The Oval is built on part of the former Kennington Common. Cricket matches were played on the common throughout the early 18th century. The earliest recorded first-class match was the London v Dartford match on 18 June 1724.[16] However, as the common was also used regularly for public executions of those convicted at the Surrey Assizes (it was the south London equivalent of Tyburn), cricket matches had moved away to the Artillery Ground by the 1740s. Kennington Common was eventually enclosed in the mid-19th century under a scheme sponsored by the royal family.

Well organised, good safe security. Easy to get in and out. Food / drink courts underneath Peter May and John Edrich stands excellent with great choice and excellent value for such a venue

An iconic cricket ground, scene of elation and heartbreak for me as an avid follower of English cricket. The tickets here for internationals can be expensive compared to grounds like Trentbridge or Edgbaston. Their policy is to not allow any alcohol brought in, unlike Lords the home of cricket, which means a day here can be very expensive

My favourite cricket stadium in Lambeth. Always a fabulous day out, even if you don't like cricket. Always such a phenomenal atmosphere, even if there's no one else there, and it's raining, and you're actually just standing outside waiting for a bus. Even then - still a great atmosphere.
It's not Lords, but it is a cricket stadium in London. If you like watching Surrey play cricket in their home ground, then you have to go to The Oval! It's sponsored by Kia, but you barely notice that when you're there. Plenty of toilets.

It partly depends on the cricket of course. The museum is pretty good and the members facilities fine, it s quite basic otherwise. If you are going DO CHECK the refunds policy - as in May, I bought a ticket at 10, at the gate for an 11 More

Came here to watch the Ashes. Very smooth entry to the ground with a simple bag check. Staff were all friendly & helpful inside the ground. Lots of food & drink outlets available. Very crowded in the breaks so you have to go with the flow of the crowd at times. Toilet facilities were fine but queues for the gents out the door. Seats in the public stands are all pretty close to the action. 5 mins walk from Oval tube with bus stops outside too.

The oval, quintessentially british. The omnipresent members stadium is the front you see when exiting oval tube station. Considering Im a local I may be bias but it offers a unique experience during the short british summer. Whether your a cricket fan or not this place will provide you with a experience you never forget. For better or for Worse ;)

great cricket ground and very accessible from Oval tube station. A 2 minute walk.
Great to have 2 fantastic cricket grounds in london.
Loads of places inside to get food and drink too. Luck was not on our side last night as a lot of rain shortened the game, but still a great venue
