It's been years since I've seen a performance at Malthouse. Today made me realize what I've been missing. Enjoyed amazing performances by innovative students, including ours then had the pleasure of seeing the professionals present the same play as the students. Very thought provoking performances by all. A great day.

On Saturday night I went to the Malthouse Theatre and saw Bliss. I loved the show! The Malthouse was a great place with plenty of seating for us to grab a drink before heading into the performance. The theatre that we were in was quite intimate and small which made the whole experience better in my opinion. I am already keeping an eye out for the next performance that I can go see at the Malthouse! Highly recommend!

Malthouse has earned a reputation for compelling programs of theatre, particularly for interpretations of scripts that are reliably surprising. Their writers, directors and stage artists are amongst the best.

Theatre with a difference. Intimate theatres, performances varied, thought-provoking and generally excellent.
Just attended "The Encounter" and was blown away, have never been to anything like it. Based around excellent sound tech, the audience was transported deep into the Amazon Rainforest. Stunning!

The multiple levels and funky industrial feeling of the entire venue is a testament to the architectural expression of the team who re purposed the location.

The main theatre houses an impressive Audio system giving vivid sound scapes.

As for the bar... when a company takes over the branding of a bar it's to me a little gratuitous, as Coopers is connected to the liberal national political party I'm a bit put off by that decision from management. That said it is (or was) Australia's most prolific Australian owned brewery brand and as the Malt in the house is obviously a direct connection to beer I begrudgingly accept, I also imagine tourists visiting and from that perspective it is a somewhat complimentary setup.

I've not recently eaten from the restaurant however have been told alternatives are likely a better bet unless time is an issue.

Look, I love the Malthouse. It's a great venue that gets some good shows in and always has a good vibe. Be wary of parking in the area, as there's always a rush. Public transport connections aren't the worst, but definitely aren't great, unfortunately.

[Note: reviewing this place in its capacity as a bar/cafe open to the general public, not in its capacity as a theatre venue.] Great space for a summer evening drink in the courtyard area, with decent light meals and sandwiches available throughout the day. Plenty of inside seating too. Bar isn't always open but the cafe also serves alcohol.

Have seen a couple of good plays in the past, best being A Golem Story many years ago. Have given it a few shots lately (over the past couple of years) but constantly disappointed. Every show has to resort to nudity and more recently simulated sex for some sort of shock value, whereas if they just had good plays with a story you could follow, good actors and good dialogue it wouldn t need to go so far. Unfortunately I just can t go here anymore as I leave thinking what the hell did I just watch every time..

Went there this morning for coffee with my boss. As I don't drink coffee, I had a hot chocolate and it was the worst hot chocolate I have ever had. And this includes the hot Milos they serve you on school camp.
Felt bad as my boss had paid for it and so I told the staff who didn't seem to care much.

Love the coffee and the chilled out atmosphere at Malthouse theatres cafe area. We live nearby and regularly go over for a coffee or a beer and to relax at their tables under the trees.

Perfect for summer days and boy are we glad the Covid lockdowns are over.

Great venue for some out of the ordinary contemporary stage productions. The food from the cafe is reasonably priced and quite good however may not be what you are expecting for a night of theatre. The wine and beer selection at the bar is fair but nothing outstanding, possibly due to commitments to the naming sponsor of the venue.

Specifically, I went and saw "The Black Rider" and enjoyed the show immensely.
