There usually is a long line outside the store. But if you ll go on midweek around noon you should be okay. The store is huge so it shouldn t be a problem finding a place to eat. They give you a ticket when you enter the store. Don t lose it.

We went for a pastrami and a corned beef sandwich. Our advice - skip the corned beef (was a little chewy) and go with pastrami all the way. It is delicious, and a huge portion. The assortment of pickles is really great, too.
A good/typical delicatessen. A bit large and unmanageable. Certainly not as good as 4th Street Delicatessen in Philadelphia where the food and service is better. However a fine place to grab a sandwich.
I got the Tuna Salad Sandwich and my boyfriend got the famous Pistrami on rye bread. They were both beyond delicious! The restaurant is nice and big with a lot of tables however, the floor staff was rude (particularly the woman walking around seating people). I heard her say at one point, I am tired of dealing with these stupid customers after I asked her for a fork. But the cooks behind the counter making the sandwiches were excellent! So friendly and helpful.
Very good and the hype is definitely real. They've managed to keep the quality and the feel of the place despite the tons of tourists that come through their doors. Pricey, but everything is in New York, right?
Yes, their pastrami sandwich ist worth the wait! And yes, 25 bucks for a sandwich is quite pricy, but the staff makes up with its friendliness for the people that have been waiting to join them for a bite. Unfortunately the restaurant and especially the restrooms could be a much cleaner.
Sandwich was very good and despite the large crowd the line moved smoothly and efficiently. Expensive for what it is though ($23 for pastrami sandwich pictured) because from what I assume is the popularity of the place.
Food was delicious, corned beef was lean yet really tastey and the turkey was amazingly moist and equally tastey. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that it is a little pricey, even by NYC standards.
So good pastrami sandwitch!!! I'm not big fun of pastrami sandwich in generals but this one is so juicy and flavorful. I wish they accept card to pay. and also it's always long queue so be ready to stand for a while to get to order.
I was on vacation and my first time in NY, always wanted to try Katz! The sandwich was delicious (so 2 stars for that) but $52 for literally just two pastrami sandwiches and no sides!? Highway robbery! Unfortunately wont be back ever again due to that alone.
$22 for a sandwich is slightly outrageous. Even at that price, they still refuse to take card payments... what's up with that? However, the sandwiches are very large and the meat is delicious. Overall, if you're just visiting New York from outside the US, you'll probably be better off visiting a cheaper deli.
OMG...will definitely snap some pics next visit. Hot dog was AMAZING and the Hot Pastrami on Rye...to die for. The pickles especially the Dills make you want to dance on the tables. But the big guy at the door won't let you get away with that. Rest assured. EVERY thing is Delicious.
The food was great but my take out order was not great. The cutter was so busy speaking to his next door colleague that he pretty much ignored me and even after putting several $ in his jar never slid over any slices of pastrami. we ate there and my two expensive sandwiches to go were short on meat and for two sandwiches got only two pieces of bread. I think these guys are taking their customers for granted. I got home with a very short order and will not order take out again. Long time customer and feel burned.
AMAZING!!! I went to NYC for 3 days and I was told that Katz's was a must see. I went for dinner and had a Corned Beef Sandwich and it's the best I've ever had. The atmosphere was like nothing I've ever been to. I highly highly highly recommend that if anyone ever visits NYC, go to Katz's Delicatessen. The food is very affordable and the portions are huge. Katz's is in my top three of places I visited while in NYC.
One of the great classics. Be ready to spend $20 on a sandwich, but in my book absolutely worth it, and I have gone time and time again. They are super busy at mealtimes, which isn't a surprised. To be honest, the cozy (some might argue too cozy) seating, packed with people, longer lines, etc. all speak to the popularity and legitimate quality of food of the establishment. I consistently think upon arrival "I'm never going to find a place to sit", and yet somehow I always do. Hopefully I'll remember to snag photos next time, but lets be honest, photos can't really provide the aroma that gets your stomach growling like a grizzly bear after a long winter. If you haven't been to Katz's, and you enjoy sandwiches, then there isn't really a good reason not to stop by. I highly recommend it!
A landmark in NYC. Very unusual but fun way of ordering food unless one gets table service. I usually get the matzo ball soup and a half of a pastrami sandwich. It comes with a handful of pickles and, usually, a small sample of the pastrami to eat while the sandwich is being made. It's a full meal for me and thoroughly enjoyable. The long tables invite interaction with other patrons, who are often first time customers and visitors from outside of New York. I try to come here whenever I'm in Manhattan.
Matzah ball soup was out of this world. Pastrami on rye was a bit too fatty. Make sure to order extra lean. You order at the counter and pay once you leave with the ticket they give you. Don t lose the ticket!
Best pastrami on rye ever! That sums up the entire experience, old school deli with no frills service. I bought their famous salami as well to take it back to India, worth every penny.
Had a corned beef and a pastrami and favored the corned beef by a lot. Agree with everyone else; not too salty, not dry. You can pick your bread. I preferred the roll to the rye. Everyone says to come here for the pastrami on rye but I'd say the corned beef on a roll is best.
Of course this place is legendary. I've never been here before but the place did not disappoint! For a first visit the pastrami is A MUST GET! It was amazing. I'm sitting here 5 hours later and I'm still full. Can't wait to go back.
Great experience for out of towners, but not a world changer food in the city. Smoked meat with cheese is delicious, so are the pickles and fries. Not worth the wait, in my opinion. Staff was quite helpful and welcoming. Overall, good place for visitors mainly.
Delicious sandwiches and crustless cheesecakes in a vintage diner that has existed for over 130 years. Table service optional, order at the counter or at the table. With ticketed entry and ticketed exit, don t lose your ticket apparently it ll cost you.
Our waiter seemed half asleep or half-baked. We couldn t tell.
They accept credit/debit cards now! Welcome to the 21st century.
Certainly the best pastrami sandwich I've ever had! Long line but fast moving. Would also recommend the matso ball and well anything and everything on the menu.
One off the best! I really enjoyed my pastrami sandwich, never had a better one before. The pickled cucumbers were a bit to salty for my taste but still good. We had no waiting time around 1pm. A must do, when you are in new york.
From New York, now live in Florida. Have had Katz's delivery by ordering online many times. Has instructions with every item so food tastes just like you are there. Great job
205 East Houston Street remains a favorite since my childhood. Stopped in on the way home to PA and picked up the Turkey for wife and the combo for me (and had to have a dog and knish while there!). Still the best pastrami and you can't beat the whole atmosphere of the place.
Got lost one Friday night downtown, and managed to find Katz s and, I ve been craving for their pastrami in weeks now, and when I finally got there. Oh boy, it was worth it.
I know the price for a pastrami sandwich is too much, but when you finally try it out, you get to taste that it might really be worth the $20 (maybe not, it s just my opinion)
Haven t tried out the other things on their menu yet, but will come back with a review when I get back.
Incredible pastrami sandwich, the perfect amount to share with another person, or power through on your own. We also got chicken noodle soup which was really good too. Would definitely recommend check it out, we tried to come on the weekend and there was over an hour wait, came on a Tuesday and got straight through, so maybe just check before you go.
Great corn beef on rye, get a knish or potato pancakes too. They have a server or the better bet is to go to the counter if you know what you want. Not cheap but, excellent!
Legendary cash-only Deli in Manhattan. Amazing melt-in-your mouth pastrami and Reuben sandwiches. Try all meats before deciding. Pricey but filling. The place is old, but it is distinctly and unmistakably a New York institution.
A New York institution. Huge sandwiches, delicious pickels, fantastic soups in a bustling cafeteria style environment. Some of the best corned beef and pastrami in town.
$18 is the base price for a beef brisket sandwich, not including tax or VAT. The prices are pretty high, although the food is good. As visitors from the UK, going at a busy time is a bit intimidating as the layout isn't very friendly for new customers. It's worth going once though! If you've never been, you get a ticket from the doorman (a blue ticket) then go up to one of the sections to order. When you order, give your ticket to the guys serving and they will write a price on. When you're done eating/taking away, go back towards the entrance and there is a desk there where you hand your ticket in to pay. Don't forget to tip!
