The Little Rock Arkansas zoo has definitely gotten better over the years and it will continue to do so. They are in the process of getting a giraffe inclosure where they can breed them which would be wonderful for the species and for us.

Relatively flat walking throughout, there is a train that goes past the flamingos, petting zoo, and big turtles, a carousel "over the jumps" antique which dates back to 1924 at least and is 1 of 4 in the world with an undulating track.

My personal favorite exhibits are the Apes, Ostrich and Zebras and the bird / reptile house. There are also 2 small playgrounds for children and a petting zoo featuring goats to feed, cows, mini horses, donkies and sheep.

Great weekend event for the family or a date. They also host a slew of events through the year.

I like this Zoo. There are reviews that say the food is horrible and expensive. I had a hotdog and it was good. I know that part of the cost of the food is covering costs of the zoo. I pay because I love zoos. I started coming to this Zoo over 50 years ago. It is such better. The animals have dirt and trees and enrichment unlike the past when everything was concrete. If you don't want to pay for food, bring your own. This is a beautiful area.

Love this zoo but everytime I come you have a lot of animals not out. And when you got schools coming they should be out. I also do not appreciate having 5 schools there at a time that is to many people at one time and we couldn't even enjoy ourselves.

We have been to this event for several years, this is the first time we were disappointed. There was no candy throughout the entire place. They also had one of the paths closed. $80 for a family of 4 and not 1 peice of candy. Very disappointed...

I'm torn, and I wish I could give that fifth star. I love having the zoo in a central, accessible place in town. The landscaping is great - lots of shade, varied vegetation, and I really like that there are often tags identifying the species (of the vegetation, tree, etc.)
But it really seems like they must be operating with a proverbial hand tied behind the back - or perhaps running on autopilot. The zoo also seems behind the curve on natural habitats. (Maybe they just don't have the space. It is in the midst of the city, after all.) I didn't see any outright cages, but many enclosures seem dull and bare, with little (perhaps merely sufficient?) range for movement.
I did appreciate the signage and attention to our natural surroundings, conservation, and global stewardship. Even if the zoo can't be active in those areas (i.e. limited financially), reminding visitors that these animals are not just for our entertainment but part of a global ecosystem is a valuable contribution as well.
I should also note that I do think they do a good job for kids, and I'll certainly be bringing my toddlers back. It may not be perfect, but still a great place.

Clean zoo but not much else going on right now except to walk around and see the animals that are there. Many cages empty due to multiple reasons. Limited interaction and educational events with zoo staff and animals.

Nice place to take the grandkids. Annual memberships available to include the grandkids to make the zoo available throughout the year at a reasonable cost. Membership offers discounts on food and other items at the zoo and provides reduced entrance fees at other zoos across the nation.

I wouldn't go again, it was almost 80 dollars for my family of 5. You see very very few animals. Looks like the zoo is under construction or just unkept. If you do decide to go take my advice and bring water. They enforce no outside food or drinks but bring it anyway. Hide it if you have to. Nothing is open. Soda machines don't work, all inside animals habitats, all food venders, gift shop, carousel, train etc, all closed. There is no place to buy anything to drink. There were kids telling their parents they were thirsty. My kids were bored and wanted to leave.

This is a nice little zoo for the city! There are two playgrounds, one of which is right by the cafe so the kids can play while you wait for lunch. We get a membership each year and it pays for itself in about 2 or 3 visits.

This zoo is so awesome!!! We got in on a discount and we made the most of it
My husband and I took our 6 year old son and he didn't make it out of the parking lot. I highly recommend it to anyone else who has not been here. Be prepared for at least a 3-4 hour walk. And please please bring snacks.

A complete waste of$40! MY daughter and I decided to take my granddaughter. Most of the exhibits were closed and of course they don't tell you before you spend all that money. We only saw like 6 animals and most of those were monkeys. Wow has it went down hill from what it use to be. It was like throwing money right in the trash!

We had a great time at the zoo last weekend. I hadn't been in nearly 30 years. I was very pleasantly surprised at how much it had improved. The new farm animal section was impressive and my 2 1/2 year old loved seeing the farm animals that we have on our farm. We are looking forward to the sensory garden opening up soon. The food is a bit pricey but it always is at places like this. All the animals were quite active and appeared to be quite healthy and happy. We will be visiting again very soon.

We love the LR Zoo! It is a smaller zoo but there are tons of animals. Wish they had all the little snack venues open and water fountains working so that on hot days a drink could be a little more accessible. We do really enjoy the mist stations to cool off. We also love seeing the penguins. They have a better penguins set up than Memphis in my opinion.

The Little Rock Zoo may not be the biggest Zoo around, I can see it all in an afternoon, it's quite enjoyable. I got to oggle at otters, look at lions, and peer at penguins. That's one of the LR Zoo's best attractions. There were cute signs through out (Give the graphic designer a raise), and the Zoo staff was extremely helpful. The zoo also has many social distancing measures in place, allowing all to enjoy the Zoo, while staying safe. Overall, a great experience, and a good use of an afternoon.

It is not as good as Zoo's found in larger cities for sure, but I would say it is a fun little zoo. The Heifer International exhibit was very cool. I would also suggest you stop by to see the penguin feedings. My two and a half year old loved them.

Wanted to give it 2 stars. My son and his family came from ND and I thought the zoo would be a great place to go. Boy was I disapointed. For the price we paid to get in thought it was going to be great... A lot of animals were off exhibit. The zoo was not very clean. The food in the cafe was great. Very disappointing.

Went to the zoo on 11/13. The animals we saw looked healthy and well cared for. It was cold and I guess a lot of the animals were in their shelters so we didn't see many. But several displays were closed or the animals had been removed. If I had known this I probably would have made others plans for the day. It would have been nice if this was noted on the website.
I was disappointed in general condition of the zoo. Piles of leaves were everywhere and there was a good amount of trash on the ground. There were many staff members there engaged in cleaning up the grounds but it looks like that was let go for a good while. The staff members I talked to were friendly and helpful. The food at the Africa Cafe was good and reasonably priced.

They're working really hard to renovate. The zoo is 90ish years old, but they've got some cool animals. It was pretty slow when we went, so there were zoo employees who could chat and tell us about the animals.

We visited on a hot day and no running water was present for the Ocelot, Serval, and clouded leopard enclosures. The animals were panting and visibly distressed. Totally heartbreaking. Water availability and temperature control should be addressed immediately by the Little Rock Zoo.

I don't know what to say, I love the Little Rock Zoo. It's a nice place to walk around (especially if you can manage to go in the daytime on, say, a Monday when most people are at work or in school). They've really put a lot of work into it since I was a kid and we used to come for field trips. It seems like they're constantly in a state of improvement and I'm pretty excited about some of the new projects they're currently working on.
The only thing that really disappoints me is that I've never managed to visit on a day when the lorikeet exhibit is open, but I'm sure that I'll manage later this spring.
Overall, I do wish that there were a few more animals or that the current animals had a bit more room in their enclosures, but the zoo is totally landlocked and there's not much that they can do in that regard. For the most part, I'm really pleased with the way the zoo uses the space that it has, however limited that may be.
I'll definitely return (many times), because I'm just a bit proud of our little old zoo and the conservation and education work that it does here in central Arkansas.

This zoo is awesome. The people in Little Rock are lucky to have such a great zoo. For a town this size this zoo is way above expectations. It's very clean and spacious. The animals have great space and lots are very active in the morning. They have a wide range and manage them in a way for easy viewing. Most animals have way more space here than in most other zoos in the country. I have to say I loved this place.

The cost for a family of 5 was outrageous plus the cost of feeding that family of 5 considering the lack of animals. One animal taking up the space of three because you had no animals to fill the cages. And this problem seems to be every three cages. I can understand why the Zoo is in trouble with accreditation. I will not be taking my family back until there are great improvements! It's not that far to the Memphis Zoo.

This is a great place to take the family. They have convient parking. There are great displays and a wide selection of zoo life to look at. They have places to cool off and buy concessions. Have a cold drink or ice cream. Enjoy your day here.

Great experience with grandchildren, especially. Great "engineer" and ticket taker on the little train!! Wonderful lunch!! Great flavor and price a little on the high side but worth it!! Unfortunately, some animals not out because of cooler weather - couldn't be helped. Eryn nice gift shop!!
