This is really great place and the food was absolutely delicious. This was truly fantastic German food and it was just like I was there. I love the meat it was so tender and it was very tasty. Clean and well managed and good customer service.

Great atmosphere! Very good service. Not a five star because some of the food items were not universally loved. The Ruben was not great and the potato salad was too sweet. However the sour braten was awesome, as was the goulash.

We went here to celebrate our anniversary. Love the German food. It's not cheap, but worth the trip from Chicago for a special occasion. Valet parking was convenient and no charge - only a tip.

The Sunday brunch offers a vast array of delicious possibilities, and even though a lot of the options are meat based, a vegetarian won't starve either. Staff were super friendly and the medieval decor complete with two knights' armour in the window was quite something also!

Asked for a quieter table and it wasn't a problem to get it. Waitress explained menu & could answer all our questions. Really great service. We had Rhine sampler w/ Jaeger sauce added to schnitzel and the saurbraten. Goulash in the sampler was ok. Sauces for the schnitzel & saurbraten are what make them better than just ok. The gluwein was really good and I could of drank more than one. Food was good, but wish I'd had the pork shank.

Tried something new beef & mushroom. The sauce over it was a bit sweet but overall yummy

You know the food isn't that great when the waiter says 'the only thing missing is the BBQ sauce'. On German food? Hello?! On a pork knuckle? You have to be kidding me. The waiter/bar tender Gary was just awful. He was inattentive, forgetful and utterly rude. The other staffs looked like they were either lost or uninterested in serving. What a dump. Never again. And for your reference, the menu on their web site is cheaper than what's on the menu in the restaurant. Rip off? I'd think so.

I happened into Maders in 2013. Just happened to be st. Patricks day. Place was surreal. I have never been to a smorgasbord with so much variety. I fell in love with this place. I haven't been able to get back, mainly because I live in California. I miss you Maders

Oh my. This place has a wonderful Old World, traditional, German ambiance. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with happy people, and splendid decor. There are many German beers to choose from. They will even help you pair your meal with the best brew. I had the Bavarian Platter. It did not disappoint.

Mader's has a bright and exciting history in Milwaukee, and is home to some great authentic German food. Just walking through the place is enough to transport you out of Milwaukee and back to Europe, the architecture and art is stunning and beautiful.

Great food, Great Beer Selection & the history here is amazing. Walk through the hallways, look at the artifacts. I love the 3 different sizes of beer glasses. I wanted to try the boot, but I would of never made it home.

Phenomenal experience. Top notch food, atmosphere, and wait staff. Have been here multiple times, and every time is an amazing experience all around. I always take my out of town guests here, as the food is always superb. Definitely a lifetime customer!

The food is good, how can it not be, it's Usingers...but it's very over priced and small portioned. They have a good German beer selection but it nothing you can't get at a decent liquor store. Definitely worth a try, but not much outside of that.

Had a reservation and service was awful. Waitress only came to the table twice to refill drink orders and water. Food orders were not right. Waited over 40 minutes for drink orders that never came. Overall, awful place. Won t be coming back to this restaurant.

Great German food in a restaurant that is s Showplace, with all sorts of fascinating details. It's not inexpensive, but going for lunch made it affordable, and both the quality of the food and the uniqueness of the building made it worth the money. The service is excellent, too, with capable costumed staff and a central location.

Picked this place because it is close to the ball park and a decent room price. Rooms are very nice even for a building that's not brand new. The hotel provides bottled water every day which is great for sightseeing. Lots of places to eat, we ate at the sports bar our first night so we could watch the game.Visiting from out of town to watch the Seattle Mariners play the Milwaukee Brewers.

Only the best German food without knowing someone that can cook traditional German food or to actually go to Germany. The atmosphere will take you to Germany and the staff are top nothch.

The bartender complained we sat in the bar without talking to the hostess. Then he ignored us for 5 minutes.

The while place was dead quiet and creepy.

Your food can never be good enough to make up for that.

Food was very good, ambience nice, and our servers went out of their way to make it a pleasant night for our very large group. Thanks, Ella and Seth and your coworkers for a fun experience!

Nice old German restaurant with emphasis on the old. Needs some updates even with trying to retain an old world feeling. The menu is some good German dishes but they were average or not very flavorful. Had a sampler plate and everything was cold or lukwarm. Expected better in Milwaukee. This place has been here a long time and better days may have been behind it.

The food is unseasoned and completely devoid of any flavor and the salt provided at the table will be old and solidified to ensure that you won't be able to improve the taste of the food no matter how hard you try. Service is also extremely slow, taking nearly 15 minutes to be acknowledged at our table and just as much time to have our orders taken.

I've been coming to Mader's for over thirty years and I've always enjoyed the food. The place has begun to show its age and a refurbishing wouldn't hurt. But that's okay as long the food and the service are top notch. Tonight the food was fine but the table service was not. Our server as far as I could tell had only three tables. And yet he managed to totally disappear three or four times during the meal causing me to wonder if he was cooking the meals or mixing drinks in the bar.The on-site valet parking is a definite plus. Following dinner the parking attendant had my car ready before I was even able to walk into the parking lot. Prompt and attentive service can make up for a few shortcomings and Mader's needs to find more staff who are committed to the success of this fine restaurant. I want it to still be there when I come back the next time.

Mader s is a Milwaukee tradition, it is considered one of the top German restaurants outside of Germany. The experience begins as you step through the door into the Germany of legend: exquisite woodwork, swords and steins on every wall, servers in dirndls and lederhosen, and the delightful traditional music. The Knight s bar offers various German and German-style beers in traditional steins or even large boot glasses. Wine list is superb and varied. Service is excellent, kitchen may not be the fastest, but the food is worth the wait. Try the pork shank, or the popular German sampler. Desserts are satisfactory if not spectacular.

You have to dine at this place if you are in Milwaukee ! It s so classic and apparently a lot of celebrities have dined there as well, dating all the way back to the Three Stooges. Pretty cool German spot with a variety of beer options that kept my friend really happy. Also they had a buffet for Christmas and the food variety was insane. Loved it and will be back at some point!

Wonderful authentic German food in a place with old world feel. Oxtail soup heavenly "just like mama used to make ". Waiter attentive and friendly. Sorry we live in NY and don't know when we'll be back.

Went to Mader's for my son's 18th birthday on 5/23. We were initially impressed with the host who sat us while we waited for our party and got a drink and brought menus. We had a group of seven and placed our orders. All of the meals came out within about 5 minutes of each other except for one. It was obvious the waiter had forgotten the order when he went over to my son's mom and asked sheepishly "you had the scallops, correct". She affirmed his question and he went back to the kitchen. He came back and said "the scallops are just finishing, sorry for the delay". 25 minutes later, our entire family had almost finished eating and her meal still wasn't there. Upon arrival the food was soupy and quite obviously under-prepared. No accommodations were made to our bill for the error and no apologies were made for the late service.

Of most concern is that the waitstaff lied and then had the kitchen rush through their meal. Not a good idea with seafood and potentially dangerous. When you're looking at a $500 dinner for a table of seven, you should receive better service or at least not to be lied to.

Milwaukee has many great restaurants and we were really looking towards reminiscing about our trip to Germany over great food. Unfortunately Mader's made for an uncomfortable night for everyone and produced a plate not worth $5, much less the $38 that was charged. (Yet they were sure to come out and try to market the after dinner pastries).

I realize people make mistakes, we all do. It was the unethical response to the mistake, the lack of any effort to make the situation right and putting a potentially dangerous plate on the table that is completely unacceptable. Please remember that if you consider this restaurant in your future!

Everyone at our table thought the food was poorly executed and hugely overpriced. My Rouladen (1 only for $32) was tough and lacked flavor, and any German food restaurant should be ashamed to sell that crummy (non veal) Schnitzel. You can do much better for much less money.

This wonderful German restaurant has been in the same family for several generations. This was my first visit and I wasn't disappointed. Be warned! the portions are enormous. There is a wide selection of traditional German dishes on the menu. Everyone in our group declared their meal to be delicious. There is also a wonderful selection of German, USA and international beers and wine on offer. Be sure to take a walk down the back of the restaurant so you can see all the American and international celebrities and famous people who have visited here. If I didn't live in Australia I would certainly be back for another meal.

Food was pretty good, service was a little slow, and I'm not sure why (since it was relatively empty) that they squeezed us next to this older couple. We were so close that my toddler could practically (and tried to) grab things off their table.

Absolutely LOVED this place! Three adults and a five year old were all blown away by the food, service, and atmosphere. They have a wall of fame that has a very impressive showing of famous visitors, entertainers, and Presidents! And there are Tons of antiques to look at everywhere. I can not wait to come back!

Love this place & the people! Went there for a drink one day; Zach & Allison made us feel so welcome & at home, came back the next night for dinner. Natalie, our server, was delightful! Highly recommend Mader s for the food, the atmosphere & the incredible staff! Thank you Allison, Natalie & Super awesome Zach! Y all made our first time trip to Milwaukee great!

The enterior is lovely and will make you feel like your not in this country. Our waiter was just okay, there were a few poor service spots. But the valet was nice, and the host was kind and the food was great. We were concerned about the dress code and went with business casual. We were sad to see some adult men in tank tops like they came from the gym. Not the restaurants fault, just a side note if your wondering about dress code. Overall we were happy with Mader's, but the table service could have been a little better.
