The history and ambiance alone is enough but when you add the GREAT FOOD and the ENTIRE STAFF Longfellow s Wayside Inn is worth visiting from all parts of the Globe. If you re in the area or within 100 miles this place is well worth the drive. Thank you for an amazing experience, Bill ( Films )
Cool place to explore and learn the history of, food was pretty good
Nice and cozy but a bit on the pricey side. Its a nice place for a special occasion. Food is pretty good but you are paying for the ambiance.
I was just here for a wedding on Saturday 8/17/19. This is the perfect place for a country wedding. The food and ALL Staff was amazing! Thank you again Linda and Mark!!
Beautifully restored colonial inn, setting for Longfellow 's Tales of a Wayside Inn, great food.
Very cool! Friend of mine's family used to own the place many generations ago, and she got to sign a book of descendants. Overall a very cute, nice place.
A place with wonderful atmosphere. Our large party had reservations and arrived early to enjoy the bar with a nice fireplace. The bartender was very friendly and even recognized us from a year ago. When we checked in for the reservation, we were 20 minutes early and they had the table ready. Every food item was delicious and gourmet. The prices are expensive, but extremely reasonable for the gourmet experience. And the service was fantastic with drinks always filled and orders of specialty drinks being promptly filled. Our server was extremely friendly and was great with recommendations and explanations of items on the menu. There is a reason I try to come here at least once a year.
Great historical landmark. We walked the surrounding area and had lunch. Prime rib was cooked beautifully and tasted great.
We attended a graduation party in a couple of rooms on the second floor. It is a beautiful building steeped in history. The wait staff were professional and friendly. The brunch buffet was tasty and fresh and replenished in a timely fashion.
Atmosphere was incredible! Had a really nice time! Boss hosted a holiday party here and it was beautiful... Food was great but a bit over priced in my opinion, likely paying for the ambiance though. Ended the night with a horse drawn carriage ride...
Very wonderful, quaint, hospitable, cozy, pleasing food, warm hospitality. Made our 50th anniversary very memorable. A must see. Loved every moment.
Our server Pam was incredible. Thanks so much for such a special night!
Neat place to visit..have yet to eat there..but a neat little historical site.
Not much to choose from in the menu but the staff was super friendly, i love the historic backround of the place too. Mark the maintenance guy was awesome and had a lot of knowledge of the place. I highly recommend staying here over night in room 9. We caught a shadow figure on video. The server Richard was excellent.
Full of character, staff are really nice and friendly. It is a mini museum too
It's always pleasure to be there. Good food, good ambiance, good people. The Inn itself and the grounds are beautiful.
Asked for a quiet room, was placed in Washington room, everything was great,!!!
The Wayside Inn and it's surrounding complex is a great place to visit, and the tavern is probably a great place to get the ambience of a 300 year old inn, but I would not recommend the restaurant. Our server was very pleasant, and our water glasses were kept full, but it took well over two hours for our dinner. Our soups soups were very good, but our main courses were mediocre at best, and our sides were worse. My apple pie was mush, and the Indian pudding was not much better. My advice is to visit the inn, but stay away from the restaurant.
Beautiful and the Oldest historic Inn in Mass.Great selection of choices, good portions, great prices. Lovely setting and grounds! Highly recommended!
Very friendly staff. Exceptional value. Lovely setting.
Love staying at the Wayside!! Service, food and overall atmosphere is amazing!!! Stayed in the "historical" rooms aka haunted rooms but no sightings of Jerusha...
Very professional staff. Lovely New England atmosphere. I would host an event here!
Ambiance is awesome, and the food is great. Very romantic.
Beautiful, quaint Colonial restaurant with SO many delicious and very reasonably priced items.
I am really happy that I had an opportunity to visit this amazing and authentic place. I was able to take a lot of beautiful pictures there and as a wedding photographer I can tell this place is really unique and special. I hope I will be able to come back there and to take even more beautiful pictures! :)
Excellent experience as usual. Never had a bad meal there.
Terrific place to have Thanksgiving dinner. We had a wonderful time the food was excellent. Marina was wonderful and took care of us like we were family.
Can't believe I had never been here before! Great atmosphere. Tasty food. Potent libations.
Great historic structure and grounds. Decent foods and great service. Enjoy walking the grounds after dinner. Lots to learn about.
We loved the food, the atmospere, it's history, and the fireplace. We miss the baked goods in the store but will return again and again. Keep up the good work.
The ambience was great. The food was pretty good (the green beans were cold). The service was pretty good (our server could have between a bit more attentive).
Step back in time for an Excellent Dining Experience.
It's a lovely historic place with okay food, but the food service is really awful.
Mediocre food, terrible service. French onion soup was not oven baked but instead was luke warm and had an inedibly hard cheesy block of french bread obviously thrown in at the end. Wife's iced tea tasted like mildew. They left a pat of whipped butter on our table like bread was coming, but it didn't. Either they forgot or the butter was from the previous customers. The entrees were ok, but not what I'd expect for an upscale local restaurant. The waiter never stayed long enough for us to complain and never asked us how our meal was. Never going back.
Loved the colonial feel with excellent food and service. The desert is really good too.
The Wayside Inn is such a treat! The food is delicious and priced right, the service is top notch, and the antique dining rooms are cozy and warm. A nice trip back in time!
Can t wait to return and stay for the night to spend a little time in the charming Tavern and stroll the beautiful grounds. A wonderful getaway close to Boston!
Good meal, great atmosphere. Always enjoy. Great for lunch as well.
Visited the preserved rooms and gift shop, and the adjacent Grist Mill. Charming place, I am glad to call New England my home
Went to a surprise bday party. Staff was professional, food outstanding, atmosphere was amazing. Excellent experience
Dinner was magnificent. Duck was juicy. Crab cakes were crispy and delicious.
We love this place. The ambience is amazing and the food is delicious. I love the real wood fires in the winter. A must visit if you're off the beaten track and find yourself in Sudbury.
Awesome place. Had a wonderful Christmas dinner party
Has been a great place for dinner for over 300 years.
Was here for a wedding. Enjoyed everything... Great historic location.
The Longfellow's Wayside Inn menu reflects many timeless classics and the Grist Mill on the property is still used to make the provisions like corn meal and flour, and some of their additional products are sold in their gift shop on site! The Wayside Inn
With over 200 years of history, Longfellow s Wayside Inn is the oldest operating inn on one of the oldest commissioned roads in the United States. The restaurants name comes from the fact that Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, was inspired when he stayed here to write Tales of a Wayside Inn. In a later post we will focus on the grounds and novelties, for now we will focus on the food.
While most of their menu focuses on old school New England Classics, they also offer items like Butternut Squash Ravioli in sage brown butter sauce to cater to all. The warm bread basket made with their own milled products is a nice touch. We were offered a hot spiked cider, which we were temped but decided to wait for next time.
The beauty of this place is there is so much history, justifying a return trip is easy. Especially if you have friends who love a taste of history.
Historical setting from the American Revolution and the longest continuously operating inn in the country.
Had a retirement party, good food and cool atmosphere.
Great food and atmosphere. Great for romantic night out
Great place to go for thanksgiving meal. Be prepared to call exactly 30 days in advance or else they'll be fully booked.
This is a beautiful old restaurant. We had dinner with some friends from Boston on Monday, June 18th. Our water was poured but we noticed right away that the glasses were dirty and there was something floating in the water. When we decided on dinner, the waitress mixed up my salad request and my husband wound up eating my salad. Eventually, I was brought another salad. My food was okay but it could have been hotter. I had salmon and my husband had chicken. While the atmosphere with the old charm was nice, I would not be in a rush to go back there again.
Our family stayed at the Wayside Inn for a night, with three rooms. We had a very relaxing time and enjoyed great food. The staff were "par excellence", above and beyond the service and hospitality beyond even a high end Marriotts Hotel. We will be back!
The food was fantastic. Marina, the woman who waited on my girlfriend and I, is a saint. All of the staff was incredibly friendly and courteous. And the table spacing for covid concerns was ample. What an excellent experience.
This is a antiquated institution to say the least, however that should be anticipated beforehand if you make the bizarre choice to dine here. I would avoid their restaurant as the service is laughable and the food quite mediocre, especially for the price. Our waitress was impressively rude and gruff with all manners of her service. Apparently you're supposed to know what kind of potatoes you want with dinner, even though they're not listed, or else you're met with a rapid fire rebuttal of choices lined by insulted cadence. Every question was answered with unwarranted hostility. Once she sulked her way around our large table, we received the appetizers half an evening later. The period of time between courses was incredible, and by dessert, our party was dreaming of exodus.
There was another waitress who was very nice and accommodating, who made appearances when ours was absent. This respite was appreciated, however your time and money will be wasted at this eatery.
Went for new years dinner with entire family. Was fantastic as usual.
Great dinner and atmosphere. The waitress was wonderful, very thoughtful.
The restaurant atmosphere was very classy and welcoming, the servers attention to detail was outstanding and the quality and taste of the food is 5 stars. Strongly recommended !
Friendly, helpful, and thoughtful staff. Delicious food. Turkey dinner!
Really great stop for visitors. Steeped in history. Visiting my home state from AZ, we went there to look around and show our kids some historical sites along the way to the Freedom Trail. They serve lunch, hold events and have a souvenir shop that has GREAT items including stuff crafted by local artisans.
Nice pleasant fancy lunch. Food was good and service attentive. $$$$
Great food , service is great , very friendly staff always willing to help! Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to eat. Great atmosphere
The food is always good and the staff is always friendly!
Historic site, pretty decent restaurant. Food is generally good, not always excellent. Nice staff and iconic New England setting. Must visit for tourists.
