Two words sum up this place: tourist trap (it s as if they know it). Go here to take in the atmosphere for a bit, and leave soon thereafter... bring a some flares or fireworks if you expect anyone to notice you re there.

Unfriendly waitress. Not really good.

Unpleasant waitress (at the limit of the comic). Dishes rather mediocre and tasteless, served just lukewarm.

This is a unique jewel to Milwaukee! The food was outstanding and the service was wonderful. This establishment is rich with history and an experience that we will not forget. This has been added to our "must go to" list for whenever we pass through Wisconsin!

This place was great. I've never been to a German restaurant that was this German! Had some excellent cheeses and sausages, and a main course of Hungarian Goulash. All was excellent. I'm not a beer guy so I didn't partake in their ample selection, but most in my group did and were very pleased with the selection.

If I'm ever in the area again, this will be on the list to revisit!

Mader's offered my first real experience with German cuisine, that is beyond bratwurst.

The food was good and the service was good and speed, however our server could have made a few more visits. Guests often like attention for drink orders and/or appetizers. Our whole party of four knew exactly what we wanted to order before the waiter even stopped by for our drink order, which is to say something, we usually take forever (20 minutes) to figure that all out.

The place was decorated, overly decorated with an eclectic variety of items in an older space that offered a history of itself. Many of these were expensive works of art that offered a different type of dining ambiance.

Overall, I'd recommend Mader's to anyone wanting a more upscale experience or just good food. I advise that you take in a show and dine here before or afterwards. I'll be back.

Lovely decor. Food was ok. Had the Reuben rolls they were good...nothing crazy. Had the German sampler and the weinerschnitzel with Jaeger sauce on side. Both schnitzel were very well prepared but underseasoned. Delicious red and sauerkraut. The Apple strudel was pretty good. Overall ok but not sure it was worth the price.......

My parents and I were in Milwaukee and accidentally discovered Mader's Restaurant 3 years ago. I still remember the onion soup my mother had and the pork shank my father ordered, but I didn't try the taste of either at that time.

Recently I revisited Mader's specifically to sample its onion soup and pork shank. Everything was as good as my first impression had it, though the soup seemed as salty as my mom had complained about, too. It is a pricey restaurant; it is also the best German restaurant I have experienced west of the Atlantic.

I do not understand the o erall rating for this place. It took over an hour to get any food at all. Then when we did get our food it was cooked very poorly. The spaetzle was tasteless and not sauteed. The brussle sprouts were half burnt and half raw. The sausage was basic. The mustard was watery. The ham was basic country ham. And the prices are very high. I have been to many German restaurants charging less than half this price where the food and service was twice as good. Pass on this one.

It's ok, good for a fancy meal, but the food is not that great. I've had better cheaper German dishes. I don't really consider the food that amazing here. I prefer street food in Germany any day to what I had at a very high price here. Service is good but can be on the slower side. Everybody will dress up to go here, so it is on the nice fancy side, so date worthy. Collar shirt/suit kind of place. Not a place I really plan to go again.

I was very disappointed with my experience at Mader s. The food was cold when it arrived to the table. Sides that were included with the dish were missing. There are some major operational issues in the kitchen.
I felt so bad for our waitress Tay. She obviously had to many tables to wait on as she only check on us every 30 min. The last round of drinks that we ordered took 40 min to be delivered to our table.

The food was amazing. It was pricey, but worth the cost. The staff was friendly and our orders were correct. The food was painfully slow, and although they gave us free dessert to compensate us, a) I still missed my meeting and b) I'm not eating dessert. We had reservations, as did several other tables, so the why was the crowd such a surprise?

I d never really tried German food before. I came into this thinking meats and potatoes and low expectations. I was delightfully surprised. The flavors were really good! I didn t realize I could enjoy ham, sauerkraut, and mustard that much..but I did! All three is us thoroughly enjoyed our experience and I can honestly say I have cravings for the food!!

Had a great time at Mader's. The decor makes you feel like you are in Germany, but it isn't quite as noisy as a German beer hall.
The food and beer was excellent as well as the service. Our waiter was enthusiastic and gave good recommendations; I had the sampler and finished every last bite!

Favorite restaurant in MKE. If you like German food you will not be disappointed. It can be pricey but the lunch prices are cheaper with almost the same portion. The Sunday brunch has an amazing selection and I highly recommend you come ready to eat a bunch.

Just had brunch(overpriced) with my family. Should have walked out when the waiter poured all our waters. The glasses were dirty and you could see 'things' floating in the water. We gave it a chance, Never again. The dishes for the buffet were dirty. I grabbed a plate and you could feel the dried food on the underside. The beer stein had dried crusty food on the handle. Told someone about the floaties in their water. Their reaction..."oh wow". Paid our $98 and left. GROSS!!

We hit this place on the way back from the Sprecher brewery and weren't disappointed. I can't even remember all the stuff I had from the sampler platter I had, but who cares? Excellent selection of food and imported beer, and although the prices add up after a while you get your money's worth.

Old world charm but Chef uses a bit too much vinegar in his sauces the Rheinischer Sauerbraten Meat needs seasoning not sauce as an afterthought Weiswurst was excellent Weiner Schnitzel was plain the sauerkraut was just sauer

Wow! Great German food, drink and a great atmosphere. We came during a convention when it was incredibly busy and never felt like we we're waiting too long and the food was superb! I can see why Mader's is a must visit place in Milwaukee!

Mediocre at best. Service slow, food not at all impressive. Couple of beers didn't get charged so I try to do the right thing and was then charged 25 dollars for three beers that were supposed to be five each. There is a lot of other cool places around here I'd rather go to.

We make a point of visiting Mader's every time we're in Milwaukee. The food is authentic and delicious, and the decor and ambiance can't be beat. Last time, we had great fun as the waiter guided us through tasting some of the more unique selections from their beer list.
