Our luncheon at Mader's was awesome...great German food at an affordable price!

This place is neither authentic nor delicious. Moreover, its expensive! And the waitresses all wear cutesy or skimpy German attire, while the waiters wear normal attire. Very strange. I have no idea how this place has any reviews over 1 star. Oh, how I wish I had gone anywhere else for dinner in my one night in Milwaukee.
I just liked their dishes. I always get awesome customer service here. The place is clean and the cashiers are always very welcoming. Will come back again.
Nice and relaxing environment. However dishes were not as taste rich as we expected. We came here to celebrate birthday. Ordered GOULASH, which is supposed to be so soft and tender that it melts in your mouth but instead it was hard and chewy, and the dish was dry, very little sauce. VEGETARIAN SPATZLE was overwhelmingly rich and there were no veggies to be found in it. It was difficult to eat even half of it. POTATO DUMPLINGs were too doughy and dry.
Way Overpriced compared to dinning experience we had.
Limited Valet parking available on site. Street parking is also available.
Awesome restaurant! Great German authentic food and service.
This is an awesome very famous German restaurant with great German food and German atmosphere. I would highly recommend the Jaeger Schnitzel with their sauerkraut. Yum yum yum. And the service was also great!
Classic German food in a traditional Milwaukee area. If you haven't been here, you haven't been to Milwaukee!
One of the best brunch buffets. Traditional German and modern brunch items
Wow. Such lovely dishes in a beautiful, historic setting! Great German beers.
Food was spectacular! I loved the atmosphere and the decor was so interesting.
If like German food go here, if you don't go for beer only
Beautiful place but the appetizers were far better than the main dishes.
The Goulash was totally fantastic, we went during lunch and the place just seemed so alive and refreshing. I really recommend this for lunch or dinner.
Milwaukee's flagship German eatery. If you are in Milwaukee, you've gotta try this place. It has been in operation for more than a hundred years and offers the full range of German specialties--and an astonishing selection of German beers. You will think you are in Munich. The sauerbraten is particularly good. It is located in a busy area of historic 3rd St, but they have their own lot and valet parking. Give it a try. Its worth a visit just to see the collection of antique beer steins and other traditional decor elements.
This is the place to eat in Milwaukee!!!! Order the pork shank!! Yummy!
Awesome experience! The food and the ambience was spot on. Definitely felt that authenticity and I'm still thinking about those brussel sprouts!
The best "German" restaurant in Milwaukee.
Very excellent cuisine. Very friendly service and a great atmosphere. Definitely 5 stars.
The very best "German" restaurant in Milwaukee.
Great food, great service! Excellent German cuisine! This place has been around for a long time for a reason. Everyone in our party of 8 were extremely happy with our orders.
A great experience!
Recently visited for a family member's birthday, and the food was almost as much as experience as the restaurant itself. Bavarian food, if you've never tried it, can be a little confusing, but the wonderful servers at Mader's are happy to answer any questions. My only gripe is the price, but that can be overlooked if you are visiting for special occasions.
I still dream about those reuben rolls...
Went for the Mother s Day brunch with family and friends. The food was tasty! Smoked salmon, made to order omelets, prime rib, lamb, ribs of desserts (apple strudel is the best) fresh veggies/fruits and more. Friendly staff. Definitely a Milwaukee favorite/landmark. Recommend the food
Best $170 for 4 I ever spent. The food lives up to its reputation & the service. Ambiance is exceptional. To visit Milwaukee & not visit this place is a sin!
Came all the way from Georgia to eat here. Totally worth the trip.
Very disappointed. Went for the Thanksgiving buffet... Food was cold and dried out, probably because it sat out all day and we got the leftovers from the brunch service and they hadn't been refilled for the dinner service. Drinks is however ...excellent. The manager whom was a family member of Maders was great and didn't charge us for our dinners. That's good customer service. We'll go back again and try a meal from the menu...and the drinks.
Been family owned since 1902 and full of authentic quality food
Great food, huge portions, attentive (but not hovering) service. We sat at Jack Benny's table, it was pretty cool!
The most expensive German food you'll ever have. It's good and so is the service, but it's not the kind of place you should go to often.
Excellent and very reasonably priced Sunday brunch.
If you visit Milwaukee and haven't been to Mader's, you're missing out. It's a must go, and a choice selection. Not your everyday eatery, but for the right occasion, the price is more than worth it. Get the pork shank! And don't forget to sit in the big chair. Ask about renting the upstairs. My brother had his rehearsal dinner here and they did a smashing job!
While visiting Milwaukee, and the Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer Tour, we enjoyed a delicious lunch for four at Mader's German Restaurant. We all sampled bratwurst, and sausage variety platter which was delicious. I had the Weiner Schnitzel which was great. We will definitely return to Mader's on our next visit to Milwaukee.
Excellent food and good drink selection. If you want a traditional German meal, this is the place to go.
Such a well put together restaurant! Very cool old German style inside and out. The interior was great. But even yet, the food was amazing! All German-style dishes and favorites. A large bar in addition to the restaurant proper. Classic glass boot mugs as souvenirs.
What can I say maders is a class act food was authentic and femonomlnai we all loved it and will be back
Stopped here on our way home to Cincinnati. The food is incredible and the service is top notch. I rarely write reviews but this place deserved one. Whenever I'm back in Milwaukee i'll be back!
Efficient, friendly, attentive service. Delicious food. Frank Sinatra, the Clintons, Reagan, John Wayne, the three stooges, who has NOT eaten there? Wish it wasn't five hours from home...
Why 5 stars? Because it's some of the best German food and service I've had so it warrants the 5. Plus there is so much history here it's incredible! The place has been in continuous operation for over 100 years. That says a lot. On your way to the restrooms make sure you take a look and all the notable/famous people that have patronized Maders.
The Wienerschnitzel with spaetzle was incredible! I highly recommend paying the extra $2.00 and getting the fried egg and anchovies with capers on top. It was a phenomenal meal. The pork was cooked very well, tender and moist. We finished the meal off with strudel that takes about 15 minutes to prepare but it was so fantastically fresh and warm it melted in your mouth, well worth the wait.
Make sure you also go upstairs and check out the Stein collection they have for sale. It is some pretty fantastic looking and exotic steins.
We had Tay as our server and she was the best... we didn t want for nothing!! The food was amazing ... really love German Cuisine made right! I had the Wiener schnitzel Jager style with the mushroom gravy, Spaetzle was fluffy and the red cabbage sooo tender and sweet... onion soup to die for and their potato pancakes were freaking amazing ... definitely love this place !!
Great ambiance & excellent service, but the meal was substandard.
True German Beer Hall. Lots of great things to look at.
This used to be my favorite German Restaurant in Milwaukee. I was here earlier this month (July 2014) and the quality just isn't here anymore. There was a time that two types of Sauerbraten was offered (Bavarian or Rhein style), but now there is one dry and unimpressive type. The dumpling was like play dough: very dry and not very flavorful.
Like the vanishing German culture in Milwaukee, so goes the dedication or knowledge of maintaining quality German food here.
If you want a little atmosphere with your favorite German Beer, this may be the place. Next trip, I will go to Karl Ratzsch's. More expensive there, but the last time I ate there, it was worth it.
Please re-invent your old recipes and commitment to quality Maders.
Not great, bland food. Took a long time to be served. Atmosphere was lovely.
2020: Yet another astounding experience here at Mader's. Our server, Joey, was so phenomenal and attentive even when he was very busy! The food was absolutely delicious and they had a great Valentine's day special. Absolutely recommend to any and all in the Milwaukee area.
2019: Constantly recommend this place to travelers and friends! Absolutely great food! Very german menu and very good drinks as well! Staff was friendly and the atmosphere was astounding! I really cannot say enough great things about this place! The price is higher but that is reflected in the quality of their food! An absolutely must see!
Service was excellent, beer was German, etc. Not super into German food personally but the group I was with loved their own dishes.
Great food and friendly service. Ate here right after CoVid lockdown restrictions were lifted and we were impressed with the quality of everything given that they had just reopened, it was lunch, and not that many people were there. Many restaurants would slack on service and food quality under such circumstances. We felt it lived up to the hype. The beer was cold and delicious, and our food was fantastic. Would definitely return!
After receiving their email last week regarding their New Year's Eve specials of Rack of elk entree, and bee sting cake dessert, I knew my New Year's Eve plans had been made.
Dinner started off with a nice bowl of French Onion Soup. Very savory with all the components of a good French Onion Soup. I appreciated that its' size was not enormous, just enough for a good starter.
The elk was beautifully plated on a bed of spaetzle that had roasted carrots and wild mushrooms garnished with BlackBerry brandy foam. While the elk was properly cooked to a medium rare, the inherent muscular nature of the elk made a sharp knife a necessity. The true genius was in the spaetzle/carrot/mushroom base. It caught the taste of the elk and brandy foam.
Dessert was very good. Having never had bee sting cake before, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm sure Maders was a perfect representation. Massive amounts of nuts and honey were represented.
It was a dinner fitting for bringing in a new decade!!!!
Christmas. Day Buffet with Prime rib and lamb and ham and shrimp and spatzlae and and and....!
Incredible food. Incredible prices. Expect a big bill but you can't deny the food is incredible. The Sunday brunch is absolutely phenomenal.
Phenomenal service and wonderful food. Definitely a must if you like German food.
Excellent food and service. Ideal date night location. Pricy but worth it.
A Milwaukee staple! Amazing food and a can't-beat atmosphere. I have only been here for dinner, but I brunch is next and I've heard it is amazing!
Great food. Bit expensive but worth it if you want great German food.
Outstanding German cuisine served in relaxing Bavarian decor.
From the time I sat down til my order came was only 25 minutes. Plus the cuisine was fresh and palatable.
Great place to eat
You get a lot of food
A local place with all kinds of food to choose from very good and very reasonable prices
If I could give more stars, I would. Our reservation was 10 minutes late, the manager bought us a round of drinks. We were absolutely fine with this, but he insisted. The dinner went up from there. The tour of Germany was amazing.
My husband wanted German.. I'm never to found of the cuisine. Maders food was excellent. The service was good although they were a bit to busy for great service. I'm glad I let him decide.
Good German food, drink and desserts! Valet parking or lots close by to park!
Very old, traditional German restaurant in Milwaukee. My father used to go there 60 years ago when he lived there. Nice to follow in his footsteps. Excellent food, great atmosphere, and attentive wait staff. It is quite economical if you go there for lunch. The most expensive dish, (the sauerbraten), was around $15. This included traditional red cabbage, sauerkraut, spaetzle, and very delicious pretzel rolls. I would definitely check this place out if you find yourself in downtown Milwaukee.
Very tasty and great atmosphere . Would totally come back here again!
Great food, great service, great atmosphere!!! Totally recommend!!!
Beautiful atmosphere, good service. Food was good, but not served hot.
Great authentic German food with a once in lifetime look at medieval armor and weaponry! Go there at least twice a month!
Food was 'OK'. A bit pricy for the portions. I had the strudel, kind of weird tasting. However, service was impeccable.
Amazing service, atmosphere, and food!!! The mustard for the Ruben rolls (which were fantastic themselves) was magical! Highly recommend this place.
Very delicious food. It was my first time to this place and I enjoyed the ambiance.
Presentation of the food was great, but my meal was luke warm. I ordered the German Sampler.
Excellent German food and beers. We had the pork shank and the meat literally falls off the bone. The sauerkraut was outstanding and don t forget to order Belgium beer with 9% alcohol level
