Kauai backcountry adventures Review

Had a great time. Kids really enjoyed. The staff were all young and very personable. Chason and Canaan were awesome. So friendly and helpful and they really rocked the bad jokes in the orientation like a seasoned dad.

This tour was great. The guides were friendly, knowledgeable and all in all did a fantastic job from beginning to end. This is one thing we will do again when we come back to Kauai. Note, book before you arrive as this is the only tubing adventure on the island.

This place was a blast! Unfortunately I can't remember my guides' names (sorry y'all!) but I really think all of their guides/employees are fantastic. They encouraged us all to get to know each other in the van on the way to the drop-in, and while that's normally pretty cringe-worthy, our group was super personable and it was pretty fun.

The tubing experience consisted of a van drive up to the drop-in (and a stop to view Mount Waialeale), then the tubing itself (involving dark tunnels and finishing up with a "lazy river"). Definitely bring water shoes/sandals with a backstrap (but you can rent Crocs from them for $5 if you don't), bring towels, sunscreen, and I definitely recommend a watertight phone case. Some of my most fun pics from my Kauai trip came from this experience! We went on the 12:30 tour, so lunch was included - not sure what they do for earlier/later tours.

The guides took questions about the island and gave recommendations (even down to who to ask for at a given restaurant) so they are great resources.

I'm so glad my friend recommended them to me - and I hope you'll visit them based on this recommendation too!

I highly recommend! One of the best Ziplines on the whole, family of Hawaiian islands. The best time, most fun tour is the tube ride down the irrigation canal, and they (tour guides) make the experience. They are extremely friendly, intertaining, and sing/play ukulele (polular island songs). Great Manager, is a huge plus: Apoha, and he makes it all happen.

Really fun excursion! My wife and I did the tubing trip on our honeymoon and had a blast! Most of the time is spent in the irrigation tunnels, not out in the open, so might not be great idea for people who get claustrophobic. The water moves at a good clip, and you have a couple "rapid" like features as well which is fun. Definitely worth doing if in Kauai!

Best thing we did all trip. Josh m and Josh w were the piece de resistance but all the staff were friendly and informative.

This was a great activity for the two of us. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great tour guides as well. On the way to the starting point, you get to stop for a beautiful view of the island mountains. The tubing was great. The tunnels are great as well. I would do this again.

The guides were great! Locals who are passionate about their home and their culture. The trip itself was amazing!! Would love to do this again!

Highly recommend tubing! We did tubing in April and it was a great time. At first we thought it was a little $$ but the day was faultless. A lot of fun, it was relaxing AND they fed us with lunch at the end. . Big thanks to Shae and Andrew

My wife and I did the mountain tubing for our honeymoon. We had an absolute blast! This is a must when you come to Kauai. Online reservations were a snap. They do book up fast, so I recommend booking before you leave the mainland a week or so ahead. Their main facilities are clean and organized. Our guides were great. Ask for Yoshi if you can. The guy is hilarious and really knows his history, culture, and irrigation ditch. Skip the sunglasses you don't need them. The trip takes you through 5 tunnels and is shaded by thick canopy of trees when out in the open. Bring water shoes or old tennis shoes. A lot big sleeve sun shirt or water shirt is nice, the water is brisk. It is originating from way up in the mountains after all. The only thing I would want is a longer trip. Have fun. Enjoy! Tubing ride is really nice, not scary or difficult. Staff is very kind and knowledgeable. Great history lessons!

The tubing was incredible. So unique. Great company. Make sure you swim in river after the war lunch. Great guides and a very fun activity. This is a very gentle ride that goes through tunnels which are nice and wide so no claustrophobia. They provide gloves, a helmet with headlamp and crocs for your feet. These are helpful when you are going through the tunnels. Highly recommend.

A warm Kauai smile greeted us at warehouse check in. Then your led down to the benches for the legal beagle stuff while enjoying the delicious apple-bananas!
If your early like we were, keep yourself busy with the small but fascinating museum boards, bag tossing games or have a free photo OP with the tube and the tunnel backdrop! Before you know it, your on your way to the most relaxing, fun, wet, fast, sliding, pitch black tunnel fun you've ever had! Hold on and strap in as the road there is a bumpy one!
We had Sherry and Malikei (sp) making us laugh and giving wonderful rich history of the Islands and the old plantation in a perfect blend to pass the time.
WOW, 3 paragraphs and we've yet to even get in the water! Well, just as caring that Sherry and Malikai are about history, they also get you in the tubes and water the same way! As you start your float, you're greeted by a 3rd helper, who I'm sorry to say I've forgotten her beautiful name that goes perfect with her beautiful serenading voice and coy cuteness! Be forewarned... she likes to "stir things up" I'll just leave it at that!
As much as I'd love to give you play by play of what to expect on the float, the element of surprise is what makes this trip a 5 star adventure!
Please, the gloves and helmets you're given do come in handy, go for the "war paint" and remember "Turn on/Turn off"!!

A more accurate title to this activity should be Watertubing in Pitch Dark Tunnels . Do NOT do this if you re claustrophobic! Over priced imo. Included lunch is make your own sandwich. No drinks except water. Actual tubing time is maybe 30-45 min. However staff members were super friendly

This tour was so relaxing and unique. Joel, our guide was informative, funny, and personable. John made sure none of us were left behind and entertained those in the back of the tour. I would definitely fit this tour in if you have time.

I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, but tubing down the sugar cane irrigation canals turned out to be a really fun and somewhat relaxing way to spend a few hours. The guides were knowledgeable and fun. The whole vibe was relaxed and friendly. Just what I needed.

The guides were awesome and very energetic on the tubing tour. They involved the entire group and kept it interesting. They kept us informed of what they were doing and they seemed to be well versed in history of the local area.

Chelsey and Maka were our tour guides and they were nice. So much knowledge and history from two natives and funny. One of our best experiences. Recommend everyone who visits Kauai goes tubing.

We absolutely LOVED our tubing experience! BJ and Jordan were not only educational about the land and history of the island but we re so fun. They made the experience go from good to great! We would totally do this again.

Andrew and Kyle were awesome. Friendly and funny. Kailey at the front desk area is great!!! The tubing itself was so much fun! The water was invigorating, refreshing, stimulating and rejuvenating! Lunch was delicious. This was our first time, and if we're ever back on Kauai (which is probable) we'll definitely do this again!

What a fun experience! It is an adventure the entire family can experience and relax a little while doing so. You learn a little about the history of Kauai along with riding on a tube! Water can be a little cold but once you re in and used to it you can enjoy the ride! The tour guides are funny and genuine, Johnny and Ladti (sp?!) are awesome!

I had a great time on the Backcountry Adventure Tour in Kauai. Family friendly, water was Brisk and refreshing, and tour guides were amazing. Shout out to T. T was fun , vibrant, new her stuff and made tour fun.!! Cant wait to go back. I recommend booking months in advance because the tours do fill up fast , but i got lucky because it was just me.

Super friendly tour guides. The water was a bit cold, so definitely an hot day activity; but the tour was good! They included some history about the plantation the river sits on, as well as lunch / dinner at the end of the tour. They had a make your own sandwich buffet including chips and a cookie.

My family and I had a memorable time. Our tour guides were very knowledgeable of the history of the island, the water canals and we enjoyed our trip down the river and caves. We felt well taken care of and would recommend it to any family while visiting Kauai.

This was a much-anticipated adventure for my honeymoon and it turned out really great! The ride from the main building to the drop-in point was about 20-30 minutes, with entertaining guides chatting and telling the history of the property and island along the way. There was a stop at a lookout that made a good photo op, then a short drive from there to drop-in. The float itself felt much faster than I expected, but it was really fun. You cannot control which direction you're facing (lots of spinning) so if you get dizzy easily, know that. It was also a little jarring running into people and walls, but that's part of the float and is expected. The people running the tour and the drivers were all really great. It was fun and worth it.

Definitely worth the money. We had great guides and the tubing was fun. We went the first week of March, so it was a little chilly, but once you got in the water was okay (water temp was 70). Definitely worth the experience. It can be done with the whole family (the guides take great care of the kids).

Amazing experience!! Brendan & Cody were so fun and made us feel so comfortable. We did the tubing. Someone did lose their phone and I think someone else their glasses in the water so I do not recommend taking yours but other than that, amazing views and unforgettable experience. Worth every penny, would definitely go again!

So much fun. Tour and tube float was unbelievable like always. We have done this before and we are never disappointed . The employees are always so much fun. If you have a chance, dont skip this one because it is beautiful, unique, full of history and very entertaining.

My favorite part is the continuous flow of water, not really like rafting but great for family adventure...

Our family of four absolutely loved our tubing adventure. BJ was an incredible guide. We learned a lot about Kauai on the way up to the tubing and then the experience itself was fun and enjoyable. I am claustrophobic so I was worried about the tunnels but I did just fine. Never felt any worries. This was such a fun outing! Totally recommend it!

We went tubing with Back Country. Our guide Boom was great. At home when something is mind blowing I usually shout Boom in honor of mind blowing explosions! And in this case Boom lived up to my expression as a guide. Mind Blown, excellent morning adventure.

We chose to do the zip-line and tubing combo to experience both and save a little money. I feel the combo is definitely worth it because you make a whole day out of it and it breaks the driving up pretty well. Also, small fun fact, if you do the combo it limits the group size to 11 which makes the tubing portion a lot nicer and not as crowded. I think our guides are what truly make the experience fun and entertaining. We had Saxson and Markus (marcus?). They were great, and made sure everyone was comfortable with the zip-lining and that no one was left behind in the tubing. The water is "refreshing" and it's such a unique experience. it's a relaxing float with a few rapids and I loved all the caves/tunnels you got to go through. I will say take Dramamine if you get dizzy because the tubes spin.

Fun and beautiful tour up to man made ditch and that was only the beginning! The tubing was awesome and worth the money to be able to tube through man made caves and enjoy the beauty of kauai. The drive up is awesome as there is no other way to see this part of kuaia. Our tour guide poo was also wonderful and a lot of fun. The entire group was very professional, prepared and had a lot of fun energy!

This is a definite big hit with all ages- book in advance- we had ages 7 to 70 and everyone had a blast- can't wait to do it again

We did the three-hour tube ride through the Lihue sugar plantation, and we had a great time. The tour guides were great, and the tubing itself was a lot of fun. (Also, surprisingly, the complementary lunch afterwards that they provide was quite nice; I am not used to the lunch being good on these sorts of things.) Best thing that we didn't expect: the forest that surrounds the tube river is gorgeous -- seriously, it's worth doing this tubing ride as a *sightseeing activity*. Selling this as a 'sugar plantation' is underselling it!

My self my wife and my in laws had a great time rafting in hawaii. Can't wait to take the grandkids.

They were great for our tubing ride, great for kids, i got a little bored. but you would never see that country if it werent for the tour, so they still get a 5 star.

My husband and I did the mountain tubing adventure on our recent trip to Kaua'i. We had an amazing time and our guides (Gabe & BJ) were great. They were very friendly and provided a history of the area. During the trip you float down a 'lazy river' which is actually a man made canal that runs through an old sugar plantation. You get to travel through 5 tunnels during the trip. I was a little nervous about going underground, but the tunnels are very wide and I did not have any issues. We were provided with helmets and gloves to protect our head and hands from any protruding rocks.
They provide tubs for everyone to put their items in (beach towel, change of clothes, etc.) before getting on the tubes. When you make it to the end of the float, your belongings will be waiting for you.
They also take photos of you on the river which you can buy after the tour. You can download all of the photos from the trip for $40, which I though was a very reasonable price compared to many other excursions I have been on.
I have been tubing before, but this was definitely a unique experience. Would highly recommend the tour if you are visiting Kauai.

Tubing was a ton of fun! They provided helmet and gloves, bring water shoes (not flip-flops) and a towel. Fun travelling thru tunnels and floating along. The guides were great at keeping everyone together and sharing info about the area! Would def recommend

If I could I would give this company 10 stars. They were fantastic with my 6 & 8 yr olds during our tubing tour, so much so the 6yr old wanted a blue t-shirt like the cool big boy guide.

Such a fun and unique experience! Really cool to tube down the canals and in the tunnels. It was also a great mix of relaxation and adventure fun. Our guide BJ was great and made the day better. The only issue would be riding in the vans up the worst road imaginable. I would definitely do this again!

The tubing adventure was a cool trip back into the history of Kauai and the sugar cane fields that once dominated this island. The channels you ride in are fast enough to be fun, but not fast enough to scare the little ones. Water shoes are a must. They supply the gloves and helmets. Lunch was just right. Make your own sandwich bar with chips, cookie and a drink. My family had a great time with our guide Kai who did a great job keeping us entertained and informed.

We had a great time. If you are looking for a plai back, family friendly trip, this is it. Dustin, our guide, was funny and helpful. Besides having knowledge of the area as it relates to the tour, he was also very helpful in giving recommendations for lunches, happy hour and dinners. Once again, had a great time.

The best thing we had done on our family vacation. We had so much fun and our guides, Wyatt and Kody were hilarious! Great little adventure even on a rainy day. Would definitely recommend and do it again!

We had a wonderful time tubing through caves. The crew was very attentive to our safety.
They followed it up with delicious sandwiches and they also protected us from the chickens eating our food.

The photos included the scenery since we did not have our phones to take pictures.

We did the $100 pp Plantation Tuning trip. Highly recommended. Our guides, Joel and Abe, were awesome. They made the trip fun and educational. The tubing trip takes you down the mountain through 160 year old sugarcane irrigation system including several hand-cutout caves through the mountain. Lunch was included and was very good- make your own sandwich buffet, chips, cookies. The entire trip took about 3 hours including a beautiful drive up the mountain with a couple stops at gorgeous nature vistas

It was one of the best experience of the tour.

Fun! The water is chilly. It's very safe - helmets, gloves & headlights included. Tubes for every size person. It's only 2 - 3 feet deep for the most part (some areas are even more shallow). This includes 5 tunnels and ends with a lunch. I'll do it again!

We really enjoyed the tubing adventure in Kauai. I was a little worried about getting clostraphobic in the tunnels but I wasn't at all, they are quite big and with the lights you feel totally safe; plus it's so fun! We had our 8 and 6 year old boys with us and they did awesome and LOVED it...we questioned if they would do ok sitting in the rafts as our 6 year old is still a little guy...but the company has smaller sized kid tubes and both our boys fit and did awesome throughout the experience...one tip if you are worried about a little one, bring your own life jacket as they do not have them. The water is only 3 ft deep but its fast moving and dark tunnels, I liked the security of our kids being in life jackets with how young they are.

The tourguides, especially Cody, were really friendly and helpful. Without them, the trip wouldn't have been fun. In my opinion, the amount of 125$ (without taxes) is overpriced. Even though it's advertised with 3 hours, you spend 1 of them in the canal, the rest is filled with transportation, history telling and an unnecessary lunchbreak (take this away and make it cheaper). Still, it was fun and the nature is breathtaking.

Great fun! Relaxing, informative, beautiful scenery, and our guide John was very knowledgable about the island, especially the hiking trails. Made me want to get in better shape and attempt some of the ones he mentioned. He played the ukulele and sang during our ride and many of us were singing along. As some other reviewers pointed out, this wasn't a white-water rafting trip, nor was it billed as one. Absolutely worth doing again, and I would recommend this trip to my friends and family.

We LOVED our tubing adventure, it was AMAZING! The best thing about it, we met Pancha, she's AMAZING. So are Kanen and Rafa. We had an amazing time and really recommended it. The bananas and lunch were delicious and the adventure was astounding memories that'll last forever! With the $270 we spent. An additional $40 for the company pictures, $25 for a shirt & $5 for a really cool wood post card I didn't see other places on the island.

My husband and I recently went tubing and had so much fun! Our tour guide Cody did a fantastic job. We had a ton of fun and got to learn a lot about the sugar cane plantation as well. We will definitely be coming back!

I was very hesitant to do this because I tend to have lower back pain after sitting for a while, but my husband really wanted to do it! The morning of, I was feeling horrible, but decided to go anyways. It was really nice that they let us bring everything with us, this made it much less stressful for me. It was also reassuring that they have bathrooms all over the place! Our guide Chelsea & (I think Mike? or John?) - were really great - she had some very interesting bits of information to share in the van ride up. I decided to wear a wetsuit shirt, and I am glad that I did. Because you get a little wet and then you are in the dark cave and not in the sun. My only "complaint" is that the staff splashed you with water when you first got in. The water was not cold, that is not why I am "upset" (Sept 22) but it is fresh water that I do NOT want in my mouth. This is just a little bit of feedback for the tour guides. I hate fresh water and I really did not want it in my mouth, too many potential diseases for someone with health issues like myself. Anyways - other than that the tour was AWESOME. I was very discouraged when they told us that we would be separated from our partner/family - this was not something that I was aware of, and had I of know I probably would not have booked this. BUT, it was fine. I would have enjoyed it much more if I could have conversed with my husband, but it would be nearly impossible to keep everyone together. It was still fun to take a moment to myself and "relax". Some parts do get a little rough, this is definitely not a tour for someone frail or who cant follow directions. My husband is a big guy and he hit his head a few times on the walls, I snagged my feet several times (wear GOOD quality water shoes) - I found the part of the tour where they shut the lights off exciting but also dangerous. My husband got caught up with someone and got stuck and they couldn't see and caused a back up. I could just hear him yelling which made me very nervous. But, he was fine, as soon as I heard him laughing I felt better. The tour guide in the front sand on the ukulele which was so cool, and he did a great job! Overall, I would recommend this tour to family and friends traveling to the island. In fact, we will probably do it again next time we visit. Not many places in the world that you can do something like that!

This place is off the chain! Best time on the Island by far Echo and Maddy were awesome tour guides! Big thumbs up!
