One of the quintessential NYC deli's. Go for the giant pastrami sandwich on rye with housemade mustard. The potato knishes are also quite good. Not a bad place to sit in and eat and take in the surroundings.

We visited for a few days and was told to check out Kats by some friends. I m so happy we did! The place was pretty busy and seating was limited, but for the quality and flavor of the sandwich and fries, it was absolutely worth it! Great portions too!

The reasons this place is deservedly historic are all true. Believe them. It remains because it is the best representation of NYC's Jewish culinary ideals circa 1889. Forget the tourists and the confusing payment system - you can use a card now, relax -- and just enjoy food better than your grandma made. Well, most grandmas.

What a fun New York experience!!!!!! Visiting from Texas and must admit Brisket was just wonderful and so was the pastrami of course. A must do for all visitors.........
the atmosphere alone is worth it!!!! Word of wisdom....2 sandwiches per 3 people....they are HUGE and with fries and pickles......almost too full. :)

Native New Yorkers tend to avoid the iconic tourist spots so it took me a while to finally try this place out. As soon as I entered, I was greeted with chaos. I was given a ticket (don't lose this, it's how you pay; huge fine if you lose it!) and left to figure out how to order among the mosh pit in front of the counter.

Once I made it to the front, I ordered the pastrami on rye and was treated to a warm, salty, incredibly flavorful sample of pastrami. My stomach was stimulated to no end but I ordered the sandwich to go since the place was beyond packed. The sandwich looked smaller than expected, especially after paying $20 after tax (ugh) but I was full after half. Good thing I split it with my boyfriend. The sandwich tasted amazing but I think one experience is enough to last a life time.

Cool to check out once, but in the end it's just a really overpriced deli sandwich. In a very chaotic environment.

With crazy long lines this is a touristy spot for sure. However the wait was not too bad when I stopped in. Katz is a lot of hype but honestly they lived up to their reputation the day I stopped in. Giant sandwiches packed with delicious meat. The pickles and hot dogs are also great.

The best deli I have had in NY. Make sure you have at least 2 hours on their busier days because the queue goes all the way out. Also they accept cash and card And do not lose the ticket they give you!!

That's one of the oldest dellis in new york! The Matza ball soup is amazing- hot and comforting, and the pastrama there is fresh and cut on the place, the sandwiches are huge so you can definitely share one.

A must do when visiting New York but the ticket ordering service is a bit stressy especially since there is no real explanation as to how it all works.

Food was quite expensive - although there was loads. I would recommend getting one sandwich and extra bread as there is more than enough for two. Food was nice but not delicious.

It sounds negative but the overall experience was cool!

My first time here Defnitely did not disappoint! I love that cafeteria style seeing that only Katz is known for! Food is superb! I definitely recommend the pastrami!! Will definitely be back!!

Came early on a weekday so it wasn't busy. Tried the pastrami sandwich and to be honest it was just ok. The other negative was that it was expensive for what you get. I won't be going back. There are better pastrami sandwiches in Philly and back home in Los Angeles.

My dad and I went and we got the pastrami and rye with mustard, sour pickles, frankfurter, and fries. Doesn t get any better and is a most go place while in NYC. The hype is real. Also don t be afraid of how busy they are. The servers and cutters are very friendly and helpful.

The best place to have kosher cuts of meat once you get your sandwich and something to drink and bite your hot sandwich you fill like im coming back you wouldn't be sorry I've been going to katz's since 1972

Amazeballs! My 1st time there and 1st time having pastrami!! Super moist, delicious, and the mustard was bomb! We also had potatoe pancakes...yes yes yes!!! Its a must go when in the city.

A classic Manhattan deli, with Manhattan sized prices... which is pretty expensive for a deli.

Overall the food is pretty good, but not sure if it's worth going more than once in a lifetime, as the line can get pretty long.

Obviously "places that tourists always eat" comes with its own inherent warning, but Katz's is definitely worth it. If customs in the UK had allowed me I'd have brought back all the pastrami I could carry. Would be 5 stars, but to my poor Brexit-beleaguered wallet $20 for a sandwich was a lot!

Pastrami sandwich was very tasty, the reuben was huge. Why is there so much meat in the sandwiches, lol. It was a bit confusing at first with the lines and the ticket numbers, but they are very nice and friendly and help you through. They also let you taste the ingredients as they make the sandwich, which was cute. Enjoyed this experience, recommended to all.

Great, albeit touristy place. If you go, I recommend ordering at counter, vs being seated and ordering from a wait person. The counter is where it's at! The carvers give you an authentic exoerience.

This is the busiest place ever but don't let that put you off. If like me your a fan of a sandwich then you have to try this. I had a Rueban with Pastrami on Rye. I've never had a Rueban before but after seeing it on pretty much every American TV show, I had to have one. And I'm so glad I did. It was amazing! It's very tricky to get a seat though as it's so busy.

Hands down, the best pastrami I have ever had. The way you order is a bit disorganized, but you cannot beat the quality of their corned beef and pastrami. I was so impressed that I had to order pastrami for my father's birthday present and have it shipped to California.

For any first-timers, pick any cutter with a short line, walk up, and give them your sandwich/soup order. Side dishes and drinks are ordered in separate lines. This place definitely lived up to the hype.

It is classic old school New York. Get your ticket at the door, stand in line and watch them make your sandwich (corned beef and pastrami Reuben), they always give you a taste of meat while you watch, get on a different line get a Dr. Brown's (black cherry soda), get a table, enjoy. They mark your ticket at every station. Pay at the door on the way out. Cash only.

This place is obviously iconic as a result of the movie when Harry met Sally and lots of people travel to sit at "that" table. We went around 10pm on Thursday evening and the place was fairly quiet so we didn't have to wait anytime for our order.
We got the pastrami on rye with mustard and although it was nice i would say at $25 for one sandwich it's a bit expensive even for New York.
We got one to share as read beforehand the portions are huge however we could have had one each easily for dinner but couldn't justify $50 for two sandwiches.
If you are a fan of the movie then it's worth a visit but I do think there are equally good sandwiches in New York.

I came here late at night and was in a grumpy mood. One of the meat cutters lifted my spirts by cracking a joke about my shirt. We got to talk for a second. Really nice people work here. There was not a line to get in the place, but it was very busy at 2, almost 3am. The pastrami was delicious, but I've tasted better at other places, mostly Ziggy's in Houston. However, I will be coming back soon.

The atmosphere is fantastic. Real New York vibe. If you are in the area and don't make a stop here you are missing out! No. 1 chef in the world William makes the best breakfast. Also the bagels are amazing! Huge portions by European standards.

The restaurant itself is very cute, but be prepared to wait close to an hour for a table. I ordered a liverwurst sandwich and iced coffee. They forgot the iced coffee, and I had to ask after everyone's food had been served because our server was so busy. The liverwurst was in slab form and the iced coffee was on the warm side of lukewarm with no ice remaining. My boyfriend's brother got a cold cheeseburger, but he said it tasted okay. The cookie he got for dessert was prepackaged. For 4 meals, we paid $120ish, not including tip. As we were leaving, another patron slapped my a**, which is not the restaurant's fault but still the perfect way to end a disappointing meal.

UPDATED TO ADD: I never really knew what it was like to be *violently* ill until I got sick from eating here. I wouldn't recommend ordering anything with liver in it.

This place used to be really good, but lately corned beef was closer to rubber than meat, and service is usually lacking, but now almost non existent. they have really gone down hill lately. :-(

Have been there a couple of times. The place is packed on weekends and you might not find a table to sit.
I have had their pastrami which always has been good. The corned beef is also great. Half a sandwich has always been enough for me. Two sandwiches with fries and drinks is around $50 and BTW, they only accept cash.

Best hot pastrami sandwich I had in NYC. The bread is the weak point (although it's still adequate, unlike the travesty they use at Pastrami Queen), but the pastrami is simply incredible, it's so, sooooo good. It's not cheap (a little over $22 after tax), but it's a big sandwhich, and worth every penny.

The good: It's close by to me so I will go when I have a craving. It's an historic place and has not changed in many years.

The bad: It has not changed in many years, except for the price which has spiraled out of control. The food is pretty good, but is it worth all that money? I'm not so sure. Tourists flock here by the dozens. Many of that revolves around it being in the film classic "When Harry Met Sally"

If you're in the neighborhood, and you don't mind dropping close to $20 for a sandwich, go ahead. Otherwise, I'd skip it. It's not that phenomenal.

Great deli with great food. Everything looks amazing. Made right before your eyes. However, it is very pricy! $21 sandwiches for example. Worth every bite. Yum! Be prepared to come jump in one of the many lines and order within minutes. Good luck finding seats as it fills quickly

The most expensive sandwich I ve ever bought :( pastrami, their classic. It was large, yes, but nothing special (and not even that good). If you do still want to try it, one sandwich could easily work for two meals, or two people.

We went here last night my husband got food poisoning. He had the pastrami which was almost $23 I ordered two hotdogs which were cold the hotdog and the bread was like it was in the fridge cold. A can of soda is $2.95. So in conclusion this place is expensive and not worth it. It s just a turist trap.
