Awesome Mediterranean restaurant! Friendly staff and fast service. Grab an appetizer plate and Pita bread to enjoy before lunch or dinner. Great tasting food! Make sure you enjoy a cappuccino before or post the main course.

I personally like the bundled dinner, it has all the highlights in small dishes and reasonably priced. I usually go to dinner there on the late side, after 8, and it's fairly calm.

I usually don t enjoy mediterranean food but I loved this place!! The food was amazing and so fresh! The waiters are super nice and bring your food in on time. The baklava is delicious with the right amount of sugar and is just wow. An amazing restaurant to visit and definitely worth it.

This is one of the best restaurants in Berkeley! It has been my mother's favorite place since the 80s when she went to Cal! The food is amazing, authentic, and so fresh. The portions are huge, worth the price.
I love the lamb kebab plate. This last time I got the Middle Eastern Plate which is a sampler of a lot of the other dishes. The potato salad isn't like anything you've ever had before, and is so good!
I also got the cheesecake for dessert. Delicious. The chocolate mousse is also some of the best I've ever had. I frequent this place and you should too!

Food was delish! Had the Mediterranean plate. Lots of food for $15. Staff was attentive. Restaurant is small and usually crowded. A bit noisy. Was a little quieter outside on the sidewalk tables, where we sat.

Love this long-time favorite. Classic plates well executed. Generous portions. Warm, friendly service. Pomegranate chicken, yum. Mediterranean plate, yum. Quiche, yum. Creamy cappuccino, yum.

Authentic Mediterranean food in one of the oldest and most renowned restaurants in Berkeley! Located in the great neighborhood of Elmwood, this place is a perfect escape from the Berkeley campus influence. The food speaks for itself. Ordered the vegetarian platter, which came with an assortment of items, made with fresh ingredients. Prices are medium to high for a single meal on a student budget (around 15-20 with tip.) The only thing I would like to see is having Baklava included in the platter. :)

Place has the same old world "ambience" as the others I have visited. The food was good and the service also but it felt very tight. A small table was unusable because of lack of space. The big negative was not being comfortable because of the cold, especially when the door was opened. It was a cold day.

Absolutely the best Mediterranean food I've tasted! The filo pastry dishes, falafel sandwich and the appetizers are amazing and the portions are more than sufficient. They are usually packed even on weekdays. So be there early.

Food was all right, nothing special. Service was very slow - had to actively catch waitress after 30 minutes of waiting to order food, proceeded to wait another 30 minutes for food. Not a fan, would not return.

Decent Mediterranean place on college. Slightly strange food arrangements (slice of banana, slice of cheese). Salad was so so, my meatballs were not bad. Does the job but wouldn't go out of my way to go here.

Service was friendly but was a bit on the slow side given how not crowded it was as well.

Have only been here twice but have had a lovely experience each time. Pleasant staff, low pressure experience. If you want help, they're there, of you just want to enjoy the company, they leave you alone.

Always good service, great food. The chicken kabobs are amazing. <3 Parking can be a challenge depending on the day and time, but I've never not been able to find a space within a block, eventually.

Reasonable place. Good prices, food 8/10 (in my opinion), service very good, and fast! The place itself its really simple, don't expect too much, it's not a fancy place.. Perfect to stop by eat something quickly and come back to your trip.

Loved the incredible flavors of various seasonings and overall presentation of the meals. The waiters and waitresses are very knowledgeable on what is on the menu. Recommend this place to anyone that is going on a date or a nice outing with friends & family.

Went to La Mediterranee last night with my sister and friend. I've been to the location in Pac Heights and the menu seems different to me at the Berkeley location. We ordered the large sample platter to share, which was good. It included hummus, wrapped grape leaves, pita bread, tabbouleh and a few other items. For our mains my sister got the pomegranate chicken and I had the sampler platter, so I could try a variety of things. Everything was good but nothing exactly stood out or wowed me. I prefer the Pac Heights location in San Francisco, but this is a good option. They have outdoor seating as well which is nice on days with beautiful weather.

Great Mediterranean food, this place is my standard to measure all other Mediterranean restaurants by. The pomegranate chicken is divine. It falls right off the bone and is succulent with wonderful flavor. Wonderful dolmas that they still make in the restaurant. The sides are wonderful too. Great staff, many have been there for years, it is a family restaurant and they are still there running the place.

I d wanted to try this restaurant for the last several years but never ended up going until recently. I noticed that they had a heated and sheltered patio which, during this winter in the Covid era, was very appealing. The food was excellent and the chicken kabobs I got were tender and well seasoned. Elmwood is such a charming location as well.

This is my wife's favorite restaurant. Not your typical mediterranean food: light, fresh, and unique. We particularly like the fillo dough specialties, but we also appreciate the gluten-free options.

This old standby is still producing delicious Mediterranean food in the Elwood. I love the pomegranate chicken as well as the three fillo plate and Middle Eastern plate with chicken cilicia fillo, Grecian spinach and feta fillo and a levant sandwich. The silky smooth hummus is outstanding.

The waiter(owner?) Was very short with us. Busy or not, every customer counts, and we were a table of 7. He was in such a rush with us that he missed an item we asked for. To cover it, he rudely rolled his eyes and brushed it off with a wave of his hand. No apology at all. And we still never got the missing item. We were here with regulars who told us it wasn't as busy as normal so no excuse there. The food is fair but there are better places in Berkeley with much more polite and attentive service.

A longtime favorite, where my husband and I went on our second date, and we still go there almost 30 years later. One of the first places I had Mediterranean food in the US, and the sampler plate is still a favorite. Busy and often crowded, it still always seems festive and fun, and the outdoor tables can be very nice as well.

I've just tried this food: (Middle Eastern Plate).
Ingredients were all prepackaged food. They just warmed them up and brought them for me. After tip and drink I paid 20$. It was not worth.

It's been a while since I last visited Cafe La Med in Berkeley and ordered take-out of my favorite - pomegranate chicken. Sadly, since they were sold, the quality is not what it was. In the past you would get a little piece of cheese, a little piece of banana and a little piece of pineapple along with the entre. These were all missing. You also got hummus with a little slice of carrot and some full pieces of pita. This order had little pieces of pita that might as well have been white sandwich bread. The hummus came in a little plastic container and had very little flavor. I ordered the potato salad, which was OK, as the side which was slapped into a separate cardboard box. The menu has obviously changed for the worse. The chicken and rice overpowered with sweetness with not much finesse. Perhaps you get what I used to expect if you eat at the restaurant. Perhaps the lack of the little niceties is for money savings. I d be happy to pay a few bucks more to get back my delicious chicken pomegranate of old.
