Kauai backcountry adventures Review

I went on their tubing experience and it was wonderful. Exciting without being difficult and beautiful scenery. The staff is friendly and funny while still being professional. I went right after Hawaii reopened during covid and they did a lovely job making sure our meal was provided safely. Don t miss this experience!

My husband and I did this adventure and it was amazing!!!!!!!!! So fun and a great way to see the lay of the land. Will definitely do it again!!

We booked a party of 8 originally and two in our party couldn't make it. The refund process was super easy. Additionally, we had two kids in our party and one was a very petite 7 year old. The entire team was fantastic with her. There was so much history on this tour as well as humor, adventure and fun. We strongly suggest Ekolu as a guide (if you have a choice.) Both my kids have asked to book this again when we come back to Kauai.

Hello all, just wanted to put out another 5 start review of this outfit and the staff (most importantly!) Wyatt and Eli were OUTSTANDING guides and made the tubing experience stellar!!! All the staff were fantastic but these two went the extra mile for our safety, comfort and entertainment. You won't be disappointed. We're going to come back and do it again next year. NOTE: the tunnels aren't good if you're claustrophobic!

We did the tubing and the zip lining. Staff was very accommodating, knowledgable, and fun. Each adventure was awesome!

We went tubing through the old irrigation tunnels. The water was amazingly refreshing from the hot morning in the gardens. Our guides and drivers gave us a great history tour about the area and had us laughing the whole ride. Our guides were Nick and Pancha with help from Nikoa. Our driver was Sherry.

We did both zip lining and tubing !! BOTH were awesome !!! LOVED THE STAFF, the organization of the business .. so impressed. Drake and Michael are awesome ziplining guides !! loved them!!! and Wes, Evee,, Sam, Wyatt (tubing) were just as awesome.. I would do these adventures over and over again with them... so worth the money.. so much fun !!! WHAT A GREAT OUTFITTER .. next time when we go I will be requesting the same guides !!!! DO IT IT SO WORTH IT !!!

A worthy, fun filled and educational tour with professional entertaining guides Eli and Wyatt! Even for us "olders" in our 60's, we had a blast. Would be a fun adventure for any family as it is safe and safely is number one with these tour guides. Didn't even pay attention to the cool water which was moving enough we never had to work, just enjoy tubing. One small waterfall of 3 feet and it was easy. The drive up to the plantation tour guide Eli provided lots of history. Tunnels were not spooky, we actually took one with the lights off! Nice picnic near a swim hole following.....it was just fun, fun, fun! Everyone should give this one a try. They take professional pics along the way so you don't have to worry about missing a pic! Their giftshop is also reasonable. We will go again next year on our return trip. You won't be disappointed!

This is a unique experience floating on intertubes through 150 yr old hand dug tunnels. The guides were very knowledgeable and had some good quips. The tour takes place of private land so there are views not readily accessible to most people.

Things to know: bring water shoes, flip flops won't cut it and you'll have to rent Crocs.

You aren't floating the entire 3 hours probably about half that time.

Seirra is amazing! This was our favorite part of the trip, we'd recommend this to everyone

We have done the tubing twice, 2013 and 2018. Super fun and relaxing both times. Low effort fun side trip.

Oh man! oh man! Oh man!! This was such a great adventure and a great company to work with! The tour guides were awesome and super down to earth! Loved their energy and the information they gave us was awesome! Book this early because I hear it fills up fast during the busy season. We got lucky and were able to book only a few days in advance and I m so so happy we made it in! The only thing that could have made this booking better would have been to do it sooner and get more of their great island tips!
Our tour guides included Tandy and Saxsen along with a few others whose names I can t remember. Seriously an awesome crew.
The tunnels are amazing and the tour is long enough that you really feel like you re experiencing the full effect! Really cool to see the sugar cane tunnels and heat some of the stories and then be able to tune through them. The helmets were definitely necessary because you may knock your head on the walls a couple of times.
They serve you lunch afterward and it s delicious. We will definitely come back and do this with our kids! One of the best things we ve done on the island so far!

I knew that I wanted to do the tubing trip. But I wasn't sure what to expect. I hear that there are concerns about those with back injuries, and I couldn't get answers about why that was the concern. The drive up wasn't bad. The road was fairly smooth for most of the road, and the dirt portion wasn't bad at all. The tubing portion has you scrunched into a tube for a while, so how you position yourself can be a concern.

The guides were great. Very entertaining, Very informative, and they kept your attention fairly well. Of all the things that I did in Kauai, this is one of the most rewarding for the money spent.

Make sure you lock up your valuables in the car. Only bring with you, the things you plan on getting in the water with. They do have totes for you to drop things off, but if you plan ahead, then you don't need to worry.

Most of the tubing trip was smooth and relaxing. There is one dip that you go down, but it isn't much to sweat about.

They take photos throughout the trip, so if you don't bring a camera it isn't a huge deal, but we brought a waterproof camera. I know I saw some people with go pro's

There is a catered lunch at the end. Nothing spectacular, but it was nice. Basically a cold cut (you assemble) sandwich which chips and water.

Our tubing trip featured two professional showmen ladies. Jess and Sheri were full of fun facts and information. They were comical and attentive. The ride to the tubing was full of great views. The tubing was very different and unique. I cant believe no one has shot a movie scene in those tunnels.
I must say that the after-tubing, lunch wasnt really necessary. It takes up time within the 3 hour tour, its quaint, but not what I would choose if I was in wanting lunch in Hawaii, and I can image what the charge for the make-a-sandwich lunch cost us if it were broken down

Great times! These people are extremely organized. The little kids were even fine (although we had none of our own). It may seems a bit scary, but there is nothing to fear.

We were guided by Gauge and Lucky. Gauge was extremely funny and a really great guide. Tubing was super relaxed and unique with tunnels and a couple small drops. Lunch was part of the deal, it was a great build your own sandwhich situation.

They were an excellent group. This is a great tour for all ages. The zip lining and tubing was amazing. The staff is welcoming, friendly, gives advice, and trained well. I was nervous to zipline and the guides made me feel safe, concerned, and did what was best for us. They were knowledgeable and an amazing view. All should do this on their visit to the island.

Our group of 10 all enjoyed the adventure tubing through the tunnels. Good fun! The water was not near as cold as some people male it out to be.

My husband and I did the tubing down the mountain and enjoyed every second of it! It was such a unique experience and we would do it again in a heartbeat. What made the experience even better was our two tour guides we had, Chelsea and Laki. They are locals to Kauai and gave us very interesting and informative information about the island. They both also had amazing personalities! Great company and experience!

We had a great time on the tour, and our guide was fun. The only missing star was because we wished it was a longer ride, but we still spent a lot of time in the water. We love Kauai and now we have something new to do on the island. Book ahead of time!

This place is a must go to when you are on the island of Kauai. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The guides Amia and Sherri were the best they interacted with all the guest. They were very funny and made the tour even funner. They even told us some if the history of the island.

The tubing was a blast, the guides were helpful and knowledgeable.

The sugarcane industry ended on Kauai in 2009 leaving behind 100 year-old, hand-dug irrigation ditches and tunnels. Today you can take an hour-plus ride down the ins and outs of these waterways. As a kid growing up on the neighboring island of Oahu, I always thought it would be fun to do this. Ask for Curt KB guide, EMT, and future SF 18D (no pressure, Curt) and Malachi KB guide, future Asheville entrepreneur/resident.

Really unique, but a bit slower than expected. Guides were fantastic, as I believe we had Caden and Josh? (Memory is slipping on their names). Very funny and helped us find some great things to do that evening as well. This is a must do while visiting Kauai for your first time.

This tour is fantastic! It is a good one for the whole family. The tour guides make it fun and interesting. They have a good sense of humor. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the island.

If you ever get the chance to go on this adventure, take it! My son and I were going to have to go an hour apart but they found a way to get us together. The tour guides were great at getting the people to feel comfortable with each other, and to enjoy our adventure. I can't wait to return.

If you want to have a really good time and meet some really awesome people you need to take the tubing tour. The guides are both very knowledgeable and professional. Very laid back and easy to get along with. We absolutely had an awesome time.

This is a MUST for anyone visiting the east coast of kauai. We did the tubing through the old plantation, and it was so much fun. We never stopped smiling the whole time. Even the less exciting drive up to the launch area was fun, since our guides were so cute and had a great comedy schtick going on.

The tubing experience was so fun. The water was chilly, but you got used to it in about one minute. After that we started going down the river. The pace was nice and quick, but not too quick. Then we went through the tunnels, which were so awesome. They were carved out by hand over 100 years ago. Very cool!!

After the adventure, there was a 30 minute lunch. Nothing fancy, just sandwiches, chips, cookies, and water, but it hit the spot.

We wanted to go back and do it again! Loved, loved, loved it!

Great experience! Water was breathtaking. Due to recent circumstances, we weren't able to have the lunch at the end of the tubing, but they gave us the pictures for free, which is a great gesture! would recommend for anyone to do!

I honestly had. More fun talking to our guide and in the van then I did on the river haha. Not talking away from the river that was fun but they were awesome people.

Unbelievably rude. One of the employees jumped down my throat for looking at a helmet. Way too confrontational and rude over nothing. He tried to argue with me and compared me touching "his" helmet to him coming into my house and touching my stuff. Redicilulous behavior. Unfortunately, he was one of our guides. Ruined my day knowing we spent almost $1300 to float down a canal for an hour and this is their attitude and the way they talk and treat their customers. Very disappointing, unappreciated and surprised. Never again.

My family had the best time tubing with Backcountry Adventures. I was nervous about how my six year old would do in the tunnels and our guy Kai stayed with her in the dark caves to makes sure she was ok. We did several tours on this trip and Kai was the best tour guide we had!

Johnny and Cody were exceptional guides! Hilarious and helpful throughout the tubing adventure. The water only moves you a bit faster than a lazy river so you don't have to stress about going through anything extreme, other than the ancient tunnels! The lunch was better than I expected and was in a beautiful grotto. The water was quite refreshing.

One thing you have to know going in is that you can't hold onto your loved ones tube (causes blockages) so you will get separated at points. There's only one route so they will catch up, but it's more of a "sit and relax and let the canal take you" type of adventure. Once you hit that relaxation point in the invigorating water, you will love it.

This excursion was AWESOME. My sister, nieces and I had a blast. Our guides were so good and funny too! Thank you so much for an amazing adventure to add to our 2019 Sisters Trip.

A very cool very unique adventure! Our guide, Chelsea, is native to Kauai and had tons of interesting information about the property and the entire island. I was skeptical when the hubby booked, but it was beautiful, interesting and a ton of fun! Some of the tunnels are dark and bouncy, so keep that in mind if you've got small kids. Our 14 and 11 year olds walked away smiling!

The staff is very friendly, funny and willing to answer ALMOST any question. The ride itself was really fun, with safety as the number one priority.

Can t recommend highly enough. We ziplined and then did the tubing adventure in the same day and I can seriously say it was one of the funnest days of my life. Everyone who works there is local and loves their home and it shows. Kevin and Cody made the zipline feel both safe and adventurous and the tubing felt truly unique. I can t wait to come back and do it all again with friends.

We did the tubing adventure. What fun. The tubing in the tunnels was great and not something you can do anywhere else. The ride there was absolutely beautiful. Had a great lunch in a gem of a spot also. Our guides, Chelsea and Moka (sorry for misspelling your name), were so informative and fun. Learned the history of the island. Also given tips on others place to visit/eat. Recommend this adventure, you will see things and learn things you would not otherwise.

Kai and Caylie were a great combo for the ride up and Chelsea/Kai did a fabulous job taking care of us on our awesome adventure!!!

Amazing adventure. From the moment we left the base, the whole tubing adventure, and all the way back to base we were smiling and laughing. This was a great adventure and well worth the time and money.

It was a great experience from beginning to end for our entire group (ages 7 to 78).
