The 1st pizzeria & best pizza. Look they invented pizza. I could go on and on about how good it is. How authentic is tastes. How cripsy the crust is. How delicious the cheese is. How sweet the sauce is. Wait what was I talking about? Oh right. It's delicious. There's always a wait, it does skew slight touristy, but I dont need someone visting to go, just a craving for pizza. Real pizza. The key is the coal fired brick oven I believe. I am under the impression this style oven is now illegal and you can only have one if you are grandfathered in, well since this is the grandfather of pizza it makes sense. This pizza is legit my friend. Enjoy.

Not that this place needs another great review, but if I could give them more than 5 stars I would. Great service and great food with reasonable prices. That's all you can ask for and they deliver it. Highly recommend the meatballs as a topping also.

Overrated pizza that is only a stop because of its claim as the first pizza in America. The sauce is bland and watery, basil was burnt and bitter, and there is so little cheese that you'll wonder why it costs almost $30. Seriously, there is better pizza elsewhere. Just because it's the first doesn't mean it's the best.

Their meatballs are delicious and tender. I would definitely eat them again. Oddly enough, they taste similar to those at Sheetz convenience stores.

This place is history standing. The first pizzeria in the US, est. 1905. I have been dying to come here after hearing the podcast on pizza from Stuff You Should Know. Food is damn good. I was surprised by the clam bake pizza but wow great pizza right there. You should go and relish in history

We ordered a margarita pizza with meatballs and pepperoni, it was very good. The dough is not one of the best I have tried but overall I would give it an 8 out of 10. We were touched by a very friendly waiter who also spoke Spanish to us. And the pizza plus a 1 liter bottle of water, $ 36.50 plus tip.

Pizza great. Inside just like I remember, but for $100 you would think one would get real plates instead of paper. I guess they are just accommodating the hipster phenomenon that has taken over the entire area. Not the NY I remember. They can keep it. Save yourself a $15 trip over the bridge and $60 in parking and go Brooklyn brick oven in hackensack.

My friend and I had a fairly good time there. The pizza we shared was huge and tasty. It wasn't the best pizza I ever had but it was very good nonetheless. One thing though: they only accept cash.

Went there for the touristy reasons as it claims to be the first pizza restaurant in the us. That s ... the only thing there is
-Price is high, but that is expected in fine dining in manhattan, but it s not fine dining, you get paper plates and plastic cup

Good service. Average food.

Good service. Average food.
$26 for a 1 topping 12 inch pizza is kinda crazy though.
Nostalgic? Yes
Worth it? No
Oh and its 2017 and they are cash only!

Not bad, but honestly for "America's first pizzeria" I was expecting better. Pizza is good, but not exceptional.
Service was ok, but a bit slow (without talking about the few times they brought us some food or bills that were not for us - but anyway I don't really care and/or based my rating on that).
And it's also a bit pricey for what it is. I clearly had better pizza at NYC.

My nephews brought us to eat in our trip to New York. When we arrived, they took us to another section of the restaurant quite hidden in a second floor. Ihad some red wine, and we ordered mozzarella cheese with salad, which I thought was really good. Then we had Ceasar salad, it was good ok. I was a little bit disappointed the pizza. In my opinion, I had very pizza in Orlando. Also, I thought if was tho expensive for my taste. Sorry, I don't think I'll go back. The service was good and attentive.

Delish!

Traveled all the way from Missouri with great reviews from family members who have visited before. We experienced fast service and great pizza. I know this will be a first stop to eat whenever we are in New York.

The pizza s here are okay, it was my first time in New York and I really wanted to try this place but I would not come back. There s nothing that really stands out about the pizza, it s not a bad pizza but it s not great either

This is the best pizza I've ever had. What makes this place special is the crust! Perfectly soft, crunchy and salty. Pure perfection. I'd suggest trying the classic Margherita pizza-it's a work of art. Outstanding service, too!

Really great New York style pizza. The option to mix and match toppings lets you get exactly what you want, and they are great at making a great pizza with whatever you choose. This place is usually packed so plan accordingly!

When one is in New York, one must have some pizza? But where when pizza is every where in nyc like every block?
.
This is one of the place i would come here, why? Well the history behind it, their service, the inside, and the pizza they serve. 'Tis is the regional location as well so it makes it more special.
.
Well if i cam by myself then maybe i will get a personal size pizza, but when i am with my new friend of course we order a big and share it. Before we came here i was browsing the menu and i saw clam pizza which has over 3 dozen of clam, i am sold.
.
when we got here there was only one hr left, so i ordered the clam pizza , which comes with no sauce, served on a thin crust pizza with lots of garlic, fresh olive oil, and basil. Every bite of the pizza was a crunch sound like your biting into a chip sound. The aroma is so garlicky and yummy. The clams was just all spread evenly so you don't even need to pick around with your fingers to make it even for every bite. The only thing missing was maybe some marinara sauce to dip my crust in. Anyways amazing quality for the high cost price $43 bucks i believe for a large size.
.
Overall it was worth coming to a independent first pizzeria over 100 years old. Serving something authentic and not your normal pizza was what capture my attention. Also a side note, there is a wonderful massage place near by so pizza and massage, what more can i say. Come here and give it a try and see what y'all think and let me know. Thanks for reading and have a yelptastic day.

Travis hit it on a head in his review. I'll summarize. 50+ for thin crust pizza and a sangria with a little cheese on it. CASH ONLY. Tourist spot, bragging rights for first pizzeria. Flimsy plastic cups? seriously? I think the advancements to pizza technology and recipes are much better today then 1905. It's a historical throwback to what pizza was. For that I love it. Should be tried at least once in life. If you do come here do consider getting one of the toppings bundles to get the most for your money. Enjoy your stay. Live a little.

Great pizza, I love going here but the line is always super long. You are lucky if the line is not out the door. Their pizza is amazing so if you actually do get in the door after waiting an hour or more (usually) you may think it was worth waiting that long.

I went alone just after the opening on weekdays!
Immediately after opening, there are no other customers except me, and more than half of seats will be filled in about 20 minutes!
Sure, I ordered a small 8 piece cut!
Because it was a thin dough, even one person ran out!
Good cheese!
Appetizers eaten by the person next to the seat seemed to be delicious, but it was impossible for one person (laughs)
I think it's recommended that you go with two or more people to eat a lot!

Well. NY's oldest Italian with a cult factor - I imagine something different.
Pizza was taste O.K., but from the paper plate ??? Really now! Cosiness and ambiance of the restaurant is probably in the eye of the beholder.
My conclusion: There is better in the town.

90 minute wait on a Tuesday evening at 6. Cash only so while they do have a service charge ATM it's frustrating they don't inform you of that while you're waiting (so you could go get cash at your own bank). There's one small sign hidden below waist height far inside the door that says cash only. Food was mediocre. If you're hoping for new york style pizza this is not the place. We had margarita and white pizza (the only 2 on the menu). Margarita was very bland, mostly a thin red sauce with very little flavor, only a few small dabs of cheese, maybe 4 basil leaves, and a burnt crust. White pizza was better, full of flavor and a good amount of cheese, but areas of it were also burned. Service was terrible. The busboy came around more often than our server anxiously waiting for the moment he could take the pizza trays. We were finished eating by 930, but it took the waiter until almost 10 to bring us our check and that was after I had to hunt him down and watch him write it out. Cute place and I assume the rest of the menu is better and that maybe thats why people flock here, but my guess is its because its a "historic" business. I would pass and try something else.

It s okay. They are definitely milking the whole historical aspect of eating here. At the end of the day, there are better pizza places to eat at.

And only stick to pizza. The other options offered here were wayyy to pricey for what you get. They also skimp out on the cheese at this place when you order a pizza. You can definitely tell that they are skipping corners here.

They did deliver our food on time. So at least that s good.

Trptro place expensive for the variety offered. They only have 4 types of pizza and none are Italian. $ 28 is too much for an American pizza. Ridiculous and always American appetizers, staff not very friendly and less available besides the fact that there is not even an Italian.
