OK place to get some food and continue on. The staff was very friendly.
Good for a special night out. Where money's no object. Good food but expensive.
Fancy af, has a history and great food. If youre a business prick tryna treat a lady take her here and then see the bars
Nice beer selection, few greens in sight, nice valet parking (no tickets), traditional and novel dishes, terse service, old world motif.
Very good food, too "pompous" atmosphere, staff OK.
One of the oldest restaurants in Milwaukee. Traditional and elegant German place. Spaten Octoberfest delicious as always. Schnitzel was yummy as well.
Yum! Great food and atmosphere. They will let you park there for events if you eat there. Excellent deal if you have an afternoon theatre or sports event.
Amazing food and the imported decorations are very unique.
Great environment and decor. Food is excellent German selection. The pretzel bread that is provided is wonderful. Good portions. Delicious authentic food. Large selection of German beers served in a nice mug which is available for purchase as well. In addition steins are for sale. Definitely a place for celebrating or meetings. Meals range from $20-50.
Omg the food was fantastic I have never had German food b4 and was not disappointed
Great bartender, gave us free samples of appetizers we never had before.
The food is great.
We went for Downtown Dining
Very nice lots of character with all the pics and autographs from over the years. THE FOOD IS VERY VERY GOOD. If your in MKE IT IS A MUST STOP FOOD DESTINATION. Prices are very reasonable. They won't disappoint.
Truly delicious, authentic, white table cloth German.
Top notch! Very rich German cuisine in a quiet, tucked away setting.
Milwaukee's oldest and favorite German restaurant. The sauerbraten is my favorite.
Super cool old school German restaurant. The food combined with the ambiance and service makes this place a must visit location.
Very nice, authentic food, excellent service and great company.
A great event restaurant with perfect theming and a high element of local history.
Currently sitting at a table in Maders for my wife's birthday. Arrived at 5:30 pm and was seated immediately. We ordered within 10 minutes of seating. Received appetizer very quickly. Entree took an hour to come to the table and was cold. Waitress apologized and took plates back to be heated. Food came back hot, 10 minutes later. Other diners are having the same issue. Something is obviously wrong in the kitchen. Other waitresses are apologizing to their tables for the wait.
Most likely won't come back for another round of this enjoyment.
Update: The manager came over and apologized, then informed us that our meal was taken care of and brought out a piece of cake for my wife's birthday. This was appreciated and we will try Maders on another day.
This was a beautiful restaurant to visit and very authentic. The German beer selection was wonderful and the food was prepared wonderfully and tasted great! I can see why many celebrities come to this restaurant to enjoy the experience.
I love the brunch. Excellent food. Nowhere can
compete especially with the German entrees. We love to make this a family excursion. The kids love the food. It is really nice. Great place to spend a Sunday afternoon
Authentic German food surrounded by antique artifacts from Germanic culture. My son had Weiner schnitzel, Kasseler Rippchen, and Rheinischer sauerbraten with potato dumpling, sauerkraut and red cabbage. I had a delicious chicken schnitzel with Black Forest mushroom sauce and spatzle. Wow, that and a pint of Weihenstephan Vitus (I think) made for an amazingly authentic German meal! And we sat at the same table Pres. Gerald Ford did in 1976.
Great brunches for special days. Have not been in for regular menu
It was suggested by our waiter that we could easily share the German Sampler which we did along with the Oxtail Soup and both were very good and filling. If you like German food, it would be recommended.
For sure you go once. You get the sampler and you pay for the ambience. If you want to get a good meal and good ambience and not break the bank, go with the pork shank because it is worth the money. I do not think the sampler is worth it. The spaetzle mac and cheese is really good. If you were on a budget but still wanted the maders experience I would get that and a beer in the Stein and call it a day. Then walk down to usingers and buy a pack of bratwurst and make your own German food for cheap.
The server Eric was wonderful!!! Treated us like Queens. We had all appetizers and every one was awesome. Loved loved loved the Reuben rolls!!
The food was outstanding, the service, not so much.
Went there December 22 with a party of 10. Pros: great ambiance and beautiful decor. Beer in glass boots was tasty. Portion size for food was quite large. Cons: the cocktails tasted more like sweet sodas. I consulted with 4 of my fellow diners after we left and unfortunately, we agreed the food was bland and just not very interesting to eat; eating felt like a chore we had to slog through. Is it possible that the famous Maders has rested on its famous laurels a bit too long? Time to spice things up (perhaps literally) and excite the taste buds a bit.
Fantastic! Service was impeccable, food delicious. All set in a proper German atmosphere, could have been in Munich.
The old fashion's were good but the bartender had some bad habits. Hopefully they aren't all that way. Gross
It was ok, had a particular smell I didnt care for. Food was good though.
Awesome. MUST have the baked pretzel. The Spotted Cow beer is fabulous
I had never eaten german food before and didn't think there would be many food choices I would like. I looked at the menu and couldn't even decide between the entrees many great selections!
The Reuban Rolls were amazing for the starter! Must try. The environment was great super authentic great things to look at while sitting.
Delicious & Historical! The service is outstanding!
The buffet is wonderful, with so many choices.open 365 days a years, maders saved Thanksgiving.
Good her man tap beer. Excellent atmosphere. It's a must stop.
Really nice atmosphere!! Great German food and beer!
Food were too greasy and didnt taste good. Decore was okay. staff wad okay and we didnt get food poisening.
Pretty authentic. Almost like home in Germany. Food was good. As good as it gets in the US, when it comes to German food.
The food is constantly well prepared and flavorful, cashiers provides excellent customer service. I loved how neat it is and vibes. Will visit here again.
Historic restaurant, very good food and service. A nice splurge on a family trip.
Very pleasant, old-style German restaurant. The schnitzel was quite tasty.
Absolutely beautiful place. Food was very expensive and lackluster. Very little flavor.
Super cool restaurant. Always friendly service. I didn't think I liked German food till I ate here. Now it's always a stop when we visit Milwaukee.
Just had a fabulous dinner at Maders. Our server Jackie was very friendly and knowledgeable. She contributed to our very enjoyable experience. Food was excellent and the atmosphere placed you in old Germany. We had the pleasure of meeting the owners daughter who thanked us for coming in for dinner. Can you believe that in today's society? Thank YOU Maders for keeping this German tradition alive. Milwaukee - please be sure to frequent your treasures, if you don't they'll fade away.
I *love* German food. I lived in Germany for a couple years and this really reminded me of my time there. That being said... the prices are tourist level high!! I ordered the pork schnitzel with jager sauce. The amount of sauce was lacking, and the depth of flavor not so great. Still... the ambiance was nice, just not sure it is worth the price.
Went on vacation and stopped here. Really enjoyed it.
Best German food not in Germany the platters are great if you want some of everything but the lamb shank is to die for.
Mader's carries a lot of memories for me. I think I first came here as a kid with my parents. Their Thanksgiving, and other holiday buffets are outstanding.
My recent visit was disappointing. I ate in the bar. Service was slow. The food dry, cool to temperature, pricey for what you get. French Onion soup is $10. The croutons inside stale and tough. The schnitzel had a great breading, but needed to be cut with a knife. The beef had great sauce but was tough. Usually it's tender and moist. No bread was served in the bar. It was a lackluster experience.
My previous memories are so strong with this restaurant. Never had a bad experience previously, but it will be awhile before I return.
Had a fantastic experience in this place with my wife. The food comes quick and the service is just awesome. Prices are convenient.
Excellent service and food in an amazingly significant german setting
Food was ok but I ve had better knodle and sauerbraten. Good selection of German beer and very nice Bavarian atmosphere.
This place serves authentic high quality German cuisine. The decor and ambience are outstanding. We enjoyed the food and the prompt service.
Loved it. Pork shank out of this world fall off the bone delicious.
A Milwaukee institution and of classic German cuisine and ambiance.
Appetizers are where it's at, but was $150 for family of 4 (two adults, 11, and 2) and everyone ate something they really enjoyed. Share plates and apps and you can't go wrong!
Some of the dishes are traditional german but the cooking is not as it should. But...even so it's a very good restaurant! It's old, classic, great deco, nice staff (specially the girl - don't remember the name). Recommend!
Meh. Cool decor, lots of history. Food was nothing to complain or rave about, and service was okay. Glad I tried it, but probably won't return.
