Love the Malthouse! Fascinating performances, good place to meet friends, friendly, helpful staff, food and drink available. Sitting ing the courtyard, sipping on a chilled Rose before the performance is THE way to go to the theatre!
Cool, vibey theatre with an eclectic crowd and great shows!
Went there for the CBA Christmas party. The food was good, there a burger food truck youcould eat from. There was also staff bringing around food on plates. The was a drinks truck as well. This meant that there were multiple places to get food and drink, so reduced queues. Outside there were two excellent singers and inside there was a DJ. There were also two photos booths. The space over our head contained all thr scenery lift up, so that was quite interesting. The only downer is absolutely no taxis came at the end of the night for those who wanted to go home. Well organized Malthouse. I'd go there for another party.
Reallt enjoyed The Importance of being Ernest. I think I go short changed on my glass of wine.
This is my second time watching Michelle Lee's plays. This is an awesome little venue where you can watch cool plays and area is outside of the CBD enough that you can find street parking. Place also offers a selection of beer and wine that you can take into the play (request plastic cups). I highly recommend it.
Great venue for shows - nice bar downstairs and the setup is good. Came through to see two comedy shows they had on one night - a little easier to park at than shows in the city proper.
Love the theatre and loved the show but I was roasting upstairs.
Perhaps needed to crank up the air-coair-conditioning
Fabulous theatre - a range of styles. Great cafe with yummy food at a great price. Excellent service.
Really cool building with tons going on and a real arts vibe inside.
It's a breathtaking compound. The venues I have been in were comfortable, with plenty of leg room, the bar well-stocked, and every employee I spoke with helpful and engaging.
Best outdoor day party ever! Excellent location and close to EVERYTHING
Watched a play, The Temple. Funny, wicked and strange ending, worthy night out.
Lovely place with a warm, inviting theatre. Saw the Importance of Being Earnest here. Great bar and atmosphere
A few drink and food options all generally reasonably priced. Saw a great show and plenty of parking near by. Shame there's not more venues like it
I will be back once COVID is over. Great ambient atmosphere. Thank you.
Great space. Work on the ticketing; make it electronic and modern.
Interesting place. Could do with more variety of menu and comfy chairs. Staff where polite and efficient. Has a cafe, restaurant and bar.
Great venue for large groups of 250+. Indoor an outdoor options, very unique spaces and good staff
It was really nerve-wracking as I was performing, but the stage was really nice with a historical charm. The theatre was pretty small, but it made the performances more personal and interactive.
Great place for a drink, a meal and a live show. Great atmosphere during the recent Melbourne comedy festival!
Meals supplied were really nice and coffee was good
Want something local? Something live and entertaining? To this is the place
great theatre with a range of plays that are very reasonably priced for those under 30 years old!
Great theatre. I have seen many good plays there. Highly recommended to take a look at the program. Great cafe and atmosphere. An icon of Melbourne
Some of the best theatre happens here. Great facilities, excellent staff and I love that they have maintained some of the original malthouse aesthetic. Nice outdoor area to relax in too.
They host great shows, the venue is great and the drinks are super reasonably priced!
Food art theatre it's in the heart of Melbournes art precinct.
I attended the 'performance' of 'In the Bleak Midwinter' on Friday night. In brief, I recommend you rather attend your local dentist and request an extraction with no anaesthetic. It will be far more bearable even pleasurable by comparison and will be over far quicker.
Excellent theatre venue. Quick and nice food service before the show. Great fun.
Big fan of the malthouse, when we go to the theatre it's usually to the malthouse, their choice of shows is diverse and usually highly entertaining
Great theatre, easy bar, with outdoor reclining.... Just part of melb life!
I went to the Malthouse with my partner to watch The Good Muslim Boy play. I wear a hearing aid and my seat was up in the top row. I could not hear much of the play, and was only able to hear when the actors dialogue was necessarily louder. . The play became meaningless to me. Am not sure if sitting in the front would be better as friends who were seated toward the front complained of a lot of background noise.
Great place to catchup before or after a show. Nice theatres.
We went to the Malthouse Theatre to see "The End of Eddy" an English production that was part of MIFA. Both performers were fantastic working with four screens to present multiple roles while also partnering to play the part of Eddy. This was totally engaging theatre dealing with political issues deftly and bringing to life the trials of working class life in a village in rural France. Eddy's futile attempts to make himself a real man were moving and his courage in finding a path to being himself was inspirational. It was a shame we saw one of the last performances because I intend to tell everyone about this performance.
I had a conference here, it's a nice place but it is quite old.
Such a cool place
To see a show!
Great venue, with an intimate, cosy feeling from the moment you get there
Always so helpful at box office also you can dine at the venue. Love the theatre space and the historical building
Up there with the best of venues. Consistently good for last few decades. Always enjoy the visit. Plays are pretty good too!
A well constructed comfortable modern theatre. Toilets are in a much better condition than the older more well known theatres in the city. The seats were comfy and there was more leg room for people to pass by. It was not too difficult to find parking. But it was Sunday evening. I would imagine that during the weekday it would be quite a challenge. Nice court yard with seats and plenty of standing room in pleasant surrounds. The theatre was wheelchair accessible. There's a front seating wheelchair area about 5 rows from the front of the stage.
Staff were rude and I was not treated with respect at my time at this theatre. I would not recommend to any dance schools as we were provided with a tiny theatre and when we asked for spare seats we were told that there wasn t any wereas there was 5 at my performance
One of my favourite places. We subscribe to the theatre season and also love to pop in for a drink whenever we're in the neighbourhood.
Excellent entertaining and challenging theatre. Melbourne's pride!
Attended 'Brothers Wreck at the Malthouse which is a fabulous performance venue, providing contemporary Australian theatre. Includes bar, outdoor eating and cafe inside with good selection of food, cheese and wine
The best place in Melbourne to go for live theatre. Great combination of prestigious and underground.
The staff here were so amazing in accommodating my Nanna at my graduation.
Cannot speak better about this place.
We went to see the (as always) brilliant Listies. They were great. The staff were professional and the place itself lovely.
Great staff serve a selection of hors d'oeuvres and drinks at functions. Offers a dancefloor and karaoke room.
Fantastic local theatre with independent productions
Beautiful old building and venue for performance of a stand up show. There is also a bar for drinks, am outside eating area and food available. Parking was available for the hours at two dollars an hour.
I never write reviews but had such a bad experience at a work party here. The space is fine but staff are rude and service was completely disorganised - was a complete shambles!!
Literally had to stand by the kitchen to get any food, there wasn t enough going round and not circulated properly, lots of people never got anything to eat.
Bars were all chaos. Not enough staff serving all night and then they started shutting them 30 early so people who were waited to be served got sent to another bar and then to another one that only had one person serving whilst all the other staff packed up. Tried for 20 mins to get a drink and was then told that I had to pay for it cos it was one minute past midnight. Complained and explained that I had been bounced around bars and waited ages and staff just didn t care.
Don t bother with the venue for large scale partys/events, nothing special, total let down.
Great venue with consistently original, high calibre productions in amazing heritage space.
Popped in to check out the Beckett Theatre, named after my favorite writer, Samuel Beckett.
Had a huge event here and I don t think it was at all appropriate as the parking was insufficient and just not enough room to move in saying that I think that s an organisational issue not an environmental issue!
