I can not say enough great things about this hotel. From the moment we arrived we felt like family. The staff go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and they do an amazing job of bringing the Hawaiian culture to life for you. They have a passport program where the kids learn their Hawaiian name as well as other words in the Hawaiian language. There are cultural activities throughout the day where kids as well as adults can participate in things like Hula dancing and lie making, etc... The rooms were clean and maintained daily. The beach is right at the edge of the property and they also have a massive swimming pool. There is also a lot of food options on property. I can't say enough wonderful things about this hotel!

The location is great. There is something going on every night so you're never bored. They also have a nice pool and life size checkers for the kids. The rooms have an older feel to them, plenty of space as well. bring your own shampoo and soap if you want to actually get clean though.

Stayed here for a week with my husband on our honeymoon. The location is right on beautiful kaanapali beach, lush green gardens and lawn areas, and very quiet. The hotel is in the middle of renos we stayed in one of the older rooms which was slightly dated and had a few bugs in the bathroom area which is not uncommon for Hawaii. Our room key was easily demagnetized and we had a couple issues with the smoke alarm going off. The hotel went above and beyond moving us to a newly updated room which had a much larger bathroom, no bugs and even better views of the grounds and ocean. The staff was friendly and the entire hotel has a nice relaxed Hawaiian atmosphere. We will absolutely come back to the hotel for the spacious rooms, amazing location, beautiful beach and friendly staff. Excellent value for money!

This hotel is right on the beach. And a BIG BEACH. The local people would stay at this hotel because you are getting the same beach and same location as the more expensive Hyatt Regency Hotel. And the property isn't as crowded as The Hyatt Regency next door. There's a lot of space and green grass...Like Old Hawaii...

Staff very helpful and friendly and certainly earned the reputation for being the most "Hawaiian" hotel. Breakfast buffet is very good and reasonably priced considering the location. Many activities, mostly free to immerse a mainlander in their culture. That said, the facilities are in need of upgrade and repair. Wallpaper coming off walls, stains on paint, moldy smell in the room, etc. With such an outstanding location on Kaanapali beach, and the excellent, friendly staff, it's not clear as to why the building has been somewhat neglected. Perhaps to hold costs down as it more affordable than it's higher end neighbors.

Rooms were spacious. Grounds beautifully groomed. Beach was soft sand. Water warm. Some waves so do have to time it right getting in and out of water. Saw a turtle while snorkeling by black rock.

Our room was on the first floor of Lana i wing and it was roomy and liked the lanai walking out to the pool area. Great location on the beach. Hotel is older but very Hawai ian. Only complaint is they give you vouchers for breakfast but they won t let you use them for other friends. We had extra vouchers and invited some friends to eat with us that were also visiting Maui to eat with us, but they said it was non transferable. Very tacky, & petty .... very surprised ..... why give vouchers (which we paid for) and not let us use them as we see fit? I won t spend any other money here due to that attitude when there are plenty of places to eat elsewhere!
Aloha? Yeah right!

No aloha spirit here, except for the visitors. How this hotel got such awesome ratings is beyond me. Their website is very deceiving. You have to pay for everything, safe, parking, internet. The pool is really tiny considering how big this place is. Upon walking in the lobby is shabby and a bit dirty looking, there is rotted siding. The rooms are generic and poor in taste, I had 2 recently dead geckos on my bed, the mattress was saggy in the middle, the metal mini blind in one of the windows was broken and partially bent, so it got pretty light in the room, the faucet in my tub was lose and wobbled, the tub filled with about 8" of water by the time I finished my 8 min shower, every time I flushed the toilet it appeared to almost overflow. Overall my room was totally disappointing except for the view. The hairdryer was about 100 yrs old and rusted and slightly broken. I've stayed at the Westin before and was pleased but this time they were way pricey for an ocean front, but by staying here I only saved about $300, not worth it. Overall this place is run down, overrated and way to pricey for what it is. I give it 2 stars cause the grounds were maintained nicely and it is a great location. Next time I will stay somewhere else.

The only thing that was derogatory about my stay there is that the Wi-Fi was spotty at best. Otherwise the trip was pleasurable, memorable, and just down right fun. We decided to play tourist, even though we had both been there several times in the past.

Well located hotel in Ka'anapali. The beach is less than 200 feet regardless of the room you have. It is a rather old hotel, but very clean. The morning breakfast is very good and especially if it is included in your stay. It is far from a resort ... small pool and few services, but for those who want to explore the island and be located in Kaanapali I recommend it.

Hard to complain when your in Maui, but I really feel people should know before staying here that we had cochroaches in our room . Really unsanitary! The hotel is very old and outdated, bathrooms were tiny. Also not a clean hotel. We took pictures of the giant cochroaches to show the front desk and we were told they would spray room after we checked out! Pointless for us. The hotel sits on the same strip and same beach as all the other nice newer more updated hotels. It is easy access to beach but so are all the other hotels right next to it , that probably don't have roaches, recommend paying a little extra for cleaner ,newer hotel. On the upside the grounds are very nice and the free entertainment is nice but that's about the only thing free, you will pay for everything down to the safe in your room. We will never stay at this hotel again.

Such an authentic Hawaiian experience staying here and the hotel and its staff have really gone the extra mile to give you the full Hawaiian experience. Daily activities and lessons teaching you local skills and culture. Hotel is on the beach front and only a short 500m walk from black rock where you can have some great snorkeling and even see a turtle a two. The rooms were spacious and clean and couldn't be faulted. I was even staying here during the approach of hurricane Lane and the hotel staff were faultless at keeping everyone informed and safe. Couldn't have been in better hands and would certainly return

We checked into the hotel and they put us in a room in their older building. Room was old, musty, but clean so we just stayed in it. Over the next two days I had several bites on my body, that resembled beg bug bites. I had them on my leg, ankles, arm and I asked them to move us and they did acknowledge that they would move us and do an investigation.

The next day they said an investigation had been done and their are no bed bugs(how convenient). They did nothing about it, no discounts, refunds... nothing!!

They put us into a room for our last two days in their newer building and I wondered why they put us in such an old Moldy room in the first place. I truly believe I got bit by bed bugs... so stay here at your own risk!!!!! I would not risk my health to stay here again!!

And there have been other reviews here from 2017 saying that they experienced bed bugs!

This hotel is amazing! It's laid back and cozy here, unlike all the stuffy chain hotels it's surrounded by. The grounds are clean, the rooms are decorated in contemporary Hawaiian style, and the staff exemplifies the "aloha" spirit. The location is wonderful, and Black Rock is within walking distance as is Whaler's Village. The pool is a bit small, but the glassy ocean is more fun, anyway! I loved my stay here and hope to return someday!

Very friendly staff and very accommodating. We were originally book in the upper level of the hotel but we explained that we have a problem of walking the stair so they transferred us to the ground floor with a partial view of the beach. Very spacious & very clean bedroom. The Luau show was the best we have seen so far. Our two night stay was definitely too short for a beautiful place. We'll be back for sure.******

Most Hawaiian Hotel in Maui. If you want to experience Hawaiian culture and be treated like Ohana this is the place. If you want the hustle and bustle and status of a big name Resort, this is not the place for you. Best MaiTai's on the island!

I have mixed feelings about this place which is why I rated 3 stars. Let me preface this by saying I have stayed all over Maui in various other hotels, including the Westin, the Westin villas, the sheraton, etc. I thought I would save a little bit of money and booked with this hotel. The other hotels we're about $500-800 more for 7 nights, and I wish I would have spent more.

The staff at kaanapali Beach hotel is phenomenal! Every single person here is very attentive and helpful, which is why it got the 3 stars. From check-in to house keeping, I did not see one person without a smile on their face ready and willing to help. Everything else is just subpar.

The rooms are in BIG need of renovations. There's some mold in the bathroom, various "patches" of grout, drywall, etc. The wallpaper on the walls were peeling off, the beds were very old and uncomfortable, the a/c was so so, the carpet was fairly stained and old, all lights, furniture, pretty much everything is way outdated. It certainly isn't a huge deal, especially if you want to save money, but for what we payed, I expected a tad more.

The pool was like a motel pool, very basic, no waterfalls, no slides, no towel service, but they did tell us we could use the room towels for the pool and beach. Self parking is $14 per day or $17 per day for valet. In room safe was $1.50 per day to use. Our partial ocean view room was exactly that. To see the ocean you had to stick your head out over the balcony to see past the other rooms. Our room was on a side without an elevator so getting bags with children and other stuff up the stairs was a little difficult.

The beach is steps away from the hotel, but all the days I was there, the waves were fairly big for my 3 year old, maybe time of year, so we stayed over near black rock in front of the Sheraton where the waves were much smaller. Due to the wave size, I didn't snorkel in front of the hotel, but will say there are tons of fish and turtles on the other side of black rock.

All in all we had a good time here and only stayed in the room at night to sleep. If you have a little extra money, I would stay at a more renovated place. If not for the fantastic staff, I might have rated 2 stars.

Photos aren't very good as I thought about snapping them on my way out of the hotel to check out. I do wish I would have taken more. I didn't try the restaurant or any food at the hotel nor the spa. For the price, I will not be coming back to this location, as I stated above it's only a few extra hundred to say at a much better hotel, but if you want to save some money by all means stay here, but you do get what you pay for.

We visited for the Luau hosted at this hotel and it was outstanding. The talent, the food, the sharing of this rich culture, all of the details were so well done! We had three generations with us that were all delighted. Thank you for this wonderful Maui experience!! Fabulous!!

I have stayed twice beforeand enjoyed it. However this stay was not good. They aRe doing a much needed update. The rooms we stayed in felt like a motel and we're very dated. The are building a new restaurant and in doing so took out the bar and snack shack. Thus there were no drink options outside of diner and lunch. No kid friendly food available in off hours. Just felt like a dying hotel trying to update too late.

I would rate this as a 1 star hotel at best.

I would rate this as a 1 star hotel at best.
It is dirty and extremely outdated.
The hallways are dim, dark and smell bad.
The rooms are from 20 years ago not to mention so is the hotel infrastructure.
You better shower before 6 am as the hot water is gone and your shower will be cold.
The room access card readers are pure garbage. 3 times so far we have had to had our cards "fixed".
Everyday there is a new issue.
I will never return to this hotel again.
Room rate was just over $300 per night

A good place to be, near the Black Rock Beach. Except the problem with the flying birds everywhere around you when you're eating, the breakfast buffet was good (but warm buffet were never warm enough). Be careful if your breakfast price is included with your price room because gratuity is not. You will pay it. And the parking. People very thoughtful, helpful, smiling.

Nice, cozy hotel. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. My only complaint is the lack of designated smoking areas, having to walk all the way behind the restaurant each morning can be a pain.

Stayed at the hotel for a week. Best week of our lives. Amazing customer service, beautiful outside ground maintained every single morning. Steps away from the beach. Don t listen to anyone who complains about the size of the beach by the hotel, the view is perfect plenty of beach space for everyone. Thanks for everything KBH!

This was my ohana for a week in August. Room had a ceiling fan and (older model) air condition, which could get loud when on high. Counters in the washroom area needed some extra wiping before we could set our things down. Shower could use some updating as the shower head only had a few settings. Bed was comfortable. Hotel is a family friendly hotel with free activities for kids and families all week long. It is budget friendly hotel with helpful service staff. Location of the hotel was amazing, short walk to black rock beach, snorkelling, and whalers village mall. Tiki Grill was a great place to grab a quick bite at the hotel if you didn t want to venture too far. We could refill our water bottles by the Tiki Bar before we went out to the beach.

They are doing a lot of renovating. The only rooms available are old, very old! Lots of construction noise during the day. When they are done there will be almost no beach view from the swimming pool however they should have a really nice bar and restaurant.

Lovely, low-key family friendly hotel. Located right next to black Rock beach, it is a terrific location to visit Ka'anapali from. Features large grassy lawns under tropical trees. They offer lots of free Hawaiian activities, a fun (and delicious) Lu'au Monday nights, a welcome breakfast that includes a non-pushy pitch for the activities they can book for you, a cute goodbye ceremony, and lots of touches that make you feel like family while you're there.

Loved it there. Beautiful landscape and right off the beach. Not every room has an ocean view but it isn't needed. Only complaint I could make is the wifi was spotty, but only used it at the bar.

Fantastic place, it's older than the other hotels, but all of the modern ones surrounding it can't compete with it's layout!
The Modern ones seem to cram every inch they can leaving little space to enjoy scenic values such as trees and plants.
More space to place sun beds and drag then out of the sun when you need to cool down..
I stayed for ten days and wish I could stay longer.

Cheap beach hotel. The restaurant area pulls down the level of the facility unnecessarily. The information is Hawaiian and family acts as a helpless explanation for long necessary investment. We just ate in the neighboring hotels.

5 Stars. While the hotel is showing its age, the service level here from most of the staff is phenomenal. From Ariel and Junne at the concierge giving us tips on local restaurants, to the front desk getting us a wonderful room, and the AMAZING Luau, this will be a trip for the books. Give this place a look first. I would love to see what their plans for a renovation might include!

Clean hotel. Outdated fixtures /appliances but nice Hawaiian decor. Small pool but a very large property with plenty of chairs and shady trees to read under. Close to black Rock which is cool. Good price relative to everything else. Breakfast was pretty good buffet. It was a three star experience for me but I could see someone giving it 5 stars if there priorities were different.

My wife and I came here for our anniversary. It was our first time to Hawaii and we are happy with our choice. The hotel may not be as modern as some others, but it makes up for it with staff that are all very friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was very nice and relaxing with live music in the afternoon and evening. The room smelled a bit musty the first night, but the cleaning staff took care of that the next morning and called to follow up and make sure everything was to our liking. We were very impressed with how quick they were to address our issue. The beach is clean and quiet. It's nice going out in the morning before it gets busier because all you hear are the waves coming in and it's very peaceful. There are no annoying sales people bothering you and trying to sell you activities/merchandise. The pool is a little on the small side, but with the awesome beach so close, we didn't mind one bit. There are dining and shopping options on the premises (with reasonably priced souvenirs), and more only a short walk away at Whalers Village. Overall this was a very positive introduction to Hawaii and it will definitely be on the list of places to visit again.

Housekeeping Steals! BEWARE!!!

Housekeeping Steals! BEWARE!!!

My husband and I really did enjoy our stay. We stayed from Sunday July 15th-19th. They have a rule that your room must be cleaned daily. I said fine. Why fight with people over something that seemed simple. Wrong! My black dress was stolen. I told the hotel and they directed me a whole bunch of people who said I'm lying and the house cleaning lady has worked there for 14 years. That doesn't mean she doesn't steal. Just imagine how many other people clothing this woman has stolen. It could be money or jewelry. This lady got a nice black dress from me. I will never stay at this hotel where they could careless about your belongings. It's ok for you to spend your money but everything else doesn't matter. There will be no investigation according to Linda who is a manager in housekeeping. I'm very dissatisfied. I only stayed here because my travel agent recommended because it has a Hawaiian feel, but it's not worth it if you can't leave with all your belongings. Please take this as a warning.
