Great weekend getaway for SoCal residents. Rooms are well-appointed and staff is friendly and helpful.
Love the rooms here. They come with their own hot tub!
Casa Del Zorro is a beautiful and historic property! I have stayed here countless times over 30+ years. Unfortunately, the current management is running it into the ground!
The Copley family (SD Union) owned this for many years and maintained it as a place they could welcome their friends and guests. It was purchased and eventually shut down by an investor with big dreams. I am so glad that this historic treasure was purchased and re-opened!
I hope the current owners recognize the amazing property that they have purchased and recruit a management team that will recognize the importance of maintaining the legacy of this property. Hospitality has been the hallmark of this property from the moment that guests first arrived at the porte cochere. The guest knew immediately that they had arrived at a destination where they were acknowledged and appreciated.
The current manager appears to have skipped some (or all) of his classes starting with Hospitality 100. Perhaps he has no degree and no real interest in hotel management? While this is Borrego Springs, this property deserves management that honors the guests in the similar gracious manner fostered by the Copleys during their stewardship of this property for the past 50 years.
We loved soaking in the hot tub after a long day of hiking to unwind before dinner. Pools everywhere! Live music in the Fox Cantina Saturday night enhanced the whole experience.
Friendly hotel lost in the desert! Prepare to endure great heat luckily the swimming pools are there !! But that's all unfortunately !!
Several little surprises during our stay
- $ 400 deducted on our arrival for 3 nights which correspond to the cost of cleaning and maintenance finally brief !! It increases the note
- wifi! A real pain! We are disconnected every 2 seconds !!
- the restaurants !! Uh! In truth there is only one! Who for the hotel corresponds to 3 ?? We tried to have explanations but they are unable to give us one !! The pool bar closed! The butterfield closed! The dinning and the Rosa are exactly the same restaurant !!
- no hot water! It is hot even very hot during the day but it is an option in this hotel to have hot water! It is clear everything is done to refresh you !!
Otherwise the room is good is spacious! Lack of storage! The bathroom is great despite the lack of hot water! Eat is done every day! Do not rely too much on the water bottles in the fridge you have two when you arrive and that's it !!!
Watch out for surprises !!
If you want to eat local and not in their non-existent restaurants which are very expensive for what they offer go to Carlee's 15 min in the town of Borrego Springs (small restaurant in town but the food is top notch and the prices are more than reasonable )
Otherwise no stay up to you !!
Weather wasn't great. Accommodation was great.
Exceeded our expectations. Good food and a very nice room.
I'm amazed that servers & other assiciates at the hotel have little energy or engagement with guests. We had breakfast twice and dinner once. At each sitting, a server approached us and asked, "are you ready to order?" It was never, "Good morning", "Good evening", "How are you?". Also, no one asked if we wanted to start dinner with a cocktail or appetizer, just "ready to order?" Once we did order, drinks took forever (e.g., 30 minutes to obtain coffee after ordering at breakfast). We won't be back!
The resort is really nice and big. Multiple pools to use and still practice social distancing. If you stay in one of the rooms make sure to ask for the 1st floor so you can have access to the fool from your room. You can also rent one of their small homes and have a pool to yourself. The staff there is really nice and helpful.
They have later dining hours and that's what we needed. The food was fantastic. They tend to cook their steaks on the rarer side. Nice ambiance and there was live music playing in the saloon on Saturday evening which lightly flowed into the dining area. Service was top notch. Highly recommend.
We stayed in a one bedroom casita with a private hot tub. The room is wonderful, very cozy and comfy. We stayed in August, so thankfully the rooms have great A/C and the shutters make the room dark.
The ground are impeccably maintained, and the main pool is the cleanest I've ever seen. The resort is large with a variety of dining options, but for great food that's a l'il cheaper, head to Carlees in Borrego springs.
Fantastic resort! Multiple tennis courts, multiple pools, lots of outdoor activities. I'm sure the weather is better in the winter than in the Summer (when I visited), but the grounds and facilities are great, with a friendly staff. The rooms are spacious, and the spa services looked nice (though I didn't try any of them). The gift shop was pretty sparse, but it seemed like a good place for a quiet, relaxing getaway.
This is a top notch resort in every way. It's expensive but worth it. Tip - if you like the heat, come in the summer when rates are about half.
Staff were friendly, they took us around to see the stars. They let us cancel without complaint. Overall good hotels. Many pools and features. Would visit again.
This is our third visit to La Casa del Zorro and it is a beautiful resort in a perfect location for us to enjoy all that Borrego Springs and Anza Borrego Desert have to offer. Our pool side room was fantastic but sometimes customer service is less than exceptional.
Very very beautiful place. Astonishing to find this hotel in the middle of the desert. The food is excellent and beautifully presented.
Come out here and relax and unwind. This is San Diego's Palm Springs. It is, however, always very quiet. Enjoy the close desert hiking and quirky shops in the city centre.
One of the best times ever. I can't say enough about La Casa del Zorro. Please give yourself a treat and stay a night or two.
I took my friend to have dinner at LA Casa Del Zorro and she was very impressed. Service and food were great. I will definitely come back
It is a beautiful resort with friendly staff. We didn't stay there but my niece did and she loved it.
Love this place! My first time was over 35 years ago. Still awesome!
Such a great place. Great staff, awesome rooms. So classic.
Beautifully laid out resort with tons of amenities. Slightly adult centric. Butterfield restaurant is top notch. Pools are quite nice. Waking path. Stargazing. Life size chess. Horseshoes. Tennis. Gym. Yoga. To name a few
Great old school resort. Staff was great! Rooms were much better than expected. The family loved the restaurant. It was summer so it was HOT! Loved the grounds and staff was amazing.
Great place to relax but the gym should be open 24hrs for the members and guests that need to be at work early and work late. It's not near anyone that's sleeping so nobody will hear anyone working out....like me who stood at the locked gate for an hour before finding out it dont open till after 7.
A great property. Bob at the Fox Bar was great. Definitely worth a visit in spring. Worth coming back
Been here twice. Excellent all around. Not many people here the last two times I have come and even if there are several, it nice feeling as if it's just you and your companion.
Nice place to escape to the desert. Hot, hot, hot... The bungalows with private pools are the way to go.
This place is amazing the best 3 day weekend .This place has amazing staff and A/C and lot's of pools and just a couple of minutes away from the town where there's additional food choices.
We went to their annual Easter Brunch. It was good. Not a huge selection, but everything was tasty, and well prepared. There are probably better buffets for the price in a big city, but this was a relaxing, pleasant experience, and probably the best Easter Brunch in the Borrego Springs area.
Was so glad to see it open again. We drove by about 5 or 6 years ago and was sad to see the shape it was in. My husband and I used to go there a couple times a year for our "mini" vacations. We love it there. Just hope it hasn't changed much. We are planning a trip soon.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom casita. The price was excellent for the accommodations. The staff is superior and really goes above and beyond. The food is delicious! Will definitely return.
The casitas are amazing. Perfect for star gazing. Outstanding service.
Pricey for average person but an excellent place to 'splurge'. They very often have Great music like IZON EDEN!!
Truly truly loved our stay, however, left us wanting more. The room was absolutely gorgeous and the resort was beautiful as well. Our room was right next to a beautiful pool. There were some kids so we decided to walk around the resort and swim in the Olympic size pool which was heavenly. We settled into one of the canopies and enjoyed the resort life! The issues we had were we paid extra for the telescope and we didn't even get to use it because the hotel failed to tell us that the key telescope parts were in a hidden compartment zipper in the backpack. Very frustrating as we missed out on an experience that we paid more for! And when we mentioned it to the front desk manager he seemed unapologetic. The second was the food and service at dinner was horrible. OVER priced and not very good. The rib eye steak was all fatty and not pleasant. However, breakfast was the complete opposite. The service with Patty was incredible and the food was delicious. So as much as we loved this place and would love to have given it 5 stars, I just cant based on dinner and some other short comings.
I did notstay in the rooms but they have an amazing pool area with a hot tub. Great for laps. Make sure to catch free yoga too!
My boyfriend planned my birthday weekend at La Casa del Zorro resort and it was AMAZING. The decor, the ambience, the extremely friendly staff and most importantly, the STARS, was exceptional. When we checked, we met the manager Curley and he was very welcoming. Maybe because my boyfriend is such a charismatic man, but he gave us a history of the place, the amenities, the views and it was very informative. The restaurant staff were extremely sweet. Our service was fast and they took care of us. My boyfriend got the steak and wanted it well done. Yuck! Haha. The meat was initially brought medium well and our waiter did not flinch, took the steak away and made it perfect for him. I had the Chilean sea bass and it was DELISH! Personally recommended by our waiter and it was true. He was trustworthy with his recommendations. So, I recommend, without reservations. The wines list is extensive and paired with your food as desired. I didnt handle the check but I'm sure it cost a pretty penny but I would say it is worth every penny.
A really nice place. Good pools. My son lived the place.
Excellant place to relax in privacy with there casts that have their own private pool! Excellant food and drink. The grounds are very well maintained. Pools are everywhere if you do not get a casita. The spa is excellant. Tennis courts olympic size pool with cabanas next to the courts. They have baci ball courts, shuffle board. They have a life size chess board and ping pong. There is great golf courses near by. This place is by itself in Borrego Springs. The staff will go out of their way to make your stay a memorable one.
Great food. The casida we stayed in (#70) needs updating but we got a discount.
Came for the peace and quite and had two nights in a row of loud music from the bar patio! Not what we came to Borrego for! Asked if something special was going on with bands out side Friday and Saturday and was told they have LOUD music outside on the patio every Friday and Saturday night. If you want to sit outside and enjoy the dark sky and in a peaceful environment don't stay here! The service was kind of sucky also!
It's has its charm. It is just an old hotel that has been remodeled. I don't think it's worth the price as a leisure hotel.
The people are nice. The linens are clean. The handicap room is very spacious. The bed are firm. Maybe it's just the time of year that leaves less to enjoy.
Wonderful escape! A hidden gem and if you get a casita light a fire and have a romantic evening.
Great hotel to stay at. Nixon and Reagan stayed here! Vey nice hotel.
Was a lovely establishment out in a very secluded area. The room was impeccable! Would highly recommend to any couple trying to get some alone time!
Beautiful grounds, comfortable beds, fireplace in room, and love the 24hr pools...
The resort is a such a nice hidden gem in the desert. The people that work there are very friendly and helpful. The spa is awesome. It's a very quiet place with a little fun night life in the bar. Don't expect a crazy party. It's a great romantic getaway for a night or two. Casitas need a bit of updating, but all around great.
We only stayed for lunch but were enchanted by the service! Our fresh salmon was cooked to perfection!
If you come you'll be so happy you might not leave. That's what happened to me.
Great resort. Very good restaurant, great bar and great rooms. Rates during the summer are very reasonable. During the evening, the property is done up with multicolored lights. Recommend this resort if in the area
They have it all here. The desert is a magical place at any time of year. This is my favorite place to stay in Borrego Springs.
Plenty to do - nice big, inviting swimming pool. Good eats and cool bar. Loaded gym. tennis courts, ping pong, super-large stand-up chess set.. Even a courtyard set aside from light pollution for stargazers.
Will return regularly. You might too.
It's worth the drive.
Great friendly service. The rooms are great, spotless, and I could easily stay a week there. The atmosphere is great and the asetic fits the location, it feels cozy and with a 24 hour pool what more could you ask for. The only problem with I can think of is location. San Diego is about 2 hours and L.A. is about an hour and a half and the drive is far into the boonies, however the long drive is far worth it for this gem in the middle of nowhere Super cheap for what you get.
Side note: The AC at certain temparures will turn on and off and could be problematic for light sleepers.
Unbelievable place to stay! We are coming back soon.
Top notch accommodations, service and atmosphere. Great place to get away and enjoy some R&R.
The front desk clerk, AURORA, was amazing! The resort was amazingly beautiful, stunning even. My only concern was that I wish they had been a bit more extravagant in their bed/mattress choice. Any
amazing night of sleep would have been an absolute topper to our trip.
Heaters in the room never got warm and the roof leaked all over the bed.
Absolutely amazing. They worked with us when we had a scheduling issue (on our part) and they even upgraded our room, free of charge. The room was beautiful and welcoming, I was so sad we had to leave. The pool was incredible, and the activities kept us busy for sure. The staff were INCREDIBLE, and were nothing but kind and sociable. If we're ever in the area again, you better believe we'll stay here. 10/10!
Very good place to go with your partner or relax good service
Somewhat dated but still very pleasant, natural, desert resort. Nearly all rooms face a small common pool & jacuzzi & have a balcony or patio. Refrig, coffee (terrible!) Flat screen w expanded cable Nice beds .Large grounds for walking, court sports. Resto w decent food. A few miles from town for other options. A nice getaway spot.
I a had summer vacation in this resort. Good location with enjoy desert night. Clean room. Large bathroom. Friendly staff. I want to stay again :)
Beautiful complex. The restaurant has an amazing menu. We chose the Asian chicken salad and the Cobb for lunch. Both were fabulous! Service excellent. I recommend this hotel/restaurant highly!
Dined at the restaurant. Well appointed, elegant and sprawling. Best service in Borrego Springs. BS has notoriously bad table service in general. The food was somewhat of a disappointment.
Stayed here for essentially one night, we we checked in very late the first night. It really is in the middle of nowhere, but we really loved the property, stayed in a room and not a Casita, but we were comfortable. Vaulted ceilings where great, the bathtub was great, and all the rooms have a pool and jacuzzi nearby. Didn't take advantage of too many amenities, but the Fox Den restaurant is decent enough, slightly elevated prices because again, middle of nowhere. Massages are also great, but pricey. Best thing we did was stargaze; our receptionist told us exactly where to go, and we drove out with snacks and turned off all the car lights. Perfection. Will come back sometime in the future.
I've lived in San Diego's east county all my life and I've been to Borrego Springs hundreds of times for work and play. And La Casa de Zorro blows me away. Not at all what you expect from a small desert community. The rooms are very large and very nice. Ours was a double queen in the Primrose building first floor. Fireplace (wood burning), larger shower separate tub and a patio leading to the pool and Jacuzzi. We're here in January so temps are 70's Joe a high and 40's at night. Beautiful for walking the immaculately landscaped grounds on this 42 acres. 26 pools, most heated, three dining venues including a rose garden terrace that's very romantic. Excellent bar and a very friendly bartender, Joaney.
In town there are now upscale eateries like Red Ocotillo and Keslings Kitchen as well as the old stand by bars and grilles of the biker days. And Chef Jeremy from Jeremy's On The Hill in Wynola has taken over the kitchen at the Rams Hill Golf Club.
It's not the old Borrego and it deserves another look from everyone.
DON'T PRE PAY. Refused to clean the room, Refused our request to leave. Refused to move us. Refused a refund. Terrible Guest Service's. Yes they charged us for NOT STAYING. We had an awful experience. The Super Smokey, Dirty Casita was unusable. The pool was filthy. I asked for the room to be cleaned and a pole skimmer so I could clean the pool. A service guy came by and turned on the filter sucking up the 50 to 75 large caterpillars. Room didn't get cleaned and we didn't get a skimmer. The Casita was so smokey from the fireplace that we couldn't stay. It made your eyes burn. The flue needs cleaning. You could smell the fireplace from outside. Room had food on the floor, beer tops, peeling wall paper, old carpet and screens that didn't fit. We had stayed there since Dory Halladay remodeled the property in the 1990's bringing Jazz music to the desert. This Casita was terrible. We recommend you check your room before you pay. Their No Refund Policy is a tricky one. It's sad, they've Gone Downhill. Curley, (The Manager) reply was "it's not that bad". "No other rooms are available" and "You must stay". We could not stay. We left. $648 for one night we didn't use the room. Curley It was BAD, REALLY BAD.
Lovely place for a few drinks by the pool. Made a hot day pass easily. Nice and quiet.
Fabulous casitas with fireplaces and jacuzzis or private pools. Many lovely public pools with cabanas. Huge fire pit, horseshoe pits, ping pong, shuffleboard, koi ponds, labrynith, all scattered throughout the spacious property. The restaurant is really good and the historic bar with the fox mural is worth a trip itself. Friendly staff. Great area to visit. But this resort is a destination itself.
Probably the nicest hotel in borrego at the moment. Very enjoyable. Nice, clean rooms and comfy beds. Will return.
So I was in Borrego on one of the hottest days of the year and it was fantastic. The temperature was 113, but it was a dry heat. The best way to describe it was a free outdoor sauna. That was really great for my tired aching muscles. The property is quite beautiful and I love the light decorations on the trees at night. This wasn't my first visit, but I'm so glad that city sewer smell is gone. It really was distracting from the beauty all around. The staff was extra kind. The room was spacious and had everything I needed. I made good use of the little drink cooler in my deluxe room. The bed was fantastic. I want to buy a new bed now. The TV was large and I was able to connect my iPad with an accessory I brought. The room was quiet and the grounds were too. I really think people are afraid of the heat, but they shouldn't be. Oh, I loved my meal at the cantina. Great job.
Been visiting here since I was a little kid in the mid 1970s. There is a certain magic about this hotel and the area, always worth the drive time.
Nothing like having your own casita and personal swimming pool! Nice, peaceful, quiet place for a quick get away.
The staff greeted me promptly when I arrived and were all incredibly helpful during my stay. Everywhere you look is a scenic view of the surrounding mountains.
Pretty good. We stayed in a Casita and it was pretty good.
Very nice. Will be back, however we hope they improve a few things. The signage on the property was poor and it was difficult to find our way around the property. Also, the roads on the property were difficult to navigate. We had to use public streets to get from the bar to our room.
The room itself was wonderful! Bedding was luxurious and we could have not asked for better.
As part of group bike ride, treated well, wonderful property
Perfect place to enjoy the desert !!! Just do it!!!
Luxurious accomodations just far enough outside of Borrego Springs to feel like you're in the middle of nowhere when you're not. The solar heated pools and jacuzzis are the perfect place to sit or float and watch the true dark sky. Rooms are well appointed, and the king size bed & fireplace combo make for a cozy, romantic getaway. Sighted this weekend: a shooting star after the gorgeous desert sunset colors then multiple coyotes on our sunrise walk. Enchanting spot all around.
The room was very comfortable and clean. We enjoyed being close to the main building for a short walk to the restaurants. The food service was very slow in the morning as there was only one server for the entire room of guests. Management should definitely hire more staff during the peak season when there are many guests in town to enjoy the area attractions. We felt sorry for the server as several guests were trying to get on their way and were rude to the server for the slow service.
Nice and cozy hotel. However there were cockroaches in our rooms.
A hidden gem in the desert. We had a one bedroom Casitas with its own private Jacuzzi -- very nice on the cool mornings. We were there in mid-fall, had a great rate. Enjoyed the onsite restaurant for breakfast and lunch, the pool and the walking track. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Can't wait to go back.
Our 4 bedroom suite was absolutely gorgeous and the staff was top notch. But the extreme heat (>104 degreees at 11 PM) and the small flies made our stay unbearable. It was too hot to play tennis or go into the pool. The small flies were everywhere even flying around you when you got into the pool. Also there was also nothing to do in town. On our way to San Diego, we found a nice little town named Julian that was a fun spot to travel shop and eat. My son and I would love to give the resort a second chance but I don't think that we could convince my wife or daughters to go for it.
