Nice casita and pool. A LOT of flies in the room....
Nice casita and pool. A LOT of flies in the room. When complained to the front desk, we were offered a fly sweater.

Stayed one night after day tripping to Julian with my husband and toddler. The grounds are beautiful and room is very clean. If we had booked further in advance I would have opted to stay on the bottom floor so it's easier with a toddler and having direct pool access but even at the 2nd floor, it was awesome. They have some cool Casitas with private pools and spas but even staying in a deluxe room you have a semi private pool between you and the rooms that surround it. With all the outdoor activities we will be back.
They have a lap pool, mile jogging trail and tennis courts for those who like to be active. Also outdoor chess and croquet. This would be an awesome spot for a large family gathering.
Restaurant - MUST HAVE reservations during COVID and they fill up FAST. Very distanced and beautiful eating area. Food was much better than what i was imagining. The free breakfast left a lot to be desired, especially if you have allergies or dietary needs ( yogurt, Danish, apple and juice). Next time will just have coffee in the room (great selection).
Staff is delightful! So friendly and accommodating.
$1600 for 3 nights in a 2 bedroom 2 bath "Casita" March 2019. The Casita [#71] positives included being a separate space with a small wading pool. The Casita as well is retro-fitted with heat and air which is appropriate. The space is comfortable and adequately furnished with couches, kitchen table, desk, beds, TV's and the standard towels, iron, clock, and some decorations (accoutrements.) There is also a small kitchen sink, coffee maker, some cups, however, no dishes... Additionally, there is a fireplace, and the Casita does have a odor of campfire as the fireplace does allow smoke overflow as we witnessed. The bathrooms are basic, step-in tub/shower. The hot water was not adequate the first night but good the following two nights, so not sure exactly what the issue was? (3) guests and I took the first shower. Daily "maid" service was available if desired. The staff for the most part were all pleasant and attentive. The breakfast buffet is $25 a head. The food quality and quantity was just good, not great, and on the bland side. Presentations are good but again without as much "character" tastes as I like and expect. The weekend entertainment (music) was very good emanating from the bar. The grounds are very well maintained but it appears with the growing/immenent water issues looming for Borrego Springs it will cause this property real and growing water use issues into the future. Casa Del Zorro offers some good choices for activities: tennis, pickle ball, croquet, horse shoes, ping-pong...Overall, the property does try to provide value for the price. It is a historic property and is located well in that it is closer to Julian and close enough to the "downtown.". Pictures have been provided (10). Overall this property rates between 4.0-4.2 stars. A good choice for some, not so for others. Enjoy!
Returning to Casa Del Zorro after 20 years, the property has held to the test of time. The xeriscape gardens & grounds are well kept, the room was clean & inviting, the staff was polite & friendly & the breakfasts offered were well prepared. We were very happy to witness that the overall quality of our stay was as we remembered*.
However- our complaint was the "evening poolside singing act" that carried on for over 2 hours, projected at a hideously high noise level. The sound reverberated over the entire resort complex! We voiced our extreme dissatisfaction as it was occurring, but NOTHING was done to tone down the volume. Therefore the highly valued & desired "Tranquility Factor" was stolen from us- particularly on our room balcony, let alone the inability to enjoy the use of the garden gazebos.
A sorry & disturbing loss of "Zen" in beautiful Anza Borrego.
Nice and friendly staff, nice place to stay if you want to get away from the city.
lovely atmosphere.
delicious juevos rancheros plate.
Nice place, great views, friendly staff and emaculatly maintained pools.
Stayed here for about two weeks. For a full week we called and asked them to fix the house wifi at least 12 times. They sent people over but never fixed it and keep making excuses why it didn't work and at one point told us to just reset it which obviously wasn't working. The Casita also smelled like cigarettes. Really poor customer service.
Had lunch with friends. The restaurant was extremely busy due to the spring wildflower bloom in Borrego so we waited for a table. The hostess was pleasant and once we were seated the service was great and the food was excellent!
Such a wonderful place. Our friends at Merchants Metals in Southern CA treated us here as we are going through a rough period for medical issues. The place is a beautifully landscaped desert Oasis. Great food and private rooms with hot tubs. I could not recommend it more.
Very nice, elegant, excellent food and customer service!
We stayed three nights to explore Anza Borego. The Resort offered more amenities than we had time to use. The rooms and facilities were clean and well maintained. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Even our dogs were welcomed.
this quaint and groomed grounds give the place a little magic... it's very secluded and make sure you get a place with your own pool... good food.. full service.. the 2 a/c units were fabulous... please take secluded literally.. this is a get away... no shopping.. there are a few local restaurants..
Always a great time. Pool and Pina coladas we're delicious. Very relaxing!
Dinner at La Casas Del Zorro was wonderful. The food was excellent and well presented. However we had to use our cell phone flashlights to see the menu and even though we were the only patrons in our area I felt it took too long to get our food.
Great resort - but it is a real desert out here. Middle of October and it is 105 degrees WOW.
Beautiful property with very nice rooms. Multiple pools and lots of games to keep kids occupied. Restaurant was decent, but not great.
Beautiful grounds. Gorgeous facility! Delicious menu. Poolside has cabanas, lounge chairs and well kept. Live music was excellent ;-) It gets hot out there so dress accordingly....It also can get cold at night especially in the winter months!
WARNING: Borrego is a sleepy town with zero night life except for the resort hotels and camping. Midnight in Borrego is at 9pm!! Lol
Things to do in Borrego: Hike. Dine. Sleep. Go to spa resorts. Hike. Look at the evening stars. Hike. Complain about how hot it is.
At night you can see the stars! La Casa Del Zorro Resort has little green micro lights in the trees that twinkle in the soft gentle evening breeze! It s really awesome!!
One weekend my husband and I went to Borrego Springs to see the dessert flowers during the spring superbloom. We were not disappointed!
Great couples getaway OR a girls night with your friends for spa, dinner, music and pampering!
My friend Shaaron & I used to play music in a band in Borrego. Really nice people
Live in Borrego!
Clean, heart drinks, beautiful grounds...a must see
Terrible service -- beware of overbooking. I arrived with my family at La Casa del Zorro on Memorial Day weekend, after flying to San Diego and driving 2 hours through the night, only to find out that my confirmation number was worthless. I had even received a "We are looking forward to your visit tomorrow" email. After a half-hearted attempt to find us a room at another hotel, the staff gave us a "sorry" and shrug of the shoulders, and left us to sit alone in the lobby with the 6 year old and 8 year asleep on the couches. We sat there for an hour, without any attention from the staff, until we finally decided we had no choice but to drive another 2 hours back to San Diego before dawn. As my wife and I carried the children out the door, the hotel staff couldn't even be bothered to speak to us or hold the door open. Totally outrageous. Nor was there any follow up after we left. I don't usually bother with reviews, but this was the worst hotel experience of my life.
One of the best experience ever! We had our own private pool. Casita was very clean with 2 bedrooms and two baths. We were staying out in the desert with not a soul in our view. Very secluded if that is what you want.
I surprised my wife as an early birthday gift... and she absolutely loved the room at La Casa del Zorro. The city of Borrego Springs really is a nice city within San Diego. The room was exactly how it was pictured on the website. Nice fireplace which couldn't be lit until later on during the season which was a sad moment. Nevertheless, the scenery and everything surrounded with the hotel was nothing less than excellent.
Food was fine. Room was of taste being dog friendly too! Activities of many. Landscaping is beautiful!
Can't say anything negative except the high prices. But that keeps it valuable.
Very nice place with lots of beautiful open space, friendly staff, and very nice accomodations. Would absolutely come back.
I thought the casita was ok....furniture seemed dated but I would say it was ok. The rooms were clean and everything was in order. We LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the pool. We did have a plumbing problem and a tv reception issue in the King More
We could only stay one night out of a 3-night trip at the Locust Casita and could not sleep at all that night due to constant stream of bugs (roaches mostly) wandering around the room all night long. We called the front desk 3 times, they were polite and Maintenance brought us bug spray each time but it was, unfortunately, not a permanent solution. We checked out the next day since we did not want to spend another sleepless night. I wonder if all the casitas have this problem or it was just ours. Desert wildlife is wonderful but I prefer them to stay outside of my room.
Outstanding! Everything is perfect! The staff is wonderful, as are the meals and all the surroundings! A super place to visit, relax, be pampered in the spa, be active or have a conference.
My brother was visiting and wanted to go to Wednesday Night Rib Night. He and my wife thoroughly enjoyed their ribs. I had steak which OK. Not great. The room was lovely and the service was outstanding. Not many there. Not sure how they manage to keep it open.
Food was excellent, but expensive. And the service was slowest I've had anywhere in a long long time. ( and they weren't that busy ). Had a great band playing out by the pool!
It was so hot but the resort was very accommodating. They left bottled waters in the fridge and a cooler of ice in our room. The pool bar or room was open 24/7 quick was a blessing and the restaurant delivered to the pool. We can't wait to go again.
My favorite summer relaxing spot. Whether an adult trip or family trip we love hanging by the pools.
My friend and I went to celebrate her 50th birthday. The Spa treatments were great. We had a great lunch and an even better dinner. We can't wait to go back.
La Casa del Zorro is a well-run, service-focused, stunningly beautiful property. We could not have hoped for more. The indigo mountains are an incredibly picturesque backdrop to the resort. The grounds are gorgeous. There are pools and spas everywhere. We played bocci ball, croquet and pickle ball, laughing ourselves silly this afternoon. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. There was live music tonight. What a perfect place to warm in the sun, treat ourselves at the spa and relax into a little vaca. The stars are visible like I ve never seen before . I can t wait to book a return visit before we even check-out. We spoiled ourselves and stayed in a casita with it s own private heated pool and patio.
Beautiful resort, great food, and snack in the middle of Anza Borrego State Park.
Quiet, relaxing facilities! Loved, loved, loved having our own private pool with the Casitas. Thank you for having us!
Bad, overpriced food in both the casual and upscale restaurants (breakfast and desserts were notable exceptions; both were very good). No real alternative food options nearby. Biting flies kept us from fully enjoying the poolside during the day and bon fire at night. Pool is chlorinated but at these prices should be salt water. The room was very nicely appointed with very strong WiFi performance but smelled strongly of fire wood most likely due to bad ventilation.
Best getaway in Anza-Borrego. Quiet, cozy, handsomely decorated. Will return again and again.
The bar scene was excellent. We enjoyed the food and drinks at the bar. We loved our bartender, Joanie, she was fun, personable, and attentive. We ordered off the main menu and the food was excellent, especially the mushroom wellington. We will go there again on this trip.
Most wonderful dinning experience by the pool with live music
We love this place so much we go almost once a month!!
The music, atmosphere, rooms and hostess and bartenders are just GEMS!!!!
We love visiting Borrego Springs and staying at La Casa del Zorro. It's so refreshing and peaceful and feels so private. Because we were there in the heat of the summer this year, we had all the pools all to ourselves! The fitness room contains everything you need to get your workout in. The staff are among the friendliest and most helpful we've ever encountered!
3 areas that need work: please provide a few essentials in the kitchen: utensils, plates, dish towels and detergent; please provide a more effective fly-killing tool than a fly swatter; and finally, please use a very keen eye outside as well when cleaning units between visitors---we were disturbed to find a used condom in the rocks beside our spa.
Casa del Zorro is a great resort with amazing customer service. All amenities were great with very good ease of access.
Overall a nice place with lush landscaping, extensive water features and pools, including many medium sized pools adjacent to blocks of about 16 rooms, as well as private pools that are rented along with casitas. Great live music in the restaraunt, really talented performers on both of my prior visits. Ownership has changed twice in the last decade.
I don t think I ll come back until the new owners make a more serious commitment to sustainability. The lights in our room were all the old fashioned incandescent type, I saw a few LEDs in the restaraunt, but overall it felt like this place is going out of its way to waste electricity. I doubt it even makes good business sense to use those lights, it feels like someone is trying to make a statement. There was no evidence of solar electricity being generated, despite extensive undeveloped land owned by the hotel. Finally, none of the heated pools use solar heating, all gas heat. No recycle cans in the rooms. The use of water also seemed gratiuitois, lots of leaking irrigation, with water running down the street. The place used to be owned by a famous conservative newspaper publisher, but that was 10 years ago. The parking lot had a bunch of Priuses and electric cars (no charges for the later that I saw), I think they are out of touch with what many of their guests are looking for. The only commitment the environment I saw was the standard we will only wash your towels if you limit on the floor note . I don t want to reward a place like this with my business.
There we also other small frustration. We also found the service in the restaraunt unusually slow (30 min from ordering to getting our food). I called for room service, had trouble getting through, then was told someone would be over shortly, but it took 5 hours, and when they came they clearly wanted me to say they could leave without cleaning the room. Final gripe: the in-room coffee is very low quality, powdered creamer, etc. for $500 a night I think they could splurge on the coffee, right?
Fantastic accommodations. Almost everything was great, only negative was there wasn't enough parking, I had to park a considerable ways away from my room. Other than that, excellent.
Picturesque location, friendly staff, and great amenities. Attended a business lunch and ate in the patio. The chips are addicting!
The place is undoubtedly beautiful, the rooms spacious ... But the staff are not always friendly.
IN summer the swimming pools are hot
Great get away lots of space and private at the casita.
We love this place. Always relaxing. Great food, great pools and casitas.
Delightful all round. Clean, well appointed rooms. Great facilities - pools, yoga, etc. Staff could not be more helpful. Love this place.
Nice place, clean, although the private hot tub was closed do to covid. They have three large swimming that were open. They served bagged breakfast, and coffee to bring back to your casa, the restaurant for dinner was very good you can eat inside or out staff was very friendly and helpful. The metal sculptures in the desert around the resort are a lot of fun, you can drive right up to them on the dirt paths. You don't need a off road vehicle. Had a very restful time there.
An Exceptional Property and Experience
The grounds were lovely and captured the desert feel, yet there is a lovely bunch of pools and streams running through, complete with foot bridges, Koi fish and gazebo etc. A Star Gazing "theatre" which was perhaps once a stables? Not sure but we come to the desert for the quiet, the STARS...Owls calling back and forth. Incredible. Really nice, peaceful and lovely. The swimming pools: Perfect. The Food, Service and Atmosphere of the resort: Perfect. I am a fairly picky person. I don't usually sleep well at hotels. The BEDS: Exquisite. This was a perfect getaway where we were comfortable on all levels. We were both impressed by the level of dedication the staff showed us. They went beyond their call of duty to make us welcome and comfortable. We will most certainly return to this property, even in the heat of the summer, because it was such a relaxing place and the rooms and bathroom so well maintained. Thank you La Casa Del Zorro, we really needed this.
We went there to see the desert flowers. It was pretty awesome. Service at this resort was pretty slow. Lunch took nearly 2 hours to order drinks and food. It wasn't too much of a big deal since we were there to relax. I would be really annoyed if I was in a rush though.
Amazing place. Way out in the boonies! Nice clean rooms.
The rooms were huge and the beds cozy. The life sized chess was fun to play and the surrounding desert life was amazing
Great experience. Amazing views. Restaurant was good.
Amazing resort! Close to everything including the national park and the Salton Sea. Really top notch place! the casitas are very cool and very clean and the staff is supper friendly! Love it every time we go! (we've tried both La Casa and Borrego Springs Resort on and off and I have to say La Casa beats it every time...) ;)
Beautiful setting from the lovely pools and desert gardens to the star viewing and firepits at night. Good food, live music on the weekend
Amazing resort, has so many nice swimming pools, very good service, very nice room. Me and my family had so great time there, I was extremely happy and all was in available price. The view around resort are amazing, took many great pictures. Wish coming there again, I did a wonderful memories there.
Stayed in casitas not hotel, roomy, clean, great service, good but small restaurant, lots of activities ( tennis, shuffleboard, ping pong, horse shoes, bocce ball) and gear provided, good gym, many pools to choose from.
Wow where to start. The staff is amazing, friendly and it seems they genuinely want you to have the best time ever and we certainly did. The food was absolutely wonderful not a bad breakfast, lunch or dinner. Love the spa way to go Debbie! Love the resort grounds. Love the music and karaoke at the pool. It was our first time there but definitely not our last. Thank you team La Casa Del Zorro for making our one year wedding anniversary so memorable.
Casita was great, weather was great, Had a great time !
Beautiful hidden gem, magical and peaceful atmosphere, Amazing guest support from the front desk. If you need anything they dont have right on the premise the front desk will help you find a quick local alternative. I will absolutely be back!
So much to consider. Let me start with my likes: The evening walks at night, late October were enchanting with paths illuminated by little lights and green micro lights shining in the treetops... you could follow the gravel paths seemingly forever, as in the desert -- they keep the property so under-illuminated! They have a section for star viewing, set aside with a form of "fence blinders" to keep out property lights.
Why 4 stars? We saw the wood burning fire-place in the room pics, so we purchased wood to burn... Just the thought of champagne and sitting by the fire on a chilly late October night got us to get excited about this place. No where did it say on their webpage that the fireplace was not to be operated until... can't remember the date... a big disappointment.
Watch your cut-off time for "happy hour" drinks... they can double if you don't pay attention and miss the cut-off time for your second. You won't know until you get your tab.
Last, but not least, the hot pools. They may rely on solar, which I support, but hot pools are not enjoyable enough when not "hot".
One of my favorite places to stay. Great amenities and the desert has so much to offer.
My girlfriend and I will definitely comeback here! We both had a great time with what this resort has to offer. Great view, awesome atmosphere, friendly staff and best of all... relaxation at its finest! A great stress-reliever indeed. Oh yeah, gotta thanks for Patrick for showing me the place. He's a great guy.
A great spa for a few days in the desert. Excellent restaurants
This is a special place. Calm and serene, beautiful room and the fantastic desert.. Will be going back
The place was clean, the staff was incredibly charming. Such a beautiful location!
Best summer vacay! Hot, great pools, wonderful service
Beautiful environment. Excellent spa. Friendly staff. A real retreat!
Found a Groupon deal and decided to have a getaway weekend with the family. We stayed in a poolside 2 queen deluxe room. The room was spacious for our family of 4. The bathroom had both a gorgeous bathtub and shower. The resort was beautiful and well maintained with lots for the kids to do. Being able to walk out from our patio to the swimming pool was such a treat! The kids have a great time here and we plan on coming back. One thing was that wifi in our room was non-existent and we had to go out of our room to have signal. However, seeing that we were trying to unplug, that wasn't too devastating.
Rooms were very spacious and clean. The hotel is the nicest in the area and we were there to catch the milky way
Overall, a very surprising visit, to find a very good resort in that area. The rooms were spacious and very clean. Slightly dated decor, but the property was beautiful. Staff was friendly. Food and beverage services were fair.
This place had good food but Was way under staffed. Serving time was really long even when wating for the staff to return.
This little desert oasis is one that I don t tell many people about because I love how quiet it is there. A friend of mine and I stumbled upon it one night while we were trying to camp in Joshua Tree and all the campsites were full. We have since been back several times and each time fall more and more in love with the grounds.
Rooms are very nice and the property is very large.
