6 kit-kat or $5 water kind of place... but that's the charge... Clean room is the only reason I give 2 stars

The Marcel is nice, clean, and modern, but rooms are tiny, even by New York's standards. Free breakfast is a nice touch, though wifi is not included (available for a fee). A quiet, charming location in Gramercy, with decent midtown views from the 10th floor common area/lounge. Service is friendly and accommodating. If you're staying on your own, or just need a room for a short while, the space will do. If you're looking for a bit more legroom it may be worth researching your options.

Deceptive discount (-51% advertised on Booking when it was the standard price). Breakfast at $ 18 HT for a simple buffet. Tried to charge us a drink from the mini fridge at check-out. Disastrous climate (noisy and unstable thermostat). No sound insulation (single glazing) on an avenue with a lot of traffic. Hot water very slow to come. Bed (a lot) too soft. Elevators (very) slow.
