Restaurant by day, party bar by night. Food is good, Thursday half price nachos is always a fun time.
Pretty mediocre. My burger was way overcooked and the fires were bland and didn't have much taste to it, but in return, the appetizers were great and the staff and environment were nice too. If you plan on getting a burger, I don't recommend coming here.
Great atmosphere, delicious food, and wonderful service! Would definitely return!
Just went with friends for half peice wings on Thursday... Had nick as a server... Service was excellent.... Food was great and the tower of beer hit the spot... Always a good call with kates... Ask for nick... N tip well... We did
Had a great day.alexa our bartender worked her butt off
Food is really great and has a fun atmosphere. It s really good to come when they have live music playing.
Great spot for brunch in one of the best college towns
Take advantage of the half-price deals during the week and you'll have no complaint.
Omg the nachos!!!!! So good and huge. You can go on half price night and get them for cheap. They are do delish. Sandwhichs and wings are great too
Very much the college party bar. Meals are decent during the day and for a dinner date on a weekday
If Gordon Ramsey saw this place he would scream SHUT IT DOWN!! This restaurant is great for college students looking for a cheap microwaved meal. If you are looking to have a quick meal with your family this is not the place. Service was not the issue it was 100% the food. My mother got a turkey burger that was frozen, tossed on the grill and then put on an old hard bun. My wife got the French onion soup that honestly looked like sewer water and tasted like what you would find in your clogged pipes. The best thing there was the beer, but how can you mess that up? If you are going to charge 15 dollars for burgers, and 8 for soup it should be homemade not from the frozen food section at Costco.
Kates is a fun place... Always packed with townies and college kids. The menu is good and the staff is nice.
Always a good time. The French Dip is divine! Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is fun.
Great little local place to eat. Skip the chains and hit up the local places. Had a great lunch with our 2 girls
It is a good place for burgers and wings. Also has half price on some days of the week. They changed the menu a few months back, I liked their old burgers better than the new ones. One of the drawback is it takes too long to get food. You have to wait quite a while.
Though many go here for the bar and dancefloor upstairs. This place has good for food too.
Music varies depending on the night but mostly pop, hip-hop, and house vibes.
The server was very friendly, and the kitchen went out of their way to make crab pretzels for us even though they weren't on the menu anymore.
Great place! Staff was good. Margaritas were on point!
I simply was not impressed. It was a tight space and the food was just okay. I do not have to go back.
This place is awesome especially if you pay attention to their food deals. Newark regulation says that their alcohol sales can't exceed 50% of their total sales, it's a college town... do the math and you end up with high quality low budget food.
On Monday night's a local group hosts a "Salsa Night" and it's one of the most fun events in town, $5 cover gets you a lesson and all night dancing. (Plus! Half priced burgers and two dollar rail drinks!)
Hidden Sunday brunch gem. Really good mimosa and bloody bar. If you can get past the annoying DU students, you'll be in for a treat. Highly recommend.
Sat at a table for 10 minutes and never had any one from the wait staff approach us, so we left.
Great menu choices with lots of "stick to your ribs" options. First time visitor and would gladly return when in Newark again.
Have been getting the Crab pretzels all summer and have really enjoyed them. Went this past Sunday and was really disappointed as there was barely any crab meat in the pretzels. I didn't say anything at the time, but when I got my check I found that they had raised the price from $9.50 to $12.00. Their menu on the internet site said it was $9.50 still. The waitress just said that they are slow updating the website. Very disappointed to bay that much more for a less that satisfying appetizer.
We came here for restaurant week and I as surprised! I've passed this restaurant a couple times but I will now definitely be back! The crab wontons were good, the salmon even better and the dessert was big enough for all of us to share one! I look forward to trying other menu items!
I have ate here a couple times, but wasn't very happy with the mac & cheese bbq pull pork with a side of fries. The mac & cheese noodles was hard, fries was way to crunchy and hard, the toasted bread as well. Just wasn't a good visit this time around.
Menu is great, variety of items and they are very good. table service can be hit or miss though.
Classic college bar, some of the best vibes in town
Great burgers and awesome service!! Lots of outdoor seating!
A Newark/UDel staple. Great place with a lot of history. Casual dining throughout the day, and pretty wild at night. If you're in Newark, DE, definitely worth the time to check out.
Excellent Food...Can not beat the Chicken Wings with House made sauce... Delicious..and Half Price Wings All Day Thursday's is a deal yo best...
Service was pretty decent, they weren't bad just took a lil bit but that's probably the kitchen then the server. The food though was SO GOOD. Totally worth it and we will be coming back again and again!
The waitress was wonderful and service was great, but the food was VERY underwhelming. None of us felt well for the rest of the day after lunch and we all got different meals. We wont be returning.
Wonderful service as always would reccomend this place to everyone, fantastic food and great drinks.
Wings and rest of food was great. Waiter Jack was perfect!
Recently started charging a cover charge after 10pm. The only thing this place did right was the nighlife. Guess i need to find another bar...
Awesome place, great vibe. Half priced nachos on Tuesdays! Get the Inner Harbor and thank me later.
Hotspot at University of Delaware often crowded especially on parents weekend lots of college kids fun place decent food a Main Street staple
Poor food quality...
Asparagus was burnt and half cooked..
Beef sandwich was 'things quickly put together in a rush' , salty, and cold..
I just ate half of the dish .. waiter did not care to ask how the food was... just took the half full plate away..
my first and last time here..
Had a fantastic time sitting upstairs people watching all of the kids who are enrolled at ud and can't afford to or didn't want to go home for winter break. Beers were cheap and laughs were plentiful. Highlights of the night include a chick arguing with her boyfriend because he cheated on her. Or seeing a 100lb girl fall over by the bathroom and I think puke in the stairwell. Luckily the bouncers were on it. But they didn't even care to help her. After she attempted to stand up she managed to take a digger right into a row of chairs. I watched this unfold and thought to myself now they can redeem themselves. Nope they didn't do anything luckily my friend was there to pick her up and escorts her outside. Seriously what are you paying a bouncer for if they aren't gonna help somebody who's obviously wasted. Also got hit on a girl at the bar but my girlfriend really put the hex on that one. Will be returning in a few months because drinking really isn't my thing.
nice place, good atmosphere and on top of everything, CHEAP DRINKS! anyone can go there and have a good time.
I wasn't very impressed with the staff or the food when I went here. The beer menu was OK, but the wait time for the food was bothersome, even in the late afternoon. The outside seating is very nice and provides a great view of main Street.
A great place with a fun atmosphere! Fantastic for younger or older crowds alike!
Food is pretty good, but the service is slower than frozen pond water.
Great food. Their Inner Harbor nachos are so delicious!
Brunch with Santa was fun. A little crowded trying to get in with Santa even after the line died down. But food was delicious & the service was great. It was a fun time for our friends & kids.
Great Breakfast with Santa, as always. Food served was best in the many years we have attended, they did a great job with the menu served.
How can a place be touristy be in Newark? This was a nice break on our college visit and the menu was unremarkable. The good must have been fine, but we made the person who picked the place pick up the tab.
My wife and i come here for brunch on Sundays on a fairly regular basis. They have a good variety of food to choose from and it tastes good. The brunch scene is mixed with college students to older couples to families, i recommend trying it.
Excellent American food at a fair price. Clean place. The building has a very warm and unique historic atmosphere. I've been here many times and never had a bad experience. Usually crowded with college students
Good night club, good college scene. Lots of thirsty dudes though trying to get laid.
There food was not good at all and service was extremely poor. They also jacked up the prices during Alumni weekend and was the only bar that charged a cover. When asked why they responded with "we are charging a cover for these two days (Alumni weekend) only". I think you would not try to bleed the UD alumni dry when they came back. This bar is not the same Kate's it was since it underwent new management. Highly disappointed! Will not be returning to Kate's.
Great food and excellent service. Room rentals for private events are great.
Service alittle slow and the food wasn't that great I don't know if they was having an off day so I will give them another chance and let you know

Friendly girl at podium but my to go order was diappointing. Incomplete order and already at work before we could see. Stale nachos and $8.00 for a tiny soup.
