BEWARE!!! When we checked into our room, we noticed that the carpet was not only threadbare, but horribly stained. Since they allow pets, we were particularly concerned. Asked to be moved to any other room, but were told they were full. Strange, because there were very few people about. Also, pool was full of bugs. Ended up leaving and going back home. Have never had to do that before, in nearly 50 years of active travel. This is one place you do NOT want to stay.

I stayed with friends and their mother-in-law so at this resort for three nights in a private Casa. The accommodations were Spiderman, the pool was perfect and the restaurant and bar provided excellent service and food. Such a beautiful oasis in the desert!

This place is awesome, it's in the middle of nowhere but it's awesome. The rooms are great, big beds, large spa like bathrooms, pools everywhere (20+), tennis courts, ping pong, life size chest, fitness room and on and on. Night life is not so great unless you want to go for a swim or do some star gazing, everything around town closes at 9 p.m., so make sure you swing by the convenience store to pick up some drinks and snacks.

If you need a place to relax and enjoy some privacy with your own pool you got to stay in one of the Casitas. This was our 2nd stay, even though it was private because we stood in a 4 bedroom Casita with family, kids and grandchildren, it was so much fun.

This is a beautiful resort hidden in Borrego. The grounds have many activities/services to house from and spacious rooms to retire in St night. Air conditioning blows cold as ice and looks like there is a fireplace for the colder winter nights.

the pluses: nice room, nice bathroom, pleasant staff, pretty setting in the desert, restaurant experience was good
the minuses: no wine glasses waiting for us in room,
the wood for the fireplace was green and smoked badly,
$25 for a second helping of fireplace wood? really? a big deal is made on the website of every casita having fireplaces, but i do not remember seeing the fee listed. I have two cords of dry wood sitting at home, i would have gladly brought my own supply and had a crackling fire instead of a smoldering one.
$30 for a corkage fee? that is an outrageous amount for the 10 secs it requires someone to pull out a cork.
$25 for a resort fee, and the only thing we tried to use was the wi-fi, which was worthless. It was so slow it could not stream my favorite radio station. I travel for work, i spend 200 days a year in hotels all over, and this one was not up to snuff. It certainly did not meet Resort Spa standards. It may be the best in Borrego Springs, but it is not the best i have been in, by a long shot.

La Casa de Zorro (The House of the Fox) is the most interesting yet charming place I've ever stayed. Situated in the middle of nowhere, La Casa somehow makes you feel as if you are somewhere else.

Got there at 11am Would not let us check in. Nothing else around. Sat and waited 3 hours. The rooms were ready, they just have a policy...we were told...well, your policy sucks. Then checking out, they charged us $35 for a stuffed doll FOX that we supposed to have taken. What?? Not only did I not take the Fox from our room, there wasn't one in our room. The place is beautiful but a RIPOFF. We will never ever go back. I'm telling people about it whenever I am asked. They will be bankrupt soon.

Aspects to this resort are 5 star - the games, the grounds, the casitases. However, the food is mediocre to poor and significantly over priced (avoid the "bar" restaurant.) You are better served bringing your own breakfast and go elsewhere for dinner. But stick around at night for shuffle board, enjoy the pools, etc.

Great getaway place, very nice and clean. Rooms are very nice and food is fantastic.
Resort staff made us feel like at home.
The only cons is the wifi and poor cell phone reception. They should build a wifi mesh around the resort.

We had a relaxing night at the beautiful La Casa del Zorro. The grounds are stunning and so is the surrounding scenery. There are also tons of activities; biking, yoga, games, tennis. etc. The room was perfect! Spacious and clean. My only complaints would be lack of veg options at the restaurant ( and in Borrego in general) and snail speed wifi. However, I would go back in a heartbeat!

My husband and I recently stayed at this wonderful property. We needed a get away for a few days for peace and quiet. We found this and more. From making the reservations to check out we were very pleased. Everyone made sure we were taken care of. The grounds are so fun. Being there at night was enchanting. Fountains, frogs croaking, green twinkling lights in the trees, paths to wonder and star gazing. There is even a star gazing theater. The pools and spas were clean and heated just right. We had a ground floor room with a patio that lead right to our pool. The room was large and the bed was very comfortable. The fireplace was a great treat. There are many more amenities. We arrived early and there was a wait for our room. No problem. We got a guided tour of the property. Curly, the manager, is right there to help with any questions or to make sure you are taken care of. Thanks, Curly.

What a shame how far this place has fallen, both in terms of service and in quality. The rooms are extremely outdated and smell of mildew. There are giant black beetles inside EVERYWHERE. The food is mediocre at best and the service to get absolutely anything is atrocious. If you're coming from San Diego, go the extra 15 mins and reroute to Palm Springs. This is the "nicest resort in Borrego" and it's a dump now.

La Casa del Zorro is a classic old desert resort/inn. With lovely grounds and casitas with jacuzzis and pools. To a variety of nice rooms. The restaurants are excellent for all meals. We didn't avail ourselves of many of the relaxing areas to just hang out and read or to play ping pong or shuffleboard. They have tennis and pickle ball courts which looked nice.
But the best attribute of all was the attentiveness of their employees. Everyone went out of their way to see that our stay was first rate.
This trip was a guys golf trip and we took advantage of the "Stay and Play" specials.
Next trip is for the wildflower display in the desert which should really starting showing up in the next two to three weeks. Can't wait

Amazing place - we really enjoyed our first time at this resort and will definitely be coming back again soon. The grounds are so well kept, there were beautiful fragrant roses blooming, staff were all 100% (not fake, corporate, "nice customer service" but truly genuine and so helpful throughout our stay). We chose a casita and enjoyed the spacious privacy and even our own relaxing heated pool out back. Little things such as a huge cooler of ice awaiting us in the room without having to ask were so appreciated. Lastly, we ate both dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and had wonderful food and terrific service. Next time, I want to try out the spa and more of the amenities like ping pong, tennis and even the stargazer theater!

I believe this resort sits on 44 acres out in the dark community of Borrego Springs. It's an excellent place to do some stargazing And to just get away from it all. We had a two bedroom casita with her own pool. Can't wait to go back!

I love this place! We come to Borrego Springs for automotive testing a few weeks every year. It's perfect for either business or vacations in my opinion. The rooms, pool area's and grounds are beautiful. Depending on weather, the internet is hit and miss but is acceptable. La Case Del Zorro has very relaxing atmosphere to wind down from your busy day.

Best hotel in the area, stay here and be amazed. Best luxury in this area with all staff doing their best to make your experience enjoyable. A couple of insights:
There are bicycles available for rent for the day or hours (entire family) check in the lobby
There are many pools, let me explain, many of the casitas have their own pool and some even have their own spa as well, the private or luxury rooms have shared pools (limited to the rooms around them this was so nice), there is one main pool by the front office that others can use.
Private or luxury rooms are nicely appointed, we arrived on a super windy day, our room was very well insulated which helped cut down on the wind noise.
This is a big property (42 acres) that re-opened in 2013, it is quite different than normal hotel type properties in that there are many homes onsite and apartment style buildings. It is quite novel to walk around and see the other homes available all the way up to a 4 bdrm. So if you have family you can accomodate them in one spot instead of multiple rooms.
This is a Dark Sky community a little ways out of town the night sky is fantastic with tours for this activity available check the lobby.
You will find your own places to eat & entertain here, for eats you can try Red Octillo or Kendalls off Christmas Circle, or eat at the excellent options onsite. For us the Fox Bar onsite was our choice each evening as we could stay casual instead of playing dress up. Menus for both are available there. Try the Fox Chips for an appetizer. All staff were excellent and friendly please return the favor. Like most dining they have live bands on Fri~Sun.
This is a beautiful property a true oasis in a very tough & fragile climate, be kind to all when you visit, throw trash where it belongs, sit around the community fire pit and swap stories and learn about your fellow travelers under a starry sky.

Best place to go in Borrego. Mostly because it's the only place to go in Borrego. It was not bad--definitely enjoyable, but not the same amazing experience as it was under the original owners. A shuttle will pick you up at the airport, and our driver was kind enough to take us to see some blooming wildflowers before heading to the resort.

I started coming here when a golf tournament I attended was moved out to Borrego Springs. I stayed here by accident because there was no other place to stay and I fell in love with it. Our first visit, the resort brought over a group from Jamaica as guest helpers. They were awesome. Then a couple years later, the resort was closed. Then it was sold and the new owners did a makeover and reopened in 2008. It was still nice but somehow lost some appeal. The upscale restaurant is nice. I like the fact they have a dress code because so much attitude in California is come as you are. Shorts and flip flops are not always welcome. The problem in Borrego Springs is that they don't have much else places to eat. So you are kind of stuck. The resort is really not that kid friendly. I would not have brought my kids there but you can. Not much to do other than swim and relax. They would have a fire going in the fireplace after our dinner. It was great. I don't think they do that anymore as that was the previous owners. I plan on coming back in a few months.

Came here with my kids for 2 nights and it was great! All pools (5 of them!) Are very well maintained and clean, all pools had private cabanas, and one of the pools was a super clean lap pool. The fitness center had everything and if you're into yoga there is a separate building for that. The restaurant on site has great service and the food was good. The room was one of the nicer rooms I've ever stayed in. Oh, kids also enjoyed shuffleboard, table tennis, and life-sized chess. We hope to come back again soon, hopefully in a private casita.

Best place in Borrego, tastefully brought back after a three year closure. Grounds and rooms are beautiful. Helpful staff, although they failed to provide me keys to both of the rooms I rented, and they didn't work when provided. No big deal, but I killed roaches in the room on two occasions. (No sense asking for another room, as they were sold out.) Dining room provided good food and wine list, while not being pretentious. They are the best place in Borrego by far, and priced accordingly.

It's a little divey but exactly what I was looking for. The new Covid rules kills the atmosphere inside but the service is friendly and on point. The BBQ burger with grilled onions was the best I've had in a long time.

Really nice hotel. Awesome staff. We had a 2 bedroom Casita that let us have our own pool, which was absolutely worth it, especially in the heat. The only complaint is that the restaurant is a little slow with getting you your food. We ordered breakfast to our room, and were told it would be 15 minutes, but took almost 40. But the hotel staff are really accommodating and helpful, and the rooms are really nice.

Great look, feel and service. I'd give it a five except by our cassita 63 and some others, it smelled of sewage. The claimed that there is an ongoing dispute with the county over pipes underground. They better get it fixed before I'd stay in any rooms in that part of the resort again.
