Great pub - food not up to scratch. Have eaten here before and the food in the restaurant has usually been very good. This night we had seafood risotto and roast chicken. Risotto was poor, the seafood sauce was almost exclusively chopped mussels and mushrooms. The rice used was a long grain and tasted of nothing - no Parmigiano in the rice at all (the dish came in separate portions which was strange in itself) The sauce for the chicken tasted very acidic with no flavour. I'm hoping this was just a bad night from the chef but for the money we pay if we get this quality again we'd have to think twice about going again. Great, great pub though - one of the best in B&H.

Best pub in Brighton in my humble opinion. Lots going for it and it's worth the little walk from the centre of Brighton to get there. The Sunday roasts are out of this world, as are the staff too. I only wish it was still a B&B...

i just moved around the corned and been meaning to have a roast here for ages! booking in advance is essential as they are always super busy & quite rightly so. we booked for 4pm and it was still rammed. Roast was delicious, loads of it and meat was cooked perfectly even thought we where a late roast.
i would of liked a starter and a pudding though (coz over eating is what sundays are for!) but the Sunday Menu is literally just a choice of roasts, with a Bloody Mary for starter, sadly neither myself or my boyfriend like bloody marys so we just shared the Capresse Salad as a starter (they didnt have any bread tho :( Staff where extremely helpfull even though they where very busy. Reasonably priced.

Really busy and we did not book, so we were only had the option to sit outside and order from the bar. The dishes I got (pork) was so incredibly dry that it was hard to eat. The other dishes that we ordered were ok.

What a great pub! A maze of rooms making up the bar downstairs, plus a restaurant upstairs. I wasn't lucky enough to partake of the delicious looking food but the menu was full of choices and reasonably priced too. Well worth a stop in if you are around.

Had heard great things about the Lion and Lobster but was disappointed. Ordered a pork belly roast - crackling was like rubber and the food tasted like it had lingered on a hot plate for far too long, the gravy especially was really stodgy. The service was ok but seemed a bit fire and forget with their customers. Finally my drink (a coke) was flat. The decor was nice and the rooms round the back seemed ideal for a cheap romantic dinner. I wanted to like the place and maybe I came on a bad day but I felt distinctly unimpressed.

Fantastic experience at The Lion & Lobster, we had a party of 15, all our meals came out at once, all options were catered for, the food was delicious, and the friendly staff couldn't have been any more helpful - 5 star!!

This is a great place with plenty of atmosphere, if perhaps a little seedy. As a single unacompanied male I found the all female staff treated me with an air of disdain, clearly I wasn't one of their tribe. The beer however was excellent & the whole building had plenty of nooks & crannies to explore, especially upstairs where the outside balcony & fireplace was a joy to discover. The whole building & furnishings did feel as though they needed a thoroughly deep cleaning after years of beer & god only knows what else being sprayed across the walls.

I would love to rediscover this establishment on my next foray into Brighton, however I would feel more comfortable by being escorted by an attractive female or several. Perhaps then the bar staff would then treat me with more conviviality.

All in all, a worthwhile experience, definitely one for the ladies.

Friendly, eclectic mix of drinks, food & people!
Several floors, three bars & an internal smoking terrace (with an open fire, for those inclement British evenings!) & various books & crannies, means there's literally somewhere for everyone!

Waited half an hour for our table to be ready even though we had booked days in advance but besides that everything was great. Staff were a bit frazzled and stressed out as it was busy but they still got the job done!

My daughter has taken me here a few times over the years when I have visited her. However this was my first time going solo and I was not disappointed at all. I had been advised to go on a Sunday evening, only to be delighted with the performance of a magical Jazz Trio. I discovered that they have been playing there for 20 years every Sunday. What a find and record. The place is cookie and cool all at the same time and the staff were great. I like real Ales and there were plenty to enjoy. Thanks guys. Great evening.

eaten here many times before. the standard and quality of food has massively reduced. we were a table of 4 with two of us going for the fish and chips and the other going for the venison. the venison came with cold roast potatoes instead of the dauphinoise on the menu. when we let the waitress know she said she would report it to the kitchen. When we came to pay the bill we asked to take the 10% service charge off, not noticed this before and when we explained what had been wrong with the food we got an insincere apology. The service was also terribly slow and overall a disappointing experience.

Any place that has Motorhead Ale on tap is a place worth visiting. But yeah, this pub is pretty fab too! Staff are fantastic and friendly as well. Have yet to try the menu but it looks good from what I've seen!

It's a lovely building and the staff are great but the clientele on the half a dozen times I've been are almost insufferable, sometimes it's the oddly misplaced braying nouveau's, the cliquey hyper locals or maybe the Aperol spritz drinking pretty young things spending daddy's money and letting you know about oh so loudly from three tables away, or (and this is a real possibility) I'm a miserable swine who doesn't like busy pubs full of people enjoying themselves

About Lion and Lobster

Lion and Lobster: A Traditional Pub with a Unique Twist

If you're looking for a traditional pub experience with a unique twist, look no further than Lion and Lobster. Spread over three floors, this establishment offers something for everyone, from the cozy pub area to the elegant Regency Restaurant and the hidden terrace that's perfect for warm summer evenings.

Located in Brighton and Hove, Lion and Lobster is one of the oldest pubs in the area. Despite its age, it has managed to maintain its charm and character over the years. The interior is crammed with an eclectic mix of pictures, bric-a-brac, and other fascinating curios that give it a truly unique feel.

Speaking of meals, Lion and Lobster has plenty to offer on that front as well. The Regency Restaurant serves up delicious food made from locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. From classic British dishes like fish & chips to more exotic fare like Moroccan spiced lamb rump or pan-fried sea bass fillet with chorizo & butterbean cassoulet - there's something for every taste bud here.

Of course, no visit to Lion and Lobster would be complete without trying some of their excellent drinks selection. They have an extensive wine list featuring bottles from all over the world as well as local beers on tap including Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter which is brewed just down the road in Lewes.

But what really sets Lion and Lobster apart from other pubs in Brighton is its hidden terrace. Tucked away at the back of the building behind an unassuming door lies a beautiful outdoor space that's perfect for enjoying drinks or dinner al fresco during warmer months.

Booking online at LionandLobster.co.uk couldn't be easier either - simply select your preferred date/time/number of guests then sit back knowing everything will be taken care of when you arrive!

In conclusion, if you're looking for an authentic pub experience with great food & drink options plus plenty of character then look no further than Lion & Lobster! With friendly staff ready to welcome you into their homey atmosphere along with delicious meals made using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible – this place truly stands out among others in Brighton’s bustling scene!
