King Alfred pub Review

May have a play area but not kid friendly. Becoming more a restaurant than a pub.

This is a lovely little pub with a true, 'village community' feel. Fantastic interior decor, full of quirky objects, books and pictures.

Very friendly and welcoming staff, free WiFi, decent drinks and meal menu. Plenty of seating, both inside and out, with a lovely, garden area for enjoying this amazing summer. 2 hour free parking in immediate vicinity, but spaces fill up quickly. I believe they have other parking available for their hotel guests?

Be prepared to share your space with lots of dogs...today I counted 11.

That said, I recommend this great little venue.

Very lovely ambience, great service and amazing food

Went in for food and drinks on a friend's recommendation. They have a good number of drinks on tap and the burger ordered was very tasty.

What a dreadful pub ! If you are going to die of thurst- it will be in this pub . Staff don't have a clue and really don't give a **** about the customers. The worst move made in this pub was getting rid of Ben, how very very short sighted! The pub has gone massively down hill since Ben was sacked . Shame on you all .

Good food, exceptionally friendly and efficient staff.

Food is still lovely, I had a quite fiery fish curry and an excellent pint of beer.

Always stay here when we visit Winchester. Great place. Accommodation, staff and food excellent. Walking distance to city.

Excellent find. Perfect room (2) with character, comfortable bed and great shower. Dinner was delicious and catered for our vegan life. Short walk to city centre so we could leave the car here (parking permit included) Attentive staff but not ott about it. Wish I d booked in longer. Hopefully I will return when this way. Thank you

Great pub and great garden, food was ok. In the summer it's a lovely place to visit even with the kids!

This used to be a family pub, but since it has been taken over by new management it is certainly not now. We booked for four adults and two 20 month olds (which we made clear when booking). It was obvious that the woman in charge was not happy with the toddlers running up and down. Now we were not letting them run a-mock we were watching and following, in all the years we have frequented this pub, this has never been a problem. However, the lady in charge came over to make it clear, via a passive aggressive exchange with the toddlers, that they were to be seen and not heard. We felt so uncomfortable afterwards that we left without pudding or after dinner drinks. The same lady also had a go at a member of staff in front of us and then later apologised to this member of staff, also in front of us. We eat out at least two times a week in Winchester and over the country and the world in fact and this is the most uncomfortable we have ever been made to feel with our child. It's not the pub it was in terms of being family friendly and I would not recommend for those with children under 6. If they don't want us there, they really should say! We will not return.

Great selection of beers. Interesting menu, great twist on their starter for two to be shared. Staff professional, attentive & display a care for the customer & delivery of good service Thiis pub has a definite ambience Would visit again .

Lovely cosy pub. Great place for a meal and drinks with family and/or friends.

Excellent service at short notice for a group of lunch guests. The food was good and excellent value.

Cozy, old inn. No food service Sunday evenings, but the chef warmed up lasagna for lunch and added salad. It was fine
