Came here to watch some great live music on a Friday night. Very friendly place. Didn't realise until later in the night that this place has 3 floors including a great cosy beer garden on the roof. Make sure you explore all the nooks and crannies of this pub.

This used to be one of my favourite pubs in Brighton, and is still very much worth a visit for a drink. However, last time I ate here the food wasn t really up to scratch. One of the meals was supposed to be a cheese platter and came with a few lumps of one cheese and missing several components described on the menu. I think the food can be good or bad here depending on the day...

This is known to be a great pub with good food, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere.

Unfortunately, our Christmas dinner experience last weekend was very disappointing. All three courses were very average, we had to return some starters as they were burned, the turkey main was lukewarm, vegetables undercooked, and most desserts were less than average - i.e. apple crumble was sour with a lukewarm, very runny custard. I left a picture below of a very average looking attempt of a dessert - coconut sorbet, less than a scoop and already melting as it arrived. The staff on Saturday evening appeared inexperienced and very inattentive.

We chose The Lion & Lobster for our Christmas dinner with friends because it was known to be a guarantee of quality but unfortunately, we left very disappointed!

Can't understand the mixed reviews with respect to food. Just had a Hake Fillet and a pizza. For pub food it was great. If you want Michelin restaurant standard make the appropriate choice. Lovely vibe for a Tuesday evening and dog friendly. I'm only passing through Hove after a gap of 31 years but we will return again. Did I mention it was dog friendly? :-) keep up the good work guys

Cool old style Brighton pub that serves food in pub & upstairs restaurant. Food good with decent number of veggie options on menu. It's our little groups go to place. Quaint and quirky....

Amazing pub - one of the best places to drink in the whole city. With a great atmosphere at any time of day, and loads of places to sit down, I couldn't recommend this pub enough. Another good place to watch sport with loads of screens around, you won't be disappointed.

Ive yet to try the food here, but I've heard only good things about it and can't wait to tuck in. Prices are about average as well, so won't break the bank drinking here.

Very friendly place a classic English pub. Nice food and roasts on Sunday. Excellent for a night out, with restaurant until 10pm and bar food (pizzas dough balls, chicken wings) served till very late. Meet Donald at the end of the bar, next to the powder room and buy him a Brokeback Mountain drink to hear interesting facts about everything!

We had a problem with the pie as it came without pastry as the chef ran out of it so it wasn't really a pie. We were never told and we felt a bit disappointed. When we told the waitresses they apologised and offered a discount however it never happened and it felt very awkward to ask them about it. So, food was good but nothing special and service was poor

Wonderful pub over three floors, widely considered one of the best pubs in Brighton for it's charm, upstairs garden/smoking area bar, sports and quizzes. Mix of local community pub, great food, great staff, great service.

Cosy

Large English pub that has three floors. Very nice atmospheric interior with a lot of sitting place. Helpful and nice staff. Good selection of beers and drinks. Crowdy and popular with locals. Kitchen is open until late and includes pub and restourant menu. Highly recommended

I've always loved this pub. Unfortunately they've changed the roof garden a bit but still great. However the last time I went the food was a big let down. I had the seafood platter which wasn't very good at all and the burgers were bland. So I'll be back ... but not for food

We booked a table, were friendly greeted and shown to our table. Staff were on hand and taking table orders, never once felt like we had to get attention as staff were doing their jobs amazingly well and checking on us for drinks etc. Thai green curry was lovely but I should have gone for extra chili as it was quite mild. Everyone else on our table also really rated the food (they had steak). Definitely need to book as it gets very busy! Great food, staff and surroundings (check out the art work on the walls, you'll find some gems!)

Traditional cosy neighbourhood pub with excellent Sunday roasts. The roasts were delicious with plenty of different veg and great Yorkshire puddings. Lamb shanks were generous and beef was still pink as it should be. Very friendly staff and good value. It gets super busy, so book ahead.

A very atmospheric pub hidden in Brighton. Done corners of the pub can be a dark, but that adds to the atmosphere. The food was delicious, I highly recommend the platters, they offer good choice of different dishes whilst being delicious. The girl behind the counter was super friendly and bubbly, such created a really welcoming experience. They also let dogs visit the pub!

Arrived at 8:30 for dinner. We casually had drinks and told the waitress we d order in a bit, she agreed: Ordered our food at 9:00pm to then be told the ovens and hobs had been turned off already and food service was over?!? Why didn t any of the staff, serving drinks tell us this. We came all the way from London for the weekend, chose the Lobster and Lion because of reviews....won t be doing that again!

Great looking 'propper' pub but the food and service was very mediocre. We had to queue for 15 minutes to order additional bread so we could finish our meals as the waitress wouldn't let us order it with her, no side plates were given (when eating a sharing board) and the meat and veggie platters had an odd mix of food on them. Nonetheless, we had a good time there.

Ok... We read the reviews and and were prepared for good pub food, honest, not fancy, just good fare.
We arrived, we had a small dog, we recieved a welcome by lovely staff, we were truly excited to find an enchanting pub that had a wonderful atmosphere.
We ordered drinks at the bar, fab real ale, good choice of wine, then we ordered food, great selection.
My son went for fish and chips, my wife and I a selection of tasty looking snack plates, pitta and dips, deep fried squid, coriander prawns, pate, smoked fish and potato, all sounded great.
Oh my goodness, the food was quite appalling, none of the dips were prepared, they were definitely all bought, but from where I honestly don't know, you would struggle to find hummus, salsa, guacamole as bad as this. The prawns I couldn't eat, they smelled of death, my wife's dip for the awful falafel completely rock hard frozen.
My son's fish was fine.
We were asked if the food was ok and I did explain my feelings.
I did say, I don't want a refund or anything like that, I just wanted them to know we really loved the place, but the food was appalling.
The nice chap was a little embarrassed and informed us he appreciated the feedback and would pass it on to the management.
I hope he did.
Guys you have a wonderful place with great staff.
Don't serve cheap long life petrol station dips, burnt pitta, bad prawns, soggy squid, frozen hard chips, very odd tasting mushy peas.
Come on!!!!!! Please don't think the public won't know the difference.
You would.....
