Beautiful pub tucked away in Winchester - well worth seeking out.
Beautiful pub tucked away in Winchester - well worth seeking out.
Cracking find on the outskirts of Winchester..
With the rest of the group in town will look forward to my next night out
Friendly staff, lovely pub food, very welcoming. Dog friendly
Great lunchtime, lovely place to meet up with friends and family. Excellent food.
Nice place. Nice staff. Caesar Salad is... ambitious.
Awful.... electrics out downstairs, bar closed, breakfast cancelled. Still charged full rate, never again!
Such a unique setting. It is a place you must go in and see. The ambiance is wonderful. The food is excellent. The staff are friendly. If you wish to be a resident the rooms are beautifully decorated and cozy. Would hightly recommend this establishment.
Great vibe with nice staff, can be busy but most of the time you can get a seat, bit pricey but overall a good experience
The ""new" King Alfred is another hidden winchester delight. More of a restaurant than a pub now but you really should go vvisit.
Yet again great kitchen and bar staff let down by badly trained and inexperienced servers. You would have thought covid had given the establishment an opportunity to refine its service and to keep every customer close. Asking for cutlery twice.. unacceptable. Asking for sauces for the kids twice... unacceptbale.... asking for the bill three times... unacceptable. When I explained the kitchen had delivered really well but service was again poor I was met with "yeah you said that last time.... funny that". If that attitude is a great window into a business then what a big fail.
The most unfriendly pub in Winchester. Poured a glass of wine (obviously 'off, smelt and tasted dreadful), bar attendant said she would pour in back into the bottle. Lovely. Decided not to have a drink after all. Recycled wine is not my thing. Or anyone's.
Lovely comfy large friendly pub with good real ales and a choice of gardens with or without the kids, great thinking. Away from the hustle and bustle. Dont know about food.
Good lunch and nice bubbly atmosphere. Very tasty pale ale and friendly staff.
Just back from a 2 night stay at King Alfred. Everything perfect - the room, the food (the best poached eggs at breakfast this morning) and most of all the staff and the service. Hang on to those guys Jane they are good!! Thank you all.
Great traditional pub with traditional yet modern twist decor, friendly and welcoming staff and luxurious rooms set in a stunning quiet location within walking distance of the city centre.
Very nice pub with friendly staff and good clean rooms for the night
Friendly pub, made welcome from the start. Stayed over in one of the small but perfect rooms with great shower in modern bathroom. Nice surprise to find the continental breakfast in our room...which meant a fridge for fresh milk for drinks and a teapot. Didn't eat as we went out but came back for a drink in the very quirky pub. We'd love it as our local.
Fantastic food, and wonderful staff. Highly recommend.
Beautiful pub
Frequent visitor
Great outside seating area suitable for all the family
Excellent customer service! Well kept beers, great food and a cosy atmosphere.
A really really great local pub. Even though none of us are local - it is our local when we all gather in Winchester from across the country. So thank you for servering great food and stocking great wine. Always a friendly group of staff and warm environment. Thank you.
Food was great. 5 of us had roasts. Service was excellent and the range of beers was good.
Rooms were great and the pub is very classic British feel. Food was great and beer selection is good.
Warm and cosy place with nice atmosphere.
Food is also quite good!
Lovely quaint pub quietly tucked away, a great coffee
What a lovely, warm, welcoming pub! Wish it was my local!
Lovely staff and good food. Great cosy atmosphere, eclectic furnishing, just like the Corner House used to be. Very welcoming.
I have just been for a meal with three of my dear friends and my daughter , Well were do i begin !!!!!! The length of time we had to wait was one hour and twenty for our meal to arrive and when it did it was cold and the lasagne was a frozen ping meal which was cold ,the chips were like re-heats and the fish was all batter .The manager came to speak to us and his attitude was a disgrace ,So needles to say i for sure will not be back for a meal THE WORST MEAL I HAVE EVER HAD .
First time we have been. Lovely, cosy environment. Relaxed with polite courteous and professional service. Food was tasty and plentiful.
Nice friendly pub with rooms a real home from home great beer garden good food..a proper pub..
Lovely pub. The main attraction is definitely the large, sunny beer garden out the back. Reasonable food. Good service. Dog friendly. Very reasonably priced jug of pimms too!
Interesting pub with library feel interior and pleasant garden, located in quiet residential area of Winchester. Good beer. First time there but will be going back.
The best pub roast in Winchester by miles. Great for a drink too.
Great service, good food. Only downside was that the room for our large group was very "cosy".
Good beer, lovely garden, family friendly. Food rather pricey.
December 31 dinner in! average table outside the door in the passage. Decompte 31 at 22h for children. Funny. Very good atmosphere. Food ok.
Warm welcome for tired travellers. Great room, excellent service, fantastic staff. Thanks.
Good beer and food
Proper pub.
Great service, great food, great room. Stayed for two nights and was very impressed - will definitely come back! Can't recommend enough!
A great local pub with a food menu and some cocktails
Lovely place, the waiters was very nice and the food delicious
Food is fine, nothing special. Busy place & you have to order at the bar. Wonderful garden, though, with a playground for children.
Well this was to me one of the most lovely pubs in winchester food out of this world interior lovely
Lovely garden to sit down in, good food and the staff are always friendly.
Charming local pub, perfect for walkers and travellers. A broad selection of good hearty food and drink, all priced very reasonably. Dog friendly. Lovely cosy decor
Lovely atmosphere for Christmas drinks the weekend before christmasy- highly recommend!
Lovely atmosphere for a peaceful pint after a hard day.
Decent pub, reasonable beer. Not the greatest but fine for a quick pint
Over rated over priced no apple sauce crackling you can't eat knifes that don't cut wouldn't Rush back
Beautiful pub - but be warned foods on the expensive side for pub grub.
Stayed the night here on a vist to Winchester. Short walk into town really friendly staff, lovely atmosphere, great food and beer. Great room. Can't fault it. Fantastic.
Lovely place and lovely service! Would definitely recommend for a cosy night in Winchester! Thank you!!!
Great local pub with relaxed feel. Good outside play area for kids and lovely roast dinners.
The staff are pleasant and polite. I enjoyed playing Bar Billiards. The garden is pretty and child friendly.
Overpriced for the poor quality food. 'Styled' atmosphere doesn't work for the area.
Went there for a quiz. Great service from friendly staff and good, reasonably priced food. I highly recommend.
Excellent food and atmosphere. Really good portion sizes. Thoroughly recommended
Great place for drinks and good food. Portions are well sized and a reasonable choice of ales on tap. The atmosphere is relaxed and cosy and the staff welcoming, helpful and friendly. I would definitely go back.
Very nice pleasant family pub in a wonderful suburban setting and has no gastro pub feel to it. Great choice of ales that change regularly. Big tvs for sport too if you're into that kind of thing
Very good food, friendly atmosphere. Staff very polite.
Had my BNI networking group christmas meal here for 28 people! It was warm and vibrant and the service was friendly, quick and the food went down very well. Minimal waiting time between the first person receiving their food and the last. The chocolate brownie with ice cream, walnuts and a side garnish of berry puree was very good as was the brisket.
I'm very particular about my brownies so you can trust me that it was amazing! So moist!
My partner and I were very excited by the Red Leg rum they had which we/me indulged in copiously!
We had booked in advance to stay here too and it was very comfortable and modern considering the classic feel to the rest of the pub. My only criticism is that the standby light on the TV (room 2) was very bright during the night and kept me awake somewhat... however I did have a lot to drink (as it was also my Bday!) So that could have well been a factor!
Overall highly recommended on accounts of food, service, comfort, decor and rum!
=)
