The pastrami was so good, but about 18$ for a sandwich, though it's got a lot of meat in it, it's pretty overpriced. The counter is made of plexiglass which looks very scratched and opaque, should be changed. Unfortunately I must say that the restrooms were probably the worst I've ever been in, everything was very old and definitely needs a restoration, plus the on entire pavement for some unknown reason, plenty of sawdust was spread.

I've been going here off-&-on since the mid-80's. It is still pretty much as it has always been. The sandwiches aren't as big and price has gone down (adjusted for inflation) and that's a good thing. My corned beef sandwich was a bit off today but I'll say that was a one off.

Good food but staff has attitude issues. I understand whole vibe they are going for but I'm not eating for free. So, I don't appreciate it when cutter just walks away while I am asking a question about food after I waited more then an hour out in cold.

A bit pricey but the sandwiches are big enough to share. I found it was easier to get a table with a waiter to avoid getting yelled for not knowing the menu. I did witness some yelling. It was a bit weird to keep track of a ticket that must be turned in at the end of the meal. Other than that the food was good.

The walls are covered with pictures of famous people from actors to singers many more. If your in the area stop by see for your self.

Pastrami on rye? Yes please. This place is everything you want it to be and more. When we went, the sandwich was so big we saved half for later that day. Absolutely delicious. The price is stopping this place being 5*'s.

Special location, old style with many tables and take away service too. We arrived at 1,30 p.m. and find a long line outside the door. Fortunately it goes on fast. Inside wait for setting around 15', drinking and tasting something at the counter. At the table, the paradise of Patrami!!! Wonderful, the best we can find. Service ok and bill, in 4 person with 3 beer been 100 dollars.

You absolutely cannot visit NYC without dropping by at Katz's. Its absolutely inconceivable that you did not bite into their delicious pastrami if you are in the city. You start with a ticket at the entrance and select your cutter. A sample will be given to you to taste when you order your pastrami. Don't forget to tip your cutter at this point. Hard to find a seat so try to come early or after the lunch crowd. If you can find Sally's seat then go for it. (When Harry Met Sally Movie) The sandwich portion is huge... good for 2 person so unless you got a giant appetite have the other half wrapped to go and the other half for dining in. Side dish of pickles for your meal. Present your ticket at the checkout counter on the way out. This is a food experience you do not want to miss if you happen to be in NYC.

Great food and classic NYC landmark that everyone should visit while in the city. Lines can be long on weekend afternoons, I would recommend going at an off time. Be sure to try the pastrami on rye and matzo ball soup

As this was our first visit, we opted for a sit-down-and-order-from-wait-staff table. Good choice, since the stand and order lines were too long, and the wait staff was perfectly prompt, helpful, and patient. I knew the corned beef sandwiches would be HUGE, so I did the combo: 1/2 sandwich and bowl of soup (get the split pea!). Wife got a 'full-size' turkey sandwich (only), and turned out big enough to take one half to-go for later two serving snacks on the train. Perfect! If you don't eat here, you have not been to New York City!
I rate Katz's five stars, only because there is not a six-star rating available.
PS: Their thirst-quenching, ice-cold "Katz's Ale", from Brooklyn Brewery, goes perfect with the corned beef.

Best Deli on Earth

Best Deli on Earth

Just as good today as when my dad took me there 40+ years ago.

Try the tongue on rye.

Everyone must experience Katz's Deli at least once. We go every time we are in NYC. The lines can be quite long at lunch and it is a bit confusing for first-timers as they don't really tell you how to order and the counter ordering area can be hectic and overwhelming. Just stand in line, tell them what you want and they will give you a sample of the meat. You give them your ticket and they right down the charge, You have to go to a separate line to order drinks, french fries, potato salad, etc. I always order this after the sandwich is made because this line is super fast and you don't want your fries to get cold! The prices will knock your socks off...about $18 for a pastrami on rye. The fries are another $5 or $6.... BUT-- the portions are HUGE. We are good eaters but always share a sandwich and one order of fries. Knowing this, it brings the total cost to a more reasonable level. They only accept cash-- so, be aware of that, too. The place is filled with tons of pictures of celebrities-- very cool to look at. One day, there just maybe someone famous there when we visit! Highly recommend-- you will never eat better pastrami!

Pizza is great, but some employees are just rude. The reputation New Yorkers have was true in his case.
But everything else was superb! The good, the desserts and the coffee.
Cheap and beautiful.

I love going to Katz to eat especially after hanging out in LES, the pastrami nad corned beef sandwich is the best i have ever tasted and the amount of meat they slapped on those sandwiches with the kosher pickles is insane and enough to make about 3 sandwiches but i like having one to myself. The price is reasonable and normally when i eat there it's packed with people who have just come from the local bars that flood LES. The staff is good and the services is fast

Well, this is probably the only place you won't mind waiting in line for 20 minutes for the most expensive sandwich on earth, because once you get this mammoth thing full of meat, you will love it. Just don't go if you have a large family, because you don't get change out of $20 for a sandwich. And I didn't get to meet Harry or Sally

Great, iconic NYC location. When you get in, take a ticket and keep it with you. You hand over the ticket whenever you order something at one of the counters, and your server adds a running total on the ticket. You pay after you've eaten, either at the back counter if you're paying on card, or the front counter if you're paying in cash. Still keep your tickets, as that's how you get out. Great experience, great food; a 100% must visit in New York!

Was super excited to visit this place today. We came all the way from Australia. When we arrived the security guards were the rudest people we have ever met. The staff inside was not any better. Katz has lost its moral values and is only in it for the money and not customer satisfaction. As famous as this place can be, taking pictures out front is the farthest you should go.

The pastrami sandwich was horrible. It was all fat and grizzly. Our sandwiches looked nothing like everyone elses. This was my first and last time there. I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone, if your looking for a great sandwich.
The staff was very rude with no customer service skills.

Very busy and crowded. Either a fairly long wait for table service or you stand in line for your food and bring it to the table yourself. Pastrami sandwich is $22 which seemed pricey to me although it was huge. Food is good but what a scene! Iconic deli in NYC

Apparently, for the experience, you are supposed to eat here. The food was normal and EXTREMELY overpriced. The people taking the order were not friendly, they seemed like I should be grateful for eating in their restaurant. You have to order food and drink in two different places (waited in line for both). It was not clean, the bathrooms were not clean. Really gets 2 stars but will put three for margin of error in the official review.

It s not about luxury. It s a Deli. But not just any Deli. It s Katz s Delicatessen. It s also about traditions. Eating with friends and family an incredible array of sandwiches that melt in your mouth. Katz's Pastrami Hot Sandwich. Katz's Corned Beef Hot Sandwich. Katz's Reuben Hot Sandwich. Potato Latkes. Steak-cut Fries. Matzo Ball Soup. Chicken Noodle Soup. And much more... This is by far, my favorite Delicatessen not only in New York but in America. Katz s Delicatessen. Despite the high volume of tourists, Katz's retains it's authentic identity and flavor. Get a half sandwich with matzo ball soup. The pastrami is very good, but don't overlook the corned beef. The matzo ball knocked my socks off.

I have been going to Katz's since I am kid. My Father use to sell candy and cigarettes to Katz's Deli . I love there food and its just a great place to go for a good Brisket of Beef sandwich with Mayo on Rye or Club bread. They also make great Corn Beef and Pastrami ..The french fries are great as well.
Its a great place to go if you have not been there as of yet.

Everyone wants a big pastrami sandwich. Katz is the place to go. Get a ticket, hold on to it and then go to the respective counters to order and pick up your dish. If the process is too crazy for you, they do have seating where there are waiters. The famed When Harry Met Sally table is here. Shrugs shoulders.

Well... this is very famous place and I am pretty sure that half of Hollywood visited this place. It's easily confirmed by gazillion pictures of the Hollywood celebrities. Food is fantastic! We split one sandwich with my friend and I was super full. PICKLES!!! Soooo good :)
